hello, there! I just read the prompt 27 for your #50kisses, and I REALLY need a second part SO I was thinking about numbers 9, 29 or 45 would be VERY GOOD, what do you think? btw, I'm in love with u 🥰
Hi! That’s a coincidence because I was actually already writing more to this drabble. Thank you so much! ILY too ❤️ Your continuing support makes me very happy! 😍
I added some scenes and extended others to part one. You can find the whole work (including the complete second part) here.
I post the first part of the sequel here (the rest is just smut xD). I used prompt 45 for this. I hope you like it 🥰
The prompt is from the list here, where you find an overview over all my answers. (Original post of the prompt list here).
45. Kisses exchanged as they move around, hitting the edges of tables or nearly tripping over things on the floor before making it to the sofa, or bed.
After the kiss, Damen knew he couldn't wait any longer.
They played another round, where Laurent asked Nicaise who out of all of them he liked best and Nicaise flushed scarlet red and cursed him out before admitting that it was Nikandros.
Which then led to Nikandros gaping at him and Nicaise declaring that they were all assholes, the game stupid and he would need a drink before he stomped off.
Laurent looked very pleased and Aimeric sighed. "Do you have to provoke him every single time?"
Vannes laughed and clapped him on the back. "Come on, Aimeric. Don't pretend you wouldn't have done the exact same thing. It's good that it's out in the open. Now our earnest Akielon can decide on his next course of action. He can have his crisis over their age gap in peace while Nicaise boils with anger and as soon as both of them calm down, they can talk."
Laurent smirked and stood. "I like your thinking, Vannes." With these words, he made his way across the room.
Damen scrambled to follow him, ignoring Lazar's and Vannes' taunts, because they were really not important at all.
He wrapped his hand around Laurent's wrist to stop him. "Follow me, we need to talk."
Laurent grinned up to him. "If 'talk' is used as a synonym for 'having sex' then heed my words, Damen. I was completely serious when I told you that I wouldn't just sleep with you without a date."
This elicited a groan out of Damen just the image of Laurent in is bed was enough. He wanted him badly. But he wouldn't rush things. Not now, because he wanted more from Laurent than just a night of passionate sex.
"It isn't." He dragged him towards the second west wing of the house where his rooms were. Laurent followed with a curious glance around. He had never been here before Damen was aware of that.
"So, what did you want to talk about?" Laurent asked as soon as Damen stopped walking. They were in his study, the room filled with books and records and Laurent was clearly intrigued by what he could see from the shelves.
"I wanted to ask you out on a date. Would you get dinner with me tomorrow?"
Laurent smiled. It was soft and warm, and Damen felt the tingles it evoked in his fingertips. "I would like that." Then he stepped closer and reached up to trail a fingertip over Damen's jaw. The touch was electrifying and exhilarating, and Damen wanted to haul him against his chest and kiss him until they both wouldn't know their names anymore.
-
Two weeks later
They stumbled through the dark. Damen didn't care, he only felt Laurent's lips on his own, his silky hair in his fist and his moving back under the palm of his hand.
Then he stubbed his toe. "Fuck- Ouch, damn."
Laurent laughed, the sound still as enchanting as the first time Damen heard him, and dragged his lips back to his mouth.
Damen was walking backwards towards his bedroom. At least, he thought this was the direction, but somehow it seemed as if someone had moved all the furniture just to pose another hurdle before he could finally get Laurent naked and panting under him.
Tonight, Laurent had taken him out to dinner and then the theater and it had been perfect. It had been their fourth official date and although they had finished date number three with very satisfying orgasms on both ends, they hadn't had penetrative sex yet or seen each other naked or touched each other's cocks.
But it seemed as if this would change soon. Gods, Damen hoped so.
Laurent stumbled into him, tripping over something on the floor. Damen wrapped his arms around him and kissed him again. "Fuck, I want you."
"You have me. But really, I would prefer a bed for these activities, if you don't mind." Laurent's teeth gleamed white when he grinned, and Damen laughed.
"And then he has standards. Unbelievable," he teased, and Laurent bit his collarbone. "I don't know about that. I mean I'm going out with you, don't I?" The blonde's breath was hot against his throat when he spoke the words and Damen shuddered. "My standards, as you call them, can't be that high."
He had to draw him back in. He pressed their mouths together and traced Laurent's bottom lip with his tongue.
"I assure you, I can live up to your standards just fine," he murmured and pressed his hips against Laurent's. The blond gasped against his lips just as Damen bumped against his door. He felt the edge of the doorway dig into his arm. He blindly fumbled in the dark and finally found the doorhandle. Pushing open his bedroom door, he flickered on the soft night light before dragging Laurent back in.

Move-In Day
Who: Marco and Rory Pierre
Where: Pierre House
Notes: Rory is back in Vannes and moving in with Marco. They have a lot of catching up to do.
Trigger Warning [None, just a whole lot of sibling connections]
@rory-of-nantes
Marco
Marco was so excited to have Rory back in Vannes, it took a lot of convincing, but she agreed to stay with him as long as he didn't smother her. He was always worried about her and hearing of her health scare while she was traveling only made him worry more. He knew the only reason she agreed to stay here was that she didn't want to go back to their parents’ place. Whatever the reason he was glad she was here.
They had been unpacking her things all day and finally, they finished getting her set up. They plopped on the couch and he signed to her, "I'm exhausted! You really have a lot of stuff and heavy too." He teased.
Rory
It still felt so strange being back in her hometown. Rory had hardly stepped foot in Vannes in the past eight years except for on holidays and for a handful of special occasions. But now, she'd be staying in the city for the foreseeable future. And while she loved the fact she'd be moving in with her eldest (and favorite) brother Marco, she didn't exactly love the fact she'd have to put her travel blog on the back burner until further notice.
Unpacking her belongings was quite the undertaking. While she tended to live more of a minimalistic lifestyle, she did acquire a decent amount of things over the years. She'd brought her whole life back to Vannes with her, hence all the boxes she and Marco had gone through since first thing that morning. But they were finally done, and she was exhausted. Her whole body ached, and all she wanted to do was go to sleep. But with several hours of sunlight left, she knew that might not be the best idea just yet. So she settled for lying on the couch, for now, making herself comfortable as she draped her feet over her brother's lap. How much would you hate me if I told you this wasn't all of it? She asked, signing back, the smirk wide upon her face as she caught her brother's expression. Kidding!
Marco
Marco gasped hearing Rory say that this wasn't all of her things, but laughed when she admitted that she was kidding, "You almost had me there." He signed back at her, "But if you weren't then you would be unpacking everything else on your own." He laughed knowing he was only kidding. He would do anything for his little sister, she was totally work being exhausted for. "So now that you're here, you have to tell me all about your travels, I mean I read about it on your blog, but I want to hear it from you." He held up his hand, "But first, I don't know about you, but I'm starving."
He got up, pushing her legs off him, and went to the kitchen grabbing his gaggle of takeout menu and brought them out to Rory. He put them on the table in front of her, "So pick what you want, as you can see I have lots of options and I don't cook a lot around here." He laughed and plopped back down on the couch next to her.
Rory
While Rory blogged almost everything about each and every one of her travels, there were always things she couldn't share on her blog. There was so much to each new experience that she couldn't possibly fit it all within the constraints of her posts. And she couldn't exactly post 1,000 photographs for just one trip. It would be overwhelming. So while she shared a lot on her blog, she always had more stories, stories she couldn't wait to be able to share with Marco and with anyone else who asked. I could start at the very beginning, but I'm afraid we'd be here into next year... So pick a country. Part of her hoped he would pick Brazil or India or Australia as those had been some of her most memorable trips. But really any country he picked, she'd have stories for days.
As he moved to stand, she pouted as her legs were pushed off him and her feet hit the floor. "Not nice." She spoke aloud before moving to get up herself, starting to follow her big brother into the kitchen, only stopping and returning to the couch as she saw him walking back her way. Her eyes went wide at the sight of all the takeout menus he displayed on the coffee table. She began to look through them, pushing aside any of the ones that looked like they'd not have any good vegan options. Finally, she picked up a menu for some Indian restaurant. I want curry.
Marco
Marco was more than a little excited to hear about her travels and what she had seen. He knew with him being in the military and traveling to some amazing places he had his own stories, but he didn't get to see some of the amazing things that she was able to. He started thinking about what country he wanted to hear about first. "I'll start alphabetically and go with Australia, I've always wanted to go there and the pictures you had looked amazing." He laughed when she said he wasn't nice, he loved hearing her talk, it warmed his heart. "Hey, I'm nice..."
He was going to let it be her choice to what they had for dinner, although she was a vegan and he certainly wasn't, he would find something that he would like. He smiled at her choice, "Yum, curry sounds amazing and I'll make sure to get the vegan option for you." He grabbed his phone and put her feet back across his legs before placing their order. Once he finished he looked back over at her and signed, "Now, Australia tell me all about it. Did you pet a koala bear?"
Rory
Technically, the first place I've been to alphabetically would be Argentina... Rory signed before shifting her attention back to the Indian takeout menu. Scanning through it, she eyed their different curries, seeing which ones were already vegan and which ones she could easily modify to be vegan. Finding what looked good to her, she pointed to the menu item, ensuring Marco knew exactly what she wanted. She figured he'd know to ensure the curry itself wasn't too hot; so she didn't even bother with mentioning that fact. And once he'd placed their takeout orders, it was back to the discussing of her time in Australia.
To answer your question, yes. I pet a koala... Though they're technically not bears. They're marsupials. And technically I didn't just pet one. I got to hold one. Did you not see that photo? On her first day not completely jetlagged, Rory had gone to a koala sanctuary and held a baby koala. It had been the photo to accompany her first post about Australia. And while she spent six weeks in the country before spending another two in New Zealand, that memory was, by far, her favorite. The baby koala had been so cuddly! It made her stop and buy a lifesized baby koala plushie later that day.
Marco
Marco was so proud of his sister for overcoming so much adversity, she was truly a real inspiration for him. She may be still dealing with some hardships but looking at her now you couldn't tell. He chuckled at her comment, "Oh excuse me, we can talk about Argentina next, now I want to know about Australia." He eagerly listened to her talk about the koalas and how she was able to hold one. "I am very jealous right now, hopefully, one day I'll get to go there and hold a baby koala." There were so many things he wanted to do, but he couldn't because of money and time.
Rory
Hold that thought! Rory quickly signed in response before standing up and running to what was now going to be her room. There had been a few boxes they just moved into her closet for her to go through later, mainly boxes that contained non-important items. One such box was the box of stuffed animals she'd acquired over the years. Taking a moment to sort through the box, she found the baby koala plushie. Not bothering to pick up the other stuffed animals she'd thrown onto the floor while in search of the koala, she stood back up and made her way back to the couch, slightly out of breath by the time she got there.
"Here." She said as she handed over the baby koala plushie, plopping down on the couch and placing a hand over her chest as she caught her breath. Her heart was racing; and if she was being honest, it kinda hurt. But of course, she'd not admit that out loud. She wasn't about to give Marco any more reasons to be an overprotective big brother. After a moment, she shifted her position on the couch so she was sitting up more, attention on her brother. Now you can hold a baby koala. This is S-C-O-U-T. She fingerspelled the name.
Marco
Marco looked over at the spot his sister once occupied and saw her running off, he had no idea what she was doing, but he was going to wait until she came back. He took the opportunity to clean up the pile of menus and keep some kind of order in the living room. He wasn't paying attention to her when she came back and he jumped when he felt something soft hit him, "What the..." He finally saw what it was and smiled. "Aww...look at him." He glanced over at Rory and saw her putting her hand on her chest and he was instantly worried, but until she said something, he was going to back off a little. He was going to focus on the bear for now, "Scout huh? Well not exactly what I had in mind, but he would do for now." He wanted to have an adventure like she had, but someone needed to take care of their parents and it was his job to do it. And now he was going to look after Rory and he was happy to do it. "So what other adventures did you have there?"
Rory
Scout was the name of the koala I held my first day in Australia. Rory explained. When she'd gone to the sanctuary's gift shop, she knew she wanted to get a koala stuffed animal and name it after the sweet little guy she'd gotten cuddles from. Plus Scout was such a cute name. What other adventures did I have there? She inquired, growing silent for a long moment as she tapped her chin playfully. It seems to me like you've not actually followed my Australian blogs, Marco. She pouted like the mere thought offended her. In actuality, she figured her brother had followed her blogging from Australia; but the trip had been several years ago. He'd probably forgotten most of the details by now. And even if he remembered them, he probably just wanted to hear the stories directly from the source. I spent my two weeks in and around Sydney before driving down to Melbourne for another week. And then we flew to Alice Springs in the middle of the outback. I spent the next two weeks exploring the outback and trying to avoid all the animals that wished to kill me. She shuddered at the thought of such creatures. Australia had been an amazing place, but the amount of deadly creatures there had been unnerving. Saw U-L-U-R-U. Again, she fingerspelled the name. And then we flew to Brisbane and drove up the coast to the Great Barrier Reef where we went snorkeling "Um..." She stayed silent for another moment as she thought of what else to mention, not going into any form of extreme detail just yet as it was more fun annoying her brother and making him work for the answers he desired. That pretty much sums up my trip!
Marco
Marco listened to Rory as she told him the stories of meeting Scout the koala and he thought it was a cute story. "That's a cute story sis, I probably would have done the same thing." He let out a sigh when she accused him of not reading her blogs, "Not true, I read all of your blogs, but I know there has to be something that you didn't put on the blog and more pictures. Come on sis, you are not going to try to guilt me after I moved in all your stuff in here?" He gave her his pleading eyes for her to give him a break and just tell him the story. She listened to her talk about all her travels, and he couldn't lie a part of him was a bit jealous that he wasn't able to see all the things she had, but he was happy for her that she was able to experience all of that. He was kinda annoyed that she was not going into any details, but she did like messing with him. "So you are going to give me the synopsis of an entire three-week trip? Seriously?" Marco shook his head, "You know sis, I am glad to have you here with me, but you really don't know how to tell a story." He laughed and shook his head, "You gave more details in your blog about the jungle in the Amazon then you gave me right now."
Rory
Six weeks, Marco! Rory let out a heavy sigh and leaned back against the cushions of the sofa before letting out another heavy sigh and shaking her head. You’re unbelievable. This is why you get the short and sweet summary. You couldn’t handle the full stories... She signed, her facial expressions making it clear she was enjoying teasing him so much. She’d gladly elaborate on any aspect of any of her trips that he wished to know about. But she’d not seen him in what felt like forever. And she was the baby sister. It was in her job description to be annoying. And I gave more details about the Amazon and Brazil because that was my longest trip, silly! And her favorite. If she could revisit any place she’d already gone, it would 110% be Brazil and the Amazon Rainforest.
Marco
Marco laughed and shook his head, "Me? I'm unbelievable? You are the one that is unbelievable right now. All I asked was for a few more details and excuse me for not knowing how long your trip was, I was just here working and keeping an eye on our parents." He laughed again, she was definitely teasing him, but she was his baby sister so it was kinda her job, so he was going to let her do it. "Yeah, yeah Brazil was your longest trip, you spent a long time in the rainforest, blah, blah, blah." He shook his head, "So are you going to give me more details or am I going to have to go re-read your blog?" He really wanted to know if she would meet people along the way. Was she breaking hearts all over the world? But he couldn't ask that right now.
Rory
“Fine. Fine.” Rory opted to speak for a moment as she knew Marco loved hearing her voice for some strange reason she could never understand. But given she still hated using her voice unless absolutely necessary, she then switched back to her beloved sign. By the time we got to Sydney, I was exhausted. We checked into our hotel, and I slept into the next day. Then it was all about the koala sanctuary where I held Scout and learned quite a bit about koalas and how Australia is working to keep their population stable. She signed, hoping this was enough detail for her brother. I also got to see a show at the Opera House later that night. They had an interpreter, but of course, it was A-U-S-L-A-N... She fingerspelled. That’s what they call Australia’s sign language. It was still nice to see, though. Glad to know inclusion is becoming more and more of a thing. That was one of the topics she tended to focus on most in her blog. She often shared her experiences with ableism and how places could make changes to be more inclusive and accessible. And she didn’t just focus on the topic in terms of the deaf/hoh community. She’d comment on places being wheelchair accessible or having Braille menus, etc. The time for inclusion was now. No more ableist bullshit.
Marco
Marco smiled when Rory spoke, it was one of his favorite sounds in the world. He knew how much she struggled her entire life, but during her younger years, she didn't speak until she was six. He used to wonder what she would sound like, or if she would ever speak. So the moment she did he wanted to always hear it. He listened to her talk about her time in Australia and he loved how passionate she was about ableism and how inclusion was important for everyone. It was something he always championed as well for her because he didn't want anyone to go through what she went through. "Sounds like the first few days of your trip were rather exciting, you had a busy itinerary. Were most of your days that busy?" He wanted to know everything, he really did miss his sister even if she was a pain. "So did you pick up on any Auslan?"
Rory
Rory paused for a moment, thinking back to her time in Australia. It was a few years ago; so while she had her blog and photos to keep the memories fresh, they weren’t exactly the memories at the forefront of her mind anymore. The first few days were, but then things slowed down. I had some nice beach days and did a few food tour days. The food tour days were always her favorite. She loved trying local cuisines, vegan only of course. She was such a foodie, even if she was limited on what she could eat thanks to being vegan on top of already having several food allergies such as peanuts and soy. Learned how to make vegan Tim Tams... I’ll have to make you someone of those days. She added. Things got busy again once we left Sydney; though I think we did the most in Sydney, actually. Sydney or Alice Springs. Her time elsewhere in Australia didn’t have as much of an itinerary. Melbourne, Brisbane, and even the Great Barrier Reef were a lot more laid back, which she always liked. With her health, she couldn’t be going for as long or as often as she’d like. Having downtime was much needed for her to regain her energy.
Koala. Kangaroo. Beach. Barbecue. Beer. Thongs. Reef. She signed a few random words in Auslan. She’d only learned a word here and there, most of which were ones she specifically asked to learn. “And my name.” R-O-R-Y.
Marco
Marco continued to listen to Rory talking about her trip, he was glad to hear more details about it, he was definitely living through her vicariously since he wasn't able to go. He perked up when he heard food tours, "Now that sounds like fun, I would love to do a food tour through a country. I could just imagine all the amazing dishes I would try." He always worried about her doing too much so it was nice to hear her say that she was resting up. He smiled seeing her do some sign language in Auslan, "Nice, but you weren't out there wearing thongs were you?" He raised his brow at her. She may be grown, but she was still his baby sister.
Rory
At Marco’s words, Rory couldn’t help but roll her eyes. Thongs are a type of footwear, silly. She explained before actually answering his question. So yes. I was out in Australia wearing thongs. She actually still had the few pairs she’d purchased during her trip. They were great for when she was traveling in warmer climates. Then again, she had a tendency to still wear sneakers or even boots when in warmer climates because her toes would start to turn blue if she didn’t. Her feet got cold way too easily sometimes.
Marco
Marco signed, "You know what I mean Rory, don't be sassy with me. I know the footwear things, but I meant the other thongs." They were definitely siblings and he was definitely playing the role of the big brother right now. "And since we are heading down to this subject, have you met anyone special during your travels?" He knew she wouldn't add that in her blogs so he needed to know if his sister was having a love life. This was something he always worried about because he honestly didn't know if her heart could handle something physical in a relationship. He hoped she would be honest with him and not get defensive about it.
Rory
Again, Rory rolled her eyes at her brother’s words, the action of rolling her eyes momentarily giving her a headache since it was so over-exaggerated. Honestly, no. I don’t understand the appeal. They’re uncomfortable and impractical. She signed back, scrunching up her face at the mere thought of the non-footwear thongs. Her eyes then widened at her brother’s next inquiry. This was a topic she knew they’d end up discussing, but she didn’t think it would be so soon. Just one person. I met her during my American travels. She actually joined me for some of my road trips. And even though they had to end their romantic relationship due to distance, they still vowed to stay friends. We still talk, actually. If I ever go back to California or she comes to Breton, we’ll meet up.
Marco
Marco was relieved to hear that she wasn't traipsing around the world with her ass out on every beach she could find. He knew it was a bit hypocritical of him to not want to show off her body when he never kept a shirt on, but she was his sister and he didn't want anything to happen to her. "That's good to know, I always thought they looked uncomfortable." Not that he didn't mind seeing other women in them. He straightened up hearing she met an American woman, "Oh really? That's cool. What's her name? Where did you meet? And how did you guys handle the..." He didn't know how to say what he wanted to say, but he hoped she would catch on.
Rory
Now Rory partially regretting bringing up the American woman she’d dated briefly. She knew what sorts of questions Marco would answer; and some of those questions, she kinda wanted to avoid if she was being honest. Her name is P-A-X-T-O-N. she fingerspelled. Her name sign is- She signed the name sign she’d given the woman. And by sharing this fact with her brother, he’d know they had been serious. Name signs were given to just anybody. She’s from Los Angeles. We spent a good while traveling through California and the surrounding states. We even went to Disneyland together! The excitement in her eyes increased as she thought back to their long weekend at Disney. Given she’d always been a bit of a Disney nerd, it had been like a dream come true (though the park in Florida had been 10x better).
She knew what Marco was referring to with his last trailed off question, but she wasn’t going to answer until he fully asked. No sugar coating. How did we handle what, Marco? She raised an eyebrow.
Marco
Marco's brows raised hearing that Rory gave Paxton a sign name, that was a serious thing, and he knew she didn't take it lightly. "Paxton huh? Sounds like things with the two of you got really serious on this trip." When she said she went to Disneyland, he knew that was big for her. "You were always into Disney and I am so glad that you were able to experience that with Paxton. I'm glad to know that the two of you are still close and I hope that one day she can come to Brenton and see you, I would like to meet her one day." He smiled and then let out a sigh as she was determined to make her say it, "Seriously Rory, you are going to make me say it?" He felt like he was being intrusive on her personal life and he was, but he was concerned with her health. He blew out a breath and he was just going to ask it. "How did you guys handle sex? I need to know if your heart can handle something that physical." He felt relieved when he said it, but still, a bit weirded out.
Rory
A triumphant smirk found its way to Rory’s face as she got Marco to actually ask what he’d been previously only alluding to. “Well...” She began, tapping her chin as she contemplating being serious or messing with him. But since she’d not seen him in ages, messing with her big brother won out. Lesbian sex really isn’t all that confusing, Marco. We handled it how most sapphic couples do. Lots of fingering and strap-ons. She shrugged before glancing towards the door, trying to see if she could, by chance, see a delivery driver through the window. Any idea when our food will get here? I’m starving.
Marco
Marco could see that Rory was enjoying this way too much, and when he heard her response he got even more annoyed with her. "You know what I mean Rory, I know how lesbian sex works, I am more concerned with your heart and how it fairs with that kind of strenuous physicality." He shook his head, "Why do you have to be so difficult at times. I am genuinely concerned about you and your well being, and you are teasing me." He shook his head and looked at his watch, "They said 45 minutes, so it should be here soon." He couldn't believe that she was doing this to him when he was trying to be serious, but he didn't know why he expected anything different.
Rory
My heart handles sex just fine. Rory didn’t bother to elaborate. She had known from the start where Marco was going with his question, but teasing him had helped the fact the question actually upset her a bit. She understood his concern, but she wasn’t a child. She knew her body, and she knew what her heart could handle. Besides, she’d always preferred having more vanilla in scenes; so that helped when it came to ensuring things were too much for her. And even so, she could still handle plenty. Good. Because I’d really like to try this curry place. The menu looked so good.
Marco
He could see she was getting upset and he needed to relax a bit. She was in fact grown and he was just her brother not her father, so he needed to relax. "I'm sorry Rory, I didn't mean to upset you. I am just concerned that's all, but if you say you can handle it just fine, then I believe you." He had to learn to trust her and let her do what she does. He knew he would hate it if he had someone breathing down his neck about everything so he wasn't going to do it to her. Just then he heard a car pulling up in his driveway, "And I think the food is here, I'll go get it, you go grab some beers out the fridge and plates." He smiled and headed to the door.
Rory
Food. Finally. That would lead to a shift in conversation, at least for now. Rory breathed out a sigh of relief as Marco got up to go answer the door. Nodding at his request before her left, she moved to stand, making her way into the kitchen and opening the refrigerator. It took her a few seconds to spot the beers, but she eventually did. Taking one out, she placed it on the counter before closing the fridge and going to find the plates. She still didn’t know where everything was in Marco’s kitchen; so it took her a few tries to open the right cabinet. Eventually, she was able to take out two plates and some cutlery. And she’d managed to find the glasses so she could pour herself a glass of water. Placing everything out on the counter, she turned towards the kitchen’s entrance, waiting for Marco to come in with their food.
Marco
Marco got up and went to get the food, he knew that this was going to shift the conversation to someplace else, which is exactly what Rory wanted he was sure. He tipped the delivery guy and grabbed the food. He was soon heading back into the kitchen, holding up the bag of food, "Dinner has arrived and it smells delicious." He put everything on the table and started to unpack everything. "I'm glad you found everything I forgot this is only your first night here." He took a seat, "So how do you like the place? Is your room okay?" He probably should have asked her that a long time ago, but he was just super excited to have her here with him.
Rory
Marco was right. The food did smell delicious. And after a full day of unpacking boxes and beginning to arrange her room, Rory was starving. She needed to refuel, especially since there were a few hours of daylight left. She didn’t want to go to bed just yet, even if she was exhausted. Taking a seat across from her brother, she began fixing her plate, occasionally glancing up to see if her brother had anything to say. My room is just fine. I mean, it’s still rather boring; but that will all change once I’ve finished decorating. She stopped to take a bite of the curry. The temperature was still a bit hot, but everything else was perfect. She’d have to get the name of the restaurant and keep it for reference. Ask me again come morning. You know I can sleep just about anywhere, but I’ll be the first one to let you know if I was too hot or too cold.
Marco
Marco started making his plate and he looked over at Rory to make sure everything was alright. He knew he had to make some adjustments when it came to her food and what she could handle. He smiled when she said the room is fine but boring. He signed, "I'll let you handle adding the pizazz to the room, I was just going to get you in there." He smiled and took a sip of his beer. He looked at her as she started sign again, "Yeah please tell me, I tried to make sure that it was comfortable here, so If you need to adjust the thermostat feel free, it's on the wall in the living room."
Rory
Rory was already planning on handling the pizazz of her room. She had all sorts of souvenirs from her many trips; and she’d be proudly displaying them wherever she could, be it a shelf or directly on the wall. I may need your help hanging a few things; but otherwise, I think I’ll have made my room very Rory by the end of the week. She beamed before turning her attention back to her curry, eating another glorious spoonful. Whenever she was starting to run low on energy (or spoons as she sometimes referred to it), food would help. Food would help to refuel her, and she’d usually start to feel somewhat better after just a few bites. Also, I had a question I’d been meaning to ask... I’ve been looking into maybe getting a service dog at some point, and I wanted to ensure you’d be okay with having a dog in the house. A service dog was an idea she’d been toying with since she first found out she’d be needing a pacemaker. Plus the dog could help with more than just her heart condition. The dog could be her ears. And a cuddly companion.
Marco
Marco was enjoying his meal and nodded, "Okay, just let me know and I'll happily help you." He didn't mind helping her get comfortable and making his place feel more like her place as well. "And just so you know, don't think you have to keep all your things just in your room, if you feel like something would look good out here please feel free to have it out here. I want this to feel like your home as well." They continued eating their meal and her question made him smile, "That's perfectly fine with me, as long as your dog gets along with my baby Trixie." He loved his dog, and he wasn't going to put her in a position where she felt uncomfortable. He also knew that a service dog would be good for her and can help her with her when something goes with her health.
Rory
T-R-I-X-I-E? Rory fingerspelled, the questioning of the name clear upon her face. Who was Trixie? That wasn’t a name she was familiar with. But based on the context and the fact she now recalled seeing a dog dish and a dog bed in Marco’s house, she wondered if maybe Trixie was her brother’s dog. If so, where was the dog? She wanted to meet her.
Marco
"Yes Trixie my baby, she’s at mom and dad's place now because I didn't want her to get into everything when we were trying to move you in." He pulled out his phone and showed her a picture of his baby girl, "She is my heart, so as long as they can get along then I would be happy to have another dog around here. You would love her, she is a sweetheart, a little playful but adorable."
Rory
Rory’s eyes went wide as Marco pulled out his phone and showed her the picture of Trixie. “She’s so pretty!” She squealed, before switching back to her beloved sign as she handed the phone back to her brother. I believe I can let the trainers know I’d need a dog that can get along with other dogs; so that shouldn’t be a problem. She’d only just started researching service dogs; so she didn’t know all the details yet. But from what she knew, one would greatly be of benefit.
Marco
Marco smiled hearing Rory compliment Trixie, "Yeah she is my sweetie and I know you would love her." He loved his dog and he hoped that Rory could find a service dog that would be compatible with Trixie. He nodded, "Then I have no problem with that. I can help you find one that fits if you like, but we don't have to worry about that now, let's finish our food and maybe watch a movie?" He liked spending time with Rory and he was going to make the best out of having her here.
Rory
Taking another bite of her curry and a sip of her water, Rory nodded at her brother’s words. I’d like that. She smiled. She’d love to enlist Marco’s help with looking for a service dog when she decided to actually go through with that. And she’d love to watch a movie. She was pretty exhausted after the day of unpacking; so curling up on the sofa watching a movie was a great idea.

One word...
Reader P.O.V
As we were walking down the bridge, in magnificent elven city of Rivendell. I was amazed, the waterfalls, mountains and nature were beautiful. I was so lost in amazement that I barely noticed Gandalf speaking to someone, he was elf.
"My lord Elrond is not here." Said elf that was speaking to Gandalf. He looked like he is young around 23 in human years. 'Really (Y/N) he is a freaking elf! He could have around three thousand years easily!' As I lost myself in thought yet again, I was very surprised when dwarfs had pushed me behind them along with Bilbo and encircled us. But everything cleared up when I saw big number of elves on horses thundering towards us. They encircled us.
"Gandalf!" "Lord Elrond! Mellonnen, Mo evinedh? (My friend, where have you been?) " Said Gandalf bowing. "Farranem 'lamhoth i udul o charad, Dagganem tim na Inat Vedui. (We've been hunting pack of Orcs that came up from the South.)" The person who is now known to me as lord Elrond said. He drew his cloak from his horse, and dare I say very gracefully dismounted. He met Gandalf in mere two steps and hugged him. He withdraw from his hug, and took an Orcs sword from his waist, and gave it to the elf who met us when we came here.
"Strange for Orcs to come so near our borders, something or someone has draw them near." Said lord Elrond. Immediately my face etched in guilty expression because I know that we are the ones who drove them near. But in the same moment as I thought that, Gandalf as he has just read my mind said. "Ah.. That may have been us." Gandalf said gesturing to thirteen dwarfs, hobbit and me. Elrond glanced around company, I cached his eyes I looked at and him smiled and nodded. As hello. At last his gaze fell upon Thorin. "Welcome Thorin son of Thrain".
At that point I zoned out of their conversation. Instead I admired elf lord in front of me. He had pitch black, long hair, his eyes were captivating gray, his nose perfectly shaped and his lips thin. Even for elf he was beautiful. My heart stirred in my chest. ' Really Y/N, you are admiring freaking elf! You got off your mind or what?'
"Nartho i noer, toltho i viruvor. Boe i annam vann a nethail vin. ("Light the fires, fetch the miruvor [wine]. We must feed our guests".) Elrond said but that caused confusion between the dwarfs so Gloin decided to step up. "What is he saying!? Does he offers us insult?!" He said in pretty much harsh tone. "No master Gloin he is offering you food". Gandalf replied at which Gloin calmed down and said " Well in that case lead on". I had to stop myself from laughing. Gandalf looked at me confused as to why am I smiling, I just shook my head.
As we were heading to the hall where we will be eating, I stayed behind. I wanted to do something that fell on my mind as soon as I saw the valley.
"You go ahead eat, I'm not very hungry. But I would want to see gardens around here. That is if you approve it my lord Elrond". I said. His gray eyes looked at me, small smile played on his lips and he just nodded. That caused me to smile. "THANK YOU! U-Uh.. I mean I'm ever grateful". My embarrassment got better off of me so I ran away in to beautiful gardens.
-------------------------------------------Time skip--------------------------------------------------
As I was walking around gardens, I remembered my beautiful home. I remembered the place where the sky is ever blue, and hearts are ever kind, from place where the knights are born. Where people smile brighter, and sun shines stronger. My homeland is... Was full of mountains, rivers, forests and waterfalls. My city was just like Rivendell, surrounded by mountains, and trough it flowing clear river. Tears welled up in my eyes as I remembered everything, my burned homeland, my dead family and friends, the torture.. Every memory that I tried to bury and lock deep in my mind came flooding back. My heart started throbbing, and my eyes started wetting. I just fell on soft grass beneath me, and cried until darkness took me.
-------------------------------------------Time skip--------------------------------------------------
I woke up, to see sun setting. My mind started registering that my supposedly short absence lasted at least three hours. So I jumped up on my legs.. BIG mistake as I instantly felt dizzy. But got hold on some tree that helped me steady myself, and walked towards place that I started my walk.
-------------------------------------------Time skip--------------------------------------------------
When I was out of gardens I started walking towards place where I was told that they have dinner. I walked in to see dwarfs on two separate tables, Thorin standing and lord Elrond and Gandalf on the head table. Besides Elrond was elf who I learned his name was Lindir, nice lad. As I was walking in, I just nodded at everyone as my signature way of saying hello, they nodded back and continued eating, but one of the elf maids brought another stool and put it beside Dwalin and gestured for me to sit with smile, I of course smiled back and sat.
"Can't say I fancy maids, they are too thin. They are all high cheek bones and creamy skin. Not much facial hair. Although that one there is not bad." He said looking at clearly male elf, I chocked at water that I was drinking, nearly bursting out laughing. "That's not an elf maid." Dwalin said, Fili turned to face him shocked expression crossed his face, as if asking him really. Dwalin just shook his head. That's when all table, besides me roared in laughter, for me it was just small smile.
"It's funny." He said nodding slightly.
"Thirteen dwarfs, halfling and human strange travelling companions Gandalf." Elrond said looking at us, that caused me to perk up. "These are decedents of house of Durin, and surprisingly cultured. Gandalf said, and I nearly laughed as I saw Bombur stuffing food in his mouth 'Oh the irony'. I thought to myself smirking.
"Change the tune why don't you? I feel like I'm on the funeral."Nori complied "Did somebody die?" Oin added. "Alright lads there is only one thing for that." Bofur said and climbed on the table.
'There is an inn, a merry old inn,
beneath an old grey hill,
And there they brew a beer so brown That the Man in the Moon himself came down one night to drink his fill.
The ostler has a tipsy cat that plays a five-stringed fiddle; And up and down he runs his bow, Now squeaking high, now purring low, now sawing in the middle.
The landlord keeps a little dog that is mighty fond of jokes; When there's good cheer among the guests, He cocks an ear at all the jests and laughs until he chokes.
They also keep a hornéd cow as proud as any queen; But music turns her head like ale, And makes her wave her tufted tail and dance upon the green.
And O! the rows of silver dishes and the store of silver spoons! For Sunday there's a special pair, And these they polish up with care on Saturday afternoons.
The Man in the Moon was drinking deep, and the cat began to wail; A dish and a spoon on the table danced, The cow in the garden madly pranced, and the little dog chased his tail.
The Man in the Moon took another mug, and rolled beneath his chair; And there he dozed and dreamed of ale, Till in the sky the stars were pale, and dawn was in the air.
Then the ostler said to his tipsy cat: "The white horses of the Moon, They neigh and champ their silver bits; But their master's been and drowned his wits, and the Sun'll be rising soon!"
So the cat on his fiddle played hey-diddle-diddle, a jig that would wake the dead: He squeaked and sawed and quickened the tune, While the landlord shook the Man in the Moon: "It's after three!" he said"
The table was MESS! Dwarfs were throwing food around, and nearly got Elrond three times! Gandalf looked like he would love to just disappear, an I wasn't much better. I would so LOVE for earth to open up and just swallow me whole. My face red from embarrassment but also from anger.
"ENOUGH!" I roared, banged my hands against table and shot up from my stool, everything stopped. "NOW LISTEN TO ME! YOU WILL CLEAN ALL, AND I MEAN ALL OF THIS! AM I CLEAR!" I could say that they were scared, even Thorin paled little. But I couldn't care less. I could feel gaze of Elrond and Gandalf and everyone in room. But I couldn't bring myself to care. "But.. we were just having fun." Fili and Kili commented but their bad luck was that I heard them. "You were having fun?! Do you see what you did of this place?! You thought that these poor people are going to clean up your mess?! NO WAY I'm letting that happen! Oh and one more thing.. There is so many that are hungry and you... YOU ARE THROWING FOOD AROUND! Next time you decide to do that, make sure I'm not there. Otherwise... Well you don't want to see what happens!" I was so angry that I could feel my body shaking. But just to stop myself from doing anything reckless, I took deep breath and exhaled. "I'm going for a walk. By the time I'm back, this place is going to be clean. AM. I. CLEAR?" I asked, all of them just nodded, I turned around and ran out. My blood was boiling.
---------------------------------------------Time skip------------------------------------------------
I was lying on my back in gardens watching stars. When I hear someone walking behind me. I turned around to see Gandalf standing there."There you are!" His warm voice rang. "Yeah here I am." I answered. "Mind if I sit?" "No of course not." "What was that back in hall? I mean yes it wasn't good of them to act like that.. But still wasn't enough for you to explode like that." He asked "My actions were not really good I admit.. But I got so angry that I couldn't think properly. I mean when I remember what I had to go trough just for peace of bread.." I started saying but quickly shut up. But apparently not quickly enough because Gandalf straightened his back, "What you had to do?" He asked his gaze confused but also scared. "No.. Nothing forget it.." I said, but his gaze was enough to make me tell him. "Well.. When someone wants to torture you there are two ways. First psychological and second is physical. I got tortured both ways and let me tell you... I wasn't fun at all. One of their physical torture was forbidding me to eat. I would need to be on brink of death to get peace of bread." All my memories came flooding back, my heart throbbed as I began remembering all awful things I had gone trough. Before I got chance to notice it tears were rolling down my cheeks. Gandalf just wiped them off.. "Do not fret little one. You are safe here." He said his voice soothing. "I think it's time for us to go back. You got lord Elrond pretty worried, but also his people were very thankful because you had "forced" dwarfs clean that place up!" He said small smile playing on his lips, which also got me to smile.
---------------------------------------------Time skip------------------------------------------------
Form that night already passed five years, I'm now living in Rivendell. I had gone out with dwarfs to reclaim mountain, but there lost Thorin, Kili and Fili I still miss them. But as I didn't have anywhere to go lord Elrond has offered me place in Rivendell. Now I'm his adviser along Lindir. With both I'm good friends. Although my feelings for Elrond weren't as platonic as they were for Lindir.
'Really I'm again thinking of that! Sober up Y/N! Elf finds love just once, and Elrond already had his! So get back on track!' I was thinking again, musing about Elrond. But my heart was shattering every time when I remembered that elf can only love once, and the one I love has already found his one love, who is waiting for him. But as I continued my musings I saw ellon who stole my heart without even knowing it walking towards me.
"Again lost in thought Mellon?" Elrond asked smiling his tone joking. I was one of few who had privilege to hear him joke an see him smile so genuinely. "Yes... Have lot on my mind..." His smile disappeared as soon as he heard pain in my voice. "What is bothering you Mellon." His voice now serious and concerned, I looked at the eyes I fell in love with, to see that they match with tone of his voice. "I.... I just..." I sighted "There is one person that I love... But I know that he couldn't love me back in million years." I finally said what was on my mind. But Elrond looked taken aback. "Mellon... You never told me you loved someone..." He said.. "Yeah... I did... For long time too.." I said. Elrond didn't looked too happy. "Don't worry Mellon... I promise to you that whoever doesn't love you, doesn't deserve you because he is totally out of his mind." He said "So you call yourself crazy?" I said it even before I could think of it, and as soon as those words left my mouth I regretted them. "Wh.." He didn't even get chance to finish his sentence as I shot up and began running towards my chambers. I could hear him calling my name but I ignored it. As I came to my room, I locked it, threw myself on bed and began crying. Because I knew that it will never be the same. My relationship with Elrond will be completely different. I shattered our friendship! I completely destroyed it with my idiotic behavior!
----------------------------------------------Time skip-----------------------------------------------
I was crying for whole hour, and began drifting off to sleep. But knock disturbed me. "Who is it?" I ask. "It's me Y/N open the door. We have to talk." I heard Elrond's voice trough door, my body was temporally paralyzed. "Y/N open the door." His voice was firm and I figured he was angry, so it would be better to open door before he got more angry. So I got up and unlocked door. As soon as click from unlocking was heard Elrond got in room, and hugged me to his chest. After that without any warning his lips smashed on mine, I could feel every emotion he put in it.. Desperation, pain, hurt, happiness everything.
"My heart, joy and all stars on the sky! I love you too." He said his face bright and in his eyes I could see happiness.
Just that one word. Just word LOVE changed the rest of my life.

itsspookyjim replied to your post “PSA TO THIS FANDOM”
ppl think ancel's pov is odd bc he wasn't involved much w/ the plot, not bc he's a sex worker. some ppl wanted nicaise, also a sex worker and victim of pedophilia, over ancel, which is arguably ALSO gritty, arguably even gritter, but more relevant to the plot bc nicaise gives paschal that letter in the events of KR and literally saves damen/laurent's ass. an ancel pov was a short for a short's sake some ppl have said a berenger pov would be good bc he could give insight into the grittiness of the court - he clearly disliked it and the regent's influence over it - while also giving us access to ancel as well as laurent and to his planning. the main plot of the story is abt kings. ppl want to see those kings, lords and courtiers bring us closer to them. that doesnt mean ppl have beef w/ ancel bc he's a sex worker. no one is even IMPLYING that. ancel's story isnt "invalid" it's just an outlier w/ regard to tone, making it unique in the lack of connection it has with the central plot and i promise u that's it. sometimes things are deep, sometimes they're not
yea i know all that, that’s why my post was focused on wording, on how people present their thoughts; intention doesn’t matter after the fact, etc etc. because the thing is, berenger was created... just on this story. he’s just as irrelevant to the main plot as ancel. he’s actually even MORE irrelevant, he was just a random name before this. if the intention was to show the machinations in vere or laurent in book 1, vannes (or paschal) would probably be the one chosen to do that. and using a berenger pov to tell ancel's story would be a terrible idea. ancel was chosen as the pov for this short story because, to paraphrase pacat, the main story was always meant to end with the charls story, this is just a last bonus because she couldn't stop thinking about ancel. nicaise didn't get a short story because he was already explored in the main series; he's already a sympathetic character. ancel IS the outlier, like you said, because he's the only marginalized character that isn't treated with any care in the main books. pet recontextualizes him, gives him more characterization than "the annoying/materialistic whore" cliche, and shifts the blame of the terrible garden scene on where it rly belongs, which is: vere and laurent (and pacat herself lol).
but tl;dr its just like i said: everyone's more than justified in disliking pet, just be careful on how things are worded, yknow

LFRP ––– VANNES NORTHWIND.
THE BASICS ––– -
NAME: Vannes Northwind
Age: 26
GENDER: Male
SEXUALITY: Bisexual
RELATIONSHIP STATUS: Single
SERVER: Balmung + Maetus
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE ––– -
HAIR: Raven coloured, short and extremely choppy-- almost as if he cut it himself. It’s slightly shaven on the left side and the tufts always stick out in wild places.
EYES: A dull cerulean blue
HEIGHT: 6’1”
BUILD: A slim build with slight muscle mass prominently seen in his upper arms.
DISTINGUISHING MARKS: Most of his scars seem to be hidden behind his clothing and kept away from prying eyes -- though the most noticeable would be the small cuts and bruises that litter his knuckles and hands.
COMMON ACCESSORIES: An odd looking amulet that rests just above the center of his chest -- it’s a trinket gifted to him by his childhood friend/now travelling companion.
PERSONAL ––– -
PROFESSION: Once a street urchin, now he’s a relic hunter for hire.
HOBBIES: Does raising hell count? Vannes greatly enjoys riling people up for a thrill and cares very little for the consequences that follow. Oftentimes you can find him stirring up trouble in a nearby pub only for him to be dragged out by the ear by his tiny, fuming Au Ra companion.
LANGUAGES: Common, Sarcasm, and certain... colourful terms.
RESIDENCE: Inn rooms, empty benches, squatting in a noble’s attic... the list goes on. Since leaving the orphanage all these years ago, Vannes (and Sui) never really had a place to call home. But only recently they’ve acquired a (albeit worn down) caravan that they use to traverse from town to town.
FEARS: While he will never openly admit it, he’s afraid of being abandoned by his childhood friend, or that his wild actions will put her in danger. Vannes is also deathly afraid of arachnids, but you didn’t hear this from me.
RELATIONSHIPS ––– -
PARENTS: Unknown parents -- and he couldn’t care less about them. All he knows is that his mother abandoned him on the doorstep of Ul’dah’s orphanage when he was just a baby, and to this day he still hasn’t concerned himself over them.
SIBLINGS: Again, he doesn’t know if he has any siblings, and he doesn’t care at all. The relationship he shares with Sui is close enough to be considered family, so he thinks of her a younger sister of sorts.
OTHER RELATIVES: None that he is aware of.
NOTABLE FRIENDS: Aside from his companion, Vannes doesn’t really consider anyone his friend. It’s difficult to gain his trust, and even then it’s challenging to maintain it.

ADDITIONAL INFO & HOOKS ––– -
You look familiar... Perhaps Vannes has pick-pocketed you in the past? Bedded you on a drunken whim? Tried to punch you in the face? ...All of the above? Each option is viable, and while he might not be able to recall the face of your character, it makes for a good icebreaker (or jaw-breaker, depending on how he’ll take it)
TIME FOR A GOOD BRAWL! Looking for a good fight? Want to let out your frustrations on someone? Why not try insulting Vannes any way you possibly can! It doesn’t take much and it most often ends up with him throwing hands -- but hey, you were the one who started it!
Could you keep it down? Again, are you looking for a fight? If so, then keep it up buddy... If he’s being too loud or boisterous for your liking, go stand a little further back. There, problem solved!
What do you know about this relic? And this is how you pique his interest (Aside from blatant flirting, of course)! For the past few years he’s been on the hunt for a certain relic, so he’ll take any information he possibly can (or information on any relic in general -- so long as it’s relevant to him and his endeavors). Does your character know anything about a certain treasure trove located near Ul’Dah? Or perhaps they wish to know about one of the relics poking out of his backpack? Talk to Vannes about it and watch him gush.
About that Au Ra behind you... Got something to say about his tiny travelling companion? Go on then, say it to his face. And you best watch what you say about her... lest you wish to be on the receiving end of Vannes’ fist.
WHAT I’M LOOKING FOR ––– -
Ideally I’m looking for ways to expand Vannes’ character/story and entwine it within the ffxiv universe. I’m always down for impromptu or plotted threads as well as forming most types of IC relationships (friends, enemies, drinking buddies, etc. -- Though please note that romantic shipping isn’t really a high priority for me right now, but I’m not opposed to the idea! It can just prove difficult considering Vannes’ character and personality)
OOC INFO ––– -
Despite this Stupid Tol wanting to throw hands all the time, I’m the complete opposite :) the only time you’ll catch these hands is if u ever wanna hold them!
what up, I’m Jesse, i’m 22, and I never fucking learned how to read
a tired uni student from Australia, so timezones might make things a bit difficult... I apologise!
I’m ok with dark/mature roleplay, but no ERP please! Fade to black is fine though.
Discord roleplay is also ok! Though I prefer ffxiv as my attention is less likely to wander.
CONTACT ––– -
Hit me up on tumblr’s DMs and I’ll give you my discord #! I tend to change my name a lot so there’s not really much point in me listing it here. You can also contact me ingame: Vannes Northwind (Balmung) and Vannes Northernwind (Mateus) don’t ask why i have two of him on the same server hahaha

I’m a painter, muralist, overall creative entity, I guess you could say. I just like to inspire people and just to stay in a creative place when I make my art, just to get it out there.
Ron Bauman Where do you find inspiration?
Terrance: Where don’t I find inspiration? Honestly, I’ve had bowls of cereal and got an idea from eating a bowl of cereal. I’m not even making that up. Putting my clothes on, I’ve been inspired by how my jeans wrinkle when I pull them up. One of my dreadlocks will fall down and be curled a certain way and it’ll make me think of an object in a painting.
Terrance: It could literally be anything at this point.
Ron Bauman How does that translate into your art?
Terrance: Vibrations, vibrations. It’s like finding a way to communicate that inspiration to someone who didn’t see what you saw. It usually boils down to a feeling more so than a literal image. Well for me and my art, so it’s like how do I get someone to feel how I felt when I was creating this?
Terrance: Not only that, but to see something through, whether it’s a symbol or a color even to tell a story, how do I do that? That’s what I’m constantly thinking about.
Ron Bauman Where did you find your passion for art? At what age? How did this develop for you?
Terrance: With Dragon Ball Z, oddly enough. Yeah, yeah, with Dragon Ball Z.
Ron Bauman All right.
Terrance: When I was in fourth grade, Dragon Ball Z was like the biggest show ever. All my cousins were actually fairly decent artists at the time. They were in like middle school and high school. I was in fourth grade just trying to do what they were doing with the little characters. My parents put me into the music side. Art was just always my thing. From there it just took on many different lives since then, from graffiti to all different types of things, yeah.
Ron Bauman You grew up in Wilmington, correct?
Terrance: I grew up in Wilmington. I traveled a lot as a kid, just back and forth. My family, like my mom and dad weren’t together, so I was always up here, in lower Delaware, Philly, all over the place.
Ron Bauman Right, do you think that had an effect on your art?
Terrance: For sure, for sure. I think it had an effect on me, because I had to constantly be thinking, because I’m in new environments all the time. You have friends here and then you have friends there and friends here. It’s not always the same.
Ron Bauman Right.
Terrance: It made me a creative person, and I come from a creative family. My cousins and my granddad is an artist. I think it was a thing that was meant to happen.
Ron Bauman Yeah, it’s in your genes?
Terrance: Definitely in the genes, yeah, yeah, for sure.
Ron Bauman What kind of art does your grandfather do?
Terrance: He’s strictly a portrait artist.
Ron Bauman Okay.
Terrance: He used to really make these like hyper-realistic portraits out of pencil.
Ron Bauman Painting? Oh, pencil.
Terrance: Pencil and charcoal.
Ron Bauman Okay, old school.
Terrance: Old school, yeah, definitely old school. It was funny, because when I started getting into it, I draw weird trippy stuff. I would be like, “Hey granddad, hey, check this out.” He’s just like, “What is that?” In the beginning they discouraged me. I won’t lie, because he was so technical and so clean and the generation gap of course. I don’t think he saw how the ideas translated that I was working on at the time. I mean, it didn’t discourage me, it just made me think, “Okay, well that’s not what I want to do.” You know what I mean? We don’t have a lot of art conversations. I think now he’s just like, “Whoa, I like those colors you used there.” “Those shapes, that’s really interesting.” I think his mind is opened since then.
Ron Bauman Now you ended up going to art school, you went to Delaware College of Art and Design?
Terrance: Well, I didn’t really fully attend there. I actually went to School of Visual Arts in New York, but then I dropped out. I was all over the place for a little bit, but I didn’t graduate from there. I actually ended up graduating from the Art Institute of Philadelphia doing web design.
Ron Bauman Oh, okay.
Terrance: I quit art completely. I was like, “Man, I just need to make some money, forget all this.” Web design …
Ron Bauman Was that a natural transition for you?
Terrance: No, no, you want to know what happened? I don’t think I’ve ever really told this story.
Ron Bauman Exclusive content, I love it.
Terrance: It is, it is so I applied, I dropped out and stopped. I had gotten a full ride to go to U Arts. I had a full ride to go to DCAD and a few other schools. I really wanted to go to SVA, because at the time, I think it was the number two school art school. I went up there and I got the full brunt of yuppie New York vibe. It wasn’t necessarily anything wrong, but it just discouraged me from what I thought art was in the art industry. A lot of kids had tons of money and they had ends that I didn’t have. I’m like, “Man, I’ve got 10 bucks and I’m in New York. This is tough, man.”
Ron Bauman Expensive city too.
Terrance: Yeah, the school was $75,000 a year. It was just like, “Oh, I can’t do this, man, this isn’t for me. Not for four years.” I was like, you know what? I’m going to apply to Temple for Tyler, because I had some friends that went there and I didn’t get in.
Ron Bauman Okay.
Terrance: At the time, I was 19, it really hurt my ego man. I thought it would be like I’m in, no problem. They saw I was in a school, they had my portfolio and I didn’t get in.
Ron Bauman Did you find out why?
Terrance: Terrible descriptions.
Ron Bauman Really?
Terrance: Really, at the time I had very limited ideas on how to express myself through writing. Trying to translate what my art meant, it just didn’t click. I could see them seeing it and being like, “This kid’s not ready. He may have the natural talent,” but I don’t think it really fit for that program.
Terrance: Long story short, I was depressed man. I dropped out, the school that I knew I was getting into had rejected me and I had no other plan. There was literally no other plan. I moved back home with my mom from New York, and I was just bummed for six, seven months. Just was like, “Man, forget art.” You know what I mean?
Terrance: I’m not even doing this, because I saw what happened in New York. I just got rejected on the school that I really in my heart of hearts wanted to go to. I started working at Blockbuster, oddly enough. I mean, who knows what that is …
Ron Bauman You’re not old enough to work at Blockbuster, come on.
Terrance: The last year it was around.
Ron Bauman Were you at the last Blockbuster?
Terrance: No, but probably one of the last 10, no joke, one of the last 10. I started working at Blockbuster, because I had a friend that worked there and I could get a bunch of video games for free. I was like, “All right, cool.” Oddly enough, she had met somebody up here in Philly that was like, “Do you know anybody that does art or that …”
Terrance: He was a recruiter for Art Institute of Philly.
Ron Bauman Okay.
Terrance: They have a conversation. She calls me up and says, “Hey, I told this guy all about you. Would you want to do an interview with him for school?” I was like, “Man, whatever man.” I’m like, “Is this guy just trying to poach me just because he has a quota to fill or blah, blah, blah?”
Terrance: I was just like, “Nah, man.” Then I just looked at the website, I was like, “You know what? I don’t got shit that’s going on. I’m working at Blockbuster. It’s not like it’s some high end job here.
Ron Bauman The clock’s ticking, right?
Terrance: Yeah, yeah, it’s not a lot of career advancement. Then they shut the store down.
Ron Bauman Right.
Terrance: I’m like, all right, the store got shut down. I got the guy’s email, emailed him. He shows me the stats. I said, “What can get me a job?” He said, “Web design is a 98% job placement rate.” Signed up right there, and there was no portfolio needed, so I was like, “Hey …”
Ron Bauman Blockbuster was that final shove that you needed to get back to art school?
Terrance: Yeah, it was, it was.
Ron Bauman Never would have saw that coming.
Terrance: Yeah, so Blockbuster, once it shut down, I was like, “Man, I might as well try this.” Once I started, I forced myself to fall in love with it.
Ron Bauman What period of time is this? What year was this that you ended up at Art Institute?
Terrance: Late 2010 into 2011.
Ron Bauman Okay. Still a lot of web design activity, and the front of it, obviously websites were around at that point, but still very much at the height of people needing web design.
Terrance: Oh, it was like the boom. The mobile app boom.
Ron Bauman Right, exactly.
Terrance: It was a good field to get in and I was doing graffiti at the time, so I was living like two lives. I had my little graffiti game that I ran with, and then I was going to school. During that time it was a wild time, it was a wild time.
Ron Bauman Were you back living in Philly now at this point?
Terrance: No, so I was living in Wilmington at first and then I ended up moving back to Philly probably when I had one year left in my tenure there.
Ron Bauman How long did you go there for?
Terrance: Three years. It was really nutty, because I was waking up at 6:00, walking to the train station, which was 10 blocks from my house. Catching the train from Wilmington for my 8:00 AM class, and had three classes all four hours long, and then catch the last train to come back into Wilmington and then go paint outside in the streets for about four or five hours after that.
Terrance: I had a job at a restaurant, and so I was just running wild at that time. I think a lot of it was because of the art not really materializing like how I wanted to.
As the conversation progressed, Terrance described how he started his career in web design for corporate America, and the role it played in his art.
Terrance: After I graduated, I got a job the next day. I literally got a job.
Ron Bauman They weren’t kidding about that 98%!
Terrance: They were not kidding, like it was almost too soon, because I was like, “Damn -”
Ron Bauman Give me some down time, right?
Terrance: Yeah, like I’m trying to –
Ron Bauman Decompress.
Terrance: At the same time, the job was offering me $16 an hour, which I was like, “Hey man,” I was working in a restaurant for tips. I was like, “I need health care, all these different benefits that they have, hey, I’m in there.” I was working for Yellow Book actually, the phone book company.
Ron Bauman You go from Blockbuster to the Yellow Pages.
Terrance: Yellow Pages, it was the same thing when I got there, they went through a whole company rebrand and changed it to Hibu, which was weird.
Ron Bauman Yeah, I remember that.
Terrance: Yeah, yeah, so they changed to Hibu.
Ron Bauman The online directory type of thing?
Terrance: Exactly, so I was in the web department doing that.
Ron Bauman Okay.
Terrance: It was just a factory man. I mean, we’re talking –
Ron Bauman Not artistic at all.
Terrance: No, no, just fields of cubicles.
Ron Bauman Just cranking out –
Terrance: Yeah, cranking out subpar material, just because. Not even for any artistry. I was working there and at first it was cool, I could buy some new clothes, I got a car. I was just getting used to even being able to support myself.
Ron Bauman Existing, right.
Terrance: Right, and then about a year in really just corporate America really hit me. I was like, “Whoa, this is big, there’s something going on here that’s representative of something I don’t want to be a part of and not in that capacity.” Do you know what I mean?
Terrance: I started to be a defector, like I stopped going to meetings. I was one of the best designers there, so no one would really bother me, because I could take all the extreme clients. I was really good at customer service, so I was the only guy that could really take the extreme clients and do it right there on the phone.
Ron Bauman Right.
Terrance: They would pretty much let me do whatever I wanted. I stopped going to meetings and it all started because someone told me to take my hat off. There’s people walking around the office with hats on. I’m like, “Why do I have to take my hat off man?”
Terrance: They’re like, “It’s a department to department thing. I’m like, “We’re on the same floor.”
Ron Bauman Right?
Terrance: I’m literally sitting next …
Ron Bauman Why isn’t just a company thing?
Terrance: Right, I’m sitting next to the IT guy, I’m sitting next to DNS and they have hats and they’re chilling and it was all casual anyway. I’m like, “Why are you asking me to take my hat off?”
Ron Bauman You weren’t client facing, right? You’re probably all over –
Terrance: No, no, no client facing at all, so I was just like, “I see what’s going, you guys are trying to control me, man, that’s what’s really going on.” I started doodling and that’s when I started growing my hair. My locks are literally my journey into art like how long they are, because that’s exactly when I started growing my hair as a protest for them telling me to take my hat off. It started to get wild man.
Ron Bauman That’s awesome.
Terrance: During that process, when I started to grow my hair out, I started to then care less. Now I’m in there doodling. I was borrowing everyone’s highlighters. I had this huge highlighter repository in my joint. I would do these little doodles, I’ll show them to you after.
Ron Bauman Yeah.
Terrance: During my 15 minute break, and then it started being 30 minutes. Then I’m doing hour long, full blown drawing illustrations in the office. People are walking by like, “Hey man, can you draw something for me?” I’m like, “Yeah, sure man.” I’ll draw something for their little desk.
Ron Bauman Right.
Terrance: A few months later I looked down into my drawer, I have a stack like this, hundreds, hundreds of sketches, hundreds of sketches. People were like, “What are you going to do with them? What’s the goal?
Ron Bauman What can you do with them?
Terrance: What can I do? Then it hit me, it hit me literally like a gift. They had industrial scanners.
Ron Bauman At the Yellow Pages.
Terrance: At Yellow Pages. The great thing was –
Ron Bauman Top of the line printer equipment, everything, right? Technology, right?
Terrance: All of it, so I had all the apps I needed and I made a book out of them. I literally made a book all on company time. Literally the entire thing was on company time and I called it killing time. Yeah, that’s what got me started. I made this book, and during that process I started to get back into painting, which I hadn’t done for years.
Terrance: I was terrible at it, and it was really starting to … I was like, “Man, I’ve got to get better at this. I have all these drawings, but it doesn’t feel impactful enough. A painting will take it so much further.” I started just staying up all hours of the night. I’m used to the graffiti hours, so it wasn’t really a problem.
Terrance: I’d get home from work. I was painting 5 to 10 hours after I get home from work.
Ron Bauman Wow.
Terrance: At a certain point –
Ron Bauman Getting obsessive with it.
Terrance: It was just getting crazy, and I knew I no longer really wanted to work at that job. I was putting literally all of my spirit and energy was going into this. Then I would just post little things on Instagram about just what was happening to me just overall with the art and everything.
Ron Bauman What year is this by the way?
Terrance: This was 2014.
Ron Bauman Okay, so Instagram is really starting to hit and get popular?
Terrance: Exactly, exactly. The drawings that I was doing each day, since I would get to work at 7:00 AM, I would check Twitter and get all the news before anyone’s awake. I would do the drawings. It was like magic to people, because by 11:00 AM the news that they’re just hearing about already had a topical drawing about it.
Ron Bauman You were drawing inspiration from current events and news and things you were seeing on Twitter, and then making art from that and putting it on Instagram.
Terrance: Exactly, and some of them were going viral, because it was like no one was up.
Ron Bauman So timely and topical.
Terrance: Exactly, and this was before Instagram was super artist heavy. It wasn’t really a lot of that topical –
Ron Bauman You were cutting through all that static.
Terrance: Exactly, exactly, so it got to a point where then people were just like, “Hey man, what are you doing? Where are you going with this?” And I was like, “You know what? I want to have an art show.” I didn’t know what it really meant to have an art show.
Terrance: Things just started to fall together at a point where it was just beyond synchronicity. It was just actual purpose. Then I recognized it, and that’s when everything changed. I recognized it, not like, “Oh, this is happening. Oh, that’s a coincidence.”
Terrance: Like, no, this is happening because you’re literally supposed to be doing this. You’re not supposed to be doing anything else, especially at this time. Once I recognized that, I was like, oh, no fear. I don’t care about my eight bosses that I have.
Terrance: I’m scanning hundreds of drawings in front of them, like literally in the executive quarters area. I’m scanning these drawings and people are just walking by like this is normal. I was like this is the what I’m supposed to be doing. Then I get a call from a buddy of mine who’s like, “Hey I have a girlfriend who’s opening up a tea shop/gallery. She just opened it up and she wants to have -”
Terrance: I went and looked at the space and I was like … It just like popped into my mind, like literally a just another gift. I saw the whole layout. I knew exactly what I had to do.
Ron Bauman You visualized it, you knew exactly what you wanted to do?
Terrance: I knew exactly, because literally the art series that I was working on, she had painted her walls all these crazy colors. I had no clue. I walked in and saw this and met her and everything, and then she didn’t really see my art though.
Terrance: We just had a conversation, and this is when I knew. The next time I brought the entire collection and was showing her and she cried, she teared up, because she knew what was about to happen. In February I had the show, it was called Life Through Color and 200 people show up.
Ron Bauman Wow.
Terrance: I make like $1,000 my first show. I sold out all my prints and it was just like complete confirmation. I had no other experience on curation or anything like that.
Ron Bauman That’s amazing.
Terrance: I was like, “Oh yeah, I’m out of here man.” Probably seven months later, so I had the show in February, so that year, and I was still working at Hibu, that year from February to November, I either had or participated in about 10 art shows.
Ron Bauman Okay.
Terrance: Once people saw it, it just started to exponentially grow. By November I quit –
Ron Bauman Each one more successful than the last?
Terrance: I wouldn’t say that, but it was like the first one was so big that it was just adding to momentum though. They saw this first one, and they were like, “All right, well how did this … ” Everyone was asking me how I did it and I’m like, “I don’t know man, like I really don’t know.”
Ron Bauman It started with doodles.
Terrance: Yeah, seriously, because a lot of seasoned artists weren’t … It was almost like a coup happening. No one had anticipated it, it came out of nowhere. It changed the whole city, like once once they saw, because I didn’t take any of the avenues to get there that everyone else took.
Ron Bauman This is happening in the creative district down in Wilmington along Market Street?
Terrance: Absolutely, absolutely, and I was one of the first artists that they reached out to, to really start to facilitate some community relationships. It was so surreal to me, because I’m like, I don’t even know how I got here. Do you know what I mean?
Terrance: I’m still working and it came to November and I get this email. It’s from my friend who’s been poaching the Philadelphia Mural Arts listserv and just forwarded them to me. She’s like, “The Sixers need somebody to come up with these mural programs.”
Terrance: I’m like at my desk, at my job and this is when I knew I was going to quit. I was just like at my desk, if I call this man …
Ron Bauman This is it, right?
Terrance: I had no mural experience at the time. Yeah, exactly. I had no mural experience at the time. I had no programming experience at the time.
Ron Bauman Are you a Sixers fan?
Terrance: Oh yeah, absolutely, absolutely.
Ron Bauman Right, so you’re excited, right? This is exciting for you, right?
Terrance: As soon as I saw the Sixers, I was just like, “Okay, if I can somehow weasel my way into being this experienced artist that they’re looking for, I’m in, it’s over at this job.” I knew it, so literally I get on the phone, go into the break room and I call the guy.
Terrance: I’m like, “Hey, I saw your email, I’m an artist here based in the Philadelphia area, blah, blah, blah.” He was just like, “Well, send me some stuff.” I’m just panicking, like, all right, “Let me get some stuff together and I’ll send it to you tomorrow.”
Terrance: Sent it to him. I didn’t hear back until the end of the week. I was just like at my desk, just like please, please. The guy was like, “Oh, it looks great. We’ll give you a call next couple of days and we’ll start setting up how to get you the supplies, blah, blah, blah.”
Terrance: I was just like boom, do you what I mean? The following week, I was just looking around and –
Ron Bauman On cloud nine?
Terrance: Yeah, I knew it was over. I told my manager, I was cool with my manager and I told him, I was just like, “I’m done here. I’m not doing two weeks, I’m not doing any of the formal exit stuff, I’m just done Friday.” She was just taken back, but she was like, “You know what? Everyone knew it was coming.”
Ron Bauman Right.
Terrance: Do you know what I mean? My coworkers came to my first show and they were just like, “Who the hell is this guy?” Do you know what I mean? Then I quit my job and simultaneously while quitting my job, it was all on faith, but I moved into a new apartment.
Terrance: All my bills doubled and I quit my job, do you know what I mean? I’m trying to tell my girl, I’m just like, “Trust me please. I know this sounds crazy, but it’ll work out.”
Ron Bauman Yeah, just believe in yourself.
Terrance: I was just believing like pure, because the events that got me there were so out of my control that I was just like, “This is going to happen, we don’t have to worry,” do you know what I mean? The next month in December, someone who bought some art from me calls me and is like, “Hey, I have two extra tickets to Art Basel in Miami if you want to go.”
Terrance: It was insane, so right after I got done the Sixers thing, we go down to Miami for Art Basel, which is the central art experience in the country really. This is two months after I quit my job. I go down there, first I walked into a hotel that was having an art show.
Terrance: All the art shows are mostly free. I walk in there and Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys are standing right there. Do you know what I mean? I walk into another show and literally bump into Kehinde Wiley, literally bump into him. He turns around, I’m like, “Whoa.”
Terrance: It was just another confirmation, you can take this to the highest level, do you know what I mean? Then I started 2016 off, no job, the most inspired I ever been in my entire life and my rent was paid for two months. I didn’t have to stress on it.
Ron Bauman Right.
Terrance: I just went to town, I painted a whole art show in two weeks, just locked in, just literally locked myself in the studio and was painting for 12 hours a day just off of pure inspiration.
Ron Bauman That’s awesome.
Next Terrance describes his impressions of Nextfab, his first project region’s top makerspace, and being an “artrepreneur”.
Terrance: For years I was just trying to get so good at painting that I wasn’t really thinking about how I could create, not only with other mediums, but in a 3D space. Recently that’s been something I’ve really been trying to focus on, because I’ve got to a place with painting that’s beyond what I thought I could get to.
Terrance: It’s a bizarre, like weird. It’s like I thought it would take me like 10, 15, 20 years to get to the point where I’m able to paint some of the things I can do now. It’s just like, okay, I have to do something else.
Ron Bauman You need another outlet.
Terrance: Right, I need another outlet or this is going to start feeling like a task.
Ron Bauman You just get tired of it after a while. It’s like a musician who keeps playing the same type of music all the time. You can only play the blues for so long before you move onto jazz or country or whatever.
Terrance: Yeah, just expanding what you believe you’re capable of. When I’m in here and I’m seeing 3D printers and I’m seeing laser cut wood being made into these beautiful designs and all these tools, this has been outside of my reach for so long, because I couldn’t afford a 3D printer to … Do you know what I mean?
Terrance: Some of these things just haven’t really been in my consciousness. Walking through here is like walking through Willy Wonka, a chocolate factory type thing for artists, so it’s trippy.
Ron Bauman Awesome, well, I probably know the answer to this, but do you consider yourself an artist or an entrepreneur?
Terrance: Artrepreneur.
Ron Bauman Artrepreneur?
Terrance: Artrepreneur, yeah. Yeah, I’m going to blend them, because artrepreneur is an artist on conveying ideas, developing an idea. An entrepreneur can come up with a new way to develop toilet paper and be a billionaire. Do you know what I mean? Had nothing to do with creative spark, but then artists are, it’s going to sound weird, but artists are almost like a different species of like …
Terrance: It’s almost like some X Men type stuff. Do you know what I mean? A lot of artists, since they’re so in their own minds, a lot of the time they don’t really know how to monetize what they’re doing and how to develop it. I talk to a lot of artists, and the thing that’s missing is they never got encouraged to do that.
Terrance: What’s been reinforced in their mind is that artists are going to be starving. Artists aren’t going to be able to –
Ron Bauman I was going to say, and you’ve really bucked that stigma. You’ve slapped it right in the face. Terrance: Well, there’s ups and downs. Do you know what I mean? I’ve made a lot of money and then bills, parking tickets, court fees, things can add up, do you know what I mean?
Ron Bauman Those who make a lot, you tend to spend a lot too.
Terrance: Yeah, well and it takes a lot to maintain. Making my own prints, developing my own banners.
Ron Bauman It’s not all profit.
Terrance: No, no, no, definitely not. I mean shoot, you can make $10,000 and you’ve got to spend $9,500 on the next project or something. It’s like, “Damn -”
Ron Bauman It forces you to look at it in more of a business sense, as opposed to truly holistically an art form?
Terrance: Absolutely, and I knew I didn’t want it to be just a hobby, so I had to change my thinking. I think because of the first show being so monetarily successful, it supercharged that, because I didn’t have to go through five years of it not working out and not being able to make the money.
Terrance: I saw that it could make money immediately. A lot of artists just didn’t know how to do it. It was because I was working at a place that I learned how to scan my own images, I could scan my paintings and make my own prints. Some artists didn’t know how to do that.
Terrance: I had entrepreneur friends, so I signed up with PayPal and got the card reader for the first show.
Ron Bauman Sure.
Terrance: I had things in place in my mind that were bigger than just creating as an artist. It’s a mix of things.
As our guest always do, Terrance concludes with some advice for aspiring artists.
Terrance: Number one, belief that you can do it, and believe that there’s something larger to you that will help you do it when you’re locked into it.
Terrance: The universe really is paying attention to your intention. If you’re like, “Hey, I want to be an artist,” that’s one level, there will be no response. Then if you’re like, “Hey, I want to be an artist,” and then you start doing it, then it’s a little opportunity comes your way.
Terrance: All right, you could get one opportunity and I’ve seen some people get opportunities and their ego explodes, do you know what I mean? Then that actually prevents them from being able to manifest further things. Believe, stay humble, stay aware of yourself as you grow, and stay aware of the market you’re in, your surroundings.
Terrance: Just stay aware period and have fun with it. Have fun with it somewhere. Even if you’re painting about tough subject matter or have fun painting it, like the actual physical part of painting it, or have fun marketing it. Somewhere along the line, have a lot of fun with it, so that you stay almost in the mind space of a kid.
Ron Bauman Right. It keeps you genuine. Keeps it authentic.
Terrance: Absolutely, absolutely. The last thing I would say is work hard, period. That’s actually the number one for real. I mean, some people are blessed where things just happen, but there’s a lot of internal work that could have happened that people don’t see, do you know what I mean?
Terrance: For me, I do so much mental work before I even get to the canvas. It’s almost harder than physical work.
Ron Bauman Are you ready to have some fun with this Philly weekly box?
Terrance: Yes, yes.
Ron Bauman Let’s give our audience a little a clue into what we’re doing. Terrance here for his first project at NextFab is going to work on a collaboration with Philadelphia Weekly, who is refurbishing their old newspaper boxes. They’ve got a bunch of new ones in. We’re going to take the old ones.
Ron Bauman We’re going to decorate them. We’re going to find some other artists. Terrance is going to be the inaugural artist decorate the PW box here in the paint room at NextFab South Philly. You ready? Terrance: I’m ready.
Ron Bauman Awesome. Well thank you very much for speaking with us today, Terrance. We really appreciate you taking the time traveling up here. Your story is truly inspiring, and we can’t wait to see around the shop.
Terrance: Yeah, appreciate it, man. Thank you.
Ron Bauman All right, man, you got it.
