I wonder if this is something that William will do something in support of? He was patron of the DNRC appeal, right? I feel like William might be the one to open the centre together with Hugh Grosvenor when the time comes or something like it
https://x.com/westminsterfdn/status/1711399540832580003?s=46
I can see it too and yup he was patron of it and opened it back in 2018. The Grosvenors donated $$$ to it

Making Sure Communities are Heard
Tumblr media
September 2019
Meet Michelle Lockhart, one of this year’s seventy-six MCC Conservation Interns. Michelle is finishing up her term as a MCC AmeriCorps member serving with the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) Rangeland Resources Program in Helena, Montana.
Michelle graduated from Purdue University in Landscape Architecture this past spring. A prerequisite for her program was fulfilling one year of internship. To complete this requirement, Michelle worked for a landscape architecture firm in Vermont, where she was indoors the majority of the time, in front of a computer. She realized that the traditional professional pathway for a Landscape Architect was to work at a firm, which was not a good fit for her. So she did some soul searching and reminded herself why she chose to pursue a degree in Landscape Architecture; it was her love for nature and community. Michelle did not waste any time, she googled ‘Natural Resource Internship,’ and the Montana Conservation Corps’ Individual Placement Program popped up. Fast forward and here she is, working in the rangelands of Montana and bringing communities together in conversation on rangeland topics that affect them. Now, as her five month AmeriCorps term comes to an end, she is calmer and more confident about her future.
This is the first year MCC has partnered with the Rangeland Resources Program, and Stacey Barta, the program’s coordinator could not be happier with Michelle’s contribution to the program… ”Michelle was a perfect fit!” Stacey was looking for an intern who had no frame of reference in the rangeland resources field and would thus be able to bring a fresh perspective to the program. The Rangeland Resources Program’s focus is on the collaboration: building positive relationships with diverse groups, so they can be a resource to foster different perspectives and ideas that will assure a sustainable and healthy rangeland for present and future generations.

In Michelle’s first month as an intern, Stacey took her all over Montana for rangeland and beef industry visits. Michelle said she just soaked everything up and asked a lot of question. “Within the natural resource community, I loved talking and learning different perspectives from those most directly impacted.” As her internship progressed, she continued to ask questions of community members while coordinating and conducting educational outreach events and tours on rangeland conservation efforts.
Michelle came to work with an open mind. While in school she had cut beef from her diet to support an environmentally friendly lifestyle, but now she was listening to the ranching communities and the grazing side of the beef industry. She asked questions and learned from the people living it. Michelle believes that so many voices are not heard, “If you are listening, they feel heard and are willing to share their knowledge with you.” She continues, “Exposing yourself to other perspectives is so important as is inviting everyone to the table.”
She wants to make sure communities are heard.
Tumblr media
Michelle’s MCC AmeriCorps term as a Conservation Intern with DNRC’s Rangeland Resource Program concludes October 4th. She is looking forward to going home to Fishers, Indiana to appreciate the big deciduous trees of the Midwest, an appreciation that can be taken for granted except when deciduous trees are few and far between on the rangelands of Montana.
Michelle is thankful for her experience and hopes to return to Montana early next year if she is accepted into MCC’s other Individual Placement Program, the Big Sky Watershed Corps, for a 10 month AmeriCorps term. She now knows she wants to continue learning and working in a field that reflects her love for nature and community and the arena of community and natural resource planning.

Michelle has written a three-part blog series about the ranching side of the beef industry that she has experienced as a Conservation Intern this summer. She hopes her blog will spark a more holistic conversation about beef and its potential pros and cons.

@bitchytimemachineangel Well, this one is easy to answer outside of a book.
This following information is relevant no matter what country you live in, although information about specific types of law is USA-specific
Do not plant flowers on any land that is not your own (without getting permission from the property owner, whether that be private or publicly owned), for both legal and ecological reasons. Here’s why.
You should definitely not spread flowers that are not native to the area for any reason.
No matter where in the world you live -- it can really mess with the local ecology, and even help push native species to extinction.
Successful flower cultivars are very often generalists, which means they’re successful in a wide variety of environments (which is why they ended up becoming mainstream “landscaping flowers”, they can be marketed over a wide range of growing zones) and generally able to outcompete (outgrow, suffocate, etc) the native flowers, which tend to be specialists, or much more location-specific flowers that are often pollinated by one single species of pollinator, etc. Not always, but often.
And now we get to the legality of planting native flowers / weeds.
First, you want to be really aware of the property law concerns. Not all land next to highways is public land owned by the government -- you want to be extremely careful that you’re not messing with the property of other people, as that is definitely both criminal and civil trespassing to be touching their land without permission, and even throwing plant seeds over a fence is almost certainly going to fall under trespassing laws (source: I’m a law student who just finished both criminal and tort law).
And, if the land is owned by the government and not privately owned, depending on what kind of land management the specific area falls under (BLM, national parks, etc), tampering with things like local plant life may even rise to the level of a felony, even if it’s native. You just can’t mess with property that you do not own without permission.
If the land is privately owned, planting native flowers may have some unintended consequences. I’m from Montana, so obvi I’m going to reference things I know; in Montana, a huge amount of land (including next to highways) is privately owned farmland and grazing land for livestock. This kind of land is pretty carefully maintained, because there are things like “Locoweed” (Oxytropis sericea and related species), which is actually a very pretty native flower/plant, that is very poisonous to livestock and ranchers take special care to keep it out of their pastures because it can kill their animals. You don’t want to be accidentally seeding pastureland with flowers that may end up killing animals (to go the morality route) or destroying the property of other people (to go the legal route). That, and seeding open pastureland with flowers can ruin the value of that area for grazing, and may very well end up starving animals when the ranchers were planning on using that acreage for grazing purposes and now can not because it’s full of flowers instead of grass and sagebrush.
Not all native flowers are desirable to have in all areas (like in my previous example), and not all flowers that are common in your area are actually native. For example, Montana is COVERED in oxeye daisies. I absolutely love them, they’re my favorite flower, and I think everyone should have oxeye daisies where they live. The problem? They’re actually an invasive species from Europe that have now covered three continents (natively to Europe, invasively to North America and Australia/New Zealand). Here’s an excerpt from the Washington noxious weed control board from the hyperlink embedded above:
“It aggressively invades fields where it forms dense populations and decreases plant species diversity. Oxeye daisy decreases crop yields and is a weed of 13 crops of 40 countries. It is a particular problem in pastures. Oxeye daisy was changed from a Class B to a Class C noxious weed in 2013.”
TL;DR don’t plant flowers in places you don’t own without permission because it can do really bad things that you don’t intend to do.
Best bet TO GET PERMISSION FROM SOMEONE:
If you live in the United States, check in with your local Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Department of Agriculture (USDA), local conservation and land management groups, or other governmental organizations and get permission, and very often those organizations can point you to volunteering options to get involved in things like wild land rehabilitation, conservation, and other kinds of nature-positive projects.
They may even take suggestions or project ideas or solicit nominations for rehabilitation sites!

February 11th, 2020. Defense Medical Rehabilitation Center,  Loughborough.
Tumblr media
“Today The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, together with The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, to meet patients and staff. DMRC Stanford Hall rehabilitates some of the most seriously injured members of the British Armed Forces, whilst also helping to return those who have been injured in the course of training to work. Facilities at the centre includes gyms, swimming and hydrotherapy pools, alongside social spaces and places for relaxation. DMRC Stanford Hall is part of the Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre (DNRC) programme, which was spearheaded by the late Duke of Westminster to provide 21st century clinical rehabilitation for the Armed Forces and the Nation on the Stanford Hall estate — In 2018 The Duke of Cambridge attended a special ceremony as the Defence facility was handed over to the nation by the current The Duke of Westminster.”
via Kensington Palace instagram
This is the first joint engagement of the Wales and the Cambridge’s in about 9 years. 9 years! It makes sense that this is happening now though--the Cambridge’s have been stepping up and this is almost like a passing of the baton.
It seemed like everyone was very calm and relaxed and there were some adorable family moments:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kate and Camilla look like they coordinated today! Collared coats in deep jewel tones, top handle bags, and suede boots--they’re twinning and I kinda like it.
Tumblr media
Kate’s skirt suit is by Alexander McQueen. The coat is military inspired and very appropriate for this visit. Today also marks 10 years since the designer Alexander McQueen passed away so this is a very thoughtful outfit.
This is a silhouette from McQueen that Kate really really likes. She’s been wearing it since Remembrance day of 2018 with varying detail.
Tumblr media
She’s also carrying a new McQueen Wicca bag, boots are Ralph Lauren, and earrings are Mappin and Webb “Empress.”
In terms of this as an actual look---it missed the mark. The combination of the skirt’s length, the flare of the skirt, and the peplum of the coat makes this look quite dowdy. I’m not sure what would make this better--a shorter hem for starers-- but I also think the way the top of the skirt is quite snug and then flares looks odd, so maybe even just loosening the top and making this more A-line without all those extra pleats would have helped.
Shortening the hem to make it look more like her purple Oscar de la Renta and D&G skirt suit would have also been flattering. I hope we see this look again soon with a reworked skirt.

On this day a very special person was born - Gerald Grosvenor. 🌾🦁 You all know that Gerald Cavendish Grosvenor ( 6th Duke of Westminster) was the father of Hugh Richard. 🌾 🌞🦁🦁🌾 Some facts about him: 1) As a child the Duke lived on an island in the middle of Lower Lough Erne in Ulster (Ely Lodge, Blaney, County Fermanagh). 2) His early education was in Northern Ireland before he was sent at age 7 to boarding school at Sunningdale, followed by Harrow. 3) He had Ulster accent. 4) As the Earl Grosvenor he joined the Territorial Army in 1970, as a trooper, family estate responsibilities having caused him to abandon a Regular Army career in the 9th/12th Lancers. 5) In May 2011 The Duke became Deputy Commander Land Forces (Reserves). He retired from the Armed Forces in 2012. 6) His main personal recreations were field shooting and fishing. 7) He was the President of more than 19 different charities and organisations such as "Scope", "National Kidney Research Fund", "Nuffield Hospitals", "Royal National Institute for the Blind", "National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children" and etc.

Note
I think one of the reasons why Hugh is feeling so conflicted is coz since his father passed away, he's been working on DNRC project. It was his father's passion project and he died without seeing it get completed. So it became Hugh's passion project. But it got completed this year, so I think Hugh feels empty. He's beginning to realise that he is free to pursue his own dreams. He doesn't have to spend his life pursuing his parents' dreams. But point remains for him, what does he want?
That is so sad, what you wrote. Unprocessed grief manifests by throwing yourself into doing something that your passed away parent would have wanted to do, accomplish, finish, and when that thing is done the distraction is gone and the raw emotion, the hurt, is still there.
What you wrote makes a lot of sense.
