The boy you were thinking about was no longer a little boy.

Seokmin was maturing in more ways in one—not only had he gained more responsibility now, but his whole face was changing. His jawline was sharpening, and his eyes became less of a boy's and more of a man's, dark and alluring.

And to think you were his best friend ever since you two were young.

Even though joy was in the air from Seokmin's newfound destiny, you couldn't bring yourself to remain happy. Before you knew it, you were starting to become saddened by it, and jealousy ate away at you like a worm does an apple.

Everything you and him had built together was about to be torn down. Seokmin had found his purpose, and it meant leaving you, which hurt more than you thought it would.

As his best friend, you knew that this was what he was made for, and therefore you should be happy for him, but you just couldn't. He was yours—he had always been yours. Would you have to change that?

Would he change it?

"There you are! I was getting worried, you know—you just ran off." Seokmin's voice was sweet as he plopped down beside you, hands encasing yours as he looked at your teary eyes. "Hey, what's wrong?"

He pulled you to him, warmth spreading through your body as you breathed him in. His curly hair brushed your forehead, but you didn't mind it, clinging onto him for dear life as he clung to you and comforted you.

"Can you tell me what's wrong now?" Seokmin smoothes your hair down as you pull away, and you look at him, heart pounding as you whisper, "I don't want to lose you,"

"Lose me? Why would you lose me?" Seokmin's voice falls, and before you know it, Seokmin's eyes are filling with tears. Would he lose you?

"Seokmin, you're destined to be king. You have your destiny—what if...what if it's not with me?" You are aware of how childish you sound, but what else can you do? The child in you felt like it was being torn apart, sat to watch the raging fire around it burn and consume until there was nothing left.

Seokmin didn't want to ever think about leaving you—you were his everything. He breathed in the smell of you and exhaled your sweet laugh every day, and he wouldn't change it for the world.

"Don't you dare say that." Seokmin whimpered, softly cupping your glistening cheeks with his hands as he wiped them away with his thumb.

"No matter what destiny you or I have, I'll always make room for you. You are worth far more than any destiny, magical sword, or riches I could receive. Destiny is nothing to me when I have you." Seokmin swears, and you place your hand on his heart, feeling it beat in time with yours.

"I don't say that because you're my best friend. I say that because I love you." Seokmin whispers again, and he leans in, eyes searching yours as you hold onto his wrists. His hands are warm against your face, and it keeps you from crying as the tear teasing his eye finally falls.

"These tears that I cry are for us. You don't have to cry anymore now." Seokmin's voice falters, and he swallows, lips falling against yours softly as he pulls away.

"Seokmin..." You say quietly, still in shock from the kiss. Your whole body is on fire with love for him, and you don't say anything else, going back in for the kiss as you give it up. All the worries, fears, and doubts you had before dance away like ashes in the wind, and all you're left with is the hope of a future with Seokmin.

A future where destiny can be changed for two star-crossed lovers.
