GOD sometimes it genuinely irks me that stories like Orpheus and Eurydice or even Adam and Eve are criticized under a purely logical and heartless eye. "Why did Orpheus turn around" because he loved her. "Why did Adam eat the fruit" because he loved her. They both chose love over God. And they were punished for it and eternally cemented as fools.
Do you really think that Adam doesn't know what the one goddamn thing he's not allowed to eat LOOKS like? Do you really think that Orpheus would feel better if he hadn't turned around only to find Eurydice's cries for him were real? These stories are about pure love. They're about being punished for the sin of a love that conquers all else. They're both about forsaking God(s) to that end.
TLDR: If a God is going to forsake you for love than they are not a loving God. And they are directly to blame.
#it's controversial thoughts like this that got me time outs in empty dark rooms in primary school!#jokes on them I'm neurodivergent I liked being left alone like that#tw: religion#just in case#not marvel related#good news for the gays tho#diversity win! God hates EVERYONE! including the straight couples!#anyway this is a wildly different genre of post than I normally make but I've literally been bugging myself to make it for *years*#I could go on to talk about the blatant disrespect these stories give Eve and Eurydice#(ahem their importance in the stories boil down to women = bad women = weak women = stupid women = evil seductress)#but there's so many posts like that already I'm sure so I just wanted to shout out my boys Adam and Orpheus#who just love their wives. so goddamn much.

Why I love What If It’s Us
I never type anything on here but I really wanted to put my thoughts out into the world...so yeah
ALSO SPOILERS KINDA I THINK
This book was honestly one of the cutest things I’ve read all year. And I’ve read a lot of cute things this year including Simon Vs. The Homosapiens Agenda which was BEYOND CUTE 🥰. Anyways, I always go online into the book community after I finish reading a book because I love to see people love a story and characters and plot as much as I do. But so far I’ve been seeing this book get a decent amount of hate/dislike from people. There was even someone who posted a YouTube video filling BASHING AND TEARING APART the book without even trying to see one good thing about it. And ik, to each their own and everyone has their own opinions, but this book is honestly just amazing to me.
For me, it’s not just some random cutesy ya summer romance book, ITS REPRESENTATION. Being lgbt+ I loved reading a book like this whose main characters were gay. I’ve only ever read books like these with straight couples but god the representation made my heart so happy. A lot of people hated the cliché stuff and the Harry Potter références but I loved it all so much because it felt quirky and cute to me.
Also the characters Ben and Arthur are so purely realistic to me. I’ve seen some people say that they think the characters are flat and clichéd and whatever but I think there are so many layers. Like Ben is Puero Rican guy, who struggles in school, who has insecurities, who’s realistic about life but totally open to the idea of the universe and all the unrealistic stuff. Also the fact that he feels like every good thing in his life isn’t there to last/he will always fuck up the good things in his life because this far he hasn’t had that great a go with things is so authentic me because honestly I feel the same way with my life. ALSO Ben is his badass writer who writes about his life kinda as like an outlet to for what’s going on with his life. To me, when I was reading it is was like a way for him to deal with the stuff in his life (e.g. throwing Hudson’s character in a dungeon as a way of trying to dealing with their break up because they broke up in the one of the worst ways possible) and also document his life which I thought was super cool. Arthur on the other hand is Jewish, has ADHD which (based off what I know about it) is represented I think pretty good in the novel (don’t quote me on that though, I would need to do more research about ADHD and compare it to book), he’s smart, loves musicals, SUPER AWKWARD, he’s totally philosophical about the universe and it’s meaning and what it has in store for our lives. Honestly, I could go on and on and find so many different layers to each of these characters if I went through the book again and DEEPLY ANALYZED and curated some personality traits, but I think this is good.
Honestly, people can hate on the book all they want. But for me, and I think for the lgbt+ community it’s a win for us. For representation. For there just being this cute romancy ya fiction novel that casually introduces diverse people like a BIROMANTIC ACE CHARACTER (🙌👏👏👏) because these people are actually a part of the world and including them makes this book even more realistic.
This is a 3AM rant about my love for this book. Don’t know really where I was going with it. Just wanted to get my thoughts and feelings down because I wanted to share the love that this book deserves. ❤️❤️❤️🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈 ok I’m done
