Today is Dissociative Identity Disorder Awareness Day 💙 Dissociative Identity Disorder is wildly misunderstood, with many thinking its fake, should be obvious for people to see/tell, and that you literally have multiple personalities. My Story: During 2016 when my mental health was the worst it had ever been, I finally found "the right therapist" - someone I felt safe & comfortable with - and because of this finally had a real diagnosis: Instead of a long list of symptom diagnosis, my therapist looked at everything as a whole. Considered all of my history. And she truly listened. After a couple of months of seeing her, getting to know each other, and sharing everything, we had a very honest conversation... not going into detail as it was & is a very personal process, it is triggering for others, and it is still extremely triggering for me to talk about my past.... but the outcome was a Dissociative Identity Disorder diagnosis. Once we switched gears on treatment, things started happening: It got darker when we first started addressing my alters & traumas, but if we hadn't my problems would have never improved: I had to dig deep, and face things I didn't/don't remember, and/or things that caused me severe embarrassment, shame or self loathing. Fast forward 4 years: My alters and I live in peace (for the most part lol), and I am mentally the healthiest I have ever been. EMDR is the therapy we used, and still use: Has been amazing for my recovery. I also have Rapid Cycling Bipolar 1 Disorder (depression - mixed episodes - hypomania - mania: every month): We use Lamictal to help keep my moods stable - I miss it one day and mania comes back full force! Last time I ran out of medicine I jumped out of a car going 50 mph and almost died. 2009-2010 I went through Dialectical Behavior Therapy: It helped me find the strength to leave an abusive relationship, and start healing. Highly recommend for everyone: Mental illness or not. DBT also helped, and still helps, with my severe generalized anxiety - part & parcel with DID and BP1. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜 #dissociativeidentitydisorderawarenessday https://www.instagram.com/p/CMDt0yBDH4G/?igshid=18br0vmor0qtz

There is so much noise and disruption going on around us. Today, take some time and from everything. Even if it is only for a short while. Give yourself the gift of a little time to get away from the buzzes, dings & beeps. Today is also (mine is Michelle...what's yours)
