if i had a nickel for everytime disney had an optimistic, idealistic female protagonist embark on a journey where she has to grow up and face the real world with a snarky, reluctant guy who's only forced to help her but comes to care about her very deeply, i'd have 3 nickels, which isn't a lot but its weird its happened thrice

On a much brighter and lighter topic!
I originally wanted to make this post on my side-blog about fairytales, but I'll do it here thanks to having a wider audience. Because I have not seen people talk about this when I think it should?
I want to talk about Disney's Enchanted and its sequel, Disenchanted.
Tumblr media
So we all know that Enchanted is Disney's self-homage and parody of all the classical Disney fairytale movies. It is the quintessential boil down and humoristic summary of Snow-White, and Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty, and the Little Mermaid, and so forth and so on... It is all their tropes and archetypes and the like. That has been well established, well analyzed, well discussed upon.
Tumblr media
But when it comes to Disenchanted, Enchanted's sequel, there is I think something people completely missed... Haven't you noticed that this movie had the quintessential feel of a "Disney sequel"?
Literaly and figuratively. They pull tropes and ideas and concepts from all the Disney sequels, from The Little Mermaid 2 to Cinderella 3. And by extension, when you look at Disenchanted as a whole, you actually get this very unique and distinct feeling of a Disney sequel. This feeling hard to put into words but that you have upon looking at The Lion King II, or Aladdin II, or the 101 Dalmatians II.
Tumblr media
You know the feeling. You know the type of thing I am talking about.
The movie is not as great as the first one and can only be compared badly to it, but it is still a fine and enjoyable product on its own right.
The movie expands the universe set by the original, and yet it feels like this new story is of a much smaller scope than the first.
It explores the consequences and the aftermaths of the first movie, usually through a "next generation".
It feels weird somehow. Not "uncomfortable" weird, but somewhere between "funny" weird and "bizarre" weird.
Or is it just me? Whereas Enchanted is the essence of typical Disney "classics"... Disenchanted really managed to recreate and sum up perfectly the feel of a "Disney sequel".

Once upon a time, in a magical kingdom known as Andalasia, there lived an evil queen. Selfish and cruel, she lived in fear that one day her stepson would marry, and she would lose her throne forever. And so, she did all in her power to prevent the prince from ever meeting the one special maiden with whom he would share true love's kiss. — Enchanted (2007)

Kingdom Hearts 4 Challenge Day 1: A World You Want to See

Andalasia!
Okay. Realistically, I know that there could be some issues here. Probably first and foremost being the whole "real people in this movie" thing. Like, I guess the reason that Giselle isn't an official Disney princess is because that if she was, every time Disney used Giselle somewhere, they'd have to pay Amy Adams royalties. So that kind of explanation could be a reason that "Enchanted" might never show up in a Kingdom Hearts game. But wouldn't the same sort of rules be true of the characters in Pirates of the Caribbean? Or Tron? And yet we had those worlds in Kingdom Hearts. So (I could be wrong about this). But I feel like there's a still chance we could get this world, then, if we got those ones.
Another issue is that some of this movie, arguably, might not work that well (the New York part). But I don't know. Either they could not adapt that part of the film, or they could throw Heartless in there (like they have so many other Disney movies "that wouldn't work," to give us something to fight), or make it a mini-game world (in my opinion, with the New York being the mini-game section, and the parts that would adapt well acting as a normal KH section, like fighting Narissa alongside Giselle), or something.
Because you can't tell me that the parts of this movie that do lend themselves to KH well would be marvelous to see. I also feel like Giselle would make a perfect new Princess of Heart, of course. And if they did the humor right, we'd also get some wonderful levity in KHIV with this film.
Personally, Andalasia has been my dream world for a while now. And--while I still doubt it'll ever happen--I'll never completely give up hope on it, and I'd love to see it:)

🎁
send me a 🎁 and I’ll write five sentences of what I’m working on and share one
(i didn't wait for your answer. i just wrote. here's six sentences......ish)
Charlotte King had never imagined herself to be someone who laid things out bare and all...emotional. No. That wasn't who she was. But the new intern at Grey Sloan....fuck. Something about Giselle Phillips made her wish for some bravery.
And Charlotte was nothing if not brave on a normal basis, come on. That's just --- She sighed, running a hand through her hair as she processed what she was just thinking.
Why did Giselle Phillip spark something so --- damn daunting inside of her? Giselle was claiming to be a literal fairy tale princess; so maybe that's why. Charlotte had long since given up on fairy tales. But this -- she -- was something different special....
Charlotte gave herself a good shake.
At least she wasn't planning on breaking out in song.
Charlotte wished she could say the same for Phillips.

Let’s try again, with a more complete drawing! Guess that actress!

1 hour portrait progress. Guess the actress! The first to guess correctly gets a free non-rendered (no shading, just outline) anime portrait of a character of their choosing.

If Chad Charming really did turn out to be adopted, I wouldn’t accept anyone else as his biological dad except Prince Edward from Enchanted because… well, just look at them.

I love how Giselle turned out!🤍🤍
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Make a wish!”
Giselle’s wedding gown! Now this being the 1810s we don’t have the huge puffy sleeves BUT I think the amount of fabric & sparkles that could be on this dress would clearly make her a princess to a passerby.
Queen Victoria of course is very famous for making white synonymous with wedding dress, however even before it was set in stone it was still common to see wedding dresses in white because in the decades leading up to Victoria’s wedding bright whites were exceptionally fashionable and were usually the most elaborate or expensive gowns the brides had anyway, which was the original qualifier for a wedding ensemble.
This dress is heavily inspired by the wedding dress of Princess Charlotte of Wales in 1816. It doesn’t have her cape & the accessories, hair, etc are very much based on the movie’s choices but the dress design are all inspired by the Princess.
