Bi Tao: Waxing poetic about their rivalry
Lü Shang: Genuinely has no idea who this petty little bitch is

Bi Tao (sketch + story extra)
Tumblr media
Part 2 of putting everyone in hanfus, I think Li Ling and Yun Chuan might be next I think!
Tumblr media
Another short story, I did a bit of character study and put my own twist on it! Some quotes are directly from his esper profile thing lol.
(English isn’t my first language, sorry! I still think I ate with this one)
—————
Steam curled languidly around Bi Tao’s face, masking the sharp lines of his features. The man lounged against the slick stone edge, water lapping against his chest as faint tendrils of purple smoke mingled into the mist from the pipe that hung from his lips.
The scene replayed in his mind again and again—the way Lü Shang had stared at him, calm and unbothered, as if Bi Tao were nothing but air.
He drew a deep pull from the pipe, the bitter tang of the herbs attacking his tastebuds. Yet it couldn’t compare to the bitterness left in his heart as the words left Lü Shangs lips
“Shixiong, you must be mistaken” Lü Shang had said, with maddening politeness. No sneer, no edge of malice. Just indifference.
Bi Tao let out a low Humorless laugh, smoke spilled from his mouth and billowed around him, disturbing the lazily rising mist around him. Shixiong, he had said, as though they were equals.
Bi Tao clenched his teeth, biting down on the pipe until it creaked. He had cut the man off before he could finish, spitting venomous words about long-forgotten debts, declaring him his arch nemesis.
And what had Lü Shang done? He had only looked at him with that same maddening, infuriating calmness, as though Bi Tao were a stranger.
He doesn't even remember me.
“Shizun clearly doesn’t know what you’re talking about!” He couldn’t even remember the girl who had spoken up for her Shizun.
“Shizun.” The words tasted like bile, souring on his tongue as his lips twisted into a sneer. "You don't deserve that title. You never did."
He flicked ash from his pipe into the spring. Lü Shang. The calm, collected, beloved Lü Shang was everything Bi Tao despised. He was content to sit by a lake and fish, to guide one last disciple with sincerity, as though the past hadn't left scars. As though the efforts Bi Tao spent to ruin his imagine didn’t even leave a scratch.
Lü Shang is a calm pond, full of fish, clear and shallow. He doesn't know what it means to boil. To seethe. To claw one's way to the top.
Bi Tao remembered that day clearly. The courtyard was crowded with elders and disciples as he prepared for his speech, rehearsing every word meticulously. It was meant to be his moment.
But his cultivation faltered. He staggered, his vision blurred and his voice was trapped in his throat. The last thing he saw before collapsing was the shimmer of Lü Shang's robes—the perfect Shidi who had captured everyone's hearts.
When Bi Tao awoke in shame, no one spoke of his failure; instead, they whispered of how Lü Shang had carried him from the stage like a tragic hero.
He stole my moment
Bi Tao slammed the pipe into the water, sending ripples across the surface. He leaned forward as he watched the embers of the pipe extinguish and go under, his long hair clung to his face. He had spent years clawing his way back from that humiliation. Years of scheming, strategizing, and plotting to rise above all others.
“One day, you’ll pay twice over for the past”
But no matter how far he climbed, no matter how many enemies he crushed beneath his heel, Lü Shang always came out stronger.
But that wasn’t the worst part.
The worst part had to be the truth.
Bi Tao’s nails scraped against the stone. A fantasy twisted in his mind, he imagined looming over Lü Shangs lifeless body, imagined his polite expression faltering. Yet… Victory felt hollow in his heart. It always had- What he truly wanted, he realized, was not Lü Shang’s defeat.
It was his attention.

Here are some miscellaneous sketches I drew and took a photo of the same time as the animatic concept arts. But took me a while to post because of writing the image descriptions. I hope you like them!
Image Descriptions:
Image 1: Is of Desmond Sycamore from the Professor Layton Series. It is a side profile styled shot from head to shoulders. He is looking to our left with a surprised expression. He has his red rectagular glasses on and is wearing his signature double breasted waist coat, tie and white button-up shirt.
Image 2: Is also of Desmond, but in a 3/4's angle facing to our right slightly downturned. It is also head to shoulders since it's easier to draw and is good for simple expression practices. He has a bit of a confused pout on his face. He's wearing his rectangular glasses but a dark button-up shirt.
Image 3: Is of Desmond as Howl. As a sort of fun Howl's moving castle au. It depicts him in the scene after he first returns in his semi-bird form. Its a 3/4's shot with his head up as he reclines in his chair. He has a slight discomforted expression and has feathers in his hair and from his face. He is turned to our right and has a small window in the background about the same size of his head to the right of his face.
Image 4: Is of Meier Link and Charlotte from Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust (the movie). It has Meier and Charlotte facing eachother. Head to shoulders (for Meier more of a head to lower bicep due to his height), side profile. Meier is facing her to our right while she faces him turned to the left. Both looking into eachothers eyes with a fond, soft expression.
Image 5: Is of D from Vampire Hunter D. He is drawn in a 3/4’s angle looking to our left. From a head to shoulders shot. He has a neutral if not discontented expression. In his big brimmed hat and armour.
Image 6: Is of Lü Shang from Dislyte. He is also in a 3/4’s shot turned to our left and is drawn from head to shoulders. He is smiling warmly and kindly and giving the viewer a wave with his right hand.
Image 7: Is of Anton Herzen from Professor Layton. It is based on his introduction in the game. He is drawn in a 3/4's angle, head to shoulders shot. With a light smirk looking to the viewer. He is turned to our left and has the moon looming behind him.
Image 8: Is of Anton and Sophie from Professor Layton. You can tell I was in a bit of a Pandora's/Diabolical box kick since its October. But in this shot it was based on the scene Anton and Sophie were dancing. They are looking into eachothers eyes with warm smiles in a side profile. And is from head to waist. Sophie is on our left and Anton is on the right. Her hand rests on his shoulder while Anton has his on her side.
Image 9: And final, Hayden from Fields of Mistria. He is drawn from head to lower hip and is based on his game sprite. He like the other sprite redraws are in a 3/4 and is facing to our right. He has his usual welcoming smile and is giving the viewer a slight wave with his left hand and the other is tucked a bit under his belt hook.
End of Description.
Bonus little facts:
I drew some characters from The Vampire Hunter D movie because I'm planning to rewatch it again for Halloween this year. The style is just really pretty and unique. And has become sort of a tradition in these past three years.
I got a while back Lü Shang in Dislyte since i casually play it and really was interested in his story and quest in the game. Just a really nice character. I only got him after saving enough of those crystals when you get repeats or 5 stars.
I might try to edit an edit of Pandora's/Diabolical Box for Halloween, after rewatching the cutscenes. I also might draw more sketches but I can't make any promises. Little extra fact this is one of the three Professor Layton games (Curious Village, Pandora's/Diabolic Box and Last Spectre/Spectre's call.)
End of Post.

Warnings: Drinking, other than that none this is just pure self indulgent fluff. This is short
This probably sucks </3
I headcanon Lü Shang is very good at cooking

Lü Shang/Reader
It was late in the evening, and you were just getting home from a long day of work. You sighed heavily, opening the door of your apartment and shutting it behind you. As soon as you walked in, you could smell the scent of something savory in the air. Was Lü Shang cooking dinner?
“Lü Shang? I’m home, wha-“ You called out, but before you could ask a question, you felt a pair of arms wrapping around you from behind. “Lü Shang? What are you cooking..? Smells amazing.” You question. He replies, “I had some luck while out fishing today, dear. I thought I’d cook us a nice dinner. It’s almost finished, so you’re just in time.” He excitedly leads you to the kitchen, to which you see the table made up nicely. He’d even set out a fancy bottle of wine?
“Lü Shang! What’s the occasion?” You’re left surprised at his thoughtfulness, to which he simply replies, “Nothing, dear, I just figured we could have a date night at home.” You smiled and turned around to face him, pressing a kiss to his cheek. “I love it. Thank you Lü Shang. What all are you cooking? “Grilled sea bass, mixed vegetables, rice and sliced avocado.” He replies with an equally enthusiastic smile.
You decide to sit at the table and wait. The scent of candles lit and food cooking wafted through the air and it only made you hungrier. You watch him finish up and serve dinner with a rather proud smile on his face. He didn’t cook too often, but when he did it was always special. Wasting no time in pouring a glass of wine for each of you, your eyes follow your husband as he sits across from you.
You thank him for the meal, and the both of you make small talk over dinner. Lü Shang talks about his day fishing, and how he caught more fish than his usual. As you drink more wine, you can feel yourself loosening up and beginning to ramble about your job, and he chuckles when you mention some of your annoying coworkers. “Dinner is wonderful dear, thank you-“ Lü Shang chuckles to himself, he could tell now the wine was making you tipsy- you weren’t even aware that your speech was beginning to slur. “I think that’s enough wine for you, dear.” He takes another sip of his, and observes you.
As you feel the buzz start to feel stronger, you decide to stop taking sips of the wine. It was rare for the two of you to drink together, but you enjoyed the way it made it so much easier for the two of you to loosen up and be affectionate with each other. Lü Shang was already quite physical with his affection, so when a few glasses of wine was added to the mix, he simply couldn’t keep his hands off you- not that you minded at all.
After dinner, Lü Shang cleans up in the kitchen before he takes you with him to bed. He can tell how exhausted you are and how the wine is affecting you, so he gently pulls the blankets over both of you, and wraps his arms around you. This was a side of Lü Shang you loved- when he was touchy and affectionate, a part of him nobody else gets to see but you. “I love you, dear. I really enjoy cooking for you.” He says. You turn over to face him, and gaze into his golden eyes. Another thing you loved about him- his eyes conveyed more affection than words could ever.
“You’ll have to cook for me more often, dinner was perfect. You know me so well.” “Anything for you dear. Come give me a kiss-“ You could tell the wine had affected him too, he was being awfully lovey-dovey. You loved it when he was like this. You leaned in and kissed him, you could taste dinner on his lips but you didn’t care. You both grinned into the kiss, and you felt giddy when his arms wrapped around your waist to pull you closer. The warmth of his proximity was amplified by the alcohol, and you never wanted this moment to end. You rested your head on his chest, and the both of you took almost no time in passing out and falling asleep.
You’d both have a hangover in the morning, but you could worry about that later.
Probably a little ooc probably bad I’m sorry I was actually drunk writing a portion of this but.. anyways hi I’m alive
