About the Blog & the Author Behind It

The Blog:

This blog's primary focuses include: Star Trek (The Original Series and TOS films), the Spirk ship (Kirk/Spock), other variations of ships of the triumvirate (Spones, McKirk, and McSpirk), and anything regarding Leonard Nimoy, the actor who portrayed Spock in Star Trek: TOS.

The blog was created to showcase the blog author's creations and contributions to the Star Trek fandom (coming soon, I promise). It's also to record other important contributions to the fandom; such as artwork, fanfiction, music, zines, memes, edits, behind-the-scenes facts and photos, as well as TV show and movie screen caps and scenes.

The blog was first created on November 20, 2023, but not revamped until July 16, 2024 for the Star Trek fandom.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This blog occasionally features text and images that are NSFW, so minors be warned (you can still interact with me, but just be wary of any adult-themed content you might see on my blog). It's also not spoiler-free -- proceed with caution!

Reason for the URL:

Mazarine: being one of the names of the author of the blog, meaning "deep blue color".

Memories: the author has always had a fascination with psychology and memories. This is also a nod to the many decades of hard work, passion, and dedication from many of the cast, writers, filming crew, and fans who kept this series alive; the legacy of multiple forms of art left behind; and the inspiration of many people to pursue STEM careers and further the advancement of human society.

The words put together: the memories of the blog's author that give them a reason to live, to be strong, to be logical, to never give up despite the hardships of life, and to leave the world a better place than when they first entered it. The URL also has a nostalgic feel to it, as the series is a source of nostalgia for some.

The title:

Ad Astra Per Aspera is Latin for "through hardship to the stars". Not only is it a personal favorite motto of the blog's author, it's also a most fitting quote for Star Trek's philosophy.

My name is Mazarine A.S.C. (Mazarine Alcine Severen-Cress). I also go by Mazz, Mazzy, Mazzy Star (like the band), and Masc. (Someone once called me 'Mezzanine' and I accept that too, I like Massive Attack.) I'm a fic writer as well as a fledgling vidder and archivist. I'm also an active participator of KiScon as well as their Discord server as of July 2024.

I'm 22 years old, genderfluid/nonbinary, and a certified lover of women and enbies. My preferred pronouns are they/them/theirs.

About my name: I chose this moniker to identify myself because I wanted a unique, debonair, gender-neutral name that had the same vibes as Yves Saint Laurent or Christian Dior (not that I shop those brands but it's to give you a good picture of what I was trying to go for).

The meanings of each name are as follows:

Mazarine: Deep blue color. Feminine and French origin. The hex code for the mazarine color is 273c76.

Alcine: Strong-willed. Gender-neutral and Greek origin. (I found it when trying to look for 'witchy' names.)

Severen: Stern, severe, austere. Masculine and Latin origin.

Cress: From atop of the hill. Gender-neutral and French origin.

I like to think that when the names are put together, it means: "The stern witch from atop the deep blue hill."

How Mazarine Got Into Star Trek:

I was first introduced to Star Trek like many other people have been: their relative putting on a few episodes of The Original Series or The Next Generation on TV during childhood and watching in awe as the characters solved problems in a futuristic time on a weird and wonky planet and learning a lot about themselves along the way.

I didn't truly pursue an interest in Star Trek until 2020, however. But months before I started watching the series, I stumbled upon an interesting fanvid... that's right: "Closer". Because I had no clue what exactly it all meant ("What if they never returned to Vulcan in time?" and all the spicy clips of two men going at it), I was very confused, but fascinated! I was already quite interested in mlm and yaoi content and had harbored such interests for years before encountering that video. I didn't know at all that Kirk and Spock were shipped, let alone of how much of a legacy and impact it had left.

It wasn't until the night of September 1, 2020 (I theorize that's the exact date), that I started watching TOS. I'm someone who prefers to watch in release order because I believe that's the best way to understand a franchise. This was back when Netflix carried all of the Star Trek shows and movies. It was in the midst of the pandemic and I was starting college. I had plenty of time on my hands apart from online schooling and freelance work, so why not start watching shows and movies I had been meaning to try? I decided to start with Star Trek. I was in my living room and I found The Original Series, and selected the very first episode: "The Cage". I found it cerebral, but interesting; I kept watching despite how cheesy the 60s production value was.

Never in my life had I seen a single show from the 60s at that time, except for The Twilight Zone. The production style was completely new to me: it was colorful, the sounds were softer than today's TV shows, and it had so much more dialogue. It was engaging even for my bad attention span. The writing of the characters was so intricate and life-like, it was no wonder the show caused such a mania and cult following.

I mostly used it as background noise whenever I did work, chores, or creating art. I was still able to pick up what was going on thanks to the frequency of the show's dialogue. In time, Spock and his suave ways began to grow on me. I noticed the way Kirk and Spock interacted with each other and began taking a liking to their friendship. Eventually, I began shipping them a little bit.

One night, I was doing some scrapbooking and I had Star Trek on. Dr. McCoy was voicing his concerns about Spock to Captain Kirk and Nurse Chapel was running out of Spock's room while he was yelling at her. The Vulcan stormed out, and his face looked so angry. I snapped my head up from my journal and my eyes were instantly glued to the screen. Now this, I HAD to watch.

My art abandoned, I watched with great interest as Spock reluctantly explained to his commanding officer that he needed to take an early leave because of a fatal condition that came every seven years and could only be satiated via coitus. I gazed with anticipation as T'Pau approached, as T'Pring declared Kal-if-fee, and when Kirk was then made to battle his first officer and best friend to the death. I leered at the screen as they fought, their theatrical movements and bodies rolling in the sand putting me in a trance. Kirk's shirt tears in a place I had no idea I needed to see. I watched in horror as Spock eventually, and inevitably, delivered the final fatal blow.

"Well, what the fuck are they gonna do now? Kirk is dead!" I thought to myself.

T'Pau bade him Live Long and Prosper. Spock forlornly responded, "I shall do neither."

My heart palpitated with an indescribable feeling upon hearing that. In sickbay, Spock was about to relinquish his authority, then I smiled like an idiot as Kirk came up right behind him.

"Don't you think you better check with me first?"

"Captain... Jim!"

And thus, a trekkie is born.

I literally GASPED out loud, hands covering my mouth, eyes going wide as saucers. He smiled. He fucking smiled. And a real smile this time -- not one caused by drugs or one of those slight smiles of amusement! A real, motherfucking smile! Oh, it was beautiful. Thank you so much, Nimoy!

The episode concluded with McCoy's sarcastic remark, and I'm left sitting in my chair giggling like crazy. Spock became my favorite character that night; and Nimoy, my most favorite actor of all time.

A moment later, it hit me like a truck: the "Closer" video! My eyes went wide as I suddenly remembered the video and then I pieced the puzzle together.

"I ship it." I whispered happily to myself.

Then, came the falling down the rabbit hole: the 3 AM fanfiction readings, the hours of perusing Tumblr blogs, hunting down rare Star Trek paraphernalia, cosplaying, discovering KiScon, and eventually joining the KiScon Discord server and making a lot of wonderful friends there, on Twitter, and Tumblr. Now I'm here, writing this About Me page to pin at the top so you can groan at how long this is. Thanks for putting up with me.

The show gave me a sense of optimism during the heavy turmoil of 2020 as it did for those in the 60s. Like many others, it inspired me to get into STEM, so I changed my course of study years after starting college and began teaching myself statistics, programming, and medicine.

I love being a Trekkie. I love that the fandom still persists to this day despite it dwindling, but I thank the internet for keeping it alive and well and warmly welcoming new people with open arms. I enjoyed watching my brother get into Star Trek, and now we can't stop quoting the original films to each other. The impact it has even to this day is timeless and unreplicable. It's art in itself. Gene Roddenberry claimed he was no guru, but it doesn't take anything less than a genius to create what he did.

Alright, after running this blog for over a year I've decided to make an actual pinned post—complete with a guide to my tagging system.

First off, who am I?

I am the sole moderator of dinosquad-central, obviously. You may call me Dino Mod, and I use any pronouns, including neopronouns that do not begin with x or z.

My Favorite characters are Caruso and Buzz. I don't actually know that much about dinosaurs in general; I just think they're neat. I'm the event coordinator on the Dino Squad discord server. And I love getting asks! (Although sometimes it takes me a day or two to answer them)

I tag posts with #dino mod to indicate that they are either original posts from me, or things I've reblogged wherein I added something to the body of the post, rather than just the tags. So if you want to browse my thoughts on the show, that's the tag to do it.

Now that you know who I am, what's Dino Squad and where can you watch it?

Dino Squad is a 2007 cartoon about five teenagers who can turn into dinosaurs, and you can watch it for free on YouTube. The first episode is called "The Beginning", but the series is episodic, so the order you watch doesn't really matter after that. If you want to watch in in order, there's an episode list on IMDB.

Is there anything else you should know?

Yeah, a couple of things, actually. But this is already getting long, so I'll continue under the readmore.

Firstly, I need to give credit where credit is due, and make sure y'all know that the person who made the banner I use for this blog, which is also the quintessential "there's like five of us" dinosquad fandom meme, is @scoutbot. Everyone say "thank you, scoutbot!"

My profile pic, on the other hand, is lifted from official Dino Squad promotional material, but if anyone wants to draw me a new one, I'd be willing to trade you a fic for it—DM me if interested.

Secondly, there's one type of tag I don’t list in the tag guide, and that's the type I use to fawn all over everybody's Dino Squad posts. In such a small fandom, every time someone makes something new for it, they do so knowing it won't get much engagement, so I want to make sure they get at least one person who with enthusiastically give a kind, thoughtful, personalized comment on their post. Creating for a small fandom can feel thankless, but I want to mitigate that as much as possible by saying thank you thank you thank you for hanging out with us and participating in our fandom.

I'll mention it a few times in this post, but as long as you tag a post with #dino squad (as one word or two) I am basically guaranteed to see it, and I'll reblog almost anything in this fandom. So if you want more of the stuff you like, I strongly encourage you to create it! I love to see new takes and new faces in this fandom, and I will always lift you up.

Posts that are not about the show, usually either dinosaur/paleontology related posts, or occasionally technical information about this blog itself, are tagged with #not dinosquad. For cool dino fun facts and art, this is the tag to explore.

Whenever a character is mentioned or very strongly implied in a post, I tag it with their full name, similar to AO3's character tags. You can follow any of these links to read every post featuring that character.

Is this a main blog? This is a side blog, my main is @amelias-hart.

Can I draw fanworks of your characters? Yes, absolutely, you are more than welcome to make works based on mine, please tag me in them!

What kinds of LoZ fics to you write? All of my fics are fully original legend and long form stories. My average chapter length is 3k and the shortest of my fics (not in a series) is currently drafting to be like 100 chapters.

How adult/mature are they? It ranges, but typically it's pretty tame. I don't really handle gore and explicit scenes, and I'm not a fan of dark fantasy generally as a writer. If fics are rated adult/mature, it's typically because the main characters are largely adults.

Is there romance? We're on that Zelink train, absolutely! There are no explicit scenes, again, so the range here is fluff (GoS, RA) to some more mature flirting with some innuendo being about the most serious content (DAD). Maybe a more intense kissing scene once the slow burn gets through to that or a fade to black (MoaH).

How do you write so much? Autism, baby. Got that clinical hyperfocus going.

Do I need to read your fics in a certain order? No, all of them are stand alone but they do share a linked timeline in the following: GoS -> MoaH -> RA -> CoL -> DAD (And honestly it's really just GoS and MoaH with any "serious" timeline lore connections)

What's the Convergence? To the previous point, it's referring to GoS any time it comes up. Really only a thing in MoaH and MoaH does try to explain it within the text.

I am primarily focused on creating my webcomic series “Hybrid Complex: The Crazy World of Us” or just “Hybrid Complex” for short.

It’s a four part, dark fantasy mystery adventure comic series staring the Woress Brothers: Ant and Alex Woress and focuses on their strange encounters throughout their world’s West’s End

Oh my word there’s still an LL fandom on here????!!!! I’m rereading the books after a couple years, and was a bit saddened to find that most of the fandom fell away after the series had ended (bc I actually only read the books for the first time when the entire series had been published for years), but you post regularly and reblog regularly, so yay, it seems that people are still here!!! After years of loving these books and rereading them I’d love to finally join the fandom— any blogs you’d recommend I follow, ppl who are still into LL and active at least every couple months? (I’d say ‘acgive regularly’ if I was a normal-ish person, but I’m rarely online, so I don’t mind people who post sporadically too— in fact I almost prefer that, you get me?). Anyways ahhh tldr I’m so glad other people are still obsessing over these aliens lol, like super happy :D

Hey hey, welcome to the fandom!! Yeah we're still here, it kinda gets a bit quiet now and again with all of us being busy, but the fandom is still around and kicking!

Most LL fans as far as I'm aware post about the series on their main blogs that have frequent activity, so if you don't mind following people that post any kind for a while but have something LL related now and again, this would be your option. If you wanna chat them up about the series then I would say @kip-loric @biddybaboop @simpforsix are very active and occasionally share LL art or incorrect quotes or memes!

If you are looking for LL blogs, I would say @5s-missing-eye and @apocalx post on occasion, but they're super passionate about the characters and have tons of interesting aus and headcanons and book thoughts to read through!

Kip currently has a Gem AU with the Garde that you can ask them about if you happen to know about Steven Universe, and both them and apocalx have LL OCs who are Human Garde with some detailed backstories and personalities!

I usually just follow the lorien legacies tag and find stuff from there, and once in a blue moon you get a new person come out and post some art or incorrect quotes or fanfic ideas for a while! The tag updates sporadically as well, but sometimes in the year it gets pretty frequent (like now for example since it's break for some of us in school).

Constructive criticism is always welcome when I ask for it (i.e., post OOC asking for it or reblog a concrit meme).  No one under 21 years old. I’m 25+ so anything younger feels weird to me. And definitely no minors.

No force shipping or arm twisting. I can compromise to a certain point but if I feel I’m being strong armed I won’t put up with it.

Mun ≠ muse. Kaveh can be stubborn but out of character I can listen and bend things a bit as long as it makes sense to the character.

No genderbends or cisswaps. I don’t trust the fandom in handling serious, sensitive topics like this. And it triggers me as a trans man.

I can do crossovers as long as I’m familiar with the series or games your muse is from.

I tag everything accordingly but don’t hesitate to ask for something in particular. I usually tag it as “trigger word mention”

You’re allowed to reblog memes or resources from me, just don’t spam reblog all at once from me. I don’t practice reblog karma but you can.

I can do darker themes to an extent and smut but it’ll be on discord and only for mutuals.

If you don’t have both an About and a Rules page I will not follow. I need both to gauge you before we can roleplay. No exceptions.

Regarding who I follow, I’m a mutual only blog. I regularly purge my following/follower list. I do this as I feel people in the community only make accounts to get quick attention only to then leave those accounts for a shiny new character. You may do so but I prefer partners that stick around and stay put. Being slow isn’t the issue, flaking on roleplays is. Also if I abruptly softblock you, don’t take it to heart. I won’t say try again but perhaps in the future our roleplay styles will align. If it doesn’t, please don’t make it a spectacle.

I don’t owe explanations for my abrupt removal. Especially when it feels like I’m putting all the effort in communicating with you and you only respond when no one else gives attention. I’ve dealt with enough attention seekers, I don’t need more.

Unfortunately not double friendly due to past experiences. I am willing to follow multi-muse accounts that have the same muse as me but not single muse accounts. I’d also prefer if multi-muse accounts don’t roleplay with me with the same muse I’m roleplaying as (in this case as Kaveh).

Hi everyone! My name is SASHA ( pronouns they / them / theirs ) and I am 28 years old. Welcome to my new baby from an animanga I grew up being quite obsessed with. Gunwoo is an original character inspired by the movie/series Big Hero Six, as well as Air Gear and SK8 the Infinity. He's kind of a middle ground between all three, and can easily be cross-fandom. He's someone I'm honestly super duper excited to write for, and cannot wait for everyone to meet him! But first things first, let's get on to a few guidelines and the like.

This blog is going to be not safe for work. Though there might not necessarily be heavy gore, there might be suggestive content but it's unlikely. If can find all of the suggestive content under THIS TAG HERE if you want to blacklist it. If this is something that makes you uncomfortable you're more than welcome to softblock/hardblock me as well. There will be no love lost about it - you need to make yourself comfortable first and foremost.

A lot of this page is going to function on a permanent state of med/low activity. Gunwoo isn't a priority page for me, even if I do adore him very much. I'll do my best to be here as often as I can but please just understand this. A lot of my replies will probably end up being put in a queue.

All of the graphics done are mine as well as my (terrible terrible) carrd. I do not like using carrd, but I had an old one lying around I decided to semi-revamp for Gunwoo's use. I really did do my best but it's kinda glitchy oop. All the PSD's you see, from the colorings to the icon, are all done by myself. I do not own the original images, those all belong to Jeon Jungkook and Air Gear.

I do have a Discord for plotting purposes and, as long as we are mutuals, you are more than welcome to ask for it and I will gladly give it out! I'm also very promo/ask meme focused and will most likely not do starter calls and/or open starters. It's just not my style, especially considering the fact that this page will not have a huge amount of activity.

BEST EXPERIENCE: To me, meeting new people (and anons) and discovering the particular dynamics between their character and mine. I absolutely love talking character dynamics and character development a ton! I also enjoy helping workshop muses and figure out their defining traits and characteristics.

ROLEPLAY PET PEEVES / DEALBREAKERS:

- Lack of Communication. As someone with autism, it's important that we have a good communication basis! Especially if you have a concept or a plan you'd like to experiment with. Do you need something? Please, come and talk with me!

- Romanticizing/Glorifying Dark Themes. As someone who writes for certain dark themes and draws from their own real-life experiences, there's nothing wrong with having writings and discussions around these topics (One of the most well-loved pieces from me explores various dark topics.) but I refuse to glorify and romanticize them. Especially when it comes to topics like abuse, harassment, or assault. And if I catch you romanticizing these themes, that is a hard block. And please don't try to justify or defend it, that's disgusting.

MUSE PREFERENCES: I'm down for any and every kind of dynamic... but my favorite muse preferences are the hot and cold muses who are opposing in every way, they're so different from one another. I'm also a big fan of different kinds of romantic and platonic relationships! They can be the most normal couple or the very essence of toxic yaoi/yuri, but as long as there's chemistry and chances for their relationship to develop and grow... I'm in! Love a good enemies-to-lovers dynamic...

PLOT VS MEMES: BOTHHHHH. Good god, I love shitposts and memes a ton. I love being able to have a good laugh, and some of the best shitposts come from plot-based interactions. It makes for a good mix of serious writing and lighthearted fun... and sometimes meme-ing on people somehow becomes canon lore. As long as we're having fun, who cares, right?

LONG OR SHORT REPLIES: Oh... hmm. Honestly? I don't mind either. I'm someone who loves a good amount of detail and interest in my stories and my roleplays, but I also understand that fatigue and burnout hit really easily so... anything works! I typically have a more medium length to my responses but... whatever works for you works for me!

BEST TIME TO WRITE: fuck if I know man /j But uh, I think the best time to write, especially a story, is when inspiration hits! Even if it's in small bursts, something is better than nothing, right?
