DON’T FILE THOSE DIVORCE PAPERS. but i thought emma was boring i desperately need ur full take geek out plz tell me what I don’t see
i would NEVER divorce you pookie??
(us actually)
everyone gets film freaky in their own way!!! its ok!!!
two film essay posts in less than 24 hrs by ro, someone needs to sedate me or something
( sort of spoilers for emma (2020) under the cut , but nothing explicit , really )
!!! disclaimer i think to really fw regency-ish movies, kind of inherently calls for being into things like their original source material. and trust!! i know its not for everyone!!!
personally, i'm actually a big fan of reading those old and classical kind of books. as in, i have a full, clothbound, BOX SET, of jane austen's novels (emma being one of them). my literature teacher recommended me to read pride and prejudice ONCE and i've been hooked ever since.
yknow people joke that back then that it was all "oh my god you can't show your ankles!!!" and yeah, that's pretty much what it's like when you get down to reading novels from that time 😭 but that's what makes it so entertaining for me! the bridgerton series (which i also really like by association) is an easy example of this. i once saw someone say bridgerton plays out like a kdrama and YES!! that's the level of yearning and pining and slow burn i feed off of
upfront, i liked the movie–even from when its first trailer came out–because its aesthetics visually were just so nice. like yes!!! pastels!! pretty flowers!!! hats with feathers!! tea parties!!! big poofy dresses!!! (and anya taylor joy)
but it was when i watched it for a second time, i found a lot of why i like this specific adaptation of emma is because i think it really got across the vibe of jane austen's writing–especially the humor.
ok now stay with me: i'm not saying you have to read the whole original novel to get it, bc basically i would summarize the reason why the humor is so dry (when usually you would think this rich and old-fashioned vibe of a story should be much more over-the-top and dramatic) is because jane austen was always trying to make fun of all the social constructs of her time. especially for women! (heavy on how her works were ones of satire!)
like it all plays out so bare-bones that you just can't ignore how ridiculous everything sounds, which is what austen felt about all the rules and expectations emma and the other characters were trying to uphold the whole story. i also find that kind of humor from the movie very charming in a simple way, too.
the whole vibe of watching the movie and its characters is very much unserious, and it's a personal favorite in that watching it and listening to the soundtrack makes me feel ok to wallow in my emotions like the characters do. it's very cathardic in that way to me. but yeah by no means is it very action-packed or even conventionally "dramatic", so i get how it can wind up boring.
the character development of emma is always so interesting to me though. it's subtle, especially on the first watch, but it always warms my heart when she goes from thinking she's got everything figured out, to seeing the value of true friendship in harriet and even mrs. bates (MY FAV CHARACTER I CANNOT LIE SHE'S SO FUNNY), and that making her more open to questioning her and her life more, including not being as perfect as she once thought she was.
and that's really why we get that payoff with her and knightley, because he's known her all this time but when she finally recognizes her imperfections and embraces them, that newly found self-awareness us what pushes him over the edge in love. then we get that BEAUTIFUL confession scene under the tree. 🤭🌳
it very much fits the genre of a "romantic" movie, in that it romanticizes everything. but not to the point where it lets you forget what everyone's wants were, and that there were genuine struggles grappling with all those societal rules at the same time.
bc at the end of the day those rules were efforts meant to promote values that could hopefully lead a life of morality, responsibility/duty, and respect to others and yourself (arguably there are rules we face today that try to promote the same things, but they just look much different than rules about showing your ankles lol). i think in emma it's interesting to see just how each character tries to navigate those rules to get what they want out of life from them, and i think it's just a very beautifully-made film overall as well.
#🍃 𝗿𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴𝔂#i’m embarrassed to admit how many times i’ve watched this movie#definitely in the double digits thats for sure#emma 2020#jane austen

Rapunzel's Flower Dev Log: Part 41 Blast From the Past
New Post has been published on https://kimaprince.com/2023/01/27/rapunzels-flower-dev-log-part-41-blast-from-the-past/
Rapunzel's Flower Dev Log: Part 41 Blast From the Past
DISCLAIMER: I found these unreleased Dev Log notes in my previous ‘2020 Dev Log’ file in my Google Docs, and as much of it is ridiculously outdated, it’s still a snapshot of the development of RF. I also think it’s missing some development between this log and my next. I have a few notes at the bottom about what I believe is missing. Also, it was apparently written before I dropped development of Reel Dream! That’s, that’s old. I mean, this is also around the begining of 2020 quarantine >3> I’d like to forget that actually.
For this year’s (2023) first Dev Log, go here. (I’ll add the link when it’s posted)
PLAYING AROUND
Feb 17, 2020
As I’m planning on putting dev logs on hiatus I’ve actually been playing around with RF today, not really doing much but I played with a Mode 7 plugin just to see what it would do:
It looks like a lot of fun when playing with it, but it has too much that would need to be done to make it work right, and is out of the scope of this project.
I got this idea however, from a game that I recently got addicted to over the weekend:
Cat Quest Developed by: The Gentlebros Pte. Ltd.
Like that game legit had me addicted and I think I beat the main story line in two days. Which isn’t much time considering the mommy life. I’m still playing the after game and clearing dungeons.
So other than the map perspective used in the game, Cat Quest (GO PLAY IT. I got it on the Switch! Okay, yes I realize this game is a few years old. It takes me a bit to get around lol) also got me thinking about dungeons and dungeon crawling. Their dungeons are single level (this game is very casual play-like) and they aren’t too expansive…unless it’s supposed to be…and they have a lot of invisible paths.
So that got me thinking for RF that I should start planning the dungeon floors to be a lot smaller than what I had imagined in my head. This will help with mapping time, and for players to clear floors faster to feel like they are progressing.
I’m going to combine that with the recurring chests idea I had, and I may include different chest types, like a locked type players can go back for once they get a key further in the game that will have rarer, but optional, items; which is another idea I got from Cat Quest.
SETTING UP THE SCRIVENER FILE WITH NPC PROFILES
Something I honestly should have put together long before is profiles for each of the characters in RF. However, I just got to doing it and thankfully I had been working on a similar system for Reel Dream and already had things I could copy/paste to make the templates.
I’m honestly questioning the 10 stars friendship system. I’m thinking of breaking it down to be stars. Maybe, maybe not. I want to make shorter games and figuring out things for 10 stars? Of course, I think I was only planning to have an actual friendship event every few stars, and I guess that means that if I have characters I want it to be harder to befriend, I could just make them have certain events happen at higher star levels, though that would also limit how many events I could have compared to others.
Okay, that was a long run on sentence but that’s my thoughts.
A MESS OF A MOUNTAIN
(Feb 19, 2020)
So I worked a good bit on Reel Dream’s plot today, scripting out the first part of the game so I felt I needed a break to do something more relaxing. So I went to RF to do some mapping of the mountain area:
Basically, from sample maps from the FSM asset pack, I glued together a few maps I liked and have been working away at making them fit, as well as making them how I imagined. Right now it’s still a mess but it’s coming together. That’s Avy’s Tower asset right there, that I plan to use for the main tower in this game. I may do a bit more searching, but this moss covered look fits with what I want for the game.
WHY DO KIDS GET US SICK
So between a rough emotional/mental week followed by a week of sick family, not much got done and now it is March 2nd. Reel Dream takes priority but I just want to note that I continued on that mountain and this is where it left off:
Still have a lot of work to do on it but it’s shaping up to be its own thing now, and not just a copy/paste from sample maps.
MARCH 5th 2020
Just did some mapping.
OH QUARANTINE OH QUARANTINE
June 15 2020
So how’s quarantine going, ya’ll?
Yeah, so between everything I normally deal with…RF has been on the bottom of the to-do list. I have been working on Reel Dream a bit lately and I continuously am trying to make my office area more productful and more childproof, which is hard now that my youngest is a full fledged toddler at age two.
What’s been on my mind lately for RF is the weapons crafting system and how I should simplify it in ways I’ve enjoyed in other games I’ve recently played such as Moonlighter. However, the idea of how it was all to work out was almost completely fledged out and ready to input into the engine so I kinda want to just go with my original idea and see how broken of a system it is. It may work out to be a fun quirk of the game!
I quit my Patreon before the corona lockdown happened, when I didn’t even know it was going to happen, and thankfully I did as I wouldn’t be able to keep up the Patreon at this rate.
Without the patreon however, it has allowed me to put game dev on the back burner as I have needed to, without feeling like I was ripping off those who were giving to me.
-Some Time Later-
Okay so yeah, the internet is distracting and I’m fighting laziness and depression right now but…
Game dev wise I think I may have tossed some dev notes in an office purge I did the other week, though I still have a lot of digital notes too so maybe what I want is there…
BLUB
BLUUUUUB
BLUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUB
If any of ya’ll get that reference than….ya’ll are a parent.
Okay, so I had been working on the spreadsheet for figuring out the crafting system and I reduced the number of crafting materials I use in each setting:
I even renamed some stuff and decided on how some items were going to be used. Somehow, I just couldn’t reduce the med craft ingredients by much. Most things in that list made sense to me so I kept them.
Why this change? Well mostly I was inspired by Animal Crossing: New Horizions on how their main ingredients are just 3 types of wood, rock, clay and iron. Sure the game adds some special pieces too but those are what you are collecting on a daily basis.
Rapunzel’s Flower isn’t meant to be an overly large game, so I really shoudn’t have a boat ton of items and complicated crafting. I still want to make my additive ingredient method of crafting instead of something more linear (like Moonlighter) because I think how the additive properties will act in game will be painfully hilarious as I try and balance it all.
Yeah, I pretty much said I want to have a dev crisis trying to balance this game.
However, having done that I’ve gotten thinking about something else I had wanted to do originally in the game: On screen encounters. Originally I said I couldn’t do it because I don’t have sprites for the majority of Aekashics battlers I will be using, but thinking about it, the spawn monster doesnt have to look exactly as the monsters in the troop. I mean, hey, you don’t even see a troop you see one monster and SURPRISE it’s a troop…
So I DO have directional sprites for cute little elemental slimes for Aekashics that fit with the elements in my game. I’m thinking I could go back to the on screen encounters and use these elemental hinting slimes in the different areas to create on screen encounters. I even have plugins to make on screen encounters interactive.
More work? Potentially, well, yeah, but it will be in line with the original vision of the game.
THE NEXT DAY
Le gasp! I’m here typing the next day! So, last night I did a lot of work planning the crafting system and this is only part of my spreadsheet for that:
So I guess the next stage is…I don’t know…guess I have to make sure each item at least has an icon and then start putting these base recipes into the plugin.
As much as I love the crafting plugin I have, I also hate putting recipes in it. That’s actually why I have this spreadsheet is so that I can reference the item numbers and ingredients for input into the plugin. The plugin asks for item database numbers so I can’t just go back and forth trying to get and remember numbers. Thus, this spreadsheet.
Google Sheets really has become a go-to tool for me. I’ve even created scheduling, chore and grocery spreadsheets for daily life!…only the grocery one has gotten real use. Haha…that’s my fault. I keep trying to find a good planner system for myself because it’s easy for me to get off track and lazy.
Anywho, into the engine to go work on those recipes!
RECIPE WOES
Okay, so the recipes can only have one craft item category used and you can’t have two in one recipe so I’m going to have to plug in a LOT of recipe variations. Lots…man I’m glad I toned down how many weapons and junk were in the game.
So Okay, to tone that down why don’t we just require the Augment to be a chip that you have to craft? Yeah, yeah I think that makes sense. Then the recipe only calls for a Chip and that Chip, using the Additive Traits of the crafting system will add it’s traits to the weapon you are crafting. BINGO! I think that will save me some recipe making…I hope.
Wait, nope. That runs into the same exact issue. Unless….we use the Chip to create a Drive which creates a Core and all adds onto each other!
2023 Comments: Um, I’m not sure what all was going on at this point and I feel like there were a lot of decisions and developments I never ended up documenting. I’m not even sure if I recorded the decision to go with Randomly Generated Maps to create dungeons, or that I went back to a simpler crafting system with Yanfly’s Item Synthesis and have pretty much dropped augmenting items for weapon enhancement mechanic. Going to stick to simpler item and weapon creation. Sorry I didn’t document that, so there’s a bit of a gap between 2020 and 2023 that’s more than just time.
Anywho, from now on Dev Logs will be written for this year’s development, and I’ll try to keep in mind to give ya’ll a refresher when I talk about certain mechanics and developments.
Thanks for reading and God bless, Kima Prince

2021-02-27 Some things I want to say
WARNING LONG POST
Context first, translation of his post above will follow:
Disclaimer: I have no interest in other artists other than Xiao Zhan, and I am merely explaining the situation of the fandom in China that led us to the fiasco in March 2020. I do not care for bjyx, I ship WangXian but I do not ship real people as a basic principle.
My opinion as an international fan of Xiao Zhan and as an AO3 user (yes, I am not Chinese nor do I live in China, I just happen to be able to read Chinese) is that C-entertainment industry is TOXIC and celebrities are not free targets for you to cyberbully. They are human just like you and me.
Everyone needs to learn a bit more about compassion.
I am sure all of you read about the cyberbullying Xiao Zhan went through last year. There were multiple factors that started all of this, most of which XZ doesn’t talk about in this letter because of how sensitive the topic is in China. I’ve never explained entirely what happened because I personally thought that this is not something overseas fans should worry too much about. Especially since most of you don’t have a wb or db account, there’s nothing you can do about it anyway. But since Xiao Zhan himself decided to post a letter to respond to this subject, I’ll put in my 2 cents just that so everyone is on the same page.
Basically, after The Untamed aired in China, the show fandom split into 3 groups. XZ fans, WYB fans, and CP fans (or bjyx, whatever you wish to call it, those who love shipping these two real people together - not just the characters in the drama). Of course there are still people who would watch the show without becoming a fan of the actors.
At the beginning, most people thought they were good friends with each other, with all the short BTS clips from The Untamed. However, fans slowly discovered that it wasn’t the case. Some unofficial BTS clips emerged where WYB said XZ was shooting multiple dramas at the same time = 轧戏 (which is very frowned upon and a disrespectful thing to say to an actor), whereas in reality, XZ only asked for a couple of days days off during the shooting for The Untamed because his scenes in Joy of Life had to be redone and he was bound by contract. On the contrary, WYB had to ask for most weekends off because he was participating in Produce 101 at the time. Other clips shows them fighting about somethings WYB said about WWX, which made XZ mad. So this broke a lot of CP fans’ image of their relationship, and they either stopped shipping/became XZ or WYB fans only. This angered WYB’s fans, of course, which made them blame XZ for the entire fiasco.
Other incidents continued to happen after the show which increased the friction between these 3 fan groups. XZ fans and WYB fans would fight about various voting charts, and fight with CP fans because they don’t like seeing the two actors together. In the meantime, CP fans continuously feminize and weaken XZ in order to ship the 2 actors together (it’s rather an unhealthy trend in China, I’ve been in multiple other western fandoms before - not real person shipping - but we rarely glorify weakening/feminizing the bottom of a ship, because of the underlying prejudice against real homosexuals, who are not synonymous to transgenders).
Some incidents added oil to the fire afterwards. It’ll take me too long to explain everything, so I’ll just put here the main ones to explain why there’s so much bad blood between these 3 groups of fans.
On XZ’s birthday, some CP fans found XZ’s parents’ apartment building and yelled BJYX is real. This angered a lot of XZ fans, because of how disrespectful it was towards the old couple and the clear breach of privacy. WYB fans and some CP fans were also angry that XZ didn’t reply immediately to the birthday wish on wb that WYB sent at midnight (??? XZ was busy shooting a drama, can you blame him for not being on wb at midnight? Give the guy a break.)
In November 2019, WYB filed a lawsuit against some of XZ’s fans (instead against of his own haters!) for dissing him (although I’ve never seen any proof, and a few of those fans remain active on wb now, one of whom has even defended WYB's portrayal of LWJ before...). This angered a lot of XZ fans and CP fans who didn’t understand how he could have done this to his “friend”, and further proved that their relationship wasn’t that fantastic to begin with. WYB fans felt justified in hating XZ and all XZ fans as a result, and openly bullied XZ fans on the grounds of the Nanking CQL Concert.
In January, The Untamed was named to Beijing Journal Drama award. CP fans and WYB fans were unhappy that XZ was named to the Best Male Lead category and WYB was named to the Best Male 2nd Lead. They attacked the award committee wb by spam commenting all their wb posts and the entire drama was pulled from the nomination afterward. XZ fans were especially angry that they started all this only for the nomination to be pulled out - because the only possibility was one Male Lead per drama, and anyone would agree that if chosen between WWX and LWJ, the character with the most scenes and importance in the story is WWX.
Yadda yadda yadda, fast forward to February 2020, it started with a fanfiction written by a CP fan that depicted XZ as a prostitute transgender woman and WYB as a highschool kid (UNDERAGE) = AKA very sensitive material in China. It was posted on AO3, but the author posted the link of said fic on wb and a lot of CP fans broadcasted it around, so much that XZ fans became aware of it. Due to how sensitive the material is and how badly it would taint XZ’s image for his future roles, some XZ fans started reporting the wb post that contained the link (NOT AO3) and the author’s wb page. This is common practice in fandom on wb, usually done to get the wb posts taken down. This caused panic in the CP fans crowd because they thought XZ fans were reporting AO3 and that they were gonna lose the website (which is impossible, because AO3′s servers are in Sweden and not subject to Chinese laws anyway).
Because of how sensitive AO3 was in China and how haters tried to pull in antigovernmental into their crowds, the subject quickly became too dangerous for XZ fans to get involved in. Official fan groups in China unanimously decided to ask all fans to stop participating in the online debate and stay within the fan group circle only.
Someone on AO3 made a commentary about this incident that you can find here. She dug up a lot of info on the companies feeding money to the trolls online, but as I am an overseas fan and cannot really verify her info, I will not comment on those statements.
Sometime in the middle of this fiasco, someone started spreading the notion that XZ fans hated fanfiction and were trying to report anything that goes against their image of their idol... And subsequently people who were not CP fans or XZ fans became aware of this problem when they couldn’t access AO3 suddenly because too much curious fans where trying to access it and they crashed the servers. However later on, people could access the website without any problems. I am not personally in China right now so I can’t verify these claims of the website being walled or not for real, but I know from various reliable sources that on March 1st it was only an overload of the server, and people could still access afterwards.
With this however, haters (which include previous CP fans, WYB fans, and other idol’s fans) attacked XZ for not telling his fans to stop reporting, for not saying anything. They attacked XZ’s endorsements and spammed hate speech on the products he was promoting. They would rate 1 star in all his dramas and songs on db, and then buy accounts to further rate 1 stars (yes that thing exists in China, everything can be bought in China, don’t ask me why.) The reason why I believe that all this wasn’t coincidental, is that barely the day after the fiasco started, someone posted on db the exact list of all his sponsorships, detailing exactly who to call to protest, what words to spam in the comment sections of various official brands’ wb accounts. This entire thing was too well planned to be just a normal fandom fight.
Whether it was other actors’ fans who organized this to cut down competition, we will probably never know for sure. The following year was laden with fake rumors, hate speech blasting from multiple directions. They attacked his personality, saying that his polite manners are just for show (when the reality is that he has always been a gentleman even when he wasn’t popular). They attacked XZ for faking donations to Wuhan, forcing him to show his donation certificate to prove himself. One of his friends couldn’t stand the cyberbullying anymore and revealed publicly that his grandfather recently passed away (the date on this drawing is 2020.03.03, he couldn’t post this last year).
His friend defending him from the cyberbullies, saying that he had plenty of reasons to stay silent. That his grandfather passed away recently and his family has been planning his funeral.
(Sources also said that his mother was hospitalized a few days afterwards. And that haters went to his mother’s hospital to harass her and her nurses)
Haters saying that XZ is using his grandfather’s death to excuse himself (??? is he not allowed to grieve like a normal person???)
Haters wishing that XZ becomes depressed from the cyberbullying and kills himself, wishing that he was dead, wishing that his fans were dead too. Photoshopping his picture into a funeral portrait to curse him
Haters admitting they are cyberbullying XZ, but rejoicing in the fact that they are so many so XZ can’t sue all of them. They have also reported his upcoming dramas for various reasons just so they cannot be aired.
The airplane incident I’ve already talked about here.
A picture antis made to diss on XZ fans: AO3 can be still accessed even if it’s walled, Lofter can be still access even if it’s taken down from the app store. Your gege’s picture are still accessible even if he died.
I’ve only posted here the tamest screenshots, there are far worst ones that I won’t be posting because the amount of vitriol give me nausea just looking at them.
In all this fiasco, antis gave him the tag of “idol who didn’t manage his fans well”. But Xiao Zhan never thought fans needed to be trained, he thought of them like normal people, and their love, something to be treasured and not used. But some people in China still blamed his fans for starting all this mess, and partly him and his studio for not being able to stop it.
Below is the translation for XZ’s letter, posted on the wb post above
Some Things I Want To Say
Today, I have something to say to everyone. I’ve thought of a lot of ways to do this, but in the end, I chose the simplest way to tell everyone about all my feelings and thoughts in the past year. These opinions, maybe they won’t be able to represent anything, nor won’t they be able to change anything, but I still wish to say this today.
On this day last year, the incident happened very quickly, as if a bomb exploded on my face - endless phone calls, never ending message notifications, everyone’s opinions and questions came in like a tsunami. I wanted to say something back then, but I didn’t know what exactly. I was apprehensive of making a statement, afraid that one wrong word, or one wrong sentence would be taken the wrong way and end up adding oil to the fire. This is why at that time, I chose not to say anything.
I never thought that the online fighting would grow bigger and bigger like an avalanche, getting larger crowds involved, and gradually leaving one person’s control. Even though afterwards I made repeated statements to make amends, it could not develop as I wished it to anymore.
This life filled with broken protests and tumultuous noise continued to this day. And I felt I was going through a very dark and never ending tunnel. Unrest, ruminations, turmoil... I have also asked myself what did I do wrong exactly, why did everything after that day became as if it were an uncontrollable vessel.
I spent a lot of time to digest, and then spent a lot of time to understand, understand everyone’s words and actions. Slowly, I started to understand what everyone was criticizing about me personally. The moment that I chose not to say anything, I lost that window of opportunity to reason with everyone. So I was wrong, from the very beginning.
At that time, I wasn’t yet able to clearly understand the entire incident, to understand everyone’s feelings, nor did I know what kind of responsibility I had to carry as a public figure. Thus, I missed that opportunity to communicate with everyone, and wasn’t able to withstand the responsibility of letting these antagonizing feelings grow. Now, I can clearly recognize that throughout this year, this criticism that everyone had against me of “Idol Who Lost Its Voice”, was correct. During this year I reflected upon this repeatedly, as a public figure, I have to not only improve myself within the boundaries of my profession, but also have to carry the social responsibility that comes with my influence. To influence those who like me, who follow me, towards the right worldviews within my capacity. Even though my studio and I have already expressed some opinions through wb and interviews, but scars that this incident that brought such antagonistic emotions between different circles are still difficult to heal.
No matter how late, my own problem has to be corrected. I would like to express my first comment: Xiao Zhan, would like to apologize for “losing voice” towards those who have been affected by this incident. This is my first responsibility towards the public, face the problem and admit my faults.
Also, I would like to use this opportunity to speak with my fans. This is my second responsibility. In one of my interviews last year, I have said, I do not really agree with “managing” my fans (some celebs in China have hired people to manage fan groups in order for them to behave in certain ways for their purposes. Antis tried to spread the false rumor that XZ also had those people and that they directed their fans to start this mess), because everyone is an individual. No matter my studio nor myself, we do not have the authority to “manage” them like some would manage workers in a company. Afterwards, I reflected many times, maybe I cannot use the word “manage” to define my relationship with my fans, but I do have the responsibility to “correctly influence, and actively advocate”. So today, I would like to tell my fans, everyone has the right to like or hate something, and it should be respected and allowed within their own space. Of course this right should be reasonable, should not hurt anyone else, and remain within the boundaries of the correct values and norms. I hope my fans and friends can understand that no matter which profession, no matter what age, one’s own preferences or actions should not cross the line for one’s professional ethics or disrespect basic principles.
(Here he is referring to reports of teachers using his name in class or asking children to say his name to cheer for him. This is a problem that occurred also with other celebrities in China, and for which he has already expressed himself previously.)
No matter online or in real life, everyone should be responsible for their own words. I also hope that we are not represented tags like “xx’s fans”, that we do not set this as the basis of where we stand on a topic nor do we let this determine what’s right or wrong. Everyone have their own hobbies and interest, respect everyone’s choice and freedom of speech. No matter whether they like me or hate me is their own right. Passion, this should be a source of strength to everyone, I do not wish for it to consume or hurt anyone. Perhaps I cannot change this kind of environment, but at least for you and me, today is a new start point.
At last, I would like to talk a bit about myself. Ever since I came into this field, until today, I have always been defined by some tags. But the reason why I originally stepped into this circle was my passion for performance and music. And this is why, I will keep working on becoming a better actor and singer. The sudden criticism of “having lost voice” made me realize that, other than what I have always focused on professionally, I have to also be able to carry the responsibility of a public figure and an idol. I was born in a normal family in Chong Qing, and have lived a normal life, like many other people, for more than twenty years. Today I will also use this opportunity to apologize for the words I have said before as a normal person (I’ve already talked about it here), for the people I have inadvertently hurt. As I work hard on studying to become a better person, I will try to become a better “public figure”, so that these two Xiao Zhan can blend in together, for a better self.
This past year, no matter big or small, I have to be responsible for the incidents that happened because of me. I can demand this for myself, but I have no right to force it on other people, so I can only hope that those who really like me can really listen to me: please be a bit more reasonable for things outside of personal preferences. Live a healthy life, put more time and energy onto one’s real life, and less on the senseless fighting behind fake IDs and unreliable online world. Only to become a better self.
(Here he’s referring to an online fight that an anti called 晨小晨 started. I’ve already explained a bit here. #微博管理员回应晨小晨事件# )
Sorry for any grammar errors, this post was really long to make and I didn’t proofread. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to translate the entire thing for overseas fans since you don’t understand the entire context, and because I wanted my wb records collection tag to be complete, I felt I had to... and I got carried away trying to explain everything. Tried to summarize it as much as I could.
As a fan of Xiao Zhan and also an AO3 user, I would still like to apologize for how this bullshi*t ended up disrupting respectful and peaceful users of AO3. The Untamed tag did not contain hate fics before all of this happened, it is unfortunate that a place where there used to be only love, ended up being tainted by antis and haters.
To the anonymous person who asked me a few months ago if I supported bjyx, this is my answer: You have the right to like whatever you want within your own corner, as long as it doesn’t bother anyone else and isn’t against basic principles. I ship WangXian as characters from a novel, but I have never liked RPS as a principle.

No Returns, No Exchanges
Disclaimer: I have debated for quite a while whether or not I should post this blog. Social media is such a curated space for joy and happiness, it can feel oppressive at times. There is so much life-changing positivity, from engagements to new jobs; and don’t get me wrong, that happiness is great to see. But on the other hand, all of that positivity makes me feel like sharing any kind of negative information is attention-seeking and an immense overshare. So let’s ask ourselves why I feel that way. Why is happiness celebrated while the sad, sometimes harsh realities of life are thought to be oversharing? More specifically, why do we feel like life-changing news can only be shared when it doesn’t make other people uncomfortable? Our expressions of pain should not be regulated by the comfort levels of the people who surround us. There comes a time when not sharing something begins to feel like hiding something, and hiding something turns to shame. That is a feeling that I refuse to welcome into my life right now. So here we go.
It has been a while since I posted anything… a really long while. It has been rare, these past few years, that I have even felt I had anything much to say let alone write anything, mostly because my life has been fairly normal, fairly unextraordinary, and I am rather blessed to be saying that during such a difficult time for so many. The few moments where I have felt like I had something to say have been fleeting, and after a good 2am word vomit on paper, I have filed these musings under “not to be seen by the light of day” which is probably for the best.
Sometimes in the past I would find myself wishing I had something interesting going on in my life, something worthy of commentary… I don’t know, I was thinking like a cool hobby, an interesting skill, a kick-ass career, or a run in with Tom Hardy like I’d always dreamed of… something.
Well, to whoever is in charge, this is not what I meant, and I would like to request a refund.
Because as its final parting kick in the ass 2020 decided to gift me with breast cancer. This isn’t a bad punch line, it’s just the truth.Let me give you a second to process that one. I certainly needed a few.
The thing is, a little itty bitty 3-centimeter tumor- that’s not something I can give back, as much as I might want to. It’s not a too-large sweater you can return with a gift receipt, and it’s not a bad haircut you can complain about and get your money back (though it certainly will include one in a week or so!)
A lot of you already know this story and frankly it’s not one I can tell with much finesse or humor, so I will keep it brief. It was a dark and stormy 6pm when I found a lump in my breast in the shower back in November. My initial thought was “you’re a crazy lady and a hypochondriac, let’s give it a few weeks since this is probably nothing.” A few weeks, when my imaginary lump seemed to not actually be imaginary, I figured okay, it’s time to see my doctor, it’s probably nothing but we need to make sure. I was in fact so unconcerned about it that I didn’t even see my regular doctor. I figured I just needed a medical professional to feel me up and let me know what to do next. I didn’t even bother mentioning it to my parents. (For context of my laissez-faire, when I was 14 I found a lump in my breast that turned out, after little fanfare, to be a cyst which was unceremoniously drained on a cold metal table by a male doctor in a somewhat traumatizing but ultimately benign event. That’s a longer story for later).
Cue a physical exam, confirming I was not crazy and there was a lump, but it was probably nothing; an utltrasound, confirming the lump was a shape that they did not like, but it was probably nothing; and an ultrasound guided biopsy, in which the probably nothing was sampled. The week between Christmas and New Year’s was spent impatiently waiting for the news, increasingly feeling that my probably nothing was maybe, actually something.
On December 28 around lunch time I received a phone call in the middle of the work day from the radiologist, who while very nice, was someone I had only met once while she shot a needle in and out of my boob. She asked me how I was doing and then told me my test results were in. “I’m sorry to say it’s not good news,” she said.
And believe it or fucking not my immediate thought was “It’s not good news… it’s great news!” My brain supplied this as if on autopilot like some kind of 90s game show host, knowing fully well that I would not be so lucky because we are not living in a Brooklyn 99 episode. It’s weird where your brain goes under duress.
It was one of the most uncomfortable phone calls I have ever had, wherein I found myself trying to reassure a complete stranger that I was okay and I’m pretty sure I even said, “it is what it is.” I was told a breast surgeon and oncologist from my provider network would be in contact and the call ended. Ultimately, I was diagnosed with Stage 1B Triple Negative Invasive Ductal and Lobular Carcinoma. No returns, no exchanges.
I am two months into my diagnosis, and 1/8 of my way through chemotherapy, the first part of a three series treatment (to be followed by surgery and then likely radiation.) This Friday, after my second chemotherapy treatment, I will begin to lose my hair. Anyone who knows me at all knows that the hair loss will be a pill likely far harder for me to swallow than the chemo itself. And while the look may have worked for Demi Moore in GI Jane, I do not have her bone structure, nor her body. I anticipate I will look more like the yellow peanut M&M, which while obviously the best M&M of the bunch, I think we can all agree is not a cute look for me.
I do not say this to be melodramatic, I just say this because I am cynical and pragmatic by nature: I am not particularly surprised that I have cancer. And this is for several reasons, some of which probably deserve a longer blog later. To put it simply, I have been surrounded by cancer, both by choice and by cruel fate and happenstance, my entire life.
Cruel Fate and Happenstance: Having several relatives who have gone through cancer, and a mother with a BRCA 1 genetic mutation (which I had a 50% chance of inheriting, and in fact did) I always figured it would eventually happen to me. The odds this condition dealt me? “About 13% of women in the general population will develop breast cancer sometime during their lives. By contrast, 55%–72% of women who inherit a harmful BRCA1 variant… will develop breast cancer by 70–80 years of age.” That 55-72% is the kind of percentage you want winning the lottery, but the lottery this most certainly is not, and that much I understood. So, I always figured something like this would probably happen. Did I think I would be 28? No. But I figure that just makes me an overachiever.
Choice: I volunteered at a cancer support non-profit from the time I was 12 to the time I was 22, and I wrote my college senior thesis in anthropology on women with ovarian cancer, the cancer that killed my aunt Lizzy when I was 4 years old. I have likely read more books on cancer than your average newly diagnosed person, which I find to be both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, I know some of what’s coming. On the other hand, I know some of what’s coming. Of course I don’t think any of these things gave me cancer but you might say I have been training for this my whole life. I think this joke is far funnier than pretty much everyone I say it to except my immediate family, because the Tenney/Koss folk are very big on gallows humor, in which case this is hilarious. Comedy is our family coping mechanism, and I am guilty of occasionally forgetting not everyone is wired like that.
So where are we right now? Taking it day by day. Do I frequently find myself wallowing in self-pity these days? Sure. But all the same I feel truly lucky. This is a feeling I am trying to hold on to, because I think the other options might be truly unbearable. Why? Well, I found this tumor. I’m 28-years-old, which means I am hardly old enough for a regular mammogram and MRI. My last yearly physical was a TeleHealth appointment (hence no actual physical) and I will be honest, I never made a habit of regularly checking myself like I should have. But this tumor just presented itself casually during a shower. Breast cancer, when caught early, is highly treatable and curable, and I am fairly confident, knock on wood, that is where this particular nightmare is headed. The fact that it was caught early: pure luck.
Another reason I feel lucky is for the most part, I feel like I actually have the stability to handle the oncoming struggle. I have a large and wonderful support system, an incredible and supportive partner, a savings account with actual savings in it, and a job where I am cared about as a human. If this had happened to me three years ago, almost none of these things would be true. There will never be a good time to have cancer, but some times are apparently better than others. Of course, the ongoing pandemic means I can’t have people go with me to chemo, or my wig fitting, or my surgery consultations, and alone a lot of this seems much more daunting and difficult than it might otherwise have been, but I am trying to make a habit of counting my blessings, and despite this terrible thing I’ve been given, my blessings are many.
There isn’t a “right way” to have cancer, but I think there might be a “right way” for me. I am a private person and I find sharing some of these details difficult and more than a little uncomfortable, but I am also intimately familiar with the healing nature of writing and comedy, so I am going to give it a shot.
And now that I think of it… the peanut M&M is going to make a really great Halloween costume.

Title: Candy Cane Author: msgilliana AO3 link
Disclaimer: I don’t own the characters, they belong to CC (🙄), FOX, 1013, blah blah blah. Summary: Day 1: Candy Cane
Note: I thought I’d contribute to the Nursery Files, so the nest several posts from me are going to be my pregnant Scully ficlets from my Ficmas 2020 collab with Lainey/bisexualreina . I’ll post about 2-3 stories a day so as to not spam.
——————————
“We’re home!” Mulder announced as he took the key out of the lock, followed by a much softer but still loud “Mommy, we’re back!”
“How was it?” Scully asked, wiping her hands on a towel as Mulder went to give her a kiss, placing the plastic bags full of groceries on the counter.
“Ewww! Daddy has cooties, mommy!”
Both adults chuckled as Mulder swooped up their four-year-old daughter. He held her at the side of his chest so she was eye-level with her mother. Mulder leaned in, Emily giving Scully a kiss on the cheek.
“We got candy, mommy!” the little girl exclaimed.
Scully arched an eyebrow, but Mulder feigned innocence.
“Oh?” she asked, prompting her partner to speak.
“In my defense, they should not make candy canes that taste like Sweet Tarts!”
Skeptically, Scully slowly made her way to where Mulder had set down the grocery bags. Looking through both, she pulled out a pack of plain red and white peppermint candy canes, and another pack, this one with various colors of the sugary rods. The latter had two missing, which she assumed had been consumed by her partner and child on the way home from the store.
“I see someone got a little excited,” she teased, lightly tapping Emily’s nose with her finger.
The blonde giggled and held her hands out, signaling she wanted to be held by her mother.
“Not right now, Em. Mommy needs to not carry anything,” Mulder told her.
“Mulder, I’m fine.”
“I just want to make sure you’re okay.”
“And I am.” Scully took the child, supporting her with one hand and adjusting her with the other.
“When is brudder getting here?” Emily asked innocently as Mulder placed the groceries in the proper place. He left the candy canes out.
“Not for a few more weeks.” Scully pushed hair out of her daughter’s face and placed a kiss on her forehead. “Now, do you wanna help make brownies?”
“Yeah!” Emily started to wiggle, accidentally kicking Scully.
“Be careful, baby.”
“Sorry, mommy.”
Scully let her down and Emily dragged a stool next to where her mother was. Standing on top, she was tall enough to help.
“Okay, so take this,” Scully said, handing her a hard, white plastic spoon, “and stir. Like this.” She showed the little girl the proper stirring motion, and let her do that while she put up the vegetable oil and egg carton.
“Having fun?” Mulder asked, who was watching from the bar.
“Yeah!”
“I think she likes helping,” Scully noted.
“I can’t wait to eat them!” Emily exclaimed.
“Soon,” Scully chuckled.
——————————
After the chocolatey goodness had been stirred, poured, baked, and consumed, the small family sat in front of the television watching a cheesy holiday movie.
“You know basically all Hallmark movies are the same?” Mulder commented.
He was currently sitting on the edge of the couch with his partner in the middle. His arm was around her shoulder and her swollen bare feet laid across his lap.
“This isn’t a Hallmark movie.”
“Ah, potato, po-tah-to.”
“I like this movie!” Emily piped up from Scully’s side.
“Two against one.” The redhead smiled, giving Mulder a quick kiss before slowly getting up. She placed a hand in her belly for stability, and made sure she had her footing before moving to the kitchen.
Mulder followed her with his eyes questioningly until he found her motivation. She was taking one plain and two colored candy canes out of their respective packaging and held them in her hand as she came back to the living room. He continued to look as he helped her sit with an exasperated sigh.
“I could’ve gotten those, Scully.”
“It’s fine. I don’t mind,” she said, handing a colored candy cane to their daughter after opening the tightly twisted plastic and pulling it over the curve of the cane.
She handed another one to Mulder, keeping the plain one for herself.
“These are good, mommy!”
“Who knew candy canes were enough to keep this one satisfied?” Mulder asked jokingly.
“They are good,” Scully noted, tasting the red and white colored cane. “I remember eating these with Missy as we walked around the shopping center listening to the Christmas music.” She smiled sadly at the memory with her late sister. “These always make me feel nostalgic.”
“The power of peppermint in the shape of a stick.”
Scully eyed him curiously and jammed the sticky top close to his mouth. He chuckled as he play-spit and grabbed her feet, startling her.
“You’re silly, daddy!”
“Daddy is silly,” Scully agreed.
Mulder stuck his tongue out in jest, causing the small human much amusement. Placing Scully’s feet in his lap again, he slowly massaged the aching skin. She laid her head on his shoulder and Emily snuggled up next to her.
When the movie finished, he reached for the remote to turn the tv off. Looking at his side, he saw his partner fast asleep with their daughter curled up in what little lap space was left. The four-year-old hugged her mother’s belly with a visible drool spot on Scully’s shirt. Two candy cane wrappers were held under her hand atop her mother’s stomach so they didn’t fall off.
Mulder carefully got up from the couch and grabbed his phone to take a picture of the sweet moment. However, he’d forgotten to make sure the flash was off and woke Scully up when the brightness filled the room for a split second. Groggily, she opened her eyes and clutched the plastic wrappers.
“Sorry, Scully.”
“‘s no problem.” She rubbed Emily’s back and her belly before stretching her arms up.
“You think she’s out?” Mulder asked.
“I’m sure she’ll wake soon. The baby’s been pretty active today.”
“I don’t know how you’re able to sleep.”
“Well, it’s not the most restful, but I’m so exhausted these days I just… do, I guess.”
Mulder sat back down on the couch and placed a hand around her shoulders again. He placed a kiss on the corner of her mouth and she smiled sleepily. Kissing her again, deeper this time, he cupped her face and the corner of her lips turned upward.
“You better stop before you wake a certain someone,” she whispered.
Mulder ignored her and kissed her again.
Scully removed her lips from Mulder’s. “Hey, you still haven’t finished your candy cane,” she noticed. It was sitting on the end table.
“Eh, who cares.” He moved toward her, lips pursed, but Scully stopped him.
“We need to put her to bed first before we do anything else.”
Emily got woken up and she slowly walked down the hallway holding her father’s hand. After the little girl had been changed and put to bed, the adults resumed their previous romantic activities. The candy lay forgotten as quite gasps and smacks filled their bedroom.

Story and writing-related transparency update and my many shames...
The Question on Everyone’s Mind
“Hey you haven’t updated No Stars over Uptown in almost a year...”
Hmm, I hate it when you’re right. (This section has been rewritten ad-nauseam to curb back the bitchiness by the way)
So back in early/mid 2018, the idea was to divorce Uptown from a person who influenced it (and myself) heavily. She was my most important audience member, the closest friend I ever had, and unfortunately someone who used her power to bully, ostracize, and hurt others with my help. I cut contact when the hurt + some self-awareness finally reached me. Apologies were made and I feel like my work will never be done with it, but there was still Uptown.
Between censored comments, entirely recasting Axel’s save, different plot threads, and a load of disclaimers, there was nothing that would scrub her influence from the story. There was no way to cleanly drop everything because of how deep her influence went. It disgusted me to look back at it, and I had to private the blog because I feared what it endorsed, even if just in the past.
I pulled back from that sims writing community. I had its main thread on the Official Forums removed too (I guess if that was a mystery to anyone). It was a surrender that I never wanted to do, but I had it in my mind that if I was gone, then she wouldn’t be there either. Uptown became this cursed item, and as I quietly retired it, I noticed that she went quieter too. Not gone, but enough to make me sleep easier at night and even occasionally say hello to old friends.
And I hope deep in my heart that no one else is getting hurt in my place, but now this is gonna haunt me all day huh!
The two paths forward...
1) Complete Uptown rewrite that I’ve been threatening everyone with all year. While it won’t ever be clean because I can’t undo time, I do have a sound outline for a story that is much more true to my actual vision and how I’ve evolved, with a few necessary boundaries in place that are going to be there for all stories moving forward: no more casting calls and no more collaborative efforts. I am not going to open myself up to this happening again, even if the people have changed.
2) Same as above, but I continue the original Uptown as a favor to loyal readers alongside the rewrite. I would try to put the effort into it that I initially did, but with no promises on an update schedule and no advertising. I did ask myself “is there Patreon but without pledging money, just the private posts function” but it could operate as part of a private forum, a members-only part of a website, etc.
Also readers of the original would be beholden to a rule of “don’t spoil the rewrite for new readers, c’mon guys”. I mean, not really, but it is a good courtesy to extend to people.
Priority on this isn’t high but you at least will see what is!
I will probably make the blog public again either way due to the many broken links on my Tumblr but we’ll see. There are other things to deal with as I shall list!
Where Life’s Been Regardless
Been spending more time with my grandpa every weekend. Life’s pretty good and he’s warming up to my dogs.
Shiny New Webbed Site
Cucumber Fields Forever is a site I own now. We have a full domain, cucumberfieldsforever.com, a blog with one post, and the framework needed to host stories the way I want to and still through WordPress. The functionality of likes, comments, and following should still be the same but you know...I’ll take feedback too...
The main blog still has an undefined purpose though I do have drafts sitting around about:
The maybe/maybe not hoax band that was on the Metal Archives and the history of Funeral Doom Metal.
The curious case of when Sims 4 babies get their genetics and my only collaboration (read: was talking about it with a friend and might quote her if needed, it’s actually a bit of a doozy)
Amazon.com’s fake dried udon noodles, an actual issue by the way.
Things I’m reading! (This’d be a monthly feature if so)
For the sake of unity, I am thinking of solutions for hosting old and shameful content there including Uptown and for the real fans in my followers feed, Eight Cicadas...a world I totally have plans for too (not really). I don’t want them to be front-and-center, and that’s why I mentioned forums/members-only content. I finally have that power! Maybe.
Ooooh but what are the costs? Not too much to handle, that’s what. 😉 (Like really, I don’t need any hand-wringing about this, I can manage my finances)
Project Queue (In Order of Confirmedness)
Outrun the Scythe: have you seen me post out-of-context Sims 3 pictures? Did you want more? Did you hope it was Linda in Custody? If the answers are yes, yes, and “meh, whatever you want”, then you’re in luck.
Outrun the Scythe is a Sims 3-based tale of a young gay man and his zombie grandma, as they are both offered separate roles of being the undying intermediaries between the world of humans and the influence of a race of space daemons. It’s pretty familiar if you’ve been following me pre-Uptown, taking some cues from stories I’ve kept under lock and key like Eight Cicadas, The Chains of Lyra, and the not-so-locked-up Ironstar Immortals (of which Outrun is just the direct sequel to sans any retconning...ah the smell of early 2013 and performative heterosexuality)
Ah, back to my roots.
It’s a hybrid of gameplay, story, and lore about my little race of daemons with a lot of my own idiosyncrasies that I’m not really ashamed of: basing it off a super-polarizing Sims 3 challenge from a site I moderate, using a lot of EA’s pre-made townies and their genes, lots of unnecessary posemaking, stupid references. It’s a comfort to have in my roster.
While the first few chapters are in the middle of revision, I have around six in the queue and will be making this public when I have ten. I’m guessing December then?
Undocumented Black Widow Challenge: I just did this for fun/forum kudos (yes, in fact I have joined many forums), there was going to be a short story but it was quickly becoming something against my code of ethics. I mean, sims die and all. (read: I had to choose between “heterosexual widow” and “widow with some same-sex marriages that still end in tragedy, reinforcing negative stereotypes to the public for the sake of me not getting bored and detached during gameplay” so there were no good choices. Except for her affair with the mailwoman, 10/10) I hope to finish this before October ends and get my medal on Boolprop, I’m pretty far through it all. I might upload the sims involved anyways. This is for TS4.
I mentioned it because it’s keeping me busy. But not for long!
NaNoWriMo 2020: Dipping my toes into that again! It’s not sims-related, just a tale of lesbians, nosy neighbors, a haunted beach house, and some light murder and kidnapping. And I actually got my brother to scout out locations for me this weekend. If there’s any demand, I can share chapters as the rough drafts are finished, especially for the sake of proofreading.
Not saying I’m publishable, but wouldn’t it be nice? Will keep me occupied for much of November.
Untitled “Dear Diary” Challenge: Tired of feeling left out of the fun on the Boolprop forums, their “Dear Diary” challenge was the one that appealed to me the most on first glance. Why? Probably once I found an idea that let it be set in the early/mid-2000′s to begin with and explore some interesting characters through diary entries (which I have mixed feelings on as a literary device but I think that’s just me saying “well I didn’t like Dracula”, yes you get bonus points for writing it like a diary)
Also writing is the one skill I’m good at across multiple games. Wanna hear me bitch about the cooking skill tree in TS4 or riding in TS3? I’ll spare you.
I guess I could have included “spending time on Boolprop with old and new friends” in where my life has been. It’s a nice lil community if also a place with its own idiosyncrasies as well. So it doesn’t feel like I’m promoting another community if/when I make a thread there for Outrun the Scythe, I want to have a couple chapters of this ready to go by Outrun’s release, though it’s not gonna be the highest priority compared to it nor as long because I think I can blast through the gameplay quickly.
This one will be played in TS4 due to it having the easiest writing skill/I dunno variety is the spice of life. And hopefully another December release.
Defunded or Forgotten?: Oh shit I actually released stuff in 2020 and told no one? I do have a “mortifying ordeal of being known” sinking feeling whenever I get a site hit because it’s not my best work (but good enough) and veered sharply into issues I may be over my head in, though I try to be a good noodle with research and listening. Maybe hiding is bad after all.
Being based off a very flawed and incomplete Sims 3 challenge I found in the annals of the Official Forums, there’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work just making sense of things. And I’m scared of working on reconstructing the house but I haven’t abandoned the project yet. The story has eight chapters so far and is pretty game-based with some additions here and there. Scared of how long it could be though!
Date for this unknown.
Untitled Sunlit Tides Decadynasty: another year-long abandoned TS3 project with a much stupider reason why. Last update was about Hua getting ready for her wedding, and I wanted to do some poses for a bait-and-switch wedding chapter because to put it mildly, her real one was an absolute disaster.
Blender decided to fuck up its interface again, I got discouraged (this probably does account for some of the Uptown delays too), and when I decided to plow forward, it was for other projects instead.
Meanwhile I played all the way to Gen 5′s teenhood and the only thing stopping me is time (it takes almost 30 minutes to load the file right now, though they’ll be looking at moving towns in a couple gens) and maybe fear of the Logic skill.
Date for this also unknown but it’s easy to pump out updates once I’m in the groove for it. My third heir had a difficult life so maybe I’m just trying to bury it.
Also I just noticed the view count there was really good and probably because I linked it here on Tumblr last year. Thank you so much guys. I can’t really fret over views on Carl’s forum these days thanks to the years-long death spiral pretty much every forum anywhere has been riding on. But it’s a nice surprise. And it’s an alright little challenge recap to read during your lunch break or whatever.
The Wawas
I figured I’d end on the real news everyone wants! Both the chihuahuas are a year and a half now and reached their adult size around a year ago. For the most part, they are happy and healthy dogs.

Dark Matters
Chapter 2: An Old Friend
“Man, I fucking hate Elf Town,” Daryl complained from the passenger seat of the police car.
Nick huffed a sigh, keeping his eyes on the road. “I’m aware. You say that every time we drive through.”
“Because I hate it every time!” Daryl groaned in distain as he watched the expensively dressed elves go by. “Those Magic feds couldn’t come out to the station? It’s not like they ain’t been there before. They know where it is.”
“You read the email, Ward,” Jakoby reminded, glancing at his partner. “If they were to come out too close around the time of the Wand incident, people are gonna start suspecting things.”
“It’s been two years, man. And isn’t it suspicious that two LAPD officers, the ones who were involved with the Wand incident, are going to Magic Task Force HQ?”
Nick said nothing. He understood Daryl’s apprehension. After their traumaticing encounter with the Inferni, and the revelation that Daryl is a Bright, all he wanted was for things to go back to normal. or as close to normal as possible. No one knew about Daryl being a Bright except Nick and the two MTF agents, Kandomere and Montehugh. Not even his family knew.
“I can’t deal with this shit again, Nick,” Ward continued. “We almost died last time. You did die.”
Nick grunted. He hated being reminded. The scar was reminder enough. “The sooner this is taken care of, the sooner we can go back to our normal lives.” He pondered for a moment. “Well, normal-ish.”
Daryl scoffed, and the rest of the ride was silent. Whatever it was the agents needed from them, he knew it was Magic related. And it was going to take a while.
Although having gather as much information as possible for the moment, Kandomere paced his office once more with more files in hand. Perhaps he missed something. Another, a different, elf involved, maybe not an elf at all? He was desperate for it to be someone else, anyone besides-
The landline on his desk buzzed and he stopped pacing to answer.
“Agent, the LAPD officers are here,” a woman informed.
“Thank you, send them in.” He quickly shut the files away in his desk and sat in his chair as Jakoby and Ward entered.
“Thank you for coming out on such short notice,” he started as they sat. “I’m sure you’re wondering why I called for you in the first place.”
“something Magic related?” Daryl asked. He already knew the answer, yet he still so foolishly hoped otherwise.
Kandomere sighed. “The Wand was stolen.” Daryl and Nick stared in disbelief, so he opened his laptop to the security footage so they could see for themselves.
“Fuck...” Ward muttered, running a hand over his face. Kandomere nodded somberly as he shut the laptop. “So, what? You want us to go looking for it?”
“Of course not,” Kandomere reassured. “You two got lucky retrieving it from Leilah, and you only got accidentally roped into that one. You’ll get yourselves killed if I send you out purposely after these people.”
“Then what?”
Nick kicked his partner’s foot and shot him a warning look. Now was not the time to get an attitude. Daryl glared at Nick and rolled his eyes with a scoff.
Kandomere, although annoyed, kept his composure. “I need your assistance.” He handed them a background check sheet. “I have reason to believe this elven woman might be affiliated with the two in the footage.”
Nick handed Daryl the sheet. “Do you want us to bring her in for questioning?” he asked.
Kandomere shook his head as he stood from his desk, grabbing his car keys. “We’re going to go to her. We’ll take my car.” Anxiety hit him like a freight train the moment those words left his lips.
Daryl and Nick followed after him. “So we’re your muscle?” Daryl asked with an eyebrow raised. Kandomere said nothing and continued walking, earning a cocky grin from Ward. “Hear that, Nick? Big, bad Magic fed needs some bodyguards.”
“My partner, Montehugh is busy with gathering more information,” Kandomere spoke sternly, clearly annoyed. “And I need you because she’s a Bright. If she were to try any funny shit, I figured having another Bright may be useful.”
Daryl’s smug smile turned into a scowl at the reminder. He looked over to Nick who only shrugged in response. Daryl shook his head in displeasure as they reached Kandomere’s sleek, black 2020 Audi S7.
The trio found themselves driving through East LA. It was more diverse with humans, orcs, centaurs, and many other creatures of the like. It’s also an area you’d least likely find an elf passing through, let alone living.
Daryl stared out the backseat window in confusion. “Some shit really must’ve gone down with her if she’s living out here.” He looked at Kandomere, who kept his eyes on the road ahead. Daryl’s worry was confirmed. “What happened?”
“That’s not pertinent to this, Officer Ward,” Kandomere answered firmly. “We’re to go in, get the information we need, and get out.” All the while praying that he could keep it at that.
Daryl and Nick didn’t buy into it. There was a history between him and this woman, but they knew better than to pry.
After another short while of silent driving, they arrived at their destination. They pulled into an apartment complex parking lot, taking an open space in front. Two orc children and one human child played in the grass, their parents socializing with each other on the patio. The orc father was the first to notice the car, very out of place in this part of the city. He stood from his seat and approached the three men as they exited the car.
“Good afternoon,” Nick greeted, feeling it was best that he took over for now. “This is Agent Kandomere, with the Magic Task Force. This is Officer Wa-”
“Officers Ward and Jakoby, with LAPD,” the orc resident finished. Yeah, I’ve heard about you guys. Especially you.” He held his hand out to Nick. “The name’s Markus.”
Nick smiled and shook his hand. Daryl and Kandomere gave each other a relieved glance. Perhaps this would go over easier than expected.
“So what can we do for you? You guys look like you’re far from home.” Markus asked.
Kandomere felt the question was more directed toward him, seeing that he was an elf and all. But he didn’t pay it any mind. “We’re looking Ynshael Cortez. Goes by ‘Shae’?”
Markus nodded with a chuckle. “Ah, I should’ve guessed. She sticks out like a sore thumb around here.” He turned toward the entrance and pointed them in the right direction. “Through that door, up the first flight of stairs, door on the right.”
Kandomere nodded in thanks before heading toward the door.
“She’s not in trouble, is she?” Markus called after.
The three men stopped and turned back to face Markus. “Do you have relations with her?” Daryl asked.
Markus shrugged. “Her and I don’t talk much, but she’s good friends with my wife and she nannies the kids in the area. The kids definitely seem to love her.”
A moment of relief washed over Kandomere. Shae hadn’t been up to no good after all these years. Or so it seemed. Sadly, he still couldn’t rule he rout just based on a good word.
Kandomere nodded again. “Thank you.” He continued to the door, this time faster. Was it the anticipation to see her, or did he just want to get this over with? It had been over a decade since they’ve spoken, let alone seen each other. How much had she changed? Would she even remember him? The things they’d been through together? If she did, would she even want to see him? They hadn’t exactly left off on good terms...
Before he knew it, the three of them stood just outside her door. Kandomere pushed aside the bothersome thoughts. This was business. But though it was such, he found himself paralyzed.
“Agent Kandomere?” Nick tried. Kandomere didn’t move. Daryl huffed in annoyance and knocked on the door himself, the sound shaking Kandomere from his stupor.
The first thing they heard was a large dog barking, then a woman’s voice. “Titan, hush! I fucking swear, I never wanted to fight a dog before, but you’re testing my limits, dude.” The clicking of the locks coming undone could be heard from the other side. The door opened. “I love you, but seriously. Can I he-” She stopped the moment her icy blue eyes, smudged with eyeliner, caught Kandomere’s.
Kandomere felt a lump in his throat. It really was her. Wavy black to blond hair falling over her prominent collarbone, a grey, ripped up Metallica crop top hung loosely on her torso, falling off her shoulder. A pair of black spandex shorts hugged her full hips.
She was exactly the same, except... Different. She now sported multiple piercing on her ears, a piercing on one side of her button nose, and one decorating the center of her bottom lip, drawing attention to their plumpness. And so many tattoos... Yes, it was her, exactly the same, yet different.
Kandomere cleared he lump in his throat and pushed away years of suppressed feelings (and the rather new suppressed feeling in his trousers). “Hello, Shae,” he managed to speak as professionally as possible.
“No...” A knowing sharp-toothed grin grew on her face. “...way.” She propped her elbow on the doorway above he rhead and placed a hand on her hip. “Kandomere? Is that really you?”

IAC Reviews #012: Traces of Death (1993)
Warning: Traces of Death is NSFW/NSFL and this review will go into topics about graphic violence, death media, and other issues that might be upsetting to some readers/viewers. However, this review won’t contain any such imagrey and is marked as safe. If you do want to check it out, then proceed with caution and take the opening [EXTREME WARNING] as your notice if you should leave or not. ________________________________________
In a recent post I made, I mentioned being stumped on what to do next since, as of writing this, I have close to 330 titles on my list to explore and cross off from a wide range of styles and categories; from relatively obscure found footage movies to the most utterly disappointing and abysmal trash that SOV has to offer. Given the explicit or just completely rare nature of some of these, I don’t expect all of these to stay around long. So, it’s probably wise to start from there and branch out to titles that are more accessible to come across in the wild. This means we’re taking another trip back to the world of mondo death media, which I don’t think we’ll be seeing for a while after this one - or at least I can only hope so.
Today, we’re taking a look into one of the most notorious shockumentary films out there, that being the first Traces of Death film; a brutal start in a five part series that marked a turning point within the already niche and controversial subgenre with the birth of the Internet and the dawning of the new millenium.
With the opening, we’re met with a text crawl notice stating that the makers planned on having a series of beeps before the start of the most explicit clips to act as a warning for viewers to look away in the event they see something they’d rather not have. However, this changed and the tones were omitted altogether because this would have meant having tones and beeps before every sequence. That’s a weird flex, but okay. The cold opening also tells us that because of the shocking nature of the film (and soon to be series) containing 100% authentic footage, this would make it the first “true” shockumentary.
I mean...
Yeah, I guess, you aren’t exactly wrong. It’s more authentic than Faces of Death by a landslide for sure and other questionable films around the same time like True Gore. That's something I won’t argue Damon Fox or Darrin Ramage on. However, to call it the first “true” shockumentary is a stretch because Death Scenes came out four years prior to this in 1989, and those photos were authentic. However, if we’re talking about just non-stop death media and imagrey one after the other, then that’s still a really questionable hot take.
It’s been a damn long time since I’ve seen this 13 some odd years ago, so let’s see where this takes us yet again. And yes, I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop when the mods decide that me talking about this is not safe for work and it inevitably gets shadowbanned. ________________________________________
Traces of Death in One Gif:
I probably should have saved this gif for when I reviewed Extreme Life & Death, but even now I don’t know if I’m impressed by it or not. But, even here I’m not too sure how I completely feel.
As I said in before, there’s a saying that once you’ve seen one shockumentary, then you’ve seen all of them with their rinse, lather, repeat method of punching you back-to-back with random acts of violence caught on film. Just like its decrepit brothers and sisters before it, this is no different, even if it likes to beat it’s chest about being the new alpha of the pack to lead us into the next generation of shocking content. So, what is it about Traces of Death that has made it have the lasting impact or brutish reputation that it has if everything is at the end of the day “all the same”.
Well, let’s go into that. ________________________________________
The disclaimer and marketing for it helped for sure, solidifying everything that made some people feel cheated by Faces of Death with - that being the authenticity factor.
At this moment in time, Faces of Death IV had come out barely three years ago and the series was taking a bit of a nosedive with what was being pushed out. While there was still a fair amount of authentic footage, there was still a pitiful amount of staged and recreated material that looked very amaturish compared to the series’ hayday back in the late 1970s. It was clear what the gorehounds wanted and it was not only more death, but truly real death that could only be matched by the more obscure shockumentaries that either had yet to come out; like Death File, Death Press, Banned! in America, and MDPOPE, or had been spoken of in whispers and have faded into obscurity to the point of becoming rare and non-existent to the sands of time.
With the Internet being in its young infancy, you now had the power to be connected to others across the world in an instant and the need to seek out the taboo and forbidden was much closer to your fingertips than ever before. This new, booming demand to see and experience death wouldn’t truly be met until the birth of Rotten.com in 1996, oddly enough with the departure of Faces of Death the same year - a sort of sad way of the old days dying with a whimper, rather than the bang it had such high expectations for. If you weren’t able to find the raw carnage you anticipated with the Internet, then you had Traces of Death to curb your appetite until you could - no matter what the topic was.
For me, shockumentaries have at least two schools of thought with their presentation; a narrative style where everything is presented in an organized manner to designate different chapters, such as plane crashes, autopsies, animal death, and so on, or it’s more chaotic and disorganized in nature and you get hit left to right with whatever they can find. Traces of Death follows the more chaotic line of thinking. While it does make an attempt at some kind to figure out what it wants to do, a lot of it jumps around from one subject matter to the next, so you never really know what’s going to happen next. It’s pretty easy to go from a trucking accident one moment to a graphic surgery the next, if that makes sense.
This, in question, is where I sort of have a conflicting problem with whether or not this is the first “true” shockumentary or not. _______________________________________
As I stated previously, there have been other shockumentaries before this one that hone in on death in all its various forms, and is just as authentic as Traces of Death with the media presented. Once again, Death Scenes comes to mind. If the qualifications for it to be a true shockumentary is having an emphasis on death and dying, this helps Death Scenes and it’s case of being the one of, if not the first, genuinely true shockumentary with 100% unaltered media. So, what lead to Traces of Death taking the crown instead is purely anyone’s guess. I’d assume it was because of the in-name connection to Faces of Death and sheer bizarre access they had to so much footage with little to no money tied to the budget, which IMDb says was estimated to be $18 (at least $32.13USD as of March 2020 with an inflation rate of 2.5%).
That’s still absolute chump change compared to the unused news footage the Faces of Death team had access to back in the day, particularly with smuggled footage from overseas that wouldn’t really be seen anywhere else until other shockumentaries like Executions and the Banned! films would be unleashed. Speaking of which, what can we expect with this one in particular? Just like with the films before it, you can expect to see much of the same; graphic animal cruelty, animal attacks, road and sporting accidents, plane crashes, crime scene photos, autopsies, and surgery footage. The Wikipedia page for the series goes into greater detail about other sequences that been traced to other mondo films like True Gore and Ultime grida dalla savana, which makes one of the final sequences showing the death of tourist Pit Dernitz all the more interesting, as there’s been conflicting information about whether or not it was staged. While there’s sources out there that say it was authentic, if it turned out that this was in fake, then it completely damages the film’s reputation of being 100% real.
One thing the series does deviate from, at least as far as this one goes, is the narration as a storytelling tool. While we do get quips here and there from our edgy narrator, Damon Fox, it doesn’t completely guide us in the same manner as Faces of Death, Death Scenes, Executions, and many others would. The scenes mostly speak for themselves, something which Extreme Life & Death couldn’t make up it’s mind on given how it used a copy-and-paste method with stringing stuff along. This may have been to the series’ advantage though, as Damon said later on in an interview that he was told viewers hated the narration and accompanying instrumental soundtrack, and would just watch the movie(s) on mute while blasting their brutal death metal albums. This, in turn, lead to the series taking a big change with Traces of Death II (1994), as the soundtrack switched to showcase and promote metal and grindcore artists - and bands could have wrote in to have their own music featured if they wanted. This lead to artists like Gorefest, Macabre, End of Green, Grave, Dreadful Shadows, Hypocrasy, Meshuggah, and Sinister to be added to the impressive disography list for something with next to no budget, forever helping to change the voice of the series to help it stand out among the big dogs of its ilk. ________________________________________
If I had to name something that seriously hurts this, it’s that some scenes drag out for way too long and the shock and horror behind what’s in front of you begins to lose it’s luster after a while. In one way, it’s definetly tied into the saying where once you’ve seen say, one cranial examination, you’ve seen them all. In another, it’s also becoming somewhat unfazed after lingering on a certain image a bit too long - even if it’s bleak beyond words. One scene in particular goes on for over ten minutes, and while it’s heavy for sure, it does subside a bit after some time...unless that’s just more telling about what kind of person I am. If you’re particuarly sensitive to gruesome content and it makes you uncomfortable, then this will have an entirely different affect on you. However, if you’re like me and you’ve seen, for example, a lot of medical and crime related violence, this won’t exactly be uncharted waters for you. It’s interesting to note though that Japan had a different edit of the film, removing some sequence and adding their own - but the more finer details on what kind of adjustments they made with photo or video evidence is alien to me.
There’s also the issue of the narration, which I feel detracts from the material and can feel annoying and cringy in the same ways that Faces of Gore does with the tasteless jokes and edgelord humor. When I re-examined this, I absolutely get why some viewers tuned out whenever any form of narration came up, since it didn’t do much of anything to push things along from a storytelling standpoint like Faces of Death did. I would have done the same thing as well, and it almost felt unnessary with how sparse it was in general because in the scenes where some form of backstory could have helped make sense of what was going on, nothing happened. It’s nothing particularly special, so whether or not you choose to press mute is up to you since you won’t be missing much if you don’t really care for such pressing matters. ________________________________________ So, what’s there left to say about Traces of Death, at least as far as the first one goes?
Well, I feel like I need to give credit where it’s due in that it was one of the earliest entries in the shockumentary/mondo/exploitation genre to do what it set out to accomplish fairly well. It’s bite was as strong as it’s bark when it came to wanting to stand out in a sea of death and destruction in an era full of pretenders and cash-ins, which this technically is, no doubt. I’m also thoroughly impressed by what it was able to do for an actual shoestring budget that likely helped to pave the way for Banned! from Television and mixtapes like Fist Pig and MDPOPE for being a bizarre collection of violence, sadism, and hardcore NSFW material that could only be found in the grimiest corners of the web or someone’s crawlspace. It’s an impressive collection, I’ll give it that much.
But, when you strip all that away and you take it all at face value, does it hold up? Ehh...sort of, at least to me.
The quality isn’t too great in some areas, but given that this had next to no budget, I shouldn’t expect miracles with scans and film stock transfers. When it comes to being held to the ranks of it’s elder siblings, I feel that it showed what it can do and that it has the staying power that it has. If it didn’t, I don’t think it would have had earned the same amount of controversy it did over the years, going as far as to get banned from Australian Customs and being rejected by the BBFC in 2005 where it still sits today in March 2020 alongside other films like Mikey, Silent Night, Deadly Night 2, Hate Crime, Murder-Set-Pieces, and Bumfights to name a few.
If you’re new to death related media, this one might be a tough pill to swallow, and all the more jarring and annoying with the narration. If you choose to embark on this one, you won’t really be missing much at all if you choose to mute it and add your own music and go off the Wikipedia descriptions to keep up with what’s going on. However, if death related media is your cup of tea and you think this is a total waste of time, then you also won’t be missing much of anything either. I’m pretty sure the vast majority of these sequences can be found online if you look hard enough, even if it means cycling through other shockumentaries and mondo films that this sampled from or sample from this.
At the end of the day, it’s almost all the same, right?

Perfectly Imperfect: Chapter 1
With Tumblr holding my original writing blog @beccaheartschrisevans captive (aka flagged as explicit), I have made a secondary writing blog and may end up closing the other all together. In the meantime, I am reposting all of my stories on my new blog.
Pairing: Chris Evans x Wren Arnold (OFC)

Perfectly Imperfect Masterlist | Chris & Wren Masterlist
Prologue
Chapter 1
April 17, 2020
Going to the grocery store after a long week at work was the last thing that Lauren "Wren" Arnold wanted to do, but she didn't have a choice if she wanted more than wine for dinner. Though, after the day she'd had, wine would play a large roll in her unwinding for the evening.
The day had started relatively normal and had been that way until about lunchtime, when she'd gotten a call from the school nurse informing her that two of her students were out for the day due to head lice. Having taught Kindergarten for nearly ten years, Wren had known that the rest of the day would be lost to the rest of the class being checked for head lice. She'd read book after book while her students had been checked by the school nurse and other volunteers. In the end, two additional students were found to be victims and they'd been sent home early while the rest of the class had been sent home with letters informing parents of the outbreak.
Wren, herself, had been subjected to a check once the class had left for the day and she, thankfully, had been free of the nasty bugs. She had then spent an extra hour working with the school nurse and janitor to give her classroom a thorough cleaning.
Now it was after six in the evening and Wren was just getting to the grocery store, something that usually happened a little after four on a normal Friday. She grabbed a hand-held basket then pulled out the handwritten grocery list she had compiled before the phone call and referenced it as she made her way through the fruits and the vegetable section.
After getting the fresh produce that was on her list, she made her way into one of the center aisles and grimaced when she heard a little kid crying loudly. The sound grew louder as she made her way up and down the aisles, grabbing what she needed. As she passed the aisle that the poor child was on, she couldn't help but steal a glance in their direction and froze when she recognized the upset little girl and her dad.
Hurrying towards them, Wren pulled a smile onto her face and used her best teacher voice to say, "Oh my, what's going on here?"
Father and daughter turned to look at her and she couldn't tell who was happier to see her: Chris Evans or his two, nearly three, year old daughter. A look of relief had washed over Chris's tired face as Adelaide "Addy" Evans stopped crying.
"What's wrong, Addy?" Wren asked as she dried the little girl's tears with her thumbs.
"We missed nap time," Chris explained. "And then I wouldn't let her bring her teddy bear into the grocery story." He raked his hand through his hair. "It's been a rough day, but we don't have anything in the house for dinner so…"
"You shop, I'll push and entertain her," Wren told him. She handed him her basket and he put it into the shopping cart.
"You might as well give me your list, too," he said, motioning for her list.
"How do you know I have a list?" Wren asked.
"Because you never go anywhere without a list," Chris stated. "You love making lists and you've been doing it the entire 24 years I've known you. So hand it over."
"Fine," she replied, handing over the list. "But stick to the brand names and ask if you have any questions."
Wren followed Chris through the store as she talked with Addy. Seeing the pair of them tonight was just what she needed after her horrible day. The single dad and his little girl had become a favorite treat to her otherwise boring life. Not that she would admit that out loud to anyone, especially not to her roommate Heidi, who happened to be the guidance counselor at the elementary school Wren worked at.
After three years of relative silence, Chris had blown back into Wren's life five months ago, a few weeks before Christmas. She'd heard via his older sister that his wife, Jessa, had filed for divorce in November, a few weeks after their third wedding anniversary. Wren knew it had come as a complete shock to Chris and he had spent the first few months in Boston being angry at the world and everyone in it save for Addy.
Wren knew very little about the divorce and the reasons for it. Articles about it reported 'irreconcilable differences', but Chris had been relatively quiet about it all, other than the occasional choice word for his ex-wife. Whatever his personal feelings about Jessa were, he refused to let anyone speak badly about her in front of Addy.
Chris's reentry into Wren's life had been relatively seamless. The first few months had been kind of rocky, mostly because of his attitude, but he was slowly becoming the Chris she loved and remembered. And Addy was adorable, smart, funny and Chris’s mini me. She had taken the cross country move remarkably well for a two and a half year old and was thriving under all the love showered on her by her grandma, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Said family members had been sad, but had understanding, when Chris had decided, a month ago, that it was time for him and Addy to get their own place. Not that he had moved very away, having purchased a modest three bedroom, two and a half bathroom house a block away. Wren knew they were still adjusting to it being just the two of them, but she had faith that Chris would figure it out, it was obvious to anyone who looked at him that he loved his little girl.
"Ok, I think that's everything," Chris said as he dropped a pint of mint chocolate chip ice cream into Wren's basket.
"That wasn't on my list," Wren told him.
"But a head lice kit is," Chris stated, bringing up the last item that was scribbled on her list. "I think you need the ice cream."
"Chris, it's not part of my budget," she replied. She resisted the urge to roll her eyes; he might be able to afford anything his heart desired, but she had a strict budget.
"I'm paying for your groceries tonight," he told her then gave her a look that dared her to argue.
"Fine, but then I want an expensive bottle of -" Wren stopped when Chris pulled a bottle of her favorite wine out of her basket, making it clear that he had already swapped out the cheaper version when she had been distracting Addy. "I was joking, but I won't say no."
As they reached the checkout counters, they found long lines. They attempted to find the shortest one, but it was only a few minutes before Addy started fussing again.
"I can take her out to the car, if you'd like," Wren offered.
Chris fished his car keys from his pocket and then handed them to Wren. He told her where he parked and then hoisted Addy out of the cart. He gave her a raspberry on her neck, making her giggle, and then set her feet on the ground.
Wren took Addy's hand and led the little girl out of the grocery store. They sang a nursery rhyme as they looked for Chris's car. Once they had found it, they sat in the backseat together, with Addy holding onto her beloved teddy bear, while they waited for Chris. After a few minutes, Addy crawled onto Wren's lap and laid her head on her shoulder and Wren couldn't help but hold her close.
By the time Chris got to the car, Addy was asleep. He put his groceries into the trunk and then helped Wren transfer Addy into her car seat. The little girl slept through the process of being buckled in and didn't even flinch when Chris closed the door.
"Thank you for your help today," Chris said to Wren. "I was about to lose my mind. She was crying and I couldn't remember a thing I needed to buy."
"Maybe you should start making actual, handwritten lists," Wren teased as she pushed his shoulder. "But I'm happy I was there to help."
Chris laughed and wrapped his arms around her, hugging her tight.
Wren felt her heart skip a beat as she breathed in the comforting scent that was his cologne mixed with a faint hint of baby powder, laundry soap and men's soap. She wrapped her arms around his waist and hugged him back, loving the way she felt safe and secure in his arms.
The honk of a horn startled them and Chris let go of her, forcing her to let go of him.
"I'd walk you to your car, but," he nodded towards his sleeping daughter.
"It's ok," Wren assured him. She grabbed the shopping cart and gave him a quick wave before she pushed the cart to her car. She loaded her groceries into the backseat of her car then returned the cart.
It wasn't until she arrived home and started unloading her bags of groceries that she saw that Chris had snuck a few other things into the basket while she hadn't been paying attention: a box of Twinkies, their go to after school snack before play practices, and a carton of Milk Duds, her favorite movie theater candy.
Wren shook her head and grabbed her phone. She quickly typed him a text and sent it to him.
Thanks for the Twinkies and the Milk Duds.
He responded a second later:
Thought you needed them with all that healthy crap. Addy is awake. TTYL
Wren chuckled and set her phone aside. She put a frozen dinner into the microwave and poured herself a glass of wine while she waited for it to cook. Then she carried her dinner over to the couch and settled down.
The desire she'd had to drown herself in wine when she'd left work was now gone and she didn't need her therapist roommate to tell her what the reason was.

Why do you need insurance while your license is suspended? There are a few factors that go into determining the cost of your insurance. The type of car you drive, the make and model of the vehicle being driven, and the make and model of your car’s paint are a bit like depending on the paint chip of your car. When you ask an independent shop for quotes, the dealer will have to offer them as much auto insurance information as they can honestly offer to the consumer. The dealer will need information about your credit, your driving record, and whether or not you own any of the common credit cards you are going through. As with . You pay an annual fee to have your car registered at all times. The reason why is out of pocket? The vehicle you own is the one that is being driven. If you do not have car insurance, you will never get the protection that you need for your car or drivers. If you get into a car crash, the cost of repair or medical bills will exceed the insurance limits. If.
Can I get Insurance with a Suspended License?
Can I get Insurance with a Suspended License? Because accidents are so rare these days, insurance companies may charge more for certain offenses. In addition, you’re likely to pay more for auto repair and roadside assistance if you can’t find a company willing to insure you. To protect yourself or your assets, it’s important to shop for insurance coverage once and for all. There’s no simple answer to a difficult question like “Does my car insurance cover Accident with a Suspended License”, but it may be worthwhile. Read through this guide so you know you’ll be properly covered. As an insurance agent with more than 20 years experience, I’ve seen how much insurance is for your fleet of tanks. You need a better insurance ratio for this type of vehicle. You don’t want to purchase insurance for a tank that exceeds.
SR-22 Insurance
SR-22 Insurance form] Driving without proof of insurance or registration is prohibited in Oklahoma and is punishable by the following fines: $130 fine; $350 registration suspension; $350 reinstatement fee. Other penalties apply, including suspension of license and registration. oFor further information: 1 Year in SR22 filing with OWI for the last 3 years. No evidence of prior insurance or driving history deemed proof of insurance in the last 3 years. An examination fee of $5 is added to the application (or application fee ) and the insurer is required to pay for 90 days. The SR-22 is mailed to OWI at least 25 days before the policy is scheduled to be issued. An inspection fee of $20 is added and no inspection certificate is required. If any revocation of driving privileges is found during the 90-day period, a reinstatement certificate is required to be filed for a reinstatement period of 3 years within which time.
Suspended License Insurance
Suspended License Insurance License (RS) RequirementsIn North Carolina and Virginia, people with an active license must maintain proof of financial responsibility for the vehicle they intend to use (at least 15,000 for loss/property damage), of a valid driver s license that proves no proof of insurance. All drivers must maintain this proof for their registration and vehicle registration for at least two years. Failure to maintain a valid insurance policy in North Carolina also puts a driver at risk of suspension of driver s or vehicle’s license from North Carolina. When a driver files a claim for car repairs and non-reimbursable damages (also called non-IPS) as a result of a DUI, they may be unable to register their vehicle due to failure to maintain insurance coverage. In Virginia, people convicted of a DUI are also required by Virginia law to carry SR22 insurance (and may need to file an SR22 filing for three years) or SR26 insurance if they are involved in an accident. If a person is convicted.
Why Do I Need Car Insurance if My License is Suspended?
Why Do I Need Car Insurance if My License is Suspended? If your license has been suspended, you likely have to obtain an SR-22 or SR-22 insurance certificate. Many states require that drivers carry a minimum of $50,000/$500,000 of bodily injury liability coverage, with a minimum of $20,000 of property damage liability coverage. Remember, SR-22 or SR-22 insurance can be expensive, so consider your situation carefully when selecting your insurer. A SR-22 insurance certificate is actually not insurance at all. Rather, it is a certificate containing your state’s insurance codes, proof that you have purchased insurance. While some states may require you to obtain a certificate of self-insurance, those restrictions are non-negotiable for most states. The SR-22 is simply a document issued from your insurance company stating that you are insured. Once issued, the SR-22 is presented in order to facilitate a timely filing of a financial compensation claim. The SR-22 form is filed with your insurance provider within.
SR22 Insurance for Drivers with a Suspended License
SR22 Insurance for Drivers with a Suspended License: If you don’t have a valid license and have a , you will get a SR 22 which requires you to have your own insurance. You will have to get your SR22 because that will mean you will have a lapse in your license for a period of 10-40days for the rest of a year. This is not ideal but sometimes the car industry will send a copy of the document which is required. There are a few times when it will show up on your insurance for drivers who don’t use their car for a period of time. The original insurance company is then most likely to be forced into a higher insurance rates or lose their insurance policy altogether due to such a lapse in coverage. After the first policy is issued, you can renew the SR22 insurance with the SR24, but you should find out by then that your lapse in coverage has expired and your insurance isn’t as good a deal as your regular record would indicate. You may have to try.
Can you get suspended license insurance if you don’t already have coverage?
Can you get suspended license insurance if you don’t already have coverage? Or, if you don’t have it already? When a life-threatening accident leaves you uninsured, you need to know how to get coverage. As with any state-led scheme, there are things you can do. Most Americans need auto insurance. In fact, there are some that, if properly managed, can become a viable option for . Some of the reasons cited in this article are: If I have car insurance (also known as non-ownership or student insurance) and I get into a car accident, do I need to make a claim with my car insurance? No, but not if the damage and time-consuming car damage is significant. But if you have insurance, you should understand that what’s left of any damage will end with the customer in a car wreck – it’ll be covered, in most cases, against whatever damages the customer caused. In addition to a claim of the owner of the vehicle you drive, there can be different types of.

How to get started with Linux Kernel Development?
First of all, I’m super glad to find your interest in Linux kernel development. It is a fantastic community and my favorite domain of work. I still consider myself a beginner in the Linux kernel space. I’ve been part of two Linux kernel development mentorship programs and fortunate to have awesome mentors who help me in figuring out my way into the community. I also get a lot of “How do I get started with Linux Kernel Development?” questions and hence I’m writing this blog to offer whatever help I can offer with my whatsoever little experience!
Disclaimer: I’m no expert and this is not a tutorial. This post is more like here are a bunch of resources (that I think) you should check out in order to get started. This post is inspired by my write-ups for the participants of the Open Source Day at the virtual Grace Hopper Celebration and Semester Long Projects at DA-IICT this year. So if you’re one of them, the content may seem familiar :).
About Linux-kernel
Linux is a clone of the operating system Unix, written from scratch by Linus Torvalds with assistance from a loosely-knit team of hackers across the Net. It aims towards POSIX and Single UNIX Specification compliance. It has all the features you would expect in a modern fully-fledged Unix, including true multitasking, virtual memory, shared libraries, demand loading, shared copy-on-write executables, proper memory management, and multistack networking including IPv4 and IPv6.

Where is the Code?
The Linux Kernel Archives - https://www.kernel.org/

linux-next.git - https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git

Most probably you want to clone linux.git and work on top of that to make sure that you’re working on top of the latest kernel. However sometimes, you also need to work on a particular git tree of some subsystem. You can easily figure it out once you decide what kind of work you want to do.

Where can I find REAL kernel developers?
In the Linux kernel world, all communication happens via maillists. http://vger.kernel.org/vger-lists.html
All the discussion happens in public over this mail groups and personal emails are discouraged. Apart from the mailgroups, you can also find many kernel developers on various IRC channels.
Good First Contributions:
Fix a checkpatch warning Please go through the Linux kernel coding style - https://elixir.bootlin.com/linux/latest/source/Documentation/process/coding-style.rst before attempting to fix any of the following warnings. Linux kernel is very dynamic. The below warnings were present at time of writing this blog, someone might have fixed it by the time you are reading this. Purpose of this list is to give you the idea of what a checkpatch warning looks like and why it is a good idea to get your linux kernel journey started with one of those. WARNING: Missing a blank line after declarations #160: FILE: drivers/staging/mt7621-dma/mtk-hsdma.c:160: + struct tasklet_struct task; + volatile unsigned long chan_issued; CHECK: Alignment should match open parenthesis #224: FILE: drivers/staging/mt7621-dma/mtk-hsdma.c:224: + dev_dbg(hsdma->ddev.dev, "info %08x, glo %08x, delay %08x, intr_stat %08x, intr_mask %08x\n", + mtk_hsdma_read(hsdma, HSDMA_REG_INFO), CHECK: Avoid CamelCase: <CM_GCR_REGn_MASK_CMTGT_IOCU0> #279: FILE: drivers/staging/mt7621-pci/pci-mt7621.c:279: + write_gcr_reg1_mask(mask | CM_GCR_REGn_MASK_CMTGT_IOCU0); WARNING: Missing or malformed SPDX-License-Identifier tag in line 1 #1: FILE: drivers/staging/mt7621-dts/mt7621.dtsi:1: +#include <dt-bindings/interrupt-controller/mips-gic.h> CHECK: Blank lines aren't necessary before a close brace '}' #545: FILE: drivers/staging/mt7621-pci/pci-mt7621.c:545: + + }
Improve Documentation Linux kernel documentation can be found here - https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/and under the Documentation directory of the Linux kernel source code - https://elixir.bootlin.com/linux/latest/source/Documentation.There exists guidelines and tools to enforce proper structure and format to the documentation but many documentation files are not yet following them. You can attempt the task to find such files(.txt) and convert them into proper format(.rst). Learn more here - https://dri.freedesktop.org/docs/drm/kernel-documentation.html
Work on a Staging Driver The staging tree, in drivers/staging/ is full of drivers that are not quite up to kernel coding style, or use deprecated API. Drivers get placed here in order to get cleaned up. Some drivers have a TODO file in their parent directory, that lists things that need to be done to it. You can either tackle the TODO items, &/ can do a simple coding style cleanups.
Fix a bug! There are many bugs found in the Linux kernel by various tools and users. These bug reports can be found at https://bugzilla.kernel.org/ and https://syzkaller.appspot.com/upstream. Bug fixing generally requires some familiarity with code-base and the patch submission process.
Participate in code reviews As I mentioned earlier, all the Linux kernel work happens in public over maillists. People submit their patches and community gives comments on them. Once enough people agree on the patch, it gets merged. You can contribute to this process by helping developers in improving/fixing their code. But please remember to be respectful and polite with your communication.
Let’s get your system ready

Where can I get help?
The best place is #kernelnewbies channel on irc.oftc.net. You can also subscribe to their maillist - http://lists.kernelnewbies.org/mailman/listinfo/kernelnewbies.
Another great place to learn is from the maillists of various mentorship programs related to Linux kernel. I would suggest not posting anything to these maillists unless you’re an applicant or participant of these programs. Nevertheless, you can find a ton of first contribution related questions and answers, participants’ first patches and much more from this mailgroups.

Disclaimer: I’m writing about my experience with major OS (Windows 10, macOs High/Sierra, Ubuntu/Manjaro) using a Solid State Drive. It has a huge impact in term of speed and it could be different from your own experience.
Hello there. To begin with, this post isn’t about what’s the best OS for everyday programming, it could depend on the stack used, Misc programs and specially YOU, so i’ll try to describe all the good/bad things that happened during my everyday workflows.
But before that I should let you know my programming stack so you won't get confused later. I mainly use:
PHP frameworks and CMS
nodejs frameworks for frontend
react native/ionic for mobile dev
Photoshop (with CssHat) for HTML Integration, banner for mobile apps.
ms office due to my current job.[1]
Ubuntu (Unity/Gnome):
By the end of 2015 and after a good run with Windows 7 and using Ubuntu just occasionally in virtual machines I thought I would give it a shot with a daily usage so I installed the 15.10 version. back then i was programming in PHP, Java and C# (because of my Software engineering Studies), php and apache had great performances locally, same for java but used a windows 7 VM for Visual Studio, Ms Office and Adobe Photoshop, because all the alternatives (Darkable/Gimp, Open office) weren't at the same levels. I tried but the more you use them the more you notice their weak points such as ease of use, backward compatibility.
I had a good (exactly 2 years) run switching between Unity and Gnome DE (I was the n°1 hater for KDE btw), but over time and even with SSD it felt a kinda slow (I was always stuck with 16.04 LTS) and honestly, I wasn’t fan of the Ubuntu’s PPAs either and then I discovered the Hackintosh community.
macOs (10.12/10.14)
So after a hell of an installation process I managed to run macOs Sierra smoothly on a laptop that has hardware near to macbook pro late 2012 (HP elitebook 840 G1). Apps installed with one simple drag n’ drop (applies to android studio too). It run the Android Virtual Device smoother than windows 7 and ubuntu with the same laptop, i was very surprised, the memory management, the apps integration and the overall stability was so great. At that time I finished my studies so no more Java or .Net programming, and the adobe/ms office suite was a strong point compared to Linux in general so every program ran natively without the need of any VM, with our beloved Unix cli.
The only drawback I had with mac, or with hackintosh, is the system updates/upgrades it was so painful to do it breaks your system every time, I was backing up the whole bootable system image whenever I attempted to update. Because the Kexts (Kernel extensions or “drivers”) weren’t always backward compatible.
So in the end i was thinking to go back to linux again but not sure which distribution i will stick with again, I wanted a stable distro that i forgot completely about something called upgrades of “big updates”. In the meantime I give Windows 10 another shot after hearing it got better and better in the last years.
And again, after 2 years with no workflow complaints I backed up my hackintosh installation and installed the last build of windows 10.
Windows 10.
I’ll resume my experience with one line: “not great, not terrible” Compared, again, to mac os the system was very smooth in every way, snapping windows, switching virtual desktops, programs and files search in the start menu, no problem but! I already missed the unix cli. Yeah I know there’s cmder and other tools. The overall performance was okay but there was some latency when compiling node js apps. My workflow didn’t change. I used Laragon for all my php projects with phpstorm and it was perfect honestly. On the other hand Android Emulator was terrible even with 8gb or ram and ssd, mac os was handling it way better.
In the meantime I played with some linux distros in VMs and made the choice: Manjaro, KDE flavor.
Manjaro:
“You said you hated KDE right?” well yes but for a cause, one I didn’t want to bring back the Gnome memories i had with Ubuntu and second, I disliked is because its similarity in UI compared to Windows in general, 10 specially then I found how very customizable was and again i’ll resume it with one line: “everything is a widget”. So in term of UI I made my simple comfortable setup.
Now in term of programs and workflow I still use PhpStorm for my php and nodejs projects, npm and yarn installed globally and surprisingly npm run very fast compared to windows and mac; git already installed, but for my php projects I migrate all of them to docker with docker compose, majority of projects were based on Laravel, Prestashop, Wordpress and old native php apps. I managed to dockerize some of them from scratch, some with Laradock.
Java/.Net: RIP.
For mobile development there were some struggles during configuring ionic and react native’s first run but done with them quickly, no problem with android studio but the emulator “again” wasn’t that good as mac os, but not that bad like windows. And I discovered a helpful package that cast my connected android device to my screen and it’s shown as a virtual device but a physical one, called scrcpy from the genymotion team!
And finally these are just some of the benefits why I picked manjaro:
No big breaking updates.
A rolling release distro.
Fast security patches.
The Great Arch User Repository (AUR)
Snap and Flatpak support (but why?)
Very stable.
But still there are some drawback, linux’s ones in general:
Still needing photoshop and lightroom.
Ms Office for work purpose (Managed to use Web version since we have ms365 but still miss Excel for heavy use)
Conclusion:
Finally and personally I’ll stick with linux for these main two reasons: native support for docker (future projects could be deployed with it) and the unix environment similarity to production servers (cli, ssh and packages’ configuration). I understand many of you will disagree for many things said in the post but that’s okay! because, finally, we choose what will help us to give the most of us in terms of productivity.
Thank you all for reading the most boring post ever made on Dev.to platform! I would gladly hear from you some of your thoughts and experiences as well. Thanks again! [1]
