Chantel Moore, with her child. She was shot by Police, supposedly doing a “wellness check.” She was of the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation from B.C. The shooting happened in her new home of Edmundston New Brunswick. #chantelmoore #policebrutality #disarmthepolice #portraitpainting #contemporaryart #sayhername (at Edmundston, New Brunswick) https://www.instagram.com/p/CCBYRO5AhmY/?igshid=1a6ciw8lzne4w

This should take you straight to an automatic scripted email from you to EVERY SINGLE NYC COUNCIL MEMBER asking them to deny the mayor's budget which grossly overfunds the NYPD. All you have to do is change the name, borough, etc.

I’ve been participating in protests of all kinds since I was a young student of civil disobedience in high school (shout-out to my Mt. Open classmates!) but I have never seen anything like what I’m witnessing today. After some initial hesitation on my part to join protesters here in the city (hi pandemic!) I finally decided the rewards outweighed the risks and I marched through nearly 10 mi. of city streets yesterday. That’s a personal decision to make but the momentum of this moment is an opportunity that should not be squandered by anyone. Please, if you feel like you are at all able to, or you are on the fence because you feel like it is unsafe, let me say that while some risks remain, these protests are by-and-large peaceful and incredibly powerful and empowering. Out of the many thousands of people at yesterday’s march nearly everyone was wearing a mask. (Plus, it’s kind of fun to be masked at a protest, you feel like a vigilante!) Loudly yelling the names of the most recent victims of police brutality until you are horse is not only cathartic it also insures that you never forget those names and gives you an opportunity to spend some time reflecting on what it might be like to have the life slowly choked out of you while police stood around and watched. GEORGE FLOYD! Or perhaps to be jolted awake by the tremendous noise of gunfire before being fatally shot. BREONNA TAYLOR! I don’t know how to solve the problem of systemic racism that is so deeply entrenched in America BUT I DO KNOW that law enforcement in the US is irrevocably broken. It’s time to re-allocate tax payer $$—OUR $$—to programs that actually serve and protect people and the community. DISARM the police. DEFUND the police. . Plenty of protests to participate in so please check whatever resources you may have available. @justiceforgeorgenyc is a good one here in NYC. And if you’re alone and would like to join me, please just dm me. #disarmthepolice #defundthepolice #blacklivesmatter https://www.instagram.com/p/CA_ABqil8ug/?igshid=38kkrs1bdlfy

🤔🤫 What is the point in this?? So you’d like to pull the funding for police departments without any mention of disarming these said police. Private funding can be issued to any corporation without ANY say so from a citizen you guys do understand this right? We have no right to interfere in the practices of privately funded companies. Leaving a group of already entitled people with guns after you’ve taken their bread and butter WILL most certainly result in more deaths and more NOT GIVING A FCUKS! #payattention #think #bewise #stayaware #awakenthedead #mindbender #defundthepolice #disarmthepolice #fuckthepolice #cops #thelies #civicduty #citizens (at Los Angeles, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBeTjRplob_/?igshid=13w6vqsiz0uvo

We have always advanced through protest, through acts of defiance weither raising a fist or taking a knee... Let's make sure that we follow through with lasting legislation and a change of policing, police policy, and police procedure. #blacklivesmatter #disarmthepolice #raiseafist #swayart (at The United States of America) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBMhGYPJb5gZx98XL8Th-AQhI_Fb9NXpnIUFmY0/?igshid=118jwcn7xnrg0

Sample email to ask the Director of the Office of Management and Budget for the Mayor of New York to #DEFUNDTHENYPD:
Hello,
My name is [name], and I am a resident of [city, state]. I am asking you to call an emergency council meeting and deny the mayor's proposed budget. I would like money to be directed away from the NYPD and into social service programs such as libraries, recreation centers, community gardens, childcare and community centers, and mental health services as well as towards liveable wages and food security. It is crucial that this meeting is called because police are currently being paid overtime for current protests.
Thank you,
