Meet the Dirt Camp Devo Team
Starting a new team is never easy, and starting one during a global pandemic is even more difficult. After years of racing together, Carson Beckett, Jerry Dufour, Eli Kranefuss and Sandy Floren decided to take the reins of their own team. They knew that by combining forces, they would continue to push each other to become better racers, and they were also motivated to help up and coming racers. What they formed in early 2020 was the brand new Dirt Camp Devo team.

Having met while racing for the Bear National Team, the quartet knew their time was running out as they approached the age limit for being part of Bear. Branching off has allowed them to dial in their program to what keeps them motivated for racing. Mainly focusing on cross country mountain biking, they dabble in gravel and cyclo-cross racing, too.

Dirt Camp Devo gives them a platform to work with young riders just starting out. “We wanted to share the kind of mentoring we got at Bear with others,” said Beckett. “What we learned at Bear was invaluable, and sharing that only makes the sport better””.
“What the pros told us over the years meant so much to us - from riding tips to learning how to cook good food in a hotel. Some of it is a very niche kind of knowledge that you only learn by traveling from race to race,” said Kranefuss. “We want to teach all those things to new racers. The way we thought best to share that was to work with kids whose parents couldn’t travel to races with them. We would rent a house and then help those who stay with us prepare for the races.”

“Right now there are a few camps, but they’re very small and hard to get into. So, we wanted to add more to this space by offering camps that happen before major races. We make sure their bikes are working great, feed them food that’ll keep power in their legs and work through the best way to ride the upcoming race.”

With very little racing happening in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, Dirt Camp Devo is transitioning into doing more coaching remotely. And rather than doing endless intervals with few races on the horizon, they’ve been focusing on doing longer rides for fun.

“Regardless of whom we end up racing for in the future, we want to give back to the cycling world since it’s given us so much,” said Dufour.. “Dirt Camp Devo is more than just race results.”
Back when Dirt Camp Devo was forming and looking for sponsors, they knew they wanted to work with BikeFlights.com. “We had used BikeFlights.com for years and knew how much it impacted our racing. Making it easier to get our bikes and gear to races is sweet. Saving us money with our travel makes it so we can enter more races, too”.

Right now each team member is at their respective homes training in the hopes of future races. They are making sure to stay safe and socially distance when riding with friends. To learn more about Dirt Camp Devo, check them out on their Instagram or YouTube channel.
