I don’t know how people keep missing the point in ‘Dinner in America’.

Patty isn’t “weird and quirky” she’s ND. And it’s ok if you don’t like Simon’s character because we’re not really supposed to. The point is that no matter what disability you have or how you are as a person there’s ALWAYS someone out there who’s gonna love you. Simon didn’t water himself down and Patty loved him that way and he made sure to always reassure her and never made her feel “dumb” or too much. They remained the same only now they had each other.

I need more movies like this, it was so fun and comforting. Kyle gallner and Emily skeggs did an amazing job and made the characters feel so real and intimate.

Dinner in America is a critique on American (specifically midwestern) suburban life and the nuclear family, as well as a nod to the white 90s punk scene. Of course I love the rom com aspects of the story but reducing it to that misinforms new audiences.

Please allow/listen to/absorb critiques of this movie’s use of slurs and prejudice.

Real marginalized voices should always come first.

I just finished watching dinner in America and oh my god!!!:!:&/8,!/@ that was honestly my favourite rom com I’ve ever seen, in my opinion it’s a perfect way of capturing romance in weirder ways and I think it was the perfect mix of weird cute and gross.

Immediate favourite! Definitely recommend

Everyone loves the part where Simon tells Patty they’re gonna visit the pet store and then she wants to play hoops first and he just lets it happen but what really gets me is when he finds the cat and she asks him if he thinks she’s cool and he keeps saying no but finishes with “im fucking with you again”. Hes so star struck by her.
