The weirdest kind of crack fix it AUâs just popped into my head. Imagine if Snow was knocked into a coma by the arena bombings and the events of TBOSAS and all the works in this franchise are just his fever dream while his body fights to keep him alive.
While heâs out, the mentors all grow close to their tributes and Felix manages to convince his dad that the games are bad actually. That Gaul is not all there mentally and will be a bigger danger to the people of the capitol than any of the tributes could ever hope to be and that the bombings couldâve been caused by anyone so which should they weigh heavier? The hypothetical rebels that may or may not have done this, or the woman everyone can clearly tell is some kind of unhinged. Not the fun kind either. The president agrees and while Snow is in the hospital all the tributes get rich friends to help out their families and on some level their districts so their lives are a lot less difficult.

âIâm sick of itâ James Hetfield x Fem!Reader!
Part 3!
TW: Mentions of toxic S/O and abuse. Pls be wary of these fields. If youâre not comfortable with reading this content pls donât hesitate to scroll past. ďżźThank you! â¤ď¸đ (GIF below is indeed mine. I didnât know you could make them without being verified.)ďżź
Description: Lots of dialog and fluffiness.
Circa 1984 James
I had just gotten in my car and was on my way home. I couldnât stop thinking about him. About James. Oh my god was he gorgeous, and he has my number! What if he calls tonight? What if he doesnât? What if he doesnât call at all? Shit. I donât think I took my antidepressants this morning. Iâve had to take them since I got away from my ex. ďżźChris Meyer. Son of a bitch left a mark on my brain for a life time. God, itâs been so ďżźquiet for the past year. Maybe, if it works out with James, Iâll finally be safe from his torment. Hm, I wonder what would happen if James ever meets Chris. I sure as hell donât want to see that dill weed ever again. I hope that asshole is rotting weâre ever he is. With all of theseďżź scenarios running through my head, I didnât even realize I had pulled onto my apartmentâs street. Huh. I should do that more often, itâs like time travel.
I had dragged my feet up the flight of stairs onto my floor still thinking about every little detail that happened tonight. I saw an amazing band, met them, met the hot singer, gave him my number, and blew a kiss to him. I had reached my door searching for my keys in my purse. I fiddled with them for a minute before finding the right one. The door unlocked and I threw my stuff down, kicked my boots off and headed to my bathroom for a shower. Just the thought of warm water hitting my body was already so relaxing. Before I could even open the door to my room, my phone rang. I gasped, what if itâs James? Well Iâm not gonna sit here and wait for someone else to answer it.
âHello, Y/L/N resistance.â I answered joyfully, just like I always did but this time with an excited smile on my face.
âHey Y/N/N itâs Richie! I was just calling to make sure that you got home safe.â Of course, I did always have a problem getting my hopes up, according to Chris.
âOh. Thanks Rich, I made it home safe.â I managed to get out those few words but unfortunately they sounded a little defeated.
âNo problem! Iâll talk to you later and have a good day at work!â
âSure thing, Rich. Byeâ I hung up. A bit down, I needed that shower more than ever. Before I took another step the phone started to ring once again. Mr. Richie is a very forgetful person, I bet he wants to know when Iâll be back.
âYes? What is it you forgot now, Rich.â I said a bit sarcastically. He hated it when I make fun of him forgetting something.
ââŚum actually itâs James? Uh, James Hetfield. Did I punch in the right number?â He said questioning his dialing skills. He did call! And I answered so rudely! Damn it! Say something!
âOh my god, Iâm so sorry! Richie called me just now and I thought it was him again. I didnât expect you too call so soon.â I said very apologetically. Play it cool girl, play it cool.
âAh, nope just me calling to bother you.â
âOh come on, youâre not bothering me. You just missed me didnât you.â I said jokingly, we did just meet after all.
âYouâre right.â He said. âI canât stop thinking about you Y/N, youâre so cool and confident.â
Is he talking about me? Here I thought every emotion I felt tonight was on my sleeve but I guess not. Good job me.
âMe? Cool and confident? I can think of 20 people that are way cooler than me.â I now have my fingers linked in the phone cord, âThat includes you.â He audibly pausedďżź for a split second.
âYou think Iâm cool?â He asked, a little surprised.
âOf course I do! âYouâre one of the coolest people Iâve ever met!â I said trying to counter attack his ďżź self-esteem.
âIâm not the coolest?â
âSorry but that spot is reserved for Mr. Richie.â I said holding back a laugh. My joke made James laugh though, such a cute laugh. âYouâre so handsome when you laugh.â
âAw, youâre just saying that.â He said doubting me once again.
âNope. Sorry to say, but you have a terminal illness that makes you so handsome and effects the ones around you.â He laughed again a little harder this time. Damn those butterflies.
âYour smile almost knocks me out every time.â He said very genuinely. Now, it was my turn to second guess his judgement.
âStop. I know you know how to sweet talk people! Youâre doing it right now with a shit eating grin on your face!â I said chuckling a bit. James laughed too.
âHaaha, no way! Iâm speaking from the heart, Y/N!â He said trying to keep a serious tone.
âHow would I know? I canât see that youâre being serious.â I said tempting him.
âFine. Meet me at Richieâs bar tomorrow at 4:00pm so we can walk to the record store. Iâll tell you then how serious I am!â He said, well this time I believed him.
âOk! Ok, if you insist Hetfield, 4:00 on the dot. You better not back out!â
âNot a chance! Well, I guess I should let you go now, you have work in the morning right?â Shit! Whatâs the time? 12:00am! No!
âOh my god, no! Itâs 12:00am! I have to punch in at 6:00am. Fuck!â I said a little to angrily. I didnât mean it towards James but it seemed like he took is a little personally.
âOh no! Iâm so sorry Y/N, this is my fault. I should have waited until tomorrow.â He said very regretfully.
âNo, no, this is not your fault! Iâm really glad and kind of relieved that you called! I thought you saw me as just some other girl who threw themself at you in another town. I should be apologizing.â
âYouâre glad?â He asked surprised.
âYes. I am.â I said very firmly.
âAre you sure?â
âYes!â
âWell, Iâm really glad you answered. Iâll let you get some sleep, Y/N. Goodnight.â He said with what seemed like one of his famous smiles.
âHeh, thanks. Goodnight, Jamesâ I heard him hang up. I loudly sighed and collapsed on my couch. There is no way in hell Iâm sleeping tonight. Looks like Iâll only be getting 4 or less hours of sleep. Worth it.
That morning at 5:00am, my alarm disturbed my sleep to tell me itâs time to get ready for work. Since I didnât have time to take a shower last night, I took one as soon as I got out of bed waking myself up for the day. Brushed my teeth, flossed, and swished around mouth wash. It felt like a green color kind of day. So, I went with some light green scrubs and sneakers. Put on a little make up, made some coffee, grabbed my purse and headed to my car all the while still thinking about my date later at 4:00pm. This 8 hour shift is definitely going to be long but thank god itâs only 8 hours.
END OF PART 3!
A/N: Thank you again for the likes and for reading my first series. Remember, Iâm always open to ďżź criticism so let me know! I will be working on part 4 as soon as I finish some chores around my house that Iâve been ignoring đŹđŹ. Thatâs from me! Have an awesome day! â¤ď¸đ

SuperDad ă Kim Taehyung
âĄpairing: taehyung x oc âĄ
âĄword count: 1,962 words âĄ
âĄwarnings: it's honestly too cute, taehee is a sweetheart, this isn't a warning but just an adherence to everyone the OC is a person of color, i'll probably make a part two to go about all the details of how taehyung and taehee handled the 48 hours without alyssa, OH and taehee cried seeing his mom leave, just about it. mentions of taehyung not being around as much as he wants to. mentions of what seems to be separation anxiety. âĄ
âĄgenre: established relationship, dad au, idol!tae, fluff, taehee is a cutie you just wanna keep, Inspiration from the return of superman âĄ
âĄsummary: taehyung's back from tour and ready to spend the next two days, with his son, taehee. without his mother there, of course because it's show protocol. âĄ
âĄa/n: i got inspired by the many dad aus i see and read, like omg they are honestly so cute. also got inspired by reading a fic/ one-shot of jaehyun being on the return of superman with his wife and child and that was the C U T E S T. hope you guys enjoy, also, i added gifs as dividers because i did this on my phone and this is kinda long. credits to all the owners of each gif used âĄ
the camera pans in on a sort of empty living room, a wolf gray sofa sat in front of the equivalently colored wall, a small black squared table is there beside it, and along it is a picture that is covered by a cute emoticon.
littered around the vast space are various cream colored tents, with camera lenses peaking out, various fingers and hands holding them. the camera then passes over to the television, sat on a small drawer, that has glass doors, littered with many DVDs and vinyls, and the seemingly 75" television is off, unsurprisingly.
it then shows the kitchen, monochromatic colors is the aesthetic it seems, as a modern black gas stove is there, with the gray smart refrigerator alongside the counter that separates the two appliances. there is a four slot toaster and a kettle on the aforementioned counter, and a little magnetic knife strips which held all the knives, tongs and spatulas that are often used. the cabinets are a brilliant pearl color, various cute stickers decorate it, some looking old and torn and others looked like they just came out the pack.
it then shows the lounge room and a bedroom respectively, before a dark room comes into view. the emcees had already asked if there was a new superman for the show, and wondered who the new family was. they adored the little height chart on the door casing, and the little furniture and things here and there. they even tried to figure out what the shelf of things were, since it was covered with another cute emoticon.
â˘~â˘
back in the room, a little head peaks up at the sound of the doorbell ringing, looking left and right, probably trying to figure out what century it was. then the phone rang and the little human grabs the cellular device in their hands, knuckle sliding it over, and it amazes the emcees.
in the cutest voice the little human could muster, they answer the phone.
"good morning, hello?" the little guy answers in english, and the emcees are practically digging all of this up.
the voice then answers, but the words is silenced. it then shows as the hair of the tiny human bounces, the phone is dropped, footfalls are quiet, yet swift, and the door to the room opens. the tiny human can be slightly seen, and they run out, before running back to close the door.
various camera angles appear, for how fast the little one is running past everything, and the human passes the living room area, taking a left, and then a right and stands in front of the door, then he moves to the little crate beside it and sits patiently. after a few seconds, it opens, and a tall man enters the apartment with a few suitcases and a duffle bag, another cute emoticon doing it's job as it hides the man's face.
the human is practically bouncing on the crate at this point, his round, yet sharp eyes creasing up, his tiny white teeth on display as his arms frail around. the man rests down his luggage, before pretending he can't see the smaller male, and looks around for said human being.
"dad!" the small boy shouts, and the emoticon is finally off of the male's face as he smiles, the signature boxy grin his fans has come to love is on display as he picks up the little rascal, and whisper shouts a little "taehee!" just as enthusiastically as the child had to his father.
the emcees are shocked, like genuinely, you could hear it in the way they go "waaaaaa. it's bts' v!" and it switches again, showing the superstar, alongside his glowing son, and a pregnant lady beside him.
the lady is a mixture of slim and thick, her thighs all packed and gracious as it presses on the seat and shows beneath the fabric of her dress. said dress is long, with a flowy skirt and a sort of baggy top, black as the base with various flowers, colored rose pink and sky blue, along the skirt, past the waist, and some on the top. the belly she sports is a big one, and she look like she was ready to pop in no time. her hair was dark brown and kinky, with golden brown tips as the curl pattern shows perfectly, resting on her back. her light brown eyes get lost behind her lids as she smiles, her nose is scrunched up, smile lines along the eyes and her lips is outstretched, the craters in her face deepens, the dimples popping out perfectly, and the little boy shows his own.
her caramel skin glows, just like her aura is, and the boy glows equally with his honey toned skin as well, as he sits on his father's lap, both of them rubbing her stomach.
"hello everyone, i'm Kim Taehyung, aka V from BTS and this is my family."
Q: How old is your kid?
"He's two and a half years old, but if we're gonna get technical, he's 30 months."
Q: How long have you two been married?
"Four years. We've been together for five, and got married a year into the relationship because i couldn't resist her in the slightest."
"Lol, likewise."
"I told you stop saying LoL out loud lyssa. it's outdated by now."
"iT's oUtDaTeD bY nOw. i do what i want tae."
the questions and the bantering went on for another minute and a half, taehee getting in on it to, and him and his mother verbally gangs on taehyung, causing him to pout.
"we were actually kind of hesitant to be on the show. for many reasons, obviously, but mainly because we weren't sure if we wanted taehee, taesung and taeri in the public eye as yet. or at all. i wanted to show them on my own time, wanted to wait until they were old enough to understand this world to decide whether or not they wanted to be known as our children. after a while, and with the help of my hyungs, jiminie and kookie, we decided to take part in it anyways. we hope you guys take care of us."
Q: Woah, you guys are having twins?
"Haha, yes. we found out during the gender reveal that the doctor forgot to tell us we were having two babies. good thing we planned to always buy double the clothes and necessities for whenever i get pregnant. i say that because this little beast is unpredictable."
â˘~â˘
the video then switches back to the house, with taehee and taehyung sitting on the couch, the television on, with them watching a show, taehee swaying from side to side with the music, taehyung singing along quietly, and they watch the show until lyssa exits from the room and pecks both of their foreheads, before going straight to the jĂš,kitchen.
she tells alexa to play an older song by her husband's group, and the intro plays as soon as the show finishes, taehee immediately running into the kitchen to help and sing along to the song. meanwhile, taehyung is in the living room, his phone in front of his face as he smiles softly, both him and the person he's seemingly on the call with is silent as they listen to the two on their seemingly daily routine.
"you want to help make the pancakes dylan?" lyssa asks in english to her son, and he peeps an excited 'yes mama' over the voice of hoseok and his rap for hold me tight.
she smiles at him, and they make the pancakes from scratch, him calling out the ingredients in english, and she helps him in pronounciation and correcting his mistakes with a chuckle and a smile. while the pancakes are frying, she kindly asks taehyung to go to the store at the end of the corner to get some hershey's cookie n creme chocolate bars and a jar of dill pickles for her cravings.
she makes sure they all eat, before getting ready and going to head out for the allocated forty eight hours set. taehee follows her like a little duckling as she slightly waddles through the living room, with a purse on her shoulder, and she shoves the car keys in the bag, before turning around and ruffling his hair.
"be a good boy for mama, okay? you get to spend two whole days with papa and your uncles! isn't that fun?" taehee does seem happy, but you can tell, deep behind his nod, he is secretly praying that alyssa doesn't go. that she stays with both of them for the two days, just like old times, but she had let him watch the show, and he knows that's not the case. when she turns to leave, taehee grabs the hem of her dress, and she turns around, meeting his sharp cognac eyes, and it looks like he was trying his best not to cry.
"oh, dee, c'mere," she starts, lifting him up in her arms as the tears finally fall. she knew her taehee as a strong boy, but there are times where he can't help, but cry. dad was always to the company or on tour for as long as taehee knew him, so he built a special relationship with his mom. he knew he promised her to be strong, and to be a big boy, for when she was going to leave, but he hopes, that two days doesn't turn into a long time, like dad sometimes does.
"now what did we discuss dee?"
"th-that i w-was gonna be a b-big boy. th-that i w-was gonna stay w-with dad un-until mama g-gets back."
"right, we did agree to that, but you look like you wanna come with me. do you want to come with me, or are you gonna make me proud and spend time with papa? he misses you, you know. every day, he calls, sometimes when you're asleep and he always tells me how he can't wait to come home and have you by his side. do you wanna let papa down? let mama down? let your uncles down? or are we gonna be a big boy and be on our best behavior to make mama, papa and uncles proud?"
"i'm gonna be a big boy. i'll stay with dad and we'll have so much f-fun mama, you'll want to come back."
"i'm sure of it dee. now, papa is in the room waiting for snuggles. you know how to work the phone, so call me whenever. okay?"
"okay mama. i love you lots!"
"i love you more than lots!"
"i love you more than your lots! have fun mama, but not too much fun or i'll be mad at you."
alyssa gasps, pouting a bit, before smiling once taehee plants a big fat kiss on her cheek and smush them together like she does to him. they smile at each other, before she rests him down, and she waves at him until she is nowhere to be seen, exiting the door and off to go about her day. taehee rushes inside the room, knocking on the door, before opening it in at the sound of 'come in' and smiles at his dad, running and climbing up the bed to lay beside his dad as he talks to uncle jin.
"oh, it's little tae! how's it going buddy?" jin asks, from the other side of the phone, and taehee smiles, the dimples making another appearance, before answering his uncle. taehyung looks at his son, eyes glimmering with pure love, as he thinks that he can finally spend time with his son.

Abominations Donât Have Friends.
He could see the brown of the wood floor, followed by another fade to black before just as quickly the vision of the wooden floor of his family home had returned, it almost seemed as if it were a painting, more than the familiar wood floor he had grown to know. Like it had been smeared on, blurry, rather than clear or real. Again, his vision faded to black. All he could hear for a the longest time was the ringing in his ears, but beneath that, there was whispering. Someone, no, not someone. His parents? Josette? All three? He could hear them talking toward one another. Josette had sounded a bit whiny. The side of his head that had been against the wooden floor had felt odd, a dull sting pulsing out over it...there was a strange, wet warmth stretching around the side of his face. Then his mind faded back to black, everything he could see following the same. But again he was pulled back to reality as the whispering continued, another woman's voice, outside of Josette's, asked if someone was dead. Twitching, as if on cue, Kai attempted to move.
Pushing his right hand out he focused on just moving. Picking his head up from off the floor just an inch or so before dropping back down. Joshua spoke then, telling the other two voice that whoever they were talking about was breathing. Closing his eyes again, Â the darkness remained longer, this time. But he could still hear the voices, Joshua's had almost seemed disappointed by the fact that whoever they were talking about was still alive. Kai could have grinned, knowing they were talking about him, then. Then nothing but darkness and silence followed. Maybe for the longest time, though if he thought back some time later he could have sworn he remembered a visit to the hospital. His left arm being wrapped up since it had been broken. The side of his head being stitched since it had been split open. It all had come to him in a blurred, slowly falling apart memory. By the time he was able to keep himself stable enough to be present instead of fading into the background of his own head, Kai was watching something on tv. Joey had been chatting away to him.
It had appeared, to him at least, that he had been being given something for his head. Blinking, he looked toward the cartoon that was currently on tv, watching ThunderCat's. Blinking as Mumm-Ra was talking, he stares at the villain's insignia. It was Cobra's. At least he had thought so. Either way, it had reminded him of another favorite of his, The Karate Kid. Blinking, Kai swallowed, before turning his head and looking toward his brother who was still chatting before noticing then that Kai was staring at him and a small 'oh', left him before he shut up again. Kai watched till the episode had ended before standing and moving to leave the room. At least he was able to watch the rest of it without his younger brothers mindless chattering. Entering the kitchen he moved toward the fridge. Opening it he looked around for something to drink, soon taking out a soda, though paused and quickly put it back quickly. He wasn't feeling in the mood to drink soda. Moving then he went to where his father had kept the alcohol, then.
The then fourteen year old proceed to make himself an Adios Motherfucker, which had been the color of one of his favorite colors. As he finished making that drink he scrunched his nose. He hadn't been very interested in drinking such things, before. But he had suddenly just gotten a craving it seemed. Taking another drink he smacked his lips before nodding, he liked it, he supposed. Still, most of him didn't care about it but why should he have waited to drink when he was destined to die at twenty two. He knew that, he had to accept that. But mostly he knew he should enjoy life while he still had one of his own. Pulling away then he carried the drink back into the kitchen and started taking out things for him to make for a meal, so he could eat. Taking out some salmon he de-thawed it in the warm water he had filled the sink with. Using one arm made things a bit slower for him but he was still determined to get something to eat. Kai had no interest in waiting for his mother, or anyone else to make something. Nor did he wish to make anything for anyone else.
When his water began to boil he poured some noodles into it. Letting those soften, Kai moved to take his salmon out and cut off one end before slipping the salmon out of the packet. Leaving the salmon out on the plastic he moved to look for a knife. Searching for one he needed before hearing Joey ask if he was making them food "You want something to eat, Joey? Hm?" Kai then asked, grinning at his little brother as he opened up another drawer and reached into it. Joey nodded, smiling cutely at him before saying that yes, he was hungry and didn't know when anyone else would be returning home " So it's just been me and you, huh?" Joey shook his head saying that their other three siblings were just off playing outside "Oh. Huh." Kai looked back toward the drawer and took out a knife, pointing it toward his little brother "And so they just left you here, huh. With me, t-t-t." Kai shook his head, seeing his brother flinch back then, as Kai have moved closer to the young boy. Joey then said that their mother asked for Joey to keep an eye on Kai.
Kai blinked " Is that right, you, little Joey, going to keep an eye on me?" Kai glared a bit toward the younger boy who had smile and nodded, saying he was being very responsible, but frowned suddenly realizing that he had forgotten something. Then asked Kai if his head had still been hurting, because they had pain killers for him. Kai pointed the knife into Joey's face then, the tip soon sliding along the other boys flesh " Why don't you take those pills, Joey." The teen muttered before turning away then, realizing he had scared the other a little more than he wanted to...he...didn't want to. Did he? Â Blinking, he went back to his salmon and Joey turned, running away from him. Gulping, Kai swallowed down the thick feeling in his throat, forcing himself to become numb to it. A good way to get over it, he had found was to focus on chopping up the salmon for his meal. Â Some time later his dinner was finished. Setting it at the empty dinner table, in his usual spot he moved to take his eat, sticking a fork in the bowl of smoked salmon carbonara with lemon and dill.
As he was enjoying this delicious meal, of which he was kind of proud of having made, all by himself, and having it turn out so good, his parents returned home. He could hear his mother asking where he was, and Joey replying that he was in the kitchen making something. Kai glanced over a moment later when she had turned the corner, eying him suspiciously as she slowly entered with Joshua closely behind " Hi, Mom, Dad-" Kai greeted as he lifted his drink up and sipped from it. Joshua narrowed his gaze on his eldest son before asking if he got into his drinks "Yeah. I figured, why wait, you know. Because, I'll be dead in a handful or so of years." Joshua walked over before being stopped by his wife, who had smiled toward her son and asked if he had made dinner for the rest of the family. Kai blinked, looking confused at them " What family?" He then dared to ask them before going back to eating and ignoring them. Joshua had almost lost his temper with Kai completely before his wife had told him to calm down and suggested that Kai was probably still having problems since falling over the banister on the second floor stairwell.
Looking toward them then, he narrowed his eyes "Yeah. I fell, no one pushed me." Kai then muttered before slurping up some more noodles. Joshua walked in closer to the younger Parker and set some stuff on the table before commenting that that's what had happened. Reminding Kai of how clumsy the other was, even going so far as to remind him of his 'accidents' he would have as a boy " You mean the times you beat me for touching Jo, or one of you? Hm? Those times I was clumsy?" Kai asked before Joshua slammed a hand to the kitchen table and warned Kai, under his breath, very sternly that he was treading a line he should not cross. Kai blinked, then looked away " Sorry. I- You're right. I am still feeling a bit off." Kai glanced away then, the emboldened mood he had been feeling that evening melting away under Joshua's tone. Joshua then told him to take his dinner and go to his room. As Kai was going to do that he reached out to take his drink before Joshua pulled it away and told him no. Glaring for a moment, Kai and Joshua stare each other down before Kai relents and grabbed up his plate.
Once in his room he lightly complained about how he had to get over being worried about what Joshua would do to him if he stepped too far out of line. But he already knew what Joshua was capable of, having already experienced most of it first hand several times in his life by that point. But he had also, briefly anyway, recognized the mood swing. The anger that he had once been able to keep at bay was breaching the dam he had formed in his head, crashing over the sides, cracking it under it's weight. Though he could not remember why he had fallen from that banister, he had known that because of that fall, something had changed. His mind was somehow different, or at least more willing to let that anger through. Clearing his throat he placed the bowl on the bedside table and moved to sit on his bed. Realizing even more that he didn't care about the dam breaking, but what had really bothered him was pointing that knife at Joey. On some level he had recognized a small desire to hurt the other. However, he had resisted, then. Of course Joey would also tell his parents about it.
That is in fact what Joey had done, unaware of the consequences of this action that would come later on. Over the next couple of months Joshua had set up appointments for Kai to be evaluated. Several indicators were found for several things. Joshua seemed to have felt validated by this discovery as well as had taken it upon himself to see to it that with whatever Kai had been diagnosed with and the medications that they had decided on having him take was going to be enforced by the older Parker. Each day, at the designated times Joshua would barge in on Kai, no matter what he was doing, and make him take his medication. One day, Kai had brought some friends from the local school over, it was because they had needed to work on a project. Pointing into the living room, he grinned as one boy asked about his family " Oh. Uhm. They are busy. I think. So they won't be bothering us." Moving on then, he sighed a little bit, wishing that the other two had more room in their own homes so that he didn't have to bring them back to his house.
As one boy asked if his family was really that weird he paused, considering his answer "Nah. They aren't all that weird. They are...Just, very private." Kai defended lightly as he walked into his room " And this is my room-" Moving toward one side he pat a hand against the desk that was there " I'll keep our project right here." He informed, just liking feeling normal for the moment. He had always enjoyed staying as far away from his family home as he possibly could, simply because it had felt right, when he was around other people. They weren't afraid to touch him. Or simply be nice to him, he had liked that quite a lot, he found, just being treated like a person who mattered. Instead of an abomination. It didn't completely numb his burning need to have magic. But it filled an entirely different need he had entirely just to be wanted, to be liked. Even if by others he went to school with. He was pretty well liked in school, most kids finding him to be silly. The three boys had started work on the school project then. Kai had struggled a bit, having a broken arm. One of the boys pat his shoulder then telling him he could take it easy.
Kai looked over toward the other boy and nodded "Ah hah. Yeah, sorry, just wanted to be of help." Then he moved back a bit letting the other two do a lot of the heavier or more active lifting. Then one of the boy's had asked how his arm broke " Oh, you know how it is. Rough housing I guess." Just then the other boy had brought up the stitching and asked if that was also caused by the same thing "Mhmm." His eyebrows furrowing then, he started to remember something from that day, Josette yelling at him and shoving him back, yelling about how he was terrible before ripping a Nerf gun out of his hands and throwing it away. Taking a moment to then look at her self in the mirror before whining about him giving her a black eye. Kai blinked, his memory of that moment starting to die out as he remembered himself saying something along the lines of 'A black eye is the least of your problem because you are just plain ol' ugly'. Though he never got to finish saying that, and everything had gone black. Coming back to the current moment one of the boys frowned and asked if he were alright " Ah- Yeah. Fine. Just remembering something from a while back." Kai cleared his throat then and moved to help the two with their school project.
Around dinner time is when Joshua had come back home. Making his way up to Kai's room the other opened the bedroom door before asking Kai who had given him permission to have guests over " No one. Their places were too small." Joshua narrowed his eyes, but seemed to accept it. Moving in then he looked at the project before then looking toward Kai and asking if he had taken his pills that afternoon. Which Kai looked a bit shocked about, looking toward his friends before looking toward Joshua "No. I forgot." Kai had informed Joshua crossed his arms over his chest and then told Kai to take his pills, now, rather than later. Standing up then he moved toward the door before turning back toward his friends "Sorry about that, I'll be back, just wait right there." Leaving with Joshua, soon he was finishing taking his medication in front of the other before going back to his room. He could hear the two boys whispering then, about how one of their aunts was 'crazy' and also had to take pills. Frowning then Kai sighed before entering the room as the pair started talking about leaving. Seeing Kai they smiled at him. Before then saying it was late and that they probably needed to get back home.
Nodding then, Kai watched them as they started to head for the door "Alright. I'll keep this here-" He pointed toward the desk then "And we can work on it again tomorrow." The two nodded and told him goodbye before leaving. A few moments later, Joshua came back into the room and started to tease Kai about the fact that those boys would not be coming back " You don't know them." Kai muttered before the older Parker nodded and then glanced away, mentioning he knew what children were like. Once you were outed as the freak you were, they would turn on you. Kai swallowed "But you're the freaks?" As Joshua stepped into the room, Kai watched his father, shrinking a bit as the older man approached him, leaning down and getting his face in Kai's before grabbing the other's jaw with his right hand, forcing Kai to look at him and reminding his young son that he was, in fact, an abomination. No one would ever truly be his friend. Staring at Joshua, Kai blinked, a bit hurt. He then jerked his head away from his fathers grip, looking away as he thought about it. Joshua smiled down at his son, knowing that Kai might have thought that about himself, as well. Then he turned and left the room, leaving Kai to think about how worthless or unwanted he was.

movie night
pairing âš kim namjoon x reader
genre âš fluff
word count âš 1k
request âšÂ I would love a dabble where you and namjoon are having a horror movie marathon one night and he just ends up getting really scared and soft.
You had made it a weekly thing with your boyfriend Namjoon. He would come over and cuddle on your couch watching movies. You would make popcorn, surprising him with the flavor you made it. Tonight was dill pickle. You werenât sure if he was going to like it but you thought youâd give it a try.
He was sitting on the couch, scrolling through Netflix, looking for something he wanted to watch. You walked into the living room, setting the giant bowl of popcorn on the coffee table. Namjoon looked at you with a smile. âWhat kind is it tonight?â He always asked the question, knowing he wasnât going to get an answer.
âI guess, youâll just have to try it.â You grinned, pinching a piece between your fingers and plopping it in his mouth.
Namjoon chewed it, he made a disgusted face. âEw, what is that?â
âDill pickle. Do you not like it?â
âGod no. I want my ketchup back,â he said with a pout.
You bopped his nose, giving him a cute eye smile. âWell, this is what you get for today. Sorry, Joon.â
âUgh, fine.â He went back to flipping through Netflix, becoming less hopeful as he moved on to each new section. âI swear, Netflix has everything you donât want to watch.â
You watched the screen closely, seeing if there was anything that might interest you. Namjoon had just finished searching the dramas section, next was horror. But he skipped right past it, right onto comedy. âWait a second,â you stopped him, âWhy didnât you check horror?â
Namjoon looked at you with wide eyes. He looked like he wanted to say something but couldnât. âBecause,â he said as if you knew exactly what he meant.
âBecauseâŚ?â
He sighed. âIâm scared, okay? I hate horror movies.â He shivered as he spoke like even the thought of a horror movie scared him.
You laughed at the sight of your always composed boyfriend turning into a melting ball of nerves. It was really cute if you were being honest. âOh, come on. Theyâre not that bad.â
Namjoon nodded, his eyes looking at you like âduhâ. âUm, thatâs a lie.â
You pushed him further into the couch. âOh, you wuss. Just look through, maybe there will be something good.â
Namjoon released a deep sigh. âFine, but Iâm not promising weâll watch anything.â
âDeal.â
Namjoon went back up to the horror section. Most of the movies there were shitty b-movies, made on a ten dollar budget. But as he went further, you saw a movie that you actually wanted to see. âJoon, they have A Quiet Place on here. We have you watch it.â You hit his shoulder in excitement. You had been wanting to see that movie for so long and you never got the chance to see it in theatres. You turned to Namjoon with wide puppy eyes and a tiny pout. âPretty pleaseeee. Iâve been dying to see it.â
Namjoon stared at you, pushing his lips into a line. You knew he could never resist you when you were like this. He always said you looked too cute to say no to. You could see now, he was really trying to say no, but you knew he couldnât. âOh, fine,â he breathed, instantly regretting his answer.
You snatched the remote from his hands and clicked the movie, pressing play. The entire time, the movie played, Namjoon, kept his eyes locked to the bowl of popcorn. By three quarters in, he had eaten nearly the whole thing, despite saying his hated it.
Every time, there was a jump scare, he would hop out of his spot, usually cursing. It was the only sound in the room, as the movie had nearly none. He was scaring you more than the movie was. You would jump a little every time he screamed. And when you said screamed, you meant it. His normally deep voice turning into something that could have come from a ten-year-old girl. It was pretty funny though. You knew youâd be teasing him about it later.
By the time, the movie was over and the credit began to roll, Namjoon had turned into a sweating mess. He clung onto your arm as if his life depended on it, his face hidden in your hair so he couldnât see the screen.
You peeled him off you, giggling as he came right back to holding onto you. Usually, at this time, Namjoon would start getting ready to go home, but he didnât make any sign of intending to do so. âNamjoon, itâs late. You should probably start heading home now.â
Namjoon bit down on his lips, looking at you with his soft puppy eyes. âUm, would I be able to stay here tonight?â
You had no problem with him staying over, it happened a lot. But he had a schedule tomorrow and he needed a good night sleep in his own bed. âIâm not sure if thatâs a good idea. You have to get up early tomorrow.â
âI know, I know. But Iâll sleep better if Iâm here with you.â
âIs that so?â
âUh-huh.â He kissed your shoulder after speaking, hoping like that might do that trick.
âIs it because youâre scared of being alone?â
âPhft, no,â he lied.
âOh, okay. Then I guess youâll be fine just going homeâŚâ You teased, looking away and trailing your eyes to the window.
Namjoon squeezed down on your arm, bring your attention back to him. âNo-no, please. Yes, itâs because Iâm scared. I donât want to sleep alone.â
You smiled, finally getting the answer you wanted. âAwe, thatâs sweet.â You squished his cheeks and kissed his lips. âYouâre too cute. Yes, you can stay here. But you have to promise you wonât wake me up when you get up.â
âDeal.â
Namjoon followed you to your bedroom like a puppy, never letting go of your hand. For the whole night, he basically slept on top of you, too afraid to not be touching you at any point. It would have been sweet if he wasn't practically crushing you with his tall body.
It wasnât too often when Namjoon got super cuddly like this. But you had to say, you loved it. Maybe you would have to watch horror movies more often.

hello~ are you still taking prompt? if so, i got one! prego rey craving the weirdest food combination ever (hehe, in the middle of the night!) and ben being the dearest husband he is, will do whatever it takes to satisfy his wife. btw, you're really pretty. >.
This was so cute and fun to write! Ugh, I just love fluff. Also thank you for the compliment; youâre so nice! â¤
even before the sun comes up
Read it on AO3.
The overpass was empty, and dark. Theatmosphere was foreboding and strangely, deeply lonely. I swear, at least tenstreetlights flickered as I drove beneath their eerie orange glow.
Bob Dylan was crooning about a Mr.Tambourine Man through my speakers. The flowing, warbling words seemed oddly suitedto my current situation:
ThoughI know that eveningâs empire has returned into sandâŚvanished from my hand, leftme blindly here to stand but still not sleeping. My weariness amazes me, Iâmbranded on my feetâŚ
My eyes burned with a fierce needfor sleep as they jumped over to the green numbers of my carâs radio clock.3:19 AM. The sun would be up soon. And IâŚI would be in the frozen food sectionof the 24/7 grocery store, looking for the biggest tub of pistachio ice cream Icould find. And after that, a special visit to the condiments aisle, for dillpickles. To dip in the pistachio ice cream.
Yep. Pistachio ice cream and dillpickles. âDillâ underlined three times. Thatâs what my shopping list says.
The thought of eating the twotogether makes my stomach clench and my throat want to close up. But thankfullyitâs not for me. Itâs for my wife. My Rey. My very pregnant wife, Rey.
It was a weird request, one ofseveral Iâd been tasked with over the last eight months. Oh, yeah. When I said very pregnant, I wasnât kidding.Honestly, Iâve seen the ultrasounds, and the doctor keeps telling us thereâsonly one baby in there, but Iâd be lying if I said I believed him. Iâm nottotally convinced it isnât twins. It runs in my family, after all.
But when Rey has a craving, orsomething that she needs â even just a foot rub â I will always be there tomake sure she gets it. Even before the sun comes up. No matter how weird, orrandom, or troublesome. Iâd promised her that a very long time ago. It was thefirst of many promises I made to our child.
So when sheâd rolled over in bed, gently shaken me awake, and asked for pistachio ice cream and dill pickles, there was not a chance in hell I was going to say no to her â even though I wasfairly sure at first that Iâd misheard her. I didnât hesitate.
The grocery store was almost asdead as the freeway had been, save for the one lonely cashier at the front. Apecky-looking kid, with flaming orange hair and watery blue eyes, he had hisdirty combat boots up on the desk. As soon as I walked in and he caught sightof me, he dropped them back to the floor with an indiscreet clomp.
âMorning, sir,â he greeted me.
âMmphm,â I grumbled back. It wastoo early for conversation, no matter how casual. And I was not there to makefriends.
It took me almost ten minutes justto find a container of pistachio ice cream. I was almost ready to admit defeatand go ask where they kept it when I pushed aside one more mint chocolate chipand found it. I gave it a dirty look when I pulled it out of the freezer, as ifit had wronged me somehow. In a way, I felt like it had.
I threw the dayâs newspaper downonto the till counter with my dill pickles and ice cream. As I dug my walletout of my pants pocket, I watched the cashier kid raise an eyebrow at my earlymorning choices. His eyes searched me, as though he was trying to peg me for apistachio guy, but when he caught me looking back at him he quickly averted hisgaze. Iâm usually not the type to be messed with, but I can only imagine howalarming I must look half-awake, with five oâclock shadow and horrendous bedhead.
I yawned about five times on theway back to my car, and then again when I was in the driverâs seat. I rubbed atmy eyes, trying to scrub that stubborn, burning ache away. Yes, I am tired. Yes, I can feel it in my bones. But I just have to getback home, and then I can curl up in bed next to my wife while she eats her icecream and pickles. And I will love her to death for it, even though itâs weirdand will make the bedsheets smell like dill and vinegar, because sheâs my wife, damn it. And sheâs beautiful as hell.
The house was quiet when I came inthrough the garage door. The only light source was the soft, ember glow of thenightlight in the hallway. I kicked off my shoes, dropped my jacket on thefloor, and faithfully brought the paper bag of goodies back to the bedroom.
Rey was sitting up in bed, a bookperched on top of her round belly. The porcelain lamp that looked like a Dalmatian, with the dusty pink, fringed lampshade, was turned on beside her bed. She hadpicked that gem out at a garage sale two years ago, and had since insisted onhaving it in the bedroom for good. I, of course, was powerless to say no. Icould never say no to her.
She smiled prettily at me as Iwalked in. It still made my heart flutter when she did that. Her dimples stoodout very well in the dim, shadowy bedroom. I couldnât resist smiling back.
âFor you.â I set the bag downbeside her. She quickly opened it up and pulled out the contents.
She made a squeal of glee. âThankyou so much, Ben. God, what would I do without you?â
âWell, you wouldnât be pregnant forone thing, so you would likely be able to get it yourself,â I quipped sarcastically, barely stifling a yawn.
She rolled her eyes at my poorjoke, like she always does. But there was still a smile on her face when shedid it. She thought I was kind of funny. Sometimes.
She fluttered her eyes at me and I knew whatwas coming next.
âCould you get me a spoon, please?â
I smirked, because I was right.
âOf course. But wait,â
I rushed to her side and kissedher. She blinked at me, pleasantly surprised.
âI wanted to do that before yourbreath smells like pickles and pistachios,â I explained. âYou will brush yourteeth after this, right?â
She grinned like an evilconspirator bent on my destruction.
âWe shall see,â she replied.
âFuck, youâre so hot,â I whispered, quickly stealing another kiss from her. âStop; youâre too attractive right now.Youâre making me want to try fortwins.â
âOh shut up and fetch me a spoon,âshe giggled, peeling the lid and plastic off the ice cream. She moved to thepickle jar next. âIâll use one of these babies until you get back.â
I just shook my head, laughing, andshuffled off to the kitchen to get her a spoon. When I was there, I noticed thesun was just barely starting to peak over the horizon.
I smiled, and brought her spoon toher, and watched her eat that strange combination of food, and I was so veryhappy. It didnât matter that I was tired.
I would do anything for her, anytime;even before the sun comes up.

Though âhigh teaâ as we use it today isnât the same as what Jane Austen herself would have experienced, itâs still an activity thatâs closely tied to meetings about her, or even special outings with friends and family.
Awhile back I made a high tea for my future in-laws. Iâve only taken on this task a few times and itâs always a huge undertaking, especially for more than one person, but itâs totally worth the effort once itâs done.
To clarify, what I made was an afternoon tea, which includes scones, sweets, salads and sandwiches. Thereâs a handy guide below for helping you understand the variations between âtea times.â
Check out Ahmad tea for more info.
Many of you had questions about my tea, so I thought I would put the recipes here for anyone who wants to make it. For the tea itself, I like to let people choose their own tea bags. But if everyone is ok with one kind of tea, make a pot of that to be served throughout.
These are not precise recipes, but I hope they help you if youâre looking to put on your own tea. Enjoy!
Menu
Lavender Scones
Vegetarian Chicken Salad Sandwiches
Cucumber Sandwiches
Beet Salad
Brownie Trifle Tea
Lavender SconesÂ
One packet of scone mix or ingredients to make from scratch
Clotted cream
Lemon curd
When I did this, I happened to have a packet of scone mix on me. This isnât any mix, itâs from a small company that started in Chico, California, where I went to college for my undergraduate degrees. I first spotted the Two English Ladies years ago at a farmerâs market, a table laden with lemon curd, scones and more. Iâve since moved away from Chico, but I never forgot their scones. Over the holidays I went to a local Dickenâs Fair and was thrilled to see the very same ladies I used to see at market. Theyâve expanded their line and now show up to big cities. Anyway, I couldnât resist trying their scones again, and they were lovely.
I bought clotted cream and lemon curd at local stores, but if youâre in a pinch (scone purists, turn away) jam and butter work ok.
Serve scones on tray with bowls of lemon curd and clotted cream ready to be slathered on.
Vegetarian Chicken Salad Sandwiches
Fake chicken patties (I use Morningstar)
Vegenaise
Green onions
Pickles
Fluffy but sturdy bread. I use sourdough sometimes too.
Curried chicken salad sandwiches are usually a standard for tea, but I donât eat meat! This is my take on that classic.
Cook patties, or whatever meat/meat alternative product you want. In a big bowl, put chopped green onions and pickles, then a big dollap of Vegenaise. Once patties are done, cut into chunks and put in big bowl. Mix up.
Cut the crusts off the bread, place one crust less piece on plate or board, spoon chicken salad onto it and spread evenly. Place second piece of crust less bread on top, cut in half. You can do triangles or rectangles.
Serve cutely stacked on plate.
Cucumber Sandwiches
Pickling cucumbers
Balsamic vinaigrette
Dry dill
Fluffy but sturdy bread. Cream cheese
I like to be fancy and cut four sides of the cucumber skin off. Slice cucumbers into thin slices. Put cucumber slices in large bowl, put one tablespoon of dill and one cup of vinaigrette in bowl, mix up. Put in fridge for a few hours, stir every once in awhile.
To make cream cheese spread, put softened cream cheese in bowl, sprinkle dill in a little at a time as you mix. I add about a teaspoon to one package of cream cheese, but you can do it to taste.
Take crust off bread, spread cream cheese mix on a piece of bread, stack two layers of cucumbers on slice, spread cream cheese on second slice, but on stacked cucumbers and slice away.
Serve stacked cutely on a plate.
Beet Salad
Three to four large beets
Balsamic vinaigrette
Arugula
Goat cheese
Boil beets, this could take awhile, but you want to be able to easily put a knife through it. I like to cut the large beets down into thirds to speed up the boiling process. When done cooking I pour out the boiling water and put cold water in. Once the beets are cool enough to touch the skin should slide right off. I rinse the chunks one more time before putting them in a bowl and setting them aside.
When beets are all done being prepped, cut into smaller cubes. If you want this as a cold salad, put beets in fridge. You can also have it a little warm.
In large bowl, place beet cubes, arugula (to taste, sometimes this is more of an arugula salad, sometimes itâs more of a beet salad, it just depends on the ratio) and chunks of goat cheese. Pour balsamic to taste over salad and gently mix a little. Mixing too much will make the goat cheese mix into the balsamic and form its own kind of paste.
Serve with chunks of goat cheese on top.
Brownie Trifle
Make brownies, or buy pre-made or box
Heavy whipping cream (or whipped cream if youâre lazy) Vanilla extract
Confectionerâs sugar
Raspberry jam (or whatever flavor you like)
Make brownies, cut into cubes. In chilled bowl, pour two cups of cream, add two teaspoons of vanilla and two teaspoons of sugar. (Or follow this recipe. )
When whipped cream is done set aside.
In a glass bowl, or large bowl thatâs good for presenting, layer brownies and whipped cream. I like to do just one layer of the raspberry jam because itâs usually a strong flavor. I try to make the whipped cream be a top layer so it looks cute. Serve with huge spoon to get a little of all the layers when you get a serving for people.
If youâd like to support me and my work (or see previews of my projects), please consider donating to my Ko-fi.

Easy Meal Planning Tips to Use Your CSA Share
This post is from KS contributing writer Becca Stallings of The Earthlingâs Handbook, with photography assistance from her son Nicholas Efran, age 13.
Two years ago, I wrote up a handy 5-step plan for using all the vegetables you receive in a weekly crate from a Community-Sponsored Agriculture farm. That article tells you all about how a CSA works on a subscription plan to bring you several pounds of organic, locally-grown produce every week. Hereâs a tool for finding a CSA in your area.
My family has bought a share in Kretschmann Farm near Pittsburgh every summer since 2001. Itâs fascinating to see how each vegetable appears and disappears throughout the season, from early June through mid-November. The pattern is sort of predictable, yet every year is unique.
Thatâs why Katie asked me to write another âhow to use a week of CSA veggiesâ detailing my experience in the last week of July but in a different year. As youâll see, the veggies we got this year were somewhat different than two years ago at the same time. We used the same 5 steps of veggie stewardship, and out popped some very different meals! On the other hand, the green beans found themselves in exactly the same meal as two years ago!
Not just for CSA subscribers, this strategy works anytime you have a lot of fresh produce: from your garden, from the garden of someone who likes sharing, from spotting a lot of great deals in the store or farmerâs market, from foraging, from your friend who just couldnât resist buying a case of beautiful eggplants, etc.
Quick Review: 5 Steps for Evaluating Your Veggies
When you pick up that pile of produce, ask yourself these 5 questions:
What to swap or give away?
What needs to be eaten in the next two days?
What can wait until later?
What needs to be preserved?
Whatâs the plan?
Answer the first 4, and then use your answers to develop your plan for finding each veggie a good home in this weekâs meals, in your freezer or pantry stash, or in a friendâs stomach! My previous article gives more detail on each question and tips on how to categorize.
One Weekâs Example: Our CSA Box
Iâm going to talk you through another week working through the 5 steps in our kitchen, but first Iâll have to explain our starting point.
Before This Week
Two years ago, I was able to write up our week in veggies almost with a âclean slateââsome ingredients we already had in stock came into play, but most of our meals were based around the veggies we received that week.
This year, I had decided which week I would make detailed notes about our CSA, meals, and preservationâand then, midway through the week before, I realized that the surplus of certain vegetables in that weekâs crate was pushing us into some activities that would affect the new week. Instead of a âWednesday wild cardâ dinner, the meal we cooked on the night we get our CSA was planned to use up the previous weekâs veggies! Also, we went into the week stocked up with a healthy breakfast/snack food.
Weather conditions this year have been perfect for cucumbers, zucchini, and eggplant. I have to admit we didnât do so well with last weekâs cucumbers: We ate one with hummus, we put one in a salad, our guinea pigs ate one, and we gave away twoâbut we still had 4 cucumbers that got mushy and went to the compost bin. That was really a lot of cucumbers!! We should have made Cucumber Salad, which preserves them for a couple of weeks.
Last weekâs CSA gave us an even larger volume of zucchini than cucumbers! (We got 6 zucchini vs. 9 cucumbers, but some of the zucchini were larger.)
Luckily, zucchini can be cooked or frozen (Kaite has 6 great preservation methods). I shredded all of it in the food processor, baked 4 loaves of whole-wheat zucchini bread, packed up 4-cup portions to freeze, and set aside 2 cups of raw grated zucchini. Those 6 zucchinis turned into 18 cups of shreds!
Tuesday nightâs dinner was a slightly awkward meal of zucchini pancakes and cucumber slices with yogurt-dill dip. (The dill also was from the farm, several weeks agoâwe had hung it up to dry.) My partner Daniel made the zucchini pancakes from this recipe. (It calls them âfritters,â but we thought âpancakesâ would sound more appealing to the kids.) He used sharp cheddar cheese instead of Parmesan. Heâd made them the previous week as well, and we were pleased that both kids ate them without complaintâone using ketchup and the other maple syrup!
Weâd used a big, dark-purple Italian eggplant in chili, but we still had two thin, lilac-colored Asian eggplants. One of them was curled into this cute shape that looks like an alien pet!
When we went grocery shopping Wednesday morning before seeing our new crate of veggies, I asked my 13-year-old Nicholas what we could make to use up the eggplant. He said he would cook with my help, and we would have kebabs of eggplant and onion âand more zucchini pancakes, for protein, because they have so much egg in them.â We still had a small onion left from last week, but I reminded him that we couldnât be certain weâd get more zucchiniâalthough it was likely at this time of yearâso we might have to thaw some.
Wednesday
Hereâs what we got in this weekâs CSA share!
3 cucumbers
2 Italian eggplants and 1 Asian eggplant
potatoes
carrots
4 tomatoes
kale
3 onions
green beans
2 zucchini
coffeeâOf course, that isnât grown in Pennsylvania! Kretschmann Farm has a deal with Building New Hope, a Pittsburgh non-profit that partners with coffee growers in Nicaragua. For an additional fee, we get a pound of shade-grown coffee in our CSA box once a month.
Nicholas and I started work on the kebabs: He asked me to make the pancakes while he did all the rest, occasionally asking for advice.
Your kids can learn to cook, even if you donât know where to start.
My 4 kids and I created the Kids Cook Real Food eCourse to help bring real food and independence to families all over. Over 10,000 kids have joined us and weâd love to invite you along for the adventure!

PLUS weâre so pleased to offer a little gift from our family to yours: â10 Snacks Your Kids Can Makeâ packed with our favorites for the road! GRAB THAT HERE!
I grated the smaller zucchini and adjusted the recipe to this smaller amount. I still used 1 egg and then added some breadcrumbs to soak up excess liquid. The pancakes held together pretty well, but frying them was very stressful!
I have a hard time with food that tends to burn on the outside before itâs cooked all the way through and that falls apart when you flip it. Daniel is more coordinated and less nervous than I am, so he was surprised when I thanked him so effusively for having made these before!
Meanwhile, Nicholas cut up the eggplants and tossed them with Real Salt in the colander. (This makes eggplant less bitter.) He cut the onion in big chunks and browned them in olive oil. Then he added the eggplant. He seasoned the vegetables with lemon juice, minced garlic, and bottled Tandoori Chicken Spice. He cooked them until the eggplant was soft and slightly browned.
He decided that the kebabs also should include slices of hard-boiled egg. I donât boil eggs often enough to remember the timing, so he looked it up. He assembled a variety of kebab combinations.
The kebabs were delicious! They gave us an opportunity to teach our 4-year-old Lydia how to eat a kebab safely: One hand on each end; careful of the point! Eat it like corn on the cob. Donât bite the stick!
I didnât think the zucchini pancakes were really necessary along with hardboiled eggsâI would rather have had chunks of zucchini cooked along with the eggplant and onionsâbut their flavor blended in with the vegetablesâ seasoning better than I expected.
We found that the kebabs reheated well in the toaster oven (400 degrees for 7-8 minutes) and were still good on Sunday when I finished the last ones.
Thursday
Nicholas wanted to make a salad of kale and cucumbers with strawberry vinaigrette like heâd made a couple of weeks ago. This time, he added fresh strawberries and a yellow pepper weâd just bought at ALDI.
What would go with the salad? Nicholas wanted garlic mashed potatoes (our CSA potatoes) and a can of cranberry sauce: âItâll be like Thanksgiving!â I suggested baking some fish for a Fishgiving Feast, but it was a hot day and he didnât want the oven on while he was making the salad.
Instead, he suggested fried eggs for the proteinâthose of us who like sunny-side-up eggs could put them on top of our mashed potatoes and break the yolk as âgravyâ for the potatoes. I donât think Iâd ever tried this before. It was good! But it didnât seem anything like Thanksgiving dinner, even though the cranberry sauce was a nice treat. I was feeling a little tired of eggs.
Daniel cooked the potatoes and eggs while Nicholas made the salad. By the way, if you happen to have a bag of frozen strawberries (mine were on sale at GFS!), an easy way to make strawberry vinaigrette is to thaw one big strawberry, which will become so soft that you can just mash it with a fork and mix in oil, vinegar, salt, and honey.
Friday
I cooked one of our classic favorite meals: Honey Apricot Tofu, Salty String Beans, and rice. This used up the green beans from the farm and one small onion. Hereâs Lydiaâs serving.
Saturday
We had so many leftovers that we didnât cook anything new today! I ate one of the tomatoes as a snack.
Sunday
I made Creamy Lentil Coconut Curry with Roasted Vegetables. My array of vegetables was different this time: no peppers, broccoli, or green beans, but I did have zucchini. Gosh, that was a lot of eggplant!
It was a cool day by summer standards, so I didnât mind being in the room with a 400-degree oven and a steaming saucepanâbut I was glad we had enough rice left over from Friday that I didnât have to coordinate cooking that, too!
I ended up with more than enough veggies for the curry, so I froze some for other uses of roasted veggies in the future. I also set aside a jar of raw, salted eggplant for Lydia, who loves to eat it (and refuses cooked eggplant) recently! I thought Iâd heard something about raw eggplant being dangerous to eat, so I looked it upâa person her size would have to eat 2 or 3 entire raw eggplants to have toxic symptoms, and she eats no more than about 1/4 of an eggplant at a time. Whatever she doesnât eat in the next few days, I can add to marinara sauce or anytime I want to cook up a few veggies for lunch.
Monday
Because Nicholas had made Thursdayâs salad only big enough for a side dish at one meal, we still had a lot of kale. I collected other vegetables to cook with it to make Hummus and Vegetable Flatbread Sandwiches. This time I used kale, carrots, onion, and tomato from the farm, plus a red pepper from ALDI. I also threw in a handful of that salted eggplant.
I always think I have too much kale to fit in my skillet . . . but after I put in as much as can and cook it for a few minutes, it gets much less fluffy so that Iâm able to mix in the rest of the kale.
I didnât cook the tomato at all, just diced it and put it and the cooked veggies into the sandwiches after toasting them and then pulling them apart with tongs.
We had a jar full of delicious sautĂŠed veggies left over. They make a great accompaniment to scrambled eggs for breakfast!
Recently weâve been buying white-flour tortillas at Costco because theyâre cheap and taste good, but theyâre not all that nutritious. If youâre up for making homemade tortillas, try Katieâs whole-wheat tortillas or gluten-free, gum-free whole-grain tortillas!
Tuesday
Daniel and Nicholas made Salmon Limone with Couscous and Zucchini Ribbon Salad, a recipe Nicholas had found on the Hello Fresh website earlier this summer and made once before. (You donât have to subscribe to their boxed meal kits to access their recipesâbut if you see a recipe you like, make sure to print it right away rather than plan to read it from your screen! Weâve learned that sometimes their recipes âdisappearâ from the URL where we saw them and are hard to find again!)
Ironically, although Nicholas eagerly suggested this recipe when he saw zucchini and tomatoes in our CSA box, scheduling issues pushed this meal to the end of the week when weâd already used all our zucchini and tomatoes. But when I went to our neighborhood Giant Eagle supermarket to buy them (along with the salmon, lemon, scallions, and couscous) I found great prices on zucchini and tomatoes from Brenckleâs Farm, another local organic farm that also offers a CSA. Itâs only 26 miles away; Kretschmann Farm is 28 miles from our home. So we were still eating local, organic vegetables!
This meal was delicious!
Wrapping Up the Week
How did we do with our 5 steps?
What to swap or give away? This was one week when we kept everything in our share!
What needs to be eaten in the next two days? Fresh green beans last only a short time without getting moldy. We also prioritized cucumbers, kale, and zucchini but didnât actually get through all of them in the first 48 hoursâbut we used them up within the week (see below) without anything spoiling!
What can wait until later? We still have some of the carrots and the coffee. These tomatoes were firm enough to be used late in the week but wouldnât have lasted much longer.
What needs to be preserved? Roasting and sautĂŠing more veggies than we needed for our dinners created leftovers that will keep longer than raw veggies.
Whatâs the plan? Weâd already planned the kebabs before we saw our new veggies. On Wednesday night, we planned Thursdayâs and Fridayâs dinners and the Salmon Limone . . . but meal planning for the rest of the week kind of worked out as we went along. I did make a list of the veggies before putting them away so that I could see at a glance what we needed to use.
We still had two cucumbers and some potatoes, so on the Wednesday when we got our next CSA box, our dinner side dishes were mashed potatoes and cucumbers with lemon sour cream (left over from Salmon Limone), with the main dish of soy-free veggie burgers from Trader Joeâs.
Whatâs your approach to an abundance of vegetables?
