orv brainrot has fully consumed me so here’s a fic that was written entirely on my notes app, only when I was at work cause that’s the only fucking time I ever got the inspiration or motivation to finish it. this is an unedited, incoherent mess of lists akin to those therapy lists that ppl write abt what makes them happy, and kind of incorporates a hc of mine which is that even after yjh came back from space, it took a while for kdj’s body to fully heal up and for him to wake up (bcs I enjoy angst). if you decide to read it, hope you enjoy it.
(he opens his eyes, and yoo joonghyuk is holding his hand and han sooyoung is reading to him and it’s everything, everything, everything)
or:
lists of love written by a protector, by a judge, by a librarian, by an author, by a regressor, by a dreamer
or:
a series of character studies framed as lists of the activities some members of kim dokja’s company look forward to and enjoy in the peacetime with the people they love

Harshdeep Kaur, widely known as the “Sufi Ki Sultana,” has become an emblematic figure in Indian music, captivating audiences with her mesmerizing voice and unmatched versatility. Her journey from a young girl with a dream to a celebrated playback singer is a story of passion, perseverance, and dedication to her craft. Born into a family with a musical background, Harshdeep grew up surrounded by instruments and melodies, which became the foundation of her illustrious career. This article explores her life, achievements, and the unique artistry that has earned her a permanent place in the hearts of millions.
Early Life and Musical Roots
Born on December 16, 1986, in Delhi, Harshdeep Kaur was immersed in a musical environment from an early age. Her father, Savinder Singh, owned a factory that produced musical instruments, giving Harshdeep early exposure to the sounds and rhythms that would shape her future. Recognizing her innate talent, her parents encouraged her to pursue formal music training.
At the age of six, Harshdeep began learning Indian classical music under the guidance of Tejpal Singh and Bhupinder Singh, better known as the Singh Brothers. Their mentorship introduced her to the intricate nuances of Indian classical ragas. To complement her classical training, she also explored Western music, studying under George Pullinkala at the Delhi Music Theatre. By the age of twelve, Harshdeep had enrolled in the Delhi School of Music, where she mastered the piano. This unique blend of Indian and Western influences became a hallmark of her musical style.
First Breakthroughs and Reality Show Success
Harshdeep’s first taste of national recognition came in 2003 when she won MTV’s Video Ga Ga contest, showcasing her ability to stand out in the competitive world of music. However, it was her participation and subsequent victory in the reality show Junoon — Kuch Kar Dikhaane Ka in 2008 that truly launched her career. The show, which celebrated diverse musical genres, saw Harshdeep competing in the Sufi category under the mentorship of renowned artist Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. Her soul-stirring performances captivated the judges and audiences alike, earning her the title of “Sufi Ki Sultana.”
This win not only cemented her reputation as a skilled Sufi singer but also marked her as a rising star in the Indian music industry. It opened doors to collaborations with some of the most prominent composers and directors in Bollywood.
Bollywood Career and Iconic Tracks
Harshdeep Kaur’s Bollywood journey began with the song “Sajna Mai Haari” for the movie Aapko Pehle Bhi Kahin Dekha Hai (2003). Though the song didn’t garner widespread attention, it marked her entry into the world of playback singing. Over the years, she honed her craft and worked tirelessly to make her mark.
Her first major breakthrough in Bollywood came with the song “Katiya Karun” from the movie Rockstar (2011). Composed by A.R. Rahman, the song became an instant hit, showcasing Harshdeep’s ability to infuse energy and emotion into her performances. Another milestone in her career was “Heer” from Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012), where her heartfelt rendition brought the character’s emotions to life.
Other notable songs in her repertoire include “Dilbaro” from Raazi, a poignant track that resonated deeply with listeners, and “Zaalima” from Raees, which highlighted her versatility. Her ability to sing in multiple languages, including Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, and Malayalam, has made her a favorite among composers and directors across the Indian film industry.
Coke Studio and Television Contributions
Harshdeep’s contributions to Indian music extend beyond playback singing. She is the only singer to have participated in all four seasons of Coke Studio India from 2011 to 2015. Through this platform, she showcased her adaptability, performing a diverse range of songs that blended traditional and contemporary styles. Tracks like “Hoo” and “Nirmohiya” from Coke Studio remain fan favorites.
In 2019, Harshdeep expanded her role in the music industry by becoming a coach on the reality show The Voice India. Working alongside legends like Adnan Sami and A.R. Rahman, she guided aspiring singers, further solidifying her reputation as an influential figure in the industry. Her team’s victory on the show was a testament to her mentorship skills and deep understanding of music.
Personal Life and Inspirations
Beyond her professional achievements, Harshdeep Kaur leads a fulfilling personal life. She married her childhood friend, Mankeet Singh, in 2015 in a traditional Sikh ceremony in Mumbai. The couple welcomed their son, Hunar Singh, in 2021, marking a new chapter in her life.
Despite her busy schedule, Harshdeep has remained grounded, crediting her family and faith for her success. Her deep-rooted cultural values and humility shine through in her interactions with fans and colleagues.
Legacy and Future Aspirations
Harshdeep Kaur’s journey is a testament to the power of dedication and authenticity in the pursuit of art. Her unique ability to blend traditional Sufi elements with contemporary sounds has set her apart from her peers. As a trailblazer for Sufi music in Bollywood, she has not only revived interest in the genre but also inspired a new generation of artists.

of course i'll live there with you, until death's cold footsteps begin to resound across the marble floors, until i feel my trembling hands impulsively finding their way to yours, until the last moments when i feel death's soft breath caress my eyes.
we'll have a gramophone that plays old hindi and bangla songs, a ballroom where we'll "dance" - actually just trip over each other's feet and laugh until our ribs get tough - and i'll put gajra in your hair, pick out the best jhumkas for you and silently write you poetry which perhaps someday a stranger shall find, long after we're gone.
we'll name all the ducks in our pond and i'll sing kishore kumar offtune while you try to sleep amidst the ruckus. i'll read you tagore's poetry in a weird australian accent until you roll off the bed laughing, taking our blanket with you. we'll dance in the rain and i'll try to tickle you with a peacock feather when you show off your bharatnatyam moves.
in the evenings, i'll sit with my work and you'll sit with yours in different rooms. but when we need something, be it a glass of doodh cha or a forehead kiss, the walls echo with "meri jaan!" and "dilbaro!"
i'll bake you muffins with little hearts on them and we'll have rabri kulfi every week. i'll fix the creases of your saree and you'll straighten the collar of my black kurta. i'll play with your rudraksh mala and you'll mess up my hair, laughter echoing throughout our castle. we'll paint rangolis when it's diwali and paint aalta on our feet. we'll run around like the deer tagore wrote a song about, and then we'll know why sita wanted one oh so desperately.
on weekends, we'll go to the theatre or to the cinema and grab a few books while we're at it. and after our adventures, we'll come back to our palace, to the ducks and to the pond.
centuries later, maybe aeons - they'll find our palace. the laughter still echoes off of the walls. there are sounds of muffled sobs and "it's okay, meri jaan, have a muffin." they're confused - terribly confused, and they begin exploring. they'll find the dried up pond, the dusty old library and the gramophone with rust all over it. and sometimes, while they're at it, maybe, just maybe, they'll hear a faint "amarpali?" and a shadow of "yes, meri jaan?"

One of my favorite songs: Dilbaro from Raazi. (I don’t know why I’m attracted all of a sudden to bidaai songs, seeing that a bidaai happening to me irl is nothing short of my worst nightmare).
@carminavulcana, if you know the Kashmiri words in the beginning, please tell me if I pronounced them right?
Tagging my musical mutuals: @mayavanavihariniharini @butchcaroldanvers @allegoriesinmediasres @hermioneaubreymiachase @rippys-chai @iamnotthat @will-die-without-chai, @jigyask @medhasree @shaonharryandpannisim @ambitiousandcunning @ruminationsofaraven @bleedinknight and @poonduvengaayam (you seemed to like yesterday’s song, not sure if you can understand Hindi, but...)

hi, I wrote a fic.
because aditya and rao and priya and malini and the entire world of ‘the burning kingdoms’ has me in a goddamn chokehold. so I spat out 1.4k words of sad feels for rao because he deserved better, but also I’m not practiced enough to write a fix-it. so for now, you get angst.
also: this is the first fic that I’ve written and posted online. that’s how much of a grip this series has on me, and how deeply I felt reading a story inspired by my heritage.
hope y’all like it. enjoy!
—
How pathetic he was, a war general who should be protecting his ruler after such a betrayal, to protect the woman his true name had declared to be the true sovereign. A warrior returning from a successful siege in his empress’ name, and he was here, grieving and drinking the same Parijati wine Rao had shared with him that fateful day, when they laughed about stars and religion.
