A federal judge on Monday threw out a lawsuit by Elon Musk’s X that had targeted a watchdog group for its critical reports about hate speech on the social media platform.
In a blistering 52-page order, the judge blasted X’s case as plainly punitive rather than about protecting the platform’s security and legal rights.
“Sometimes it is unclear what is driving a litigation,” wrote District Judge Charles Breyer, of the US District Court for the Northern District of California, in the order’s opening lines. “Other times, a complaint is so unabashedly and vociferously about one thing that there can be no mistaking that purpose.”
“This case represents the latter circumstance,” Breyer continued. “This case is about punishing the Defendants for their speech.”
X’s lawsuit had accused the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) of violating the company’s terms of service when it studied, and then wrote about, hate speech on the platform following Musk’s takeover of Twitter in October 2022. X has blamed CCDH’s reports, which showcase the prevalence of hate speech on the platform, for amplifying brand safety concerns and driving advertisers away from the site.
In the suit, X claimed that it had suffered tens of millions of dollars in damages from CCDH’s publications. CCDH is an international non-profit with offices in the UK and US.
Because of its potential to destroy the watchdog group, the case has been widely viewed as a bellwether for research and accountability on X as Musk has welcomed back prominent white supremacists and others to the platform who had previously been suspended when the platform was still a publicly-traded company called Twitter.
ducktales woohoo
tried to emulate the Ducktales (2017) artstyle. i failed!! i'm joking, it's decent, it's alright. I watched the reboot in December and I absolutely loved it so while my first plan was to make good old fanart FOR ONCE, I eventually settled with my two sillies. that and i'm slow as hell so time is of the essence. also a late valentine's day post? I guess?? no day like any day to celebrate love, isn't it?
i do think that with the kind of clique-ish countercultural (???) vibe of this website some people have forgotten that this is still a public forum and everyone can see what you post

Yet when users, aka readers and creators alike see AI content, gacha, avatar generators (Picrew) and others being posted in Webtoon Canvas, its allowed?
Honestly it doesn't feel safe that anyone can just shove other creator's works into an AI generator, grab other people's works in general, especially when its obvious it is done without the consent nor permission of said original artists, and several of them don't even approve for its usage that way. Oh sure thing, they can't monetize from it but surely they can be within other creators, oh, they so much want artists and original content so they can later profit out of it if it matches with their brand and bring into new users on their platform but God forbid showing the least of decency to protect it from thiefs, plagiarists and more.
The more they fill Webtoon and other platforms with AI and other stolen, plagiarized or traced content (And even worse, developing their own engines with our data), the more artists will simply walk away. It is happening with Meta, everywhere they want to implement or allow AI, artists will complain, authors will complain, writers will complain. We are all complaining at the moment, and honestly, this makes me want to start telling my friends and other creators to leave Webtoon because they keep on adding to their list of constant direspect towards Creatives.
This issue happened with the Webtoon LATAM staff when I reported an AI generated series. I foound out about it because its "author" was sharing it in a facebook group, guess how that post was going? AWFULLY, every artist suggesting the person to switch to writing a Novel, hire an artist or draw the comic themselves, especially if they even want to see some kind of income for their so called "Great novel of 20 volumes that has been on the work for more than a decade"
I’m popping in to take a moment to showcase this adorable rendition of Eforie that @doopiedoover illustrated. Her caring but adventurous and daring personality was thoroughly depicted through her facial expression and posture. Her eye-catching stare to urge the viewer to appraoch her makes this rendition a suitable thumbnail for The Heliotrope Chronicles Book 1 Volume II.
This digital illustration was planned for a couple years, but after overcoming a hurdle in my budget, Doopie took on the commission and I can’t thank her enough for the time she put toward her characterization of Eforie. Be sure to follow her on X and Instagram when you get a chance to see more of her expressive character illustrations. ^_^
Son of a Hustler’s Chapter 3 is all finished, but the update is not ready for release yet. As Michaela and Einsam head over to the level selection book, they may spot two guests that booked rooms at the Lionhead Mansion at an ungodly hour. They know little about the dangers that the twosome has faced, but they know much about how the community is dealing with Michaela’s abrupt departure. It would be wise not to eavesdrop for too long. The mansion can be so quiet that even a sigh through the nose can cause these guests to notice them. 🙄
I completed one out of two of the new NPCs in Son of a Hustler’s hub so far, but as soon as acquaintance is fleshed out, the update will be ready to go. ^_^
I hope you are enjoying your first days of summer and thank you for supporting the series as always.
