Industry trend|China Telecom and Huawei Complete the Nation’s First 5G Low-Cost High-Precision Positioning Commercial Pilot
Recently, China Telecom Guangdong Company and China Telecom Research Institute, together with Huawei, completed a 5G indoor low-cost high-precision positioning commercial pilot in Guangzhou. This is the first commercial case in China to achieve indoor high-precision positioning based on the 5G UTDOA low-cost 1-point X solution. While ensuring the positioning service experience, it greatly reduces the cost of achieving high-precision positioning based on the 5G cellular network.
5G network naturally has the advantages of one network for communication positioning and one network for indoor and outdoor. It can support high-precision positioning capabilities based on the deployed 5G network upgrade. 5G high-precision positioning is also one of the core capabilities of 5G-A.
For indoor scenarios with low capacity requirements, such as parking lots, 5G network deployment usually adopts a low-cost 1-point X solution, that is, the deployment method of active indoor pRRU with external passive antennas; for scenarios with high capacity requirements, such as stations and hospitals, a pure active indoor solution is used. 5G UTDOA positioning products with pure active indoor deployment have been widely used in commercial applications, while the low-cost UTDOA positioning solution has not been commercialized due to technical difficulties such as signal identification and time synchronization of external passive antennas.
According to the announcement of China Telecom, relying on the Beidou+5G national key R&D plan project led by China Telecom, China Telecom Guangdong Company, China Telecom Research Institute and Huawei will cooperate to carry out Beidou+5G technology research and development and application promotion. On the basis of jointly completing the first verification of 5G macro and micro station positioning in 2023, it will further promote the maturity of low-cost solutions. Based on Huawei's 5G commercial equipment, the equipment deployment and technical verification will be completed in two typical indoor application scenarios: the parking lot and floor shops of Guangzhou Taihe Jinbo Tiandi Shopping Mall.
Tumblr media
Test data show that in the open area of the parking lot, the overall positioning accuracy reached 1.35 meters @ 90%, while the overall positioning accuracy in the light partition area of the shop was 2.97 meters @ 90%. These data show that 5G networks can not only provide high-quality communication services, but also effectively support the realization of high-precision positioning.
China Telecom has been committed to the construction of Beidou + 5G integrated high-precision location service capabilities. During the 2024 World Mobile Communications Conference Shanghai (MWC Shanghai), China Telecom and industry partners released the "5G + Beidou High Trust Space-Time System", and released the "Beidou + 5G Space-Time System Empowering Digital Economy High-Quality Development White Paper", and took the lead in establishing the first Beidou + 5G Special Committee and Industry Alliance in the national communications industry, aiming to achieve the deep integration of Beidou and 5G dual strategies and promote the large-scale application of PNT (positioning, navigation, and timing).
In the past two years, China Telecom and its partners have jointly completed the interoperability of 5G UTDOA indoor pure active positioning solutions among different manufacturers and the promotion and implementation of commercial cases. In the future, China Telecom will continue to promote the standardization of 1-point X products together with companies in the industry, realize the decoupling of base stations and positioning core network elements LMF, further reduce network transformation costs, and improve the 5G low-cost positioning industry chain. It will also carry out verification of integrated positioning technology in combination with more scenarios to promote the widespread application of Beidou + 5G integrated positioning technology.

Boosting Signal Strength with Antenna Amplifiers: Your Complete Guide to Improved Connectivity
In today’s digital age, reliable access to information and entertainment is paramount. Whether you're streaming your favorite shows, tuning in to local broadcasts, or surfing the web, a clear signal is essential. Unfortunately, weak signals can interrupt your viewing experience, especially if you're located far from the source of transmission. This is where an antenna amplifier becomes a game-changer.
Tumblr media
What is an Antenna Amplifier?
An antenna amplifier, also known as a signal booster, is a device designed to improve the strength and quality of the signals received by an antenna. By amplifying the weak signals before they are sent to your television or radio, an antenna amplifier ensures better reception, reducing issues like static, pixelation, or intermittent loss of signal. This makes them an essential tool for homes located in rural or distant areas from broadcast towers, where signal strength may otherwise be too low for consistent reception, wifi enhancer.
How Does an Antenna Amplifier Work?
At its core, an antenna amplifier works by boosting the electrical signals captured by your antenna. When radio waves (in the case of FM radio) or electromagnetic waves (for television) reach the antenna, they are transformed into electrical signals. However, if these signals are weak due to long distances, obstacles like buildings, or atmospheric conditions, the result can be poor reception. The amplifier increases the strength of these weak signals before they are passed on to your receiver.
Types of Antenna Amplifiers
There are two primary types of antenna amplifiers: preamplifiers and distribution amplifiers.
●     Preamplifier: This type is usually installed near the antenna and is designed to amplify weak signals right from the source. It’s ideal for people living in areas where the signal coming into the antenna is weak, to begin with, often due to distance from the transmission tower.
●     Distribution Amplifier: This amplifier is installed between the antenna and multiple receivers in a home. It boosts the signal for homes that split the antenna signal between several televisions. Without amplification, the signal could weaken significantly as it is distributed across multiple devices.
Do You Need an Antenna Amplifier?
The need for an antenna amplifier depends on a few key factors. If you live in an urban area where the signal is strong and free from interference, you may not require one. However, in suburban or rural areas, where the broadcast signals can weaken due to obstacles like trees, buildings, or mountains, an amplifier can make a significant difference.
Choosing the Right Amplifier
When selecting an antenna amplifier, consider factors like signal strength, distance from the nearest broadcast towers, and how many devices you'll be connecting. Look for amplifiers with adjustable gain control, which allows you to fine-tune the amplification level to prevent signal overload, which can cause distortion.
Installation Tips
Installing an antenna amplifier is relatively simple. For preamplifiers, it's best to place the unit as close to the antenna as possible, while distribution amplifiers should be installed indoors, ideally near where the signal splits. Always ensure that your antenna is properly positioned before adding an amplifier, as amplifying a poor signal won’t improve it; it will only make the poor signal stronger.
Conclusion
An antenna amplifier is a simple, effective way to improve signal strength and quality for televisions or radios, especially in areas with weak reception. By understanding how these amplifiers work and choosing the right type, you can enjoy clear, uninterrupted broadcasts without the frustration of weak signals.
