hi there :D I just wanted to say, I REALLY love your fic!! show ninja in movie-verse is always such fun, and the angst is really delicious… but my favorite part is probably the way you portray all the characters <3 ESPECIALLY Kai/Ash, and movie!Kai, too (though boy could I ramble about my love for Zane in this fic)

And speaking of Kai, I wanted to know if you have any tips on how to write him? I’ve been dabbling a bit in Ninjago fic, but Kai (mostly Kai POV) has been a bit more of a struggle for me than some of the other characters~ so I was wondering if there was any one thing that you find makes a portrayal feel like him? Or any tips you’d have on writing him? :D Thanks so much, and thanks for sharing your lovely fic with us!! 🫶

Thank you so much!!! Your words truly mean a lot; it's a big reason why I write! These characters are near and dear to my heart, so I'm pleased I got them right. The more I love them, the easier it is for me to write them--hence why the Kai/Ash characterization is so fun. Zane was actually a surprise! I liked him before but writing him showed I liked him a lot more than I thought I did haha.

Hm, what makes Kai Kai for me is his stubborn desire to protect the ones he love at all costs. All the ninja will fight for their family, but Kai is willing to get his hands bloody for them. Kai gets angry for them, and sometimes he turns that anger on his enemies. He fights rougher, talks rougher. That being said, though, he's still a good guy at heart. He's sarcastic, overconfident, and a tad obsessed with his looks. I love putting a little snark in his POV when I write.

Of course, this is Kai as he was pre-Sons of Garmadon. I love Kai now, but man, something about his rougher characterization in the early seasons really hit for me. I'd say that's what I like to see and what I include in his POV: his desire to protect his family, his ferocity/eagerness in a fight, and of course, a little goofiness, a little humor. Because at the end of the day, he's a dorky older brother.

Disadventure Camp Rant 🚧(spoilers for EP 8 below)🚧

Ok, SO- I had already expected Ellie to get the boot this episode, pretty much since the last episode. And, honestly? I'm glad she’s gone- but not because I dislike her!

First off, HUGE Ellie defender and lover of her character here- she's actually part of my top three and man do I love her design and motivation! She’s so real and desperate in a way I think many people can relate to nowadays. She’s obviously portrayed to be kind and caring person to all those who’ve met her outside of the game, even mentioned by Kai in one of his greetings! It’s also obvious how much she adores Gabby and I thoroughly believe that she would ultimately choose her if it came down to it.

Still- I can’t deny that her cut-throat competitive nature would have gotten the better of her at some point. She was becoming really harsh and Tess has a really good point, one I 100% agree with. The game was NOT good for her, and she honestly would have permanently burned so many more bridges if she’d have continued. Plus, it would be silly for her to win as she’s displayed her competative nature again and again, so it was she’d likely have been soon to go anyways. If she, by the slimmest chance, made it to the merge? She’d have been either an early vote if most of yellow didn’t make it, or an easy Villain boot if they did make it. The only one of the four remaining that would possibly want to keep her in would be Alec, but after last season’s finale? It’s be a long shot. The point is that there’s literally no way she would have won, so better now than later.

To get back on topic though- the biggest reason I’m glad she’s gone though? (hoping for) More Gabby character development/screen time! She was a pretty early boot during the first season and her character has been mostly revolving around Ellie thus far in All Stars. I'd simply love to see some more of her interacting with the other contestants and even just her on her own! She’s obviously got something up her sleeve, and highly potential allies to back her up! Villain Gabby arc? Uh- YES PLEASE-

All in all, a bittersweet ending for my girl Ellie- really hoping Gabby gets far! (Gabby for the win lol) Going to cross my fingers for a Gabby vs Grett ending, though that's 100% wishful thinking. Also though- SO psyched about the confirmation that they use pet names! I wasn't sure how cringy-cutesy I could get away with being when writing them but I'm glad it's cannon lol. They're so adorable- can't wait to see Ellie again in the finale! (kinda sad we didn't get her reading off the patrons, though hoping that it means there's a chance she’ll be back?? MAYBE???)

Here we are! What a journey, and while perhaps this season wasn't at MoM level it was REALLY good, with great new villains/allies, great little throwbacks and an awesome story! 🤩

How to get this was very good to great? Give me a very good ending Seabound!! ����💕

Wojira seems to be a little smaller than the Devourer maybe? His head way bigger than the bounty, while hers is not that massive even in comparison with Kalmaar

Nyaaaaaaa 😭😭😭😭 I didn't think it was possible to love her even more, she was ignored for so long during the show, but now we finally see all of her. Jaya grew up so much, it went through some very questionable phases yes, but what they have here? It's the result of all they had lived together 💙❤💙❤

I'm speechless... like that's true, have A LOT to write over here 😅

This type of plot twist reminds me of our early seasons. Zane sacrificing himself, Garmadon giving up his life, those moments that made me so curious and excited about the following. I have no idea what will be the outcome for this, but I can't wait to find out

With that out of the way, AMAZING SEASON 😍😍😍 I think this finale beats MoM's, just because it was really unexpected and opens up a SEA of possibilities... yeah too soon 😭

I'm still shaken, my world, they did something HUGE and I do hope it will be a good shake to the entire Ninjago plotline. Nya is "gone", we still don't know about the person behind all that vengestone, we haven't heard from Garmy in forever, there are so many good ideas out there now that they've set the ground for more 🤩🤩

Voice acting was *chef's kiss*, not only for the villain which I already stressed enough about, I think Kelly reached a new level of emotional intimacy with Nya and I'm so happy she showed her skills 💜💜

Animation is TOP, there's little to no point into saying anything else since they showed it very clearly in the latest season ☺

This was the emotional, witty and engaging writing I was looking for! Good jokes, meaningful dialogues, emotional scenes, everything was really good and I'm gonna rewatch some scenes especially for that 😍

It turned out having Maya and Ray back was kind of a distraction to fool us all 😅😅 Well played actually, and it was very cool seeing them again in any case 🙋‍♀️

And now? Jay lost his love, I have no idea if the show will work on him getting over her or hold onto her memory (thinking of Jay probably the latter, although I do think that handling the first would be an interesting idea). KAI LOST HIS SISTER 😢😢😢 I have no doubt he's gonna beat himself up for it, like he did when Zane was gone too. Everyone lost their friend, she had become such a vital part of the team and now she is not here anymore it will be hard...

They are back with the four plus one green savior formation, I sincerely don't know how I feel about that 😅 I'm always happy when we get the OGs, but this is about going on without Nya... maybe Skylor will be called? Or Pixal will be more active? That could be interesting to see, who knows 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Gosh, how are they going to handle the next season? It will have to give A LOT of answers to the millions questions we all have right now. Man I can't wait, it could be anything!!! This is a Ninjago revolution!

But if I have to mention a little complain, and I'm a fangirl so I absolutely have to, Kai didn't show much of a reaction to Nya's "departure". Okay, she didn't straight up die like in Skybound (I'm gonna fear all BOUND seasons from now on 😱), but he's her brother and he loves deeply his family. Either we're gonna see him go all out next season, or the writers really did only focus on Jaya. A tiny bit salty... but you got me a fantastic finale so I'll move on 👍

Outstanding, I'm blown away. Whenever I think I'm used to this show they do stuff like this. I'm so glad and sad you guys 😅 But mostly happy that despite everything I still get very strong emotions while I watch this long time favorite show of mine 💜💜💜

What else can I say at this point? ONTO NEXT SEASON!!! 🤩🤩🤩

Sk8 Character Thoughts

Yeah, so y’all have to deal with me venting my latest obsession, lol. Sorry to everyone who followed me for other stuff, I will get back to it eventually. ^^;

I was gonna write out individual walls of text for everyone to be fair, but I decided that’s too much work and I’d go crazy before I finished (plus I’m feeling guilty for neglecting my fanfiction writing), so I’m just gonna bullet point some of the random things I think about various skaters (opinions and theories).

The order is the approximate order of which I like characters, though it’s not a strict ranking. I like most of the characters in the show to some extent.

Adam (Shindo Ainosuke)

I’ve already said a lot about him, you can check it out here and here. I’ll probably end up saying more about him before the show ends, too. xD

Yes, he is an absolutely awful person, but that’s what makes him amazing.

I will say that he needs a better costume designer. He looks like a clown. It looks like something that he designed when he was, like, five years old.

The mask is great though. <3

Cherry Blossom (Sakurayashiki Kaoru)

I love the super analytical types, but I also feel like Carla is a crutch for him. He’s a great skater, but if he didn’t have Carla, I don’t think he’d be able to compete at the level of the other top skaters. But all the more props to him for finding a way that he could compete at that level.

He totally had a thing for Adam before. But I think that even then, Adam was too fucked up to be able to have a romantic relationship, so nothing came of it. Because if Adam did actually learn what real love was like rather than confusing abuse for love, I don’t think he would have turned out the way he did.

It’s pretty clear that until he gets smacked by Adam, he’s still looking up to Adam and clinging to what they had before. And it bleeds into his non-skating life as well: when he did his calligraphy demonstration, I think that he hoped Adam would see it, which was why he picked that specific phrase and explained it--to let Adam know that it wasn’t too late to make amends (not that Adam would have given a fuck even if he did see it).

I love his character design as a teen, and I’m sad that he’s become more respectable-looking (though still hot af) as an adult. I’m a sucker for guys with long hair in anime/manga.

He is absolutely a weeb. He’s made an AI assistant who he calls Carla, which creeps out Joe (in a cute, lovable way, not in an Adam way), and he incorporates her into almost all aspects of his life. Like, he just happens to have an AI-augmented wheelchair handy, why?

He also dresses up like a ninja when he’s skating, goes around in a kimono in his daily life, etc. etc. Okay, maybe the kimono can be excused since he’s a calligrapher (though I’m pretty sure that’s not the norm regardless, except for maybe if the artist is at some sort of exhibition?), but people’s costumes seem to show off who they really are beneath the mask they put on for society. So Cherry secretly wants to be a ninja. xD

I’m not on any specific ship, but if I had to pick one to board, it would be Matchablossom.

Can we please have a spinoff that’s just about Adam, Cherry, and Joe when they’re teenagers?

Snow (Hasegawa Langa)

Frankly, Langa’s only up this high because I love his dynamic/rivalry with Adam. If Adam didn’t exist, he’d be below Joe, maybe below Tadashi.

Not that I don’t like Langa, but he’s just an oblivious skating nerd. He’s skilled and passionate, but I don’t really feel that he really stands out as a standalone character. He’s more of a foil for other characters (mostly Adam and Reki).

I guess what stands out the most to me is his ability to improvise when he’s falling behind, since his skill level is understandably lower than most of the other people he skates against. Like finding alternative pathways to the finish line versus Shadow and Miya, or using Joe’s strength to propel him forward. Or just, like, flying off the edge of a cliff to take a shortcut. That too. xD

His snow motif is pretty cool. (No pun intended.)

And I won’t deny that he’s cute. He’s actually the reason I started watching, because I saw some fanart of him and got curious. Came for the Langa, stayed for the Adam. <3

I feel bad for him for having a jealous jerk as basically his only friend though.

Joe (Nanjo Kojiro)

He’s such a teddy bear. <3

Joe’s the heart to Cherry’s brain, and I adore the way they balance each other out. I love Vitriolic Best Buds.

What surprised me, though, is that Joe seems to have a better understanding of Adam’s current character than Cherry does, since Cherry is so precise and analytical. Though the flashback clarified that some since it’s pretty obvious that Cherry is/was biased where Adam is concerned. Sure, Joe was also friends with Adam back then, but it seems that Cherry was the one most star-struck by Adam.

But Joe obviously knows and accepts that Adam’s changed, unlike Cherry, though he probably doesn’t know the reason why. He seemed to be expecting something to happen during the race, so it didn’t surprise him when it did, though he was sad/disappointed by it. It seemed like he was concerned and wanted to warn Cherry before his race (which is super cute), and when everyone else was flinching from seeing the assault on Cherry, Joe didn’t look away. I don’t think he knew exactly what Adam was going to do (I don’t think anyone did, lol), but he knew Adam was going to do something.

I don’t think he was serious when he said the reason Adam is avoiding their beefs is because he’s afraid he’ll lose, though. Yeah, he wants to race Adam, and he wants to win, but I think he’s more grounded when it comes to Adam, so he probably knows that Adam would beat him if it came down to it. Whereas Cherry legitimately thought he could win if Adam held back.

Also, his skateboard wheels are ridiculous. How do they even work?

Snake (Kikuchi Tadashi)

He got an ask post, yay, so not going to rehash it here.

I really hope that Adam realizes at some point that Tadashi is the only person who really knows and understands him, and comes to appreciate everything that Tadashi’s done for him.

Miya (Chinen Miya)

Such a brat, omg.

I get that he’s a kid, and kids are brats, and so it’s a fairly realistic depiction. I just hate kids. >.>

Pretty much the only time I’ll really like a child character is when they’re precocious as fuck and not child-like at all, which I get defeats the purpose, but that’s me.

Brattiness aside, he is skilled and appreciates Reki standing up to Adam on his behalf, so much so that he’s willing to spend his time training a “slime” just so Reki doesn’t get completely crushed by Adam. And he’s also willing to work with Langa to teach him the most difficult trick in skating (the Caspar Slide) for the same reason.

Ultimately, he’s a good kid, but he’s had some bad experiences that make it harder for him to trust people since he’s afraid they’ll leave him. He’s still willing to try, though, if people will give him a chance.

Also, the one ep when they go on vacation and Miya pretends Joe is his daddy (and Cherry is his mommy, rofl--hi Matchablossom!) to drive away the women Joe’s hitting on... hilarious.

Kyan Reki 

An even bigger brat.

Again, yeah, he’s a teenager and teens are “just like that,” but I hate those kinds of characters.

Just because his friend is a skating genius, he gets all pissy and stops being friends with him? Showing up to cheer Langa on and then completely running away doesn’t redeem him in my eyes. I get that he’s disappointed that he’s not capable of skating at the level of the top skaters and frustrated that Langa surpassed him so easily, but that’s no excuse to take it out on Langa (or anyone else).

And everyone complains about Adam being possessive, but they just gloss over the fact that Reki repeatedly tries to force Langa to promise to not skate against Adam, even roping in their manager, when he knows that Langa likes accepting challenges and has fun doing them. He just wants to keep Langa to himself, and he’s jealous as fuck that Langa is obsessed with skating against Adam.

Langa even explicitly tells him that he’s not racing Adam just because he’s upset about what Adam did to Reki, but because he wants to do it. Which is the exact same fucking reason Reki gives for not listening to Joe and Miya, and Langa supports his decision then. Why can’t Reki do the same?

Yes, he’s traumatized because his friend who introduced him to skating was seriously injured and had to quit skating, and he got hurt skating against Adam, but just like for Adam: YOUR TRAUMA/BACKSTORY DOES NOT JUSTIFY YOUR BEHAVIOR.

Plus, the whole “we’ll never disappear from your sight” that he told Miya? Psych!

Like, seriously. He knows the kid has abandonment issues because people leave him because he’s too good at what he does, and then he just goes ahead and poofs, putting both Miya and Langa through the same exact fucking thing.

Though I’m sure that the power of friendship will give him a miraculous recovery and he’ll build a new board for Langa so Langa can beat Adam before Adam gets hauled off to jail. It’ll probably be a cheesy make-up where Langa says something about how he can only use Reki’s boards, so it’s like they’re skating together when he races or whatever.

I do respect his ability to observe other skaters and make boards that are perfectly suited to them, though. And he knows that he’d be good in that support role. But he wants to be the hero, so he’s suffering from eighth grader syndrome and lashing out because reality doesn’t conform to his wishes.

Shadow (Higa Hiromi)

Just fucking die already, ‘kay?

I don’t even know what to say. He’s all caught up in his “antihero” complex or whatever (I don’t even remember if that’s the right term, and I don’t give a fuck), and he’s got a nasty personality. Like burning Reki’s board or threatening to have a guy tattoo “Dumpster Slut” above his girlfriend’s name.

You really expect me to believe that he’d treat his manager respectfully if they started dating when he does something like that? His polite florist persona is such a sham.

And he’s a shit skater. How the hell is he in the top 8? If they can throw in a random guy we’ve never seen before (Harry), then they could have just as well put in some other trash mob instead of Shadow, who only didn’t get knocked out in the quarterfinal round because he was racing a nobody.

Imo, all of his “cute” little tricks like throwing fireworks at his opponent or shining a laser into their eyes is worse than what Adam does. Once he does that, he relinquishes all control over the situation, so anything could happen, such as his opponent crashing into a wall or falling off a cliff, which could result in serious injuries or even death. On the other hand, Adam always remains in control when he’s trying to throw off his opponent by forcing them to dance with him and freaking them the fuck out by pushing their limits. Even when he’s holding Reki’s head about an inch above the ground, he won’t let Reki brain himself on a rock or something. And even when he smacks Cherry with his skateboard, his attack leaves Cherry conscious and so lightly injured (relative to what could have been) that he doesn’t even need to stay in the hospital. (I don’t think he actually needs a wheelchair, other than probably being a bit woozy from a concussion, maybe. And maybe not even that if Joe isn’t concerned enough to wake him up/keep him from being unconscious.) Yeah, Adam fucks with his opponents, but if they can get over it, they can get back on a board. There’s a good chance that won’t happen if they get in an accident caused by Shadow, other than for anime logic.

“What about Adam’s Love Hugs??” What about them? Yes, he’s not holding on to his opponents to control their falls, but the point of it is to make them flinch and fall backwards, against the line of motion. That naturally will decrease the severity of their physical injuries, unlike when Reki and Harry fall off the course at full speed versus Shadow.

The only reason he doesn’t have a higher body count than Adam (or even a literal body count) is plot convenience, since he’s not the villain.

aso after YEARS, i finally gave in and started watching cobra kai. this post is just gonna be a brain dump on the first season which i've just binged.

i'm 18 years old, i started doing karate when i was 7 and trained regularly until covid started. unfortunately at the moment i'm on a break because of my family's financial situation and because i just started college.

i'm a second degree brown belt in shito-ryu karate. i did tournaments from 2012 until 2019. (that sounds kinda like i'm bragging, sorry)

i'm also a psych major, left-wing activist, punk enthusiast & was recently diagnosed with autism.

lets get to the actual show.

i have to say, it wasn't NEARLY as bad as i thought it was gonna be. (it's pretty good so far actually). i expected the karate itself to be terrible, which it wasn't. i recognized all the katas (i'm not saying they were good, but at least they actually exist, which is more than i was expecting.) AND considering the fact that the students (hawk and robby especially) have only had A YEAR of training (in the show, i have no idea how much experience the actors have), they did extremely well.

the fighting was decent, but it was definitely not kumite (that's what the fighting category at karate tournaments is called), and all of them would've gotten disqualified a 100 times over, especially at an u18 tournament, but i get that it'd probably be boring to watch otherwise.

i still think the fighting was actually pretty good though (although i have to say their legs are incredibly slow), it's just all less sports-karate oriented i'd say, and they've included some techniques from other forms of martial arts, but that doesn't make it bad.

i think larusso pisses me off the most because i'm really not buying the whole karate champion thing. but that might also be because i just really don't like his character.

for the approach, the entire "only for defence" vs "no mercy", i've seen (and had) senseis with a similar approach to both larusso's and lawrence's, though larusso's is the more traditional one, i'd say. i'm not the one to judge which one is better though.

cool ok so that was the technicalities and from here on i'll shift from my karateka self to my traumatized escapist self.

i haven't related to a lot of characters as much as i've related to hawk. i was bullied at school, which was why i started karate. i found a family in my dojo, i gained a lot of confidence and i eventually started seeing karate as a way i could get all my anger out. anger at school, the system, everything. so my fighting style evolved accordingly. (i got a grip of myself though and i realize i was Not Fun to be around). i also have the same haircut as hawk does. and the same name (i go by eli, though it'a short for my actual name which i hate. that's also why i'm calling him hawk, cause saying my own name feels weird lol) and i'm involved in my local punk scene. (yes i'm simping for him. lets go get a tattoo together please.)

all in all i've liked the show so far, and i will continue watching.

Obsession first impressions:

Full album and mv. I can’t really count my initial viewing of the mv because I lost consciousness partway through. Twice. So! In a fully awake state:

Obsession is aweome. It’s not their best title track, imo, but it’s got a cool sound and some really banging segments, so it has a lot of potential to me. It’s a little effects heavy for my taste, especially since we already know even the weakest singers exo are still good! But it’s not so bad that it’s entirely off-putting. (The I Want You is a little much. And side note, isn’t that ‘enjoy’ audio at the beginning the same from the start of Heaven? Could 9! Anywho.) I especially loved Junmyeon’s part near the end. And I like how it’s simultaneously heavy while retaining pop vibes. Omg, did anybody else get echoes of System of a Down???? Overall I’m excited for re-listens!

The mv itself is equally awesome! I love the battle segments, the colors were gorgeous. The parts that switched to daylight were a little jarring, but I imagine that was intentional? The choreo was really cool too, and I love the part where they hold themselves. And omg go Chanyeol!!!! I’m so happy for him getting the center at the beginning. 😍 The costumes were hit and miss for me, but I like that they gave us an evil exo; I think it’s a really fun addition to their ‘mythology,’ if you will. Visually it kind of felt like a blend of LMR, Love Shot, and Monster all rolled into one. ...But maybe that’s just me? Anyway, I’m so happy I finally got to watch it. I’m officially ready to re-view it on every device I have access to!! ☺️☺️☺️

Trouble didn’t really do much for me? It feels like a re-worked version of Damage. I’m not mad at it, it’s just not a favorite. But I love Jongin’s ‘goddess’ line. Kaisoo feels happening there.

Jekyll was by far the kind of song I most expected from this concept. I don’t know that I love it, but I think I appreciate this one the most, because besides Obsession it’s the most out of the box. And I love when exo goes Daring.

Groove was just that, with a wealth of high notes. Although it was interesting how it had something of...idk, island flair? But I loved osh’s segment.

Ya Ya Ya had such an unexpected beginning and end, like...what?? XD But the melody is a lot of fun, and the English segments were adorable. I think this’ll be the one that gets stuck in my head the most often.

Baby You Are is so cool! In some respects it reminds me of Trauma? With like an 80’s synth flair? But omg, Jongin, what a beautiful line, I’m so proud of him!!! 😍 And play in pitch is something I always enjoy in vocals, so this one was a lot of fun to listen to. I think I’ll have to be careful relistening though, because I can tell it’s one of those songs that if I listen to it in the wrong mood I’ll get upset. (I’m so weird.)

Non Stop had a lot of sweet instrumentation. It’s one of those pop songs that’s perfectly nice and catchy, but it’s kind of...safe? Like I could hear that song from any group. I’m not complaining, I still like it! In fact I’ll probably relisten to this one a lot.

Day After Day is nice and smooth, and the vocal layers are fantastic! It’s so gratifying when Sehun is allowed to SING! Cy’s high notes were a little awkward to me, which is unfortunate, because I know the dingus can hit them; what happened there?? It’s a lot like With You, don’t you think?

I really like Butterfly Effect! It sounds pretty close to what I imagined in my head, which I’m psyched about. Maybe a little less Soft Cell though, lol. It’s got a...idk, early millennium vibe to me. And I love when Chanyeol gets to harmonize w vocal line members!

Overall on first listen my favorite is probably either Obsession, or Baby You Are. But who knows if it’ll stay that way. There were a lot of fun jams on this album for me! Tbh the darkness of the title track is rather incongruous w the rest of the songs, but the same thing happened w Monster on Ex’Act. Maybe someday we’ll get a fully-dressed dark concept w a metal/hard rock album. (Yeah...a girl can dream though, right?) It’s still fun to enjoy the tracks individually. I think my favorite part of this album was how much more we got to hear Jongin. I hope someday the company has the balls, and he has the confidence, to give us a Kai solo album. ❤️

Addressing the elephant in the room, I definitely felt the absence of Minseok, and Kyungsoo in particular. So many songs I would’ve loved to hear him take a chorus, or do one of his signature runs or ad libs. I have to admit, as much fun as a lot of the tracks were, I probably wouldn’t have found them ‘safe’ if he had been there. And it’s not *just* an issue of playing favorites, I feel like his lower tones would’ve broken up a lot of the higher registers they went with this album. Idk, I’m *very* clearly biased for my bias, but I do like this album a lot, and I’m so glad to finally have my boys back. ❤️

I always wonder how fast Asura learned to hate himself. Like, most likely he was told how he was created and why he isn't "normal" pretty early but at what point do you think it turned into self loathing? I find it hard to believe he didn't care that much. If he didn't care I doubt he would have tried so hard to get rid of his fears. Also, how long do you think he knew Death believed he would fall into Madness? Because being told something is inevitable can lead you to do what's expected. -Kai

First off, I’m not entirely sure where in Asuras life that Lord Death would reveal how his son was created. I mean, the guy only opens up to kid about the past when he’s pressed and has absolutely no other choice then to do so. And even then his answers are vauge at best.

But then again, maybe Lord Death didn’t act that way when he was younger. Think about it, having your then only son turn against you, kill your friends, slaughter innocent civilians, and threaten the status of the world so much that you have to kill him; that changes a person.

In any case, Lord Death probably told Asura how and why he was made as soon as the little reaper asked. So I’d wager he was around 5-6 (if were assuming reapers are newborns when they’re created). But I don’t think that knowledge was much of a blow to his psyche as it probably could have been. Hell, he might have even gotten some closure from knowing why he was so damn scared all the time.

I’m pretty sure his self loathing started when he was a bit older and his warrior training got more intense. Everyone around him would always tell him that he’s be less scared if he; knew more about his fear (Eibon), trained harder and got stronger (Black mass), wasn’t such a fool (Excalibur), did his best (lord Death), and learn to love himself (Vajra). He did all these things but his fears never went away. He wasn’t a child anymore, so he nor his comrades would excuse his odd behavior. So in desperation he bottled it up. He started acting more brash and violent to cover his insecurities. He started going on solo missions without his fathers approval. The more he tried to bury his fears rather than address them, the more his self hate grew.

As far as Lord Deaths stuff, I’m not sure when he started to think his son might fall prey to madness. I like to believe he never entertained the thought. Lord Death is many things, but someone who loves children and strives to protect them is definitely one of his strongest traits. Also, given how long Asura was around and how trusted he was, it’s hard to say that Lord Death didnt have his sons best interest in mind. Besides, back then, witches were his greatest threat, so why would he waste effort suspecting his (then loyal) son of becoming mad??

Yeah I'm just really not here for Anthony LaRusso's middle-school love triangle drama. But I love that they gave the kid who plays him an exact copy of Ralph Macchio's early 80s haircut!

Oh noooooo Miguel found Johnny's gi in his mom's bed!!! I guess we're about to have The Conversation.

I'm losing it at Daniel and Anthony having a talk about a Cobra Kai shirt like Daniel has just caught his kid with hard drugs. I'm also grinding my teeth at Daniel babying his spoiled little bully of a son, because the possibility that a LaRusso could be the bully hasn't even crossed his mind.

So there really is some kind of weird power play happening between Silver and Kreese, right? I don't really get it. Kreese wanted him back, but he's getting into some kind of conflict over the leadership of Cobra Kai. I guess he wants to be the only dom of the dojo.

Okay, we're back with Miguel, Carmen and Johnny for The Conversation. This is going to be painful, I know it. Okay, Johnny opens his mouth aaaaand... *facepalm*

They put Daniel in sweatpants that are so tight that they could be a pair of leggings and JOHNNY ISN'T AROUND TO WITNESS IT! Tragic.

Devon has finally joined the team. I like her. And look at her and Johnny bonding over shitty martial arts movies. And Johnny definitely needs Daniel around to rein in some of his more insane training methods, because yeah, it's only a matter of time before he gets sued...

Okay, but how did Daniel LaRusso's kid turn out this spoiled and obnoxious? It's fine if he isn't into karate or washing cars to learn muscle memory and I'm sure he barely remembers Mr. Miyagi, so I get that he doesn't have the same emotional connection to him as Sam, but it's not just that. It's his whole horrible spoiled rich kid attitude that grinds my gears.

Daniel is still strutting around in his his joggers leggings and still no Johnny to appreciate the view. Absolutely devastating. And are we seeing Chekov's karate technique in that scroll Anthony found in his father's dojo??? Is someone going to be shooting fireballs out of their hand in the tournament?

And yeah, here's Anthony, telling Daniel how he never knew Mr. Miyagi and always felt out of the loop. And it really is such a shame that he never got to grow up with Mr. Miyagi like Daniel and Sam. I do feel for the kid and I understand why he hasn't cared about karate as much as his dad and sister, why it might even be a little annoying to him.

Ooh I think we're about to get another deep dive into Johnny's damaged psyche and childhood trauma... Wait a minute. Is Johnny's dad going to be Someone??? Lol Terry Silver? :D There are so many absent fathers in this show/franchise.

I'm glad Johnny's once again admitting his mistakes with Robby, and Billy and Xolo are really bringing their A game in this scene, but I wish he didn't sound like he's completely given up on his kid, like there's no way he and Robby can ever have a good relationship. Robby is 17! There's still time, Johnny.

Ah, okay, so it looks like Johnny's also got a Chekov's karate technique of his own. Interesting, interesting.

These mind games Kreese and Silver are playing with each other are still making me go ???? It really isn't what I expected from their story arc, but I don't hate it. Tbh a huge part of me wants to see them tear each other apart and for Cobra Kai to destroy itself from the inside.

Kreese pulling rank on Silver and Terry almost crying as he's reminded of where his loyalties should lie *eyes emoji*. I have NO idea how Silver is going to react to this. Part of him looks like he just wants to kneel and go "yes, daddy!" and part of me thinks this is going to be the thing that makes him turn his fangs on Kreese.
