• Name: Venus Keller • Class: Frye + Washburne • Age: 32 • Backgrounds: Scrapper, Found Family •
• character tag •
Notable Abilities
Psionics: Venus’s psionic abilities manifest naturally in telekinetic and technological feats. In dire situations, she can forfeit 2 Mental or Physical Health to do massive amounts of psionic damage, able to rip objects and organics apart at the atomic level.
Lox: Short for "Goldilocks," a nickname born from joking that it is always just the right tool for any job, Lox is a combat and engineering drone that is able to grant +1 to Use Technology or Fight rolls.
Connections
Parent: Elazar "El" Keller was younger than Venus is now when the young child fell into her lap. Her ship, The Sylvain, had been sent to rescue young psionics from the colony of Parable, where a new law had gone into effect outlawing their abilities. El was not involved much on the ground - after all, she's an engineer and not much of a fighter, or even a leader despite the long line of those in the Keller family. But when the crew brought aboard the kids, it didn't take long for Venus to attach herself to El's hip, silently handing her the precisely right instrument she needed for a complicated repair. Upon returning to the IWW fleet, there was no question of who Venus should go with.
Siblings: Though Venus was the first, El has since picked up two other strays. The first was an Ath child named Zei who also immediately took to El, and the second was an illegal AI android who has now named themselves Mercury but goes by "Curie."
Ex: Venus and Solomon “Sol” Harlow rained together for nearly all of their lives, ascending through their various programs side by side. After three years of dating on and off, all Venus got was a vague message on her IC when Harlow decided to leave - not only her, but the entire fleet. It’s been a year now with no further word, but every time her damn name comes up, it’s a stab in the gut. Now Venus can’t imagine ever being foolish enough to think something could last forever. At least Harlow didn’t take Venus down with her in the fallout.
Mechanic: Lex Kanhai is a human psionic engineer onboard the Sylvain who taught Venus everything she knows about ships and psionics.
Other
Though Venus was reserved when she first came on board the Sylvain, it didn't last long. Before anyone knew it, Venus was a social butterfly. At some ports, she was basically the ship's mascot. El had never been a talkin' type, so Venus often found herself stepping in when it came to negotiations for parts.
Six months ago, Venus was instrumental in the recovery of a colony named Caelestis from pirates, allowing her to take further opportunities for training and causing her to be reassigned to a ship called the Sab Cat. She is hoping this is a good sign.

Lore info relevant to this character
Frye & Washburne classes: This game uses the mechanics from the TTRPG my wife and I wrote together called Stranger Still, where all classes are based on archetype-encompassing characters from classic movies, games, and television, using their quotes to inspire abilities. Both of these classes are based on the characters from Firefly (Kaylee Frye and Zoe Washburne). The Frye is a tinkerer whose abilities revolve around mechanical and engineering work. The Washburne class is for characters who are rebels with a cause, often giving bonuses to Sense-based checks and combat.
The Interstellar Workers' Waypoint: Also known as simply the IWW, this a fleet of transient ships across the galaxy that function as a sovereign society, complete with a military presence. The IWW is accepting of aliens, psionics, mutants, and other “undesirables” who face persecution within the Exodus Diaspora or the Earth Accord. The IWW functions as a cooperative democracy devoted to preserving knowledge, developing philosophy, traditional knowledge, and technology, and abolishing inequity. The IWW is at odds with Exodus, the two factions often butting heads, as well as ships. Exodus believes the IWW to be a threat to freedom and corporate power.
The IWW’s military is called the Union and consists of most members of the society in some way and in lieu of a traditional structure of hierarchy, each member has roles based on their skills and may change should they desire. There is no formal power structure, though each ship has a commander for formality as well as cohesion. Traditionally, every soldier is called "FS" before their surname, meaning "Fellow Spacer."
Ath: A race of aliens closely related to space and spaceships. They have person-shaped vessels but are a gaseous people with semi-translucent skin. Their bodies don't contain any liquid and as such, they consume gaseous food and drink as well.

My Selections for GRAMMYS 2020
Continuing what I started last year here’s my reaction to the GRAMMY Nominations with my selections for who I believe should win, and also who I would have picked for each category.
Let me first lay out the ground rules: - I will be following the time frame for eligibility which is October 1st 2018 to September 30th 2019. - I will be ignoring categories for genres I don’t listen to enough. Metal, Country, Classical, Jazz, will be left off. - I am ignoring that the Performance categories are a mixture of recordings and live performances and just treating them as genre specific “Records of the year” awards. The one’s with “Song” in the title are geared more towards the song writing. - I will first make my selection of the available options. Bold and underlines will be my top selection with underlined not bold as my runner up. - I will then make my own selections for each category and who I think should win out of that. - My selection is not just a list of my favorite albums. My selections will be a balancing act taking in account artistic accomplishments, Impact both culturally and popularity as well as what I personally think is good. - I made a few liberties with some of my selections, mostly from the rules for eligibility being vague in spots. - This list is just all my biased suggestions. I’m sure there will be some major differences in opinions with anybody who reads this. - Feel free to shoot me a message to discuss more with me anything you wish to!
