“She’d swapped one life for another because of love. Because of what had happened all those decades ago in New Orleans….And love was why she’d had to tell them her story…all of it, from the beginning. She’d held on to these words for years, stuck in her head, unsure how to share them, and now, she’d finally set them free.” Augusta Montrose from Diane Marie Brown's Black Candle Women Pie Lady Books, a billion percent agree regarding the audiobook available on @librofm. I absolutely loved this book! I fell so in love with the Montrose women and their journey to break the curse that had held them back for generations.✨ . Each of these women have such a clear personality that you feel as if you know them all as dear friends by the time you’re finished reading the book. Their journey to break the curse that had prevented them love was interwoven with magic and humor, and each individual journey full of strength, and healing, and hard-won truths.✨ . I was so captivated by this story that I actually missed these women when the story was done. And it was such an honor to get to meet Diane Marie Brown at the @readwithjenna 4th Anniversary Party and tell her how much I loved and missed these incredible women she had crafted.✨ . I also want to say that the audiobook narration done by Bahni Turpin ( @prospertunia ) is absolutely incredible! Bahni Turpin is one of my go-to narrators and she captured each of these women so well.✨ . Thank you, @diane_marie_brown for writing this story and sharing these women with us! And thank you, @jennabhager for picking this magical story for the March @readwithjenna pick!✨ . . . . . #blackcandlewomen #dianemariebrown #readwithjenna #SistahScifi #BookClub (at Sistah Scifi) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp8IwIXvFNy/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Link in bio: @sistah_scifi | www.sistahscifi.com | https://sistahscifi.com/products/signed-black-candle-women-by-diane-marie-brown. This title is also available at your local #library!! Today we choose @NOLALibrary and @LBCityLibrary! Reposted @littlehopebigworld 🖤🕯️💜 “Black Candle Women” by @dianemariebrown is a multi-generational story of a family of women living with the circumstances and consequences of both a curse placed on them in 1950s New Orleans, and of their own actions. This novel closely follows Augusta, Madelyn, Victoria, Willow, and Nickie Montrose as their lives get turned on their heads after the youngest Montrose woman, Nickie, begins to show feelings for a young boy in her class. Her feelings send the rest of the women into a tizzy because the decades-old curse, which was placed specifically on the women in their family, greets anyone they fall in love with an untimely death. This novel is my first 5-star read of 2023. As I delved into the story, I quickly fell in love with each of the characters, flaws and all, and found myself attached to their stories as if I knew the women personally. With strong writing, essential character development, and rich descriptions of people and places, @dianemariebrown has woven a beautiful, complicated story that centers on the very core of family and relationships between women. Here, I describe a few of the main themes that I found integral to the story. Thank you SO MUCH to @hearourvoicestours @diane_marie_brown and @netgalley for this ARC and the chance to be an early reader of such an incredible story! #BlackCandleWomen #HearOurVoices #HOV #DianeMarieBrown @harpercollins @harlequinbooks (at Sistah Scifi) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cpu_a1YLVVZ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

We are soooooo excited 😊 🤗 🤪! Reposted @kbookwriter As a first-time author I have been so fortunate to connect with and form friendships with other debut authors. This means that I sometimes get sneak peeks of their books! I’m so excited to highlight this upcoming one, BLACK CANDLE WOMEN, by my friend @diane_marie_brown. It hits shelves Feb 28th! A family of women with old New Orleans ties and a penchant for Hoodoo. A rumored family curse that threatens any romantic interest. Many, many secrets. Black Candle Women is a captivating and utterly imaginative novel that follows four Montrose women, all of whom are trying to find their way in life and love in California while occasionally turning to Hoodoo to assist with their endeavors. #blackcandlewomen #dianemariebrown #graydonhousebooks #debutauthors #voodoo #hoodoo #23debuts #2023debuts #SistahScifi @graydonhousebooks @harpercollins (at Sistah Scifi) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpgRAAuPWH-/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

We are so excited for Sistah Scifi Wine Down Wednesday in 2023 on @instagram live!!!! On March 8, we will have @isisasare in conversation with @diane_marie_brown discussing Black Candle Women. Registration link in bio: @sistahscifi | www.sistahscifi.com. Reposted from @diane_marie_brown This cover! It brilliantly and beautifully captures the soul of #BlackCandleWomen - four generations of women who live in the grips of a curse that kills those they love. Many thanks to the artist @bokiba____ for this spellbinding creation that continues to captivate me. I'm finally sharing a few of the blurbs for Black Candle Women. These first two are from a pair of remarkably talented writers. @carolynkhuynh author of The Fortunes of Jaded Women takes readers on a lively journey with a multigenerational family of Vietnamese women, told by a psychic that they will experience a death, a marriage, and a pregnancy all in one year. @cleyvisnatera's Neruda on the Park is a nuanced and complex story about the decisions taken by members of a Dominican family as they contend with classism, gentrification, and their own sacrifices. @graydonhousebooks @harpercollins @htpbooks @thedebball #BlackCandleWomen #2023Debuts #DianeMarieBrown #SistahScifi #debut #23debut #2023debut #bookdebut #februarybooks #debutauthor #debball (at Sistah Scifi) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnUlD7sJ6T-/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Excited that I’ve finally gotten around to this ARC I won in a giveaway from @diane_marie_brown! 💜 Only 6 chapters in, and I’m really enjoying it so far. Willow is my fav Montrose woman!
It was interesting to see all the different permutations of hoodoo and voodoo. But don't get it twisted, the Montrose women aren't Black witches! @Ava Duvernay blurded the book saying, "I was completely and gladly under Ms. Brown’s spell.”
Side note: I can finally show my thumbs since my nails are done 🤣

Black Candle Women by Diane Marie Brown.
Book 📚 Thoughts
by Fallon Vaughn.
🕯️ Black Candle Woman spoke to many generations of women who oftentimes had to shy away from their gifts in order to survive to live and love another day. It spoke to my lineage, and that of every descendant of my blood who has reached beyond the normal confines of what is right and what is wrong, for what is real.
🕯️I enjoyed reading this story and found myself wanting more and more from the characters. The story briefly touches on the magic that the women possess, and left me wanting to dive deeper and deeper into the forbidden book that held all the remedies and ritual. The author did a wonderful job of laying out the city and making New Orleans as much of a character as the women in the story. It was a very easy read that satisfied my craving for something authentic. I cannot wait for the television adaptation!

Reposted @_shebereadin We are taken on a journey with Augusta, Victoria, Willow, and Nicole Montrose as they navigate through life with a family curse that takes the lives of the people they fall in love with. Some of them believe in this curse deeply while others see it as a myth. As time goes on, we learn more about the curse and the origins of which it came about dating back to 1950s New Orleans. This tale is told from the different points of view of the Montrose women as they uncover family secrets throughout the novel.
I want to acknowledge how BEAUTIFULLY STUNNING this cover is. I love the melanated representation along with the gorgeous detail of the women I read about. I enjoyed getting to know each of the women’s different personalities especially while living under the same roof! I liked learning how this curse affected their lives from Nickie, the love struck, teenage great granddaughter to the free spirited, passionate Willow. If you like a feel good, family-oriented read, this is the book for you!

Sistah Scifi Wine Down Wednesday Throwback with @diane_marie_brown discussing Black Candle Women
✨About Black Candle Women
"Generations of Montrose women—Augusta, Victoria, Willow—have lived together in their quaint two-story bungalow in California for years. They keep to themselves, never venture far from home, and their collection of tinctures and spells is an unspoken bond between them.
But when seventeen-year-old Nickie Montrose brings home a boy for the first time, their quiet lives are thrown into disarray. For the other women have been withholding a secret from Nickie that will end her relationship before it’s even begun: the decades-old family curse that any person they fall in love with dies."
🔥Review “Richly imagined and elegantly told, with plenty of satisfying secrets, heartaches, and twists.”
