Literally the only two options for diana in my mind are either she and rick got divorced or rick straight up killed her himself and considering the canon of the show the second one is the one I think about more since she's already dead and it's easier BUT I do think it'd be funnier and more interesting if they were divorced

Like specifically there'd be an episode where rick and morty diane stumble across each other at like a space bar or something and morty absolutely does not recognize her and rick's like 'that's your grandma' and morty's like '??? I THOUGHT SHE WAS DEAD' and rick's like 'who the fuck told you she was dead'

And there's a flashback to a scene where morty's filling out a family tree for a history project for school and morty's like 'hey can you give me the dates for grandma' and rick's like 'uhhhhh August something nineteen fifty something to uhhhhhhhh 1978'

Flash forward, diane's like 'that's when we got divorced' and rick's like 'well you were dead to me so'

Diane's a space adventurer now!!! She has like a whole crew and it's very classic star trek.
