Merasa besarnya suatu dosa itu baik, jika menimbulkan rasa akan bertaubat dan niat untuk tidak mengulanginya untuk selama-selamanya. Tetapi jika merasa besarnya dosa itu akan menyebabkan putus dari rahmat Alloh, merasa seakan-akan rahmat dan ampunan Alloh tidak akan didapatnya, maka perasaan itu lebih berbahaya baginya dari dosa yang telah dilakukannya, sebab putus asa dari rahmat Alloh itu dosa besar dan itu perasaan orang-orang kafir.

Abdulloh bin Mas'ud rodhiyallohu 'anhu berkata: "Seorang mukmin melihat dosanya bagaikan gunung yang akan menimpanya, sedang orang munafiq melihat dosanya bagaikan lalat yang hinggap diujung hidungnya, maka diusirlah ia dengan tangannya.

Nabi shollallohu 'alaihi wasallam telah bersabda: "Demi Alloh yang jiwaku ada di tangan-Nya, andaikan kamu tidak berbuat dosa, niscaya Alloh akan mematikan kamu, dan mendatangkan suatu kaum yang berbuat dosa lalu istighfar [minta ampun] dan diampunkan bagi mereka itu."

Nabi shollallohu 'alaihi wasallam bersabda: "Andaikan perbuatan dosa itu tidak lebih baik bagi seorang mukmin dari pada ujub [mau diagung-agungkan karena amal kebaikannya], maka Alloh tidak akan membiarkan seorang mukmin berbuat dosa untuk selamanya."

Sebab ujub itu menjauhkan seorang hamba dari Alloh, sedang dosa itu menarik hamba mendekat kepada Alloh. Dan ujub, merasa besar diri, sedang dosa merasa kecil dan rendah diri di sisi Alloh.

لاصغيرة اذاقابلك عدله ولاكبيرة اذاواجهك فضله

60. "Tidak ada dosa kecil jika Alloh menghadapi engkau dengan keadilan-Nya, dan tidak berarti dosa besar jika Alloh menghadapimu dengan karunia-Nya."

Syarah

Yang dinamakan Adil yaitu: pelaksanaan hukum Alloh didalam kerajan-Nya yang tidak ada yang menentangnya. Apabila sifat adilnya Alloh itu dilaksanakan pada orang yang di benci Alloh, maka batal semua kebaikannya, dan dosa kecilnya akan menjadi dosa besar.

Yang dinamakan Fadhol yaitu: pemberian Alloh kepada hambanya yang tidak ada balasannya. Apabila sifat Fadholnya Alloh diberikan pada hambanya yang dicintai-Nya, dosa dan kesalahan yang besar akan di anggap kecil oleh Alloh.

Nabi shollallohu 'alaihi wasallam bersabda: "Tidak ada dosa besar jika disertai dengan istighfar [minta ampun], dan tidak dapat dianggap dosa kecil jika dikerjakan terus menerus."

Yahya bin Muadz rodhiyallohu 'anhu dalam berdoa ia berkata: "Tuhanku, jika Engkau kasihan kepadaku, Engkau ampunkanlah semua dosaku, tetapi jika Engkau murka kepadaku, tidaklah Engkau terima amal kebaikanku.''
