ayeee thank you!! :”) i have to clarify that my native language is actually english lol but my mother tongue is chinese so !!

5. favourite song in your native language?

as far as chinese songs go i really really adore 六色彩虹 (rainbow) by 欧得洋 wow now looking at the lyrics again binu au!!!!!! but when it comes down to singaporean versions of songs i love micappella’s mashup of 那些年 and 小幸运!! 《那些年的小幸运》 :’)

7. three words from your native language that you like the most?

askjdfhas okay your local linguistics major is here the coolest thing about chinese is that the characters are 1) basically logograms and their original forms were meant to be pictures of what they represented and 2) you can combine all sorts of different components to give you either a meaning that is a sum of all those components or a meaning that makes like 0 sense 

霖 (the second half of my name!!) pronounced lín :’) it means “a lot of rain” sjdkhf but the cool thing is that there’s 雨 (rain) on the top (the little dots look like raindrops!!) and 林 (forest) at the bottom (they sort of look like trees!!) so it looks like it’s raining over a forest and y’all know i love trees so 

incidentally, the second half of moonbin’s name is 彬, which is also kinda looks like some trees with rain so ayo 

家, jiā, which means “home”!!! if you look closely at the inside portion it looks like a big river that has little streams branching out from it and i guess ?? that’s sort of what home is, no matter how far you go from home you can always find your way back by working upstream :’) also someone told me when i was really young that the 宀 on top of 家 is sort of a protective cap that you put over what you love (which is why it’s present in words like 宝宝, “baby”) and idk i find that hella cute

优, yōu, which means “excellent”!!! it comes from the traditional word 優, and if you look closely at its components it has:

a 亻, which is a squished version of ��� (person)

something that vaguely looks like 直 zhí (direct, honest, fair)

something else that vaguely looks like the bottom half of 爱 aì (love)

that when combined, gives the side 憂 which actually means sadness and grief (honest love = sadness??? something to think about)

but when combined with the 亻(the people aspect) the meaning changes from sadness to goodness and ?????? 

like wow the implication humans ?? have the capacity to turn something melancholic and full of grief into something beautiful and kind i ?? ????????? love language thank u 

also the word 優 also happens to have the meanings “actor”, “kind”, “gentle”, which is nice since this is the second half of eunwoo’s name lmao
