Metamorphosis of a street Dancer: Dhanraj Panchal.
Tumblr media
It's a full blown Bollywood script, a boy next door think's Big and makes it to tinsel town to fulfill his dream career in Dancing.
Dhanraj Panchal a name to reckon with our Bollywood stars, he is a backbone to our entire Choreographer who gives the best Move's to the heartthrob of the nation.
26 years on the block and knocking down doors of Bollywood: Story of Dhanraj Panchal.
The journey of being a professional dancer for 26 years has come with its own perks. Dhanraj Panchal has performed at every single award function, Broadway musical in the country and live shows both here and abroad. The shift from being such a prolific performer to now a choreographer feels like starting from scratch, but Dhanraj has relentlessly knocked down the doors of Bollywood and they've opened up for him. Stree, Badhai Ho, Super 30, Andhadhun are some of the movies he has been pivotal to the team and made our feet tap to the songs.
Here's a te't'e with the man himself to give us a glimpse into his ordinary life become extraordinary as he has the guts to dream and is on his way to make it true.
Street Dancer to a Choreographer how difficult is to get the Megaphone in hand here's the story behind it.
1-What is your style of dancing which method you the most comfortable are with?
DP. Hip Hop, modern contemporary and Bollywood. The biggest challenge and most fulfilling dance style today for me is to amalgamate all 3 forms into what we see on our screens today that this varied style that connects with the audience.
2-Today there is no X factor when you see the choreography done by the known choreographers, but you see more variety in dance shows, your views on this?
DP. I believe that there ideally is no comparison between these 2 mediums because each caters to a complete difference audience and for that matter with a completely different target in mind. A dance reality show is all about technicality and week after week of dance routines whereas a movie has a maximum of 5 songs which have to fit into the overall narrative of the film.
3-What is your goal, and how driven are you, what kind of routine u follow to make yourself different from other's and choreograph dance with an a ump factor?
DP. My goal is to push boundaries and understanding where it comes to dancing not just for professionals but for the audience as well. My journey of 26 years in the dance industry is testament to my drive and I do not see myself luckily slowing down at all. It's not about being different from the others, but in fact keeping an extremely open mind and respect towards all that everyone is doing and learning every single day to be as authentic I can be.
4- Before you develop a dance routine, what do you need to determine?
DP. In depth understanding of the artist's movement and the narrative of the project in sync with the song. A routine can theoretically look great in my head but at the end the craft demands the capabilities of the artist, the narrative of the song and my ability to merge all of these to create a final routine.
5- What skills have you learnt as dancers that make you a good choreographer?
DP. A dancer is a blank canvas and a choreographer is one that holds the brush. The main difference is the vision that is essential for a choreographer that in the end a dancer ends up following. The advantage of being a dancer is to recognize the challenges and limitations of a choreography from the other side of the lens. This helps me in merging my vision with the capabilities of the dancer.
6- What inspired you to take the route to dancing and choreography?
DP. Bollywood is king at the moment for me and the royalty in this space are Prabhudeva, Saroj Khan and Ganesh Acharya. On a personal level, the 2 integral parts of my journey who I immensely respect and admire are Shiamak Davar and Vijay Ganguly.
7- Which song would you like to see as your dream song with you as a Choreographer?
DP. High intensity music that just gets everyone going right from the first beat is a dream for me as a choreographer. The cherry on the cake would be live wire performers like Ranveer Singh in Malhaari, Shahid Kapoor in Gandi Baat and Hrithik Roshan in Dhoom that would definitely be the ultimate dream.
10- Who is your dream Star with whom you want to work with?
DP. I really want to work with Hrithik Roshan and Ranveer Singh from those I haven't worked with yet for their grasp on the nuances of dance and their energy to hit every single count. From the people I have worked with, Ayushman Khurana, Rajkumar Rao and Ali Faisal have been an absolute delight and it would be great fun to be on set with them once again.
11- Your experience in teaching/ choreographing dance for stars?
DP. The biggest thing for me as a choreographer is to separate the artist from the stardom and only then it is conducive to the best work one can achieve. At the end of the day, they carry themselves with such integrity and good fun that it has always been a wholesome learning experience with great results.
