"AT LIKE, FOURTEEN, VIC ." FLICK REMINDS HER WITH A TIRED SIGH, letting her face fall into her hands and scrubbing it with exhaustion that perhaps only this town can provide . god, she doesn't want to be here . flick basically scrambles to take the flask that vic offers, moving to take a probably too large sip herself and swallowing it with a wrinkle of her nose and quick shake of her head at the taste . she barely suppresses the urge to wince as she wipes her mouth with the back of her hand, letting out the slightest sound of dismay at vic's decision to finally leave . flick blows out a long breath then, squeezing her eyes shut tight to mentally prepare as she finally unbuckles herself and moves to leave the car with a steady stream of, " fuck . fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck ." she swallows thickly as she gets to her feet outside of the car . " no, you're right . they can't make us stay ." those five words become flick's mantra on the way up to the doors of the church . they can't make them stay . they can't make them stay . they can't —"

" you're both late ." the words that fall from adam's lips are sharp with distaste . flick kind of feels the disapproval settle somewhere low in her stomach, like maybe she really was in a sunday church service . the annoyed look in adam's eyes doesn't lessen the feeling . " i'd like to say i'm surprised but that would be a lie so there's really no point ."

As Vic takes in the sight of the church through her car's windshield, there's a growing resentment that begins to build at knowing what's about to happen. This shouldn't be a part of her life anymore. Why was it her job to ensure whatever had killed back then stopped killing now? All that sense of moral obligation was easy enough when there were miles and state lines separating her from this shit place. Now all she feels is regret at even agreeing to come along - surely she could be doing something better with her time than this. Flick voicing the same thoughts going on in her head at least makes her feel a tad better. Turning in her seat, she grabs her purse from the backseat. She rifles through it, pulling out the flask that's hidden inside. Vic's quick to untwist the cap and take a swig of its contents before passing it over to Flick. A ragged breath falls from her lip, the alcohol not really helping much. "We're in agreement there. I mean, if we're meeting here, shouldn't there be other people involved? Why exactly do we need to be this place's protectors? When the hell did I agree to that?" Sure, she had at one point, but she'd been a child. A dumb, know-nothing-at-all teen. Why the hell should her words then mean anything now? "Fuck," she breathes out, unbuckling herself and shoving open the car door. "Just bring it -- let's go. We can always leave if this ends up being a waste of time. It's not like they can hold us hostage and make us stay."
