[ad_1] On its busiest days, Venice swells with tourists who clog the city’s narrow streets, leave behind piles of garbage and often frustrate locals. So the canal-crossed city is fighting back.Starting on April 25, and for another 29 days scattered mostly around national holidays and weekends through mid-July, day trippers to the historic part of Venice will have to pay 5 euros, about $5.40, a measure that city officials hope will encourage people to come during less busy times.All visitors to Venice will also have to register their presence in the city on the specified days, filling out an online form that will help officials gauge how many visitors to expect and strategize about how to handle them.“It’s not about making money — the costs of the operation are higher than what we’re going to make,” Mayor Luigi Brugnaro told reporters on Thursday as Venetian officials kicked off a global advertising campaign. Instead, said Michele Zuin, the city official in charge of budgeting and economics, the aim is “to better manage the numbers of tourists and disincentivize mass tourism, which is what creates, let’s say, the difficulty of living in this city.”Visitors staying overnight in Venice will not have to pay, nor will those traveling there to work, to visit relatives or to study. Anyone born in the city is also exempt, as are minors under 14. And Mr. Brugnaro said there would be no cap on the number of visitors allowed in.Rising improbably from the waters of the Venetian lagoon, the city is as delicate as it is beautiful, and in recent decades it has struggled to protect a uniqueness that is threatened by climate change and rising seas, as well as by mass tourism.To counter that figurative and literal erosion, the city has installed giant gates at four mouths of the lagoon to keep seawater out and pavements dry, and banned cruise ships from the inner canals. Those efforts helped keep Venice off UNESCO’s list of “World Heritage in Danger” even after experts at the agency raised concerns last year that Italy had not done enough to protect the city.From 1976 until this year, Italy had allocated funds to help safeguard Venice, and on Thursday, Mr. Brugnaro chided the country’s central government for not renewing that funding. He said he had asked the government for €1.5 billion for the next 10 years to help preserve a city with a unique heritage that requires continuous maintenance.“We need that financing,” he said.Occasionally, days have been so busy with tourists that the city has had to limit some streets to one-way pedestrian traffic.Simone Venturini, the city official in charge of tourism, said of the new measures, “We will be the first city in the world to know exactly how many tourists will come to Venice that day — whether exempt or paying, they have to register.”After registering on the website, visitors will receive a QR code — valid from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. — that they will be required to show when entering the city at points like the train station, Piazzale Roma, the municipal parking lot, some beachfront locations and St. Mark’s Square. There will also be spot checks throughout the city.For now, anyone arriving in Venice without a QR code will be allowed to buy it at the last minute, either on a smartphone or at kiosks set up leading up to the access points, officials said.Transgressors will face fines of €50 to €300 plus a €10 fee, Mr. Zuin said.The initiative is being introduced on a trial basis so that city officials can see whether the system works and how it can be improved, he said. In the future, the entry fee could be calibrated — “a sliding scale of prices,” Mayor Brugnaro said — depending on the day.“We’re asking for collaboration,” Mr. Brugnaro said, adding that the data accumulated during the 29 days would be made public. VEGAS SUBPLOTS.

please ready fully before taking a subplot. for our week long event , i wrote up some ( or took suggestions for ) subplots ––– or small side plots that you can be involved in. there are some that will only have one slot open and some that will be open to more , so make sure you read the details. this will be updated as people ask to fill the spots. they’re first come first serve , so scoop one up if you like it. just to keep this consistent , please im/dm the main to fill a subplot , i will not fill slots through ims on my characters or discord. please im the main only with the subplot number + your characters name. if they all fill up , i will write more ! you’re welcome to one slot per character unless saturday hits and there are still slots open. in that case , i’ll let you guys know and you can fill a second+ spot to make sure everyone has a full plot. these are totally optional ! 

you’ve obviously allowed to plot other things that happen individually , but we thought that it would be fun to have some specific plots that you guys can know about ooc to stir up some drama and create some plot points for the group. you can decide with your subplot partner(s) when the subplot takes place. please do not assume knowledge of any subplot until those characters have made it clear that it’s happened ! 

EXTRA VEGAS DETAILS.

they are traveling in whatever way with whoever you decide , but mostly they will be traveling by car in friend groups. hotel check in time is at 3 pm pst / 6 pm est ! they are all staying at the same hotel and pitched in to get a handful of rooms that they can share. room hopping is encouraged !

during the week , you can use the tag lex.vegas to tag starters , social media posts , etc. please also keep using lex.start to keep track of starters. they will be in vegas from saturday until friday night , 3 pm est / 6 pm est and the event will be played out in real time ––– so each day is a new day in vegas ! if you have any questions about the event , subplots , etc. please ask me !

no one knows how these four all ended up spending time together , but they’re gone literally all night because they ended up getting lost. they started walking , trying to find a bar , and now it’s 6 am and they’re finally rolling back up to the hotel and boy did they get into some shit when they were lost. ( what happened while they were lost is to be discussed by the 4 players ! )

deciding the main strip wasn’t all they wanted to focus on , these two decided to take a trip of their own and head down to the red rock canyon conservation area for some exploring. sure , their friends are all drunk at a club on the strip , but to them ––– this seemed like a better idea.

of course it had to happen. drunk and out of control , these two actually tried have have a vegas wedding. no one knows why , one second they were partying and next , elvis himself was having them say i do. thankfully , elvis’ notary certification expired four years ago , but unthankfully , it takes a minute for them to realize that.

despite the fact that the club was closed for a bachelors party , these few decided to find a way to sneak their way in and crash it ––– and it’s definitely not their fault if someone accidentally ends up sleeping with the groom to be.

apparently the hangover can relate to real life because three friends spend literally forever looking for the fourth friend who , unironically , fell asleep when they were on the roof of their hotel partying the night before. thankfully , no tigers were involved in the partying , and they find their friend without making too much of a ruckus , though they were this close to getting the police involved.

they decided to give their shot at gambling and ended up hitting it pretty big at the casino ! everyone was shocked and maybe it caused the group to go a little hard trying to win for themselves , but this person took their winnings and happily cashed in for the week.

they don’t know how it happened. one minute , they were at a club minding their own business , and the next minute they’re in the vip lounge with literal celebrities. the bragging rights are definitely there , because no one else was able to get lucky enough to get it !

Belfast’s ELDER DRUID Debuts Deadly LP ‘Carmina Satanae’

Belfast, Northern Ireland's occult-laced riff dealers ELDER DRUID have been turning heads in the scene ever since their inception in early 2015. With the marriage of melodic dual guitar riffs and crushingly heavy vocals and low end, they've already begun to make their mark upon the world of doom, stoner, and sludge. Raw energy is at the core of the young band's unique approach to the heavy doom sound, and now they have finally recorded and are about to release their long awaited debut full length record entitled 'Carmina Satanae' (2017).

Today, Doomed & Stoned is giving the album its world premiere, ahead of its release on Friday, October 6th. You can pre-order the CD here. While you listen, check out my recent interview with the band, below!

What was it like recording at Start Together Studio in Belfast?

Start Together was absolutely killer from the get-go. Niall Doran was the man at the helm and strangely enough he was the first guy to ever buy an Elder Druid shirt so that, among other reasons, helped our decision to record there. It’s an incredible studio and after seeing some of the albums that have been created in that building, it seemed like the obvious choice. We recorded the entire album in a live environment and that really helped us get the raw, heavy doom sound we wanted.

Tell us a bit about the name, 'Carmina Satanae', and why you chose it.

‘Carmina Satanae’ loosely translates to ‘Songs of Satan’. We were throwing around ideas for Latin phrases and I just happened to think ‘Hmm… I wonder what Songs of Satan translates to’. We all just liked the phrase and thought it’d be something different to go with. The songs have always had some form of occult inclination so it seemed fitting.

Do you feel that you took many new musical directions as a band during the writing of this record?

Yes, definitely. These new tracks have so much more primal heaviness to them compared to the previous releases. We just wanted a total wall of dropped down guitars and bass and this is the first time it has sounded so full and heavy. The styles of songs are definitely a little different too. We have a couple faster, grooving tracks compared to the very slow, sludgy stuff we’re used to playing. Dale also added some synth this time round so that was something completely new for us but fuck does it sound good.

Any plans for vinyl?

We definitely do. At this stage we are a month away from the album launch and our main objectives are getting CDs and shirts printed but hopefully closer to Christmas time we’ll have some vinyl available. I know it’s very high on everyone’s wish list.

After releasing a series of EPs and live sessions over a couple of years, you guys have definitely defined your sound as your own. Do you feel you have grown and changed sonically since the release of 'Magicka', nearly a year ago?

Yeah there’s no doubt about that. When we released ‘Magicka’ we had only been a band for about a year and half. We’ve now played a shit ton more gigs and have had way more time to play together as a unit and find out what works for us best. There’s a few tracks we don’t play at all anymore and some we’ve chopped up and made into new songs, using the bits we really liked. In general, we have way more of a complete sound now that we’ve had time to season ourselves more.

You guys just played the inaugural Emerald Haze fest in Dublin. How cool of an experience was that?

Emerald Haze was a great experience. A year ago, the festival had barely even been conceived and it went off without a hitch. We got to open proceedings on The Obelisk stage which was a total honor. JJ Koczan from The Obelisk had made the journey from the States to Dublin for the fest as one of the stages was named after his site. There were so many incredible bands including Church of the Cosmic Skull, Lord Vicar, Ten Ton Slug, Electric Octopus, to name a few.

Any big shows coming up?

We have our album launch show in Belfast soon with Nomadic Rituals, Molarbear and Voodoo Blood. In October we play the Siege of Limerick for the first time in Dolans, Limerick. That should be a very hefty gig, with Orange Goblin as the main headliners. We have a London show in Camden in November with Witch Tripper, Sinners Sermon and Master Charger then we play the second annual United in Fuzz Festival in Mansfield, England in December. Also highly looking forward to an Irish Invasion on St Patrick’s Day 2018 when we play The Dev in Camden with Chubby Thunderous Bad Kush Masters, Ten Ton Slug and Mount Soma.

Stoner-doom has quite the tight knit and ever expanding scene. How do you feel that Northern Ireland fits into that, locally and in the bigger picture?

Locally, the Northern Ireland stoner-doom scene is pretty damn strong. We are never short of finding likeminded bands in both Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland. The bigger picture speaks for itself as well with the lords of our scene, Slomatics, playing at Psycho Festival in Las Vegas this year. People dig riffs and this country is overflowing with them!

Following the release of 'Carmina Satanae', what's next for Elder Druid?

We have a fair few shows coming up over the next few months so probably play the album 'til we’re sick of hearing it and then get stuck straight into album #2. We have a couple tours planned for 2018, as well, but will have more concrete information about that further down the line. We’d love to try and hit some festivals next year, so that’s another priority but we’ll see how things pan out. I’m a lead for a creative and dev team - the official title is “e-learning and mobile lead” but I mostly try to point where my team should go and when I need it done. They’re dedicated and much more talented than I am. On my down time, I help out with a friend’s luxury travel booking site by consulting on their community management. 2. What is one of your guilty pleasures? Psychological thrillers and watching documentaries on all things related to abnormal psychology. 3. What is the title of the movie of your life? “‘Oh No’: The Life and Times of Aby Ang”. 4. If you could go back in time what would you tell your 16 year old self? I’d sit myself down and say, “be kinder to yourself and to your family”. 5. If you can be teleported anywhere around the world, where would it be and why? Iceland - haven’t been there. Or spicy chickenjoy pero hindi leg part! 8. If you could trade places with anyone right now, for a week, who would it be and why? Whoever Chris Evans is sleeping with. For obvious purposes! Haha! 9. What is the best present you ever received? I’ve been told to be the most difficult person to buy a gift for, but the best one I received is from one of my friends in my previous work. There were 6 of us within the group, and she gave us 6 goodybags with trinkets within it that were chosen specifically for each of our personalities and wants. It’s really sweet and must have taken her a long time to gather. 10. If you could meet a famous or not so famous person, who would that be and why? Can we include the ones who already passed? If yes, I’d like to meet my grandparents again. Hug them tighter and tell them I love them. 11. How old should a person start traveling? Vague question: traveling alone or traveling with other people? I’ve travelled with my family since I was a kid, but I started traveling on my own when I was 18. My take is: it doesn’t matter what your age is. If you can afford to travel without starving afterwards, go for it. 12. What is your best experience in traveling/living in the Philippines? It’s difficult to look into the bright side when majority of what I see, hear, and feel in this country are leaning towards frustration and helplessness. The daily commute is horrible, the cities are congested, the pay has a huge room for improvement - but whenever I leave the country for long periods of time, I always find myself wanting to go back because it’s home. Time flies a little slower here, you know? I get kinder here and much less likely to verbally eviscerate someone. The best experience traveling locally so far? El Nido, Palawan with someone very important to me. The place is absolutely breathtaking and the people are ridiculously hospitable. 13. In one sentence, how would you like people to remember you? “Holy shit, that woman is spitfire."
