Black Untitled #1

This is my first-ever post here on Tumblr.

Blackness, the Black Diaspora, Melanation, and my “Black and Brown” brothers and sisters the world over, I salute you.

A few thoughts on my mind as I create this platform for my mind:

1) I’m black.

2) Blackness is my goddess.

3) Blackness is liberating.

4) Melanation is a gift from the Divine Creator, cherish it.

As I write this, it’s a sunny day where I am right now. I sit here on my front porch gazing out onto the flowers, the green grass, the street and trees beyond. The sun shines bright. It’s hot, but comfortable in the shade. Gentle breezes move and meander invisibly through the ether. I listen with earbuds to “Low to the Street” by Lord Echo, featuring Lisa Tomlins. It’s peaceful, at least in this very moment. However, when I think about the many moments being had elsewhere at this very moment in time from others around this nation, and around the world, injustice is taking place as I smash every keystroke to get out my thoughts. Amid the myriad historical issues of racial injustice and violence, one main issue takes hold in my mind: THE INSTITUTION OF WHITE SUPREMACY and its conjugal relationship with CAPITALISM.

I have created this Tumblr as a way for me to project my mental thoughts and energies out into the world and initiate a way to dismantle the Institution of White Supremacy. I had a lovely daydream recently. In that daydream, I drifted into a Universe where all melanated people of the world banded together to annihilate the Institution of White Supremacy by doing a few homework assignments:

1) Reject any and all products sold that try to change and your blackness and melanation, that also includes supporting that business in general

2) Demand more of, or create your own (preferred), media programming that center more dynamic melanated characters at the forefront; this also includes intentional employment of more melanated writers, directors, make-up artists, etc.

3) Support and patronize black-owned business, support and patronize small businesses owned by melanated persons;

4) Learn your roots in Africana and spend more time with those that look like you.

5) Being black and being melanated in this world is hard. Inspire, encourage, uplift, and mentor those that look like you and support them.

Those whose support capitalism, know that you are also supporting an institution that was created out of slavery. Capitalism builds wealth for a few and benefits only the few. Employ empathy, compassion, and equity at your next venture and transaction.

That’s all I got for now, although so much is on my mind. May this reach you well.

Back to studies of trafficking and indigenous women. This is from the Kaye, (19). The friend who recommended Shattered Hearts to me told me it was hard going, and I interpreted that as “hard to read because of the misogynist and white supremacist violence” which is definitely present but it’s mostly hard to read because it relies very much on an anti-sex worker rights perspective, shaped by discredited (because she’s sloppy and lied) feminist researcher Melissa Farley. Shattered Hearts is the only research I’ve found into abuse and exploitation of indigenous women in the states, and as I’ve said elsewhere, the relationship that indigenous women and Black women have with sex work is complicated by the history of centuries of rape and sexual abuse for the profit of white men, so I don’t want to discount that point of view in Shattered Hearts, but it’s also filled with unverifiable speculation that’s very typical to anti-rights feminists.

If you’re interested in me taking pictures of and discussing this research anyway, let me know! I’m going to finish it, but it’s not what I was hoping for and it’s not close to the quality of Julie Kaye’s work (which again focuses on Canada).
