Someone on one of my Facebook groups was telling about her mom getting trapped in their feed barn when the wind blew the door shut. It reminded me of the time it happened to me in my chicken house. The wire that was supposed to release the latch came off in my hand! This was morning and it would be hours before I would be missed-when my husband came home from work or my teenage son awakened. Since I would not be there to wake him, it could be noon or later before he would wake up on his own. And then no telling if or when he would even come looking for me. Probably when he got hungry...So it was up to me to extricate myself from the situation if I wanted out any time soon. Luckily when I made this house, I put in a small window/door where my chickens could come and go if I were away from home. I could leave the big door closed and it would deter predators from getting in. There was a ladder-like perch on the outside of the house they could use to re-enter. I look at it now and wonder how I got up and out that door.
