I found a bunch of smol babies today! I caught and released them :3 I saw three others but they were way too fast for me, haha.

We all know about the New Mexico whiptail (Aspidoscelis neomexicanus), but did you know that there are several other species in the Aspidoscelis genus that are also all-female (as they reproduce exclusively by parthenogenesis)? Here are some of them!

Common checkered whiptail (Aspidoscelis tesselatus)

Desert grassland whiptail (Aspidoscelis uniparens)

Plateau striped whiptail (Aspidoscelis velox)

Chihuahuan spotted whiptail (Aspidoscelis exsanguis)

There’s also a few all-female species in the Cnemidophorus genus!

What's the difference between that momma Whiptail and a Blue Tailed Skink? I have those skinks around my house and I could have sworn that Whiptail was one

Blue tailed skinks have both males and females, with the females retaining the blue tail. Desert grassland racerunners are an all female species that all lose most of the blue in their tail in adulthood :) They are completely different species and are found more in the south east, rather than the south west that the racerunners are found :)

Wiggles is getting so much better with being handled! She also likes to blink during pictures a lot.

Had to clean wiggles cage today, and fed her right after for being such a cooperative lizard baby :)

Had to get wiggles out of her cage so I could get it clean (She spilled her water and I didn’t want it to mold) and she got so mad oh my gosh. It was the funniest thing she sat there and chewed on me for like five minutes

Man Ms Wiggles does not like to be picked up. I wouldn’t be surprised if I get a bite from her :P I’ll just let her be unless absolutely necessary, so I don’t stress her out too bad. She’s so pretty though :) (Also, yes that is a gun. Please don’t freak out about it, it’s just a home defence gun. )
