Four People Pleaded Guilty to Human Smuggling
Tumblr media
Four people have pleaded guilty to human smuggling, as announced by U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani. McALLEN, TX (STL.News) A total of four people have pleaded guilty to human smuggling, announced U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani. Jose Quezada-Gamez, 29, Tamaulipas, Mexico, pleaded guilty to functioning as a guide for undocumented aliens attempting to cross the Rio Grande and enter the United States illegally. Derly Crescencio Medina, 27, McAllen, and Jessica Dinora Pena-Rodriguez, 48, Tamaulipas, admitted housing undocumented aliens at a residence near San Juan. Rogelio Gonzalez III, 29, Edinburg, entered his plea to transport undocumented aliens further north into the United States. Authorities arrested all four following an investigation into a extensive smuggling ring operating in the McAllen area. They apprehended Quezada-Gamez near the Rio Grande guiding a group of aliens into the United States from Mexico. Gonzalez was taken into custody near Premont as the driver of a vehicle containing multiple undocumented aliens. At the time of the pleas, all four admitted to knowingly transporting or harboring undocumented aliens for financial gain. U.S. District Judge Randy Crane will impose sentencing on August 10.  At that time, each faces up to 10 years in prison and a possible $250,000 maximum fine. All four have been and will remain in custody pending that hearing. Border Patrol conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Theodore Parran III is prosecuting the case. Qatar Shake up Copa America with Thrilling Comeback Against Paraguay
Tumblr media
Qatar fought their way back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Paraguay in their first ever Copa America game on Sunday in Rio de Janeiro.   They nonetheless proved they would be no pushovers in the tournament by pulling off a thrilling revival at a near-empty Maracana stadium. The 2022 World Cup hosts are one of two guest teams at the South American championship along with Japan.   However, their debut got off to a nightmare start when Paraguay’s Oscar Cardozo smashed in from the penalty kick spot in the fourth minute.   Qatar, who swept to victory at the Asian Cup by scoring 19 goals and only conceding once, caused their opponents plenty of problems later in the half.   But they failed to capitalise, with striker Almoez Ali missing a glaring attempt from close range. Early in the second half Cardozo had another strike ruled out after a VAR review. But Paraguay did not have to wait long to double their lead as Derlis Gonzalez struck in the 56th minute with a long-range rocket. Qatar’s brave performance looked to be in vain until Ali made amends for spurning an earlier sitter. He pulled his side back into the game with a distance strike which looped into the net in the 68th minute. Nine minutes later, Boualem Khoukhi levelled with a scrappy finish helped by some poor goalkeeping from Paraguay’s Robert Fernandez.   “We dominated the game in several phases and in spite of being 2-0 down the team never stopped believing,” said Qatar’s Spanish manager Felix Sanchez, who began his coaching career in FC Barcelona’s youth system. Matias Rojas squandered a chance to restore Paraguay’s lead late on but Qatar could have snatched victory themselves in stoppage time.   This was when they burst forward on the counter-attack, but the promising move came to an end due to a misplaced pass. Colombia lead Group B on three points after beating Argentina 2-0 on Saturday, while Paraguay and Qatar have a point each. Qatar meet Colombia on Wednesday, with Paraguay facing fourth-placed Argentina. Paraguay coach Eduardo Berizzo, meanwhile, criticised his side for failing to keep possession. “Our midfield was not capable of holding on to the ball. We really struggled to play our usual style,” he said. “We were facing a very good team and we needed to construct more plays in midfield. The result is both a prize and a punishment for what we did in the game.” Read the full article

Uruguay 4-0 Ecuador: Luis Suarez & Edinson Cavani both score in Copa America
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Luis Suarez has now scored 57 goals for Uruguay, 10 more than strike partner Edinson Cavani
Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani scored as Uruguay thrashed 10-man Ecuador 4-0 in their Group C Copa America opener.
Nicolas Lodeiro opened the scoring early on before Uruguay made the most of their player advantage, as an Arturo Mina own goal completed the rout.
Ecaudor’s Jose Quintero was sent off for an elbow on 24 minutes after the referee consulted VAR.
In Group B, Paraguay squandered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with 2022 World Cup hosts Qatar.
Argentina ‘bitter’ following defeat to Colombia
Brazil booed despite win over Bolivia
Uruguay – who have won the Copa America a record 15 times – started strongly in Belo Horizonte, with Seattle Sounders midfielder Lodeiro scoring in just the sixth minute,
Quintero then received a red card for a flailing arm. The 28-year-old had initially been shown a yellow, but it was converted to red after referee Anderson Daronco consulted VAR.
Paris St-Germain’s Cavani scored an acrobatic bicycle-kick before Barcelona forward Luis Suarez tapped home a record 57th international goal to make it 3-0 before half-time.
Mina’s volleyed own goal in the 78th minute compounded Ecuador’s miserable night.
Ecuador head coach Hernan Dario Gomez said his side were “not as bad as that” with the game “getting away from us” after the sending off.
Paraguayscored through an Oscar Cardozo penalty and a Derlis Gonzalez strike but Asian championsQatar– who received an invite to the 12-team South American tournament along with Japan – hit back through Almoez Ali and a calamitous Rodrigo Rojas own goal.
Colombia beat Argentina 2-0 on Saturday in Group B’s other game.
Monday is a Copa America rest day before Bolivia face Peru in Group A on Tuesday (22:30 BST) and Chile take on Japan in Group C (00:00 BST Wednesday).

Corinthians vence e quebra invencibilidade do Santos em clássico
Tumblr media
