I want to know about books 11, 22, 33, 44 and 55 💫
Thanks for asking! Lol, typically for me, every one of these is a mystery, but they're all pretty different!
11. Light Thickens, Ngaio Marsh - The final Roderick Alleyn mystery (not that they need to be read in order). This does actually have some characters return from a mystery set (and written) several years before this one; they have aged, but Alleyn apparently has not. It's a good stand-alone mystery set in a play house (one of Marsh's favorite things to write about), with various references to Macbeth.
22. The Redeemers, Ace Atkins - This is book 5 in the Quinn Colson mystery series, I spent a lot of the beginning of last year tearing through them (11 total), slowed down only by waiting for library holds to come in. The sort of arc of the series (which does take place over 10 or so years, each book set ~when it was published) is that former Army Ranger Quinn Colson comes back to his hometown in Mississippi and then runs for sheriff so as to get rid of the old corrupt sheriff - and then takes down a crime lord, and has to quit being sheriff, and gets voted back in, and another crime lord takes over... Anyway, they're grittier/more violent than a lot of the mysteries I read, but I was hooked. All the characters felt very well-rounded - all the good guys have significant flaws, but I love them anyway, and (almost) all the bad guys have moments where they're sympathetic, if not redeemable.
33. The Night She Died, Dorothy Simpson - OK, so I can't think of anything particularly wrong with this book, but I forgot I read it until looking #33 up for this list. The first in yet another mystery series (published 1980, set in England), and it was...fine? I didn't read any others in the series, but I did finish the book, so it was gripping enough for that!
44. One, Two, Buckle My Shoe, Agatha Christie - A Poirot book; Poirot goes to the dentist, and then later in the day, the dentist is found murdered! If you've read any Poirot stuff, then you have an idea where things go from there. This was a reread, I like the more domestic Christie books (as opposed to international intrigue).
55. Relic, Douglas Preston with Lincoln Child - This is also first in a series, called the Pendergast series. I actually remember why I read this - I saw several books from the series in the library, and was intrigued, so when I got home I found the first one on Libby. Honestly not sure that "mystery" is the best description - maybe a combo of horror and thriller and some supernatural elements. I did like this first one - it's gripping, and Pendergast is a charismatic character. There's some funky pseudoscience in this one (think Jurassic Park) to explain some pretty fantastic things, but it's made to sound reasonable; I read two more in the series, but when it looked like Pendergast was actually starting to time travel with the power of his mind in the third one, I decided not to read the other 19(!).
(Send me a number 1 - 206 and I'll tell you about a book I read in 2023!)

Finding the Perfect Smile Your Guide to Chicago Dentists Near Me
In the bustling metropolis of Chicago, maintaining optimal oral health is essential. Whether you're a long-time resident or a newcomer to the Windy City, finding a trusted dentist nearby can be the key to a bright and healthy smile. With an array of options available, it's crucial to navigate through the choices to find the perfect fit for your dental needs. Let's explore the world of dentistry in Chicago and discover the best practices for finding a dentist near you.
Tumblr media
Chicago, known for its diverse neighborhoods and vibrant culture, is also home to numerous skilled dentists and dental clinics. From general dentistry to specialized services such as orthodontics and cosmetic dentistry, the options are plentiful. When searching for a dentist nearby, several factors come into play, including location, services offered, qualifications, and patient reviews.
Location is often a primary consideration when selecting a dentist. Fortunately, Chicago offers dental practices in various neighborhoods, making it convenient to find one close to your home or workplace. Whether you reside in the Loop, Lincoln Park, Lakeview, or any other neighborhood, there's likely a dentist nearby to serve your needs.
Next, consider the range of services provided by the dental practice. While routine check-ups and cleanings are essential, you may also require specific treatments such as fillings, root canals, or dental implants. Additionally, if you're interested in enhancing your smile through cosmetic procedures like teeth whitening or veneers, ensure that the dentist offers these services as well.
Qualifications and experience are paramount when entrusting someone with your dental care. Look for a dentist who is licensed and accredited, with a track record of providing high-quality care. Many dental practices in Chicago boast skilled professionals who stay updated on the latest advancements in dentistry through continuing education and training.
One of the most effective ways to gauge the quality of a dentist is by reading patient reviews. Websites like Google, Yelp, and Healthgrades provide valuable insights into the experiences of others who have visited the dental practice. Pay attention to reviews regarding the dentist's bedside manner, the efficiency of the staff, and the overall atmosphere of the clinic.
In addition to these considerations, it's essential to assess your personal preferences and comfort level. Some people may prefer a dentist who communicates openly and takes the time to address their concerns, while others may prioritize a modern, state-of-the-art facility. By identifying your priorities, you can narrow down your options and find a dentist who aligns with your preferences.
Once you've compiled a list of potential dentists, take the time to schedule consultations or introductory appointments. This allows you to meet the dentist in person, tour the facility, and ask any questions you may have about their approach to dental care. Pay attention to how the dentist and staff make you feel; a welcoming and professional environment can make all the difference in your dental experience.
Ultimately, finding the perfect dentist near you in Chicago is a process that requires careful consideration and research. By evaluating factors such as location, services offered, qualifications, patient reviews, and personal preferences, you can make an informed decision that leads to a long-lasting partnership for your oral health.
The journey to a healthy smile begins with finding the right dentist. With a wealth of options available in Chicago, take the time to explore your choices and find a dental practice that meets your needs and exceeds your expectations. Whether you're due for a routine check-up or seeking specialized treatment, your smile deserves nothing but the best care from a trusted dentist near you.

Odd weather. Bright sunlight giving way to rain. I am en route to the dentist when the rain starts up. Didn't bring umbrella. Dammit.
Visit to dentist goes okay. I have been with the same dentist for decades. Married to another dentist, they have three sons. I think that over the years I have greatly contributed to the boys' educations. We talk. She tells me about her sons. I tell her about my grandchildren. Much relieved that the bill is less than I guessed. Whew.
Bus back across town. I get off on Central Park West. There is that bicycle, chained to a post, a memorial to a young lady who was fatally struck by a taxi there while pedalling in the bike lane. So sad. Tiny stuffed animals...a poem posted, written in her memory. Poor girl.
Home.
Check in with Kenichi. He is working, of course, despite being in some pain. Toughing it out.
Wednesday, August 9, 2023
At first light the workers begin drilling and hammering, wanting to get in their time before the heat closes in.
Continued problems with computer. Damn. (A virus, I think.)
Evening: At Lincoln Center they are gearing up for another loud music evening. Hip hop? The pulsing rhythm. All the same tempo. 120 beats per minute. Funny...someone told me, years ago, that to remember that tempo (standard march tempo) just think of "Stars and Stripes Forever." (Perhaps the same person who said that when thinking of the pitch "A" imagine an orchestra tuning up.)
At close of day I realize I should have walked more. Dammit. Gotta get in those steps.
to be continued

Although Lambeth and South Bank are located south of the Thames and not within Camden, they contribute to the broader cultural scene that Camden residents can easily access. To the east of Camden, beyond Islington, lies the diverse and bustling borough of Hackney, which provides a distinct cultural blend of its own. Choosing a Family Dentist Made Easy
Tumblr media
Ensuring good oral health for you and your family is crucial for maintaining healthy teeth and gums. If you have children or are planning to have kids, establishing a habit of regular dental checkups, at least twice a year, is essential. However, we understand that going to the dentist can be a daunting experience for children. If you're having trouble finding a friendly dentist, here are some tips and recommendations to help you make the right choice.
Creating a Welcoming Environment While You Wait
Look for dental offices that prioritize patient comfort by providing ample and comfortable seating, reading materials, television, and toys. Having distractions available can make the waiting time more enjoyable, especially for children.
Child-Friendly Care
Families should seek a dentist who can build a rapport with all their patients, especially children. No parent wants to drag their kids to a dentist they perceive as mean or unfriendly. Dentists lincoln park should aim to establish a connection with their young patients and make them feel as comfortable as possible. While not a requirement, family dentists who have children of their own are often preferred for obvious reasons.
The Receptionist Sets the Tone
The receptionists are the first point of contact at a dental office. Take note of whether they are friendly, organized, and attentive to their work. Their demeanor and behavior can provide insights into how the rest of the staff may handle your needs and those of your family. If the receptionist treats patients with respect and is good with children, it indicates a positive culture and atmosphere within that dental practice.
State-of-the-Art Technology & Diverse Services
Consider the range of services provided by the dentist. Offices equipped with modern technology and up-to-date procedures are ideal for your family's needs. Additionally, if you can find a family dentist who is also an orthodontist, performs cosmetic dental procedures, or even specializes in oral surgery, it can foster a stronger relationship between your family and the dental practice.
Appointment Availability
It is important to have a family dentist who is accessible for regular appointments as well as emergencies. Nothing is more frustrating than having to wait for weeks or months to get an appointment with your dentist! Ensure that your dental office manages appointments efficiently and promptly accommodates unexpected emergencies.
Ultimately, your choice will depend on what you consider most important. If you are new to a town or are looking for a new dentist, keep searching; you will find the perfect family dentist who will become a valued part of your family's life.

The streetscapes of Cincinnati are always changing. Businesses come and go, old buildings are torn down, and new ones are built.
Top Image:
In 1895, the northwest corner of 7th and Race Streets was dominated by "The Columbia Painless Dentists, which was run by Dr. Edgar M. Poole .  One of the large signs posted on the outside of the building reads "Painless Extractions with cocaine air or gas".
An advertisement for the business placed in a 1907 edition of the Cincinnati Post reads:
“Oftentimes, inspection is forced of the teeth.  This is wrong.  The teeth should be examined frequently for signs of decay and given the proper attention. We will fill them for 50 cents or extract them painlessly.  Our prices are the most reasonable. Call and see.”
The Collins and Bruggemann Co. Art Store can be seen in the one-story building to the right of Columbia Dentists, under a sign that reads " Collins and Bruggemann Pictures and Frames".  The business moved to 4th street when these building were torn down.
The distinctive Lincoln Club building can be seen at the far end of the block on 8th Street.

Located on the corner of Race and 8th, the Lincoln Club of Cincinnati was a Republican social organization. Founded in 1879, the club counted many prominent citizens as members, including Charles Fleishmann, who served as a Vice President, and William Howard Taft.
Their headquarters building at 8th and Race was built in 1886, and designed by Samuel Hannaford.
The three story neo-Romanesque structure was remodeled in 1895.  After the Lincoln Club folded, the Rudolph Wurlitzer Company purchased the building and leased space to the Cincinnati Automobile Club.  The building was razed in 1929, and the site remained a parking lot until the Garfield Tower was built in the late 1960's.

The northwest corner of 7th and Race Streets in 1921. Originally known as the Robertson Building, this 8-story building was built circa 1910 by the Robertson Realty Company at a cost of $90,000. In 1911 it was sold to Jefferson Livingston, the owner of the Snyder Preserve Company, who renamed named the building after himself. The Pearl Market Bank purchased the entire Livingston Block for $325,000 in 1921.
