Expert Insights on the Duration of Wisdom Tooth Extraction
Wisdom tooth extraction is a standard dental procedure that many patients have to undergo. But how long does it take to complete the tooth extraction in San Antonio? It depends on the individual situation and the complexity of the procedure, but typically tooth extractions can last anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours. Since tooth extractions are so varied and unique, the best way to get an accurate estimate for your particular tooth extraction is by consulting with a qualified San Antonio dentist at one of the many available dental offices in San Antonio.
The duration of wisdom tooth extractions can vary greatly depending on factors such as how much bone there is around the tooth, how difficult it is to remove, any infection present, how many teeth need an extraction, and the tooth's proximity to other structures such as nerves or sinuses.
For example, an impacted tooth may require more time and special tools for removal, while a tooth that is already somewhat exposed may be quicker and easier to extract. Your San Antonio dentist can provide a more accurate timeframe for tooth extraction after assessing the unique characteristics of your tooth or teeth.
It’s essential to be aware that tooth extractions can cause swelling, bruising, and minor bleeding in the area surrounding the tooth. To reduce these symptoms, your dental professional may recommend taking pain medication and following post-op instructions like eating soft foods, avoiding strenuous activities, drinking plenty of fluids, etc.
Wisdom tooth extraction is a standard dental procedure, but it's essential to have realistic expectations when preparing for tooth extraction in San Antonio. Reach out to one of the many qualified dental offices San Antonio has to offer for expert insights related to your tooth extraction duration.
If you have questions or concerns, contact Sonrisa Dental and discuss everything with them before the procedure. With a qualified dental professional's help, you can ensure that tooth extraction in San Antonio is safe and efficient.

Invisalign in San Antonio: The Secret to a Dazzling Smile
Are you dreaming of a smile that could light up a room? Look no further than the stunning city of San Antonio, where the secret to achieving that dazzling grin lies within Invisalign. Say goodbye to metal braces and hello to discreet, comfortable aligners designed to straighten your teeth without anyone even noticing. Join us on an enlightening journey as we uncover how Invisalign in San Antonio can transform your teeth, boost your confidence, and give you the radiant smile you've always dreamed of. Let's dive into this exciting world where elegance meets innovation!
Tumblr media
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a revolutionary treatment that helps to straighten teeth without using traditional braces. The treatment uses clear, custom-made aligners placed on your teeth one at a time. At first, you may experience some minor discomfort as your teeth move into their new positions. Still, the braces will become virtually invisible over time and improve your smile immensely.
If you're considering Invisalign in San Antonio, there are a few things to remember. First, Dr. Mancini is one of only a handful of certified Invisalign providers in Texas, and he has years of experience working with this unique technology. Second, the treatment duration typically ranges from six to twelve months, and you'll need to make at least two appointments per week for the first few weeks while your teeth are adjusting. Third, unlike traditional braces, which require metal brackets and wires permanently affixed to your teeth, Invisalign uses flexible plastic aligners that can be adjusted as needed – meaning you can eventually avoid any future tooth removal procedures!
To learn more about Invisalign in San Antonio or book an appointment with Dr. Ksenia Royal-Priest, contact our office today!
How Does Invisalign Work?
If you are unhappy with your smile, Invisalign may be your solution. This dental treatment is a series of invisible aligners that slowly shift your teeth into their desired position. You wear the aligners while eating, drinking, and talking, and in about two months, you will have a brand new smile.
There are many benefits to Invisalign:
It can be done on either children or adults.
It is reversible if you decide you no longer want it.
The treatment is affordable.
What to Expect During Your First Treatment
If you're considering Invisalign, here are a few things to know:
-The Invisalign treatment process takes approximately two months and is completely custom-fitted for each patient.
-At your first appointment, you will be seen by our team of experts, who will help you choose the best type of aligner for your needs.
-You will wear the aligners daily and must visit our office approximately every four weeks for adjustments.
-By the end of the treatment, you should see a significant difference in your overall smile!
FAQ for Invisalign in San Antonio
Is Invisalign right for me?
Invisalign is a new treatment option for Clear Correct braces. This treatment uses invisible aligners to help improve your smile. If you want a change to help you feel more confident, look into Invisalign. You can learn more about the treatment and see if it's right for you by visiting our website or speaking with one of our therapists.
How long does Invisalign take to work?
The time it takes for Invisalign to work varies from person to person. Some people experience visible changes after just a few months of treatment, while others may need several months or longer. The goal is to have you feeling as confident and good about your smile as possible so that you can maintain it over time.
Conclusion
A beautiful smile is one of the best things about being alive, and there are several ways to achieve it. Meet Dr. Prachi Deore
It has been my life-long dream to be a dentist. I owe this to my parents, both of whom are dedicated and conscientious dentists and are held in the highest regard by their peers and patients. I knew I had made the right career choice the day I treated my first patient.
I graduated from NYU College of dentistry in 2004.
The large variety of patients I treated in New York allowed me to interact with people from all walks of life. My patients were at different levels of dental awareness, education, and home dental care. This challenged my problem-solving skills and I learned to adapt dental treatment to a particular patient’s condition and to bring complex dental treatment plans, treatment options, and decisions down to a level that they could understand and could feel comfortable with.
I did a two-year General Practice Residency at UTHSC San Antonio Dental School from 2004 to 2006. The GPR expanded my horizons in patient care. In the University Hospital, I treated patients that needed dental treatment before major surgeries, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy. I also provided dental care to mentally or physically handicapped patients under general anesthesia in the OR. These patients would not have received dental care otherwise and had an increased quality of life as a result of the care. I was on call in the ER during the residency. This sharpened my diagnostic skills and people skills. I learned to think on my feet and to function on four hours of sleep!
I joined the faculty at the San Antonio Dental School as an assistant clinical professor and supervised the pre-clinical and clinical education of junior and senior dental students.
I worked for two years as an associate dentist in a multi-clinic practice in DFW, gaining valuable, real-life experience in working with patients with a variety of dental issues. I also loved working with young children and educating them and their parents about their dental health. However, I realized that I wanted to provide dental care in a much more personalized environment and Coppell Smiles was the result!
Now we are a family dental practice in Coppell, Texas. Our mission is to be the dental office you trust with the dental care of your entire family.

Climate Change Means Trouble for Power Grids (NYT) Huge winter storms plunged large parts of the central and southern United States into an energy crisis this week, with frigid blasts of Arctic weather crippling electric grids and leaving millions of Americans without power amid dangerously cold temperatures. The grid failures were most severe in Texas, where more than four million people woke up Tuesday morning to rolling blackouts. Separate regional grids in the Southwest and Midwest also faced serious strain. As of Tuesday afternoon, at least 23 people nationwide had died in the storm or its aftermath. Analysts have begun to identify key factors behind the grid failures in Texas. Record-breaking cold weather spurred residents to crank up their electric heaters and pushed power demand beyond the worst-case scenarios that grid operators had planned for. At the same time, a large fraction of the state’s gas-fired power plants were knocked offline amid icy conditions, with some plants suffering fuel shortages as natural gas demand spiked. Many of Texas’ wind turbines also froze and stopped working. The crisis sounded an alarm for power systems throughout the country. Electric grids can be engineered to handle a wide range of severe conditions—as long as grid operators can reliably predict the dangers ahead. But as climate change accelerates, many electric grids will face extreme weather events that go far beyond the historical conditions those systems were designed for, putting them at risk of catastrophic failure.
‘A complete bungle’: Texas’ energy pride goes out with cold (AP) Anger over Texas’ power grid failing in the face of a record winter freeze mounted Tuesday as millions of residents in the energy capital of the U.S. remained shivering with no assurances that their electricity and heat—out for 36 hours or longer in many homes—would return soon or stay on once it finally does. “I know people are angry and frustrated,” said Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, who woke up to more than 1 million people still without power in his city. “So am I.” In all, between 2 and 3 million customers in Texas still had no power nearly two full days after historic snowfall and single-digit temperatures created a surge in demand for electricity to warm up homes unaccustomed to such extreme lows, buckling the state’s power grid and causing widespread blackouts. More bad weather, including freezing rain, began arriving Tuesday night. Making matters worse, expectations that the outages would be a shared sacrifice by the state’s 30 million residents quickly gave way to a cold reality, as pockets in some of America’s largest cities, including San Antonio, Dallas and Austin, were left to shoulder the lasting brunt of a catastrophic power failure, and in subfreezing conditions that Texas’ grid operators had known was coming.
Military recruitment (Foreign Policy) A meager job market has given military recruitment a boost around the world, the Wall Street Journal reports. In Canada, applications to join the armed services surged 37 percent over the last nine months of 2020 compared to the previous year. Australia reported a 9.9 percent annual increase in applications. The United Kingdom met its military recruitment targets for the first time in seven years and in the United States, 92 percent of eligible personnel re-enlisted, compared to just 83 percent the previous year.
Volunteer paramedics patrol streets of Venezuela’s capital (AP) Venezuela’s deepening crisis has gutted emergency ambulance services, so a group of volunteer paramedics has stepped into the void to offer life-saving help on the tough streets of Caracas. Calling themselves Angels of the Road, the volunteer corps relies on donated medical supplies and funding from international organizations. Despite receiving no paychecks, its roughly 40 paramedics are ready at a moment’s notice to jump onto motorcycles and fire up their single ambulance and race into the streets. Jonathan Quantip, 44, said he and co-founder Zuly Rodiz launched the project two years ago after watching their native Venezuela precipitously decline over years of political and social crisis. “We Venezuelans have to solve our own country’s problems,” Quantip said. “We have to use the skills we’re each good at.” The group works on a shoestring budget with nothing left over for wages, so each paramedic relies on another source of income. Some donate their off-time after working in hospitals and firehouses. Others flip burgers in fast-food restaurants.
‘We are like captives’: life in Britain’s quarantine hotels (Reuters) Mohamed Noor faces 10 days in COVID-19 quarantine in a hotel room near London’s Heathrow Airport after falling foul of new border controls because of a flight delay. “I don’t have a book. I don’t have a Koran. I don’t have nothing here,” Noor, a 55-year-old Muslim, said by phone after his arrival on Monday, a day later than planned, landed him with a 1,750-pound ($2,400) bill. In another hotel nearby, 61-year-old Sole, who declined to give her surname, said she realised too late that the new rules would kick in before she returned from visiting friends in Chile. “We are like captives in these rooms,” she said. Britain says the measures, effective since Monday, are needed to protect its COVID-19 vaccination programme and guard against new coronavirus variants. People returning from any of 33 “high-risk” countries where travel to Britain is banned must pay 1,750 pounds for a 10-day quarantine hotel package. After being taken by bus to government-contracted hotels, they must spend most of the time in their rooms and have meals delivered to their door.
Toothless travel restrictions (Foreign Policy) Irish holidaymakers have suddenly shown a keen interest in dental hygiene as they attempt to shirk strict lockdown measures to escape the bleak North Atlantic winter. Traveling for “essential medical, health or dental services” is allowed under Ireland’s coronavirus restrictions, leading to a surge in dental surgery appointments in Spain’s Canary Islands. Roberta Beccaris, a receptionist at a dental surgeon’s office on the island of Tenerife, reported taking multiple calls from prospective Irish clients, who have demanded e-mail confirmations of the bookings. Police can issue fines to rule-breaking travelers of roughly $600, although they are powerless to stop those with proof of a medical appointment. “Obviously as they are not turning up, we now understand it is just an excuse for a holiday,” she told RTÉ radio.
Spain betting on vaccine passports to revive summer tourism (Reuters) Spain hopes the introduction of vaccination passports combined with pre-travel COVID-19 testing will allow British tourists to return to Spanish destinations this summer, a tourism ministry source told Reuters on Tuesday. The government has no plans to introduce quarantines on foreign visitors, and was also counting on a wider agreement to be hammered out between Europe and Britain to remove restrictions on non-essential travel, the official added. Over 2020, as global travel was dramatically curtailed by the coronavirus pandemic, foreign tourism to Spain—one of the world’s most visited countries—fell 80% to just 19 million visitors, a level not seen since 1969.
China steps up online controls with new rule for bloggers (AP) Ma Xiaolin frequently wrote about current affairs on one of China’s leading microblogging sites, where he has 2 million followers. But recently, he said in a post, the Weibo site called and asked him not to post original content on topics ranging from politics to economic and military issues. “As an international affairs researcher and a columnist, it looks like I can only go the route of entertainment, food and beverage now,” the international relations professor wrote on Jan. 31. Ma, who often posted on developments in the Mideast, is one of many popular influencers working within the constraints of China’s heavily censored web who is finding that their space to speak is shrinking even further with the latest policy changes and a clean-up campaign run by the country’s powerful censors. Beginning next week, the Cyberspace Administration of China will require bloggers and influencers to have a government-approved credential before they can publish on a wide range of subjects. Some fear that only state media and official propaganda accounts will get permission. The latest move is in line with ever more restrictive regulations under President Xi Jinping that constrict an already narrow space for discourse. The Chinese leader has made “digital sovereignty” a central concept of his rule, under which authorities have set limits and increased control of the digital realm.
Japan’s ruling party wants more women at meetings—unless they talk (Reuters) After a sexism row sparked by Tokyo Olympics chief’s saying women talked too much at meetings, Japan’s ruling party wants women at key meetings—but only if they don’t talk. The ruling Liberal Democratic Party has proposed a new plan that allows five female lawmakers to join the party’s key meetings as observers. Toshihiro Nikai, the party’s 82-year-old secretary general, said on Tuesday that he heard criticism that the party’s board is male-dominated, but added that the board members are elected. But it is important for the party’s female members to “look” at the party’s decision-making process, he said. Those female observers can’t speak during the meetings, but can submit opinions separately to the secretariat office, the daily newspaper Nikkei reported. Requiring female observers at meetings to remain quiet has drawn criticism that the party is out of touch.
Big protests across Myanmar as UN expert fears violence (AP) Demonstrators in Myanmar gathered Wednesday in their largest numbers so far to protest the military’s seizure of power, as a U.N. human rights expert warned that troops being brought to Yangon and elsewhere could signal the prospect for major violence. U.N. rapporteur Tom Andrews said he was alarmed by reports of soldiers being transported into Yangon, the biggest city. “In the past, such troop movements preceded killings, disappearances, and detentions on a mass scale,” he said in a statement issued late Tuesday by the U.N. Human Rights office in Geneva. “I am terrified that given the confluence of these two developments—planned mass protests and troops converging—we could be on the precipice of the military committing even greater crimes against the people of Myanmar.” Wednesday’s turnout in Yangon appeared to be one of the biggest so far in the city. Protesters have adopted a tactic of blocking off streets from security forces by parking vehicles in groups with their hoods up and the excuse of having engine trouble.
Anti-Chinese Sentiment in Myanmar (Foreign Policy) Widespread protests against the Feb. 1 military coup in Myanmar have taken on an increasingly anti-Chinese tone, with rallies held outside the Chinese Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar and calls growing for boycotts of Chinese goods and services. Misinformation is spreading, including rumors that Chinese soldiers have infiltrated Myanmar and that Chinese software will be used to set up a Great Firewall. On balance, it seems unlikely that China supported the coup, especially given its relatively good relationship with the National League for Democracy. Anti-Chinese sentiment has a long history in Myanmar, both on the national level and at the local level, due to conflicts among ethnic Chinese communities and others. Chinese investment projects have been major flash points, especially the Myitsone Dam, which was suspended in 2011 following the move toward democracy. Locals have decried the environmental impacts and forced relocations associated with such projects, while Beijing has been keen to get them restarted. There is also growing anti-Chinese feeling across Southeast Asia. Many young people see parallels between the 2019 Hong Kong protests and their own resistance against local authoritarianism. China’s tactless authoritarianism and resentment toward outsiders contributes to that solidarity, but the main driver is the willingness of local autocrats and the uber-rich to suck up to China for their own ends. That can mean, as in Myanmar’s case, that China is blamed even when it hasn’t actually done much.
Sidelining MBS (Foreign Policy) The United States will downgrade its engagement with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as part of the Biden administration’s drive to “recalibrate” relations with the kingdom, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said on Tuesday. President Joe Biden will instead conduct diplomacy through Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz, dealing a blow to the crown prince’s standing in Washington.
Gunmen kidnap at least 20 boys from Nigerian boarding school (Washington Post) Gunmen stormed a north-central Nigerian boarding school early Wednesday, kidnapping at least 20 teenage boys, the local governor said—the second mass abduction of children to shake the country in three months. The attackers raided the Government Science Secondary School in the town of Kagara before sunrise and dragged the classmates into the dense woods. Three teachers and 12 family members also vanished into the night, Abubakar Sani Bello, the governor of Niger state, said on television. Schools in the region have been shuttered. Helicopters hovered over the treetops as security forces continued their search and, by midmorning, authorities were still counting the missing.

Tips for a Positive Pediatric Dentistry Experience
Visiting the dentist can be a daunting experience for anyone, but for children, it can be especially nerve-wracking. However, a positive pediatric dentistry experience is crucial for setting the foundation for a lifetime of good oral health. While families seek the best care for their little ones, finding the right pediatric dentist is key to ensuring a comfortable and stress-free visit. Here, we'll explore some valuable tips to make every trip to the kids' dentist a positive and enjoyable one.
Choose a Pediatric Dentist with a Kid-Friendly Environment
The first step in ensuring a positive pediatric dentistry experience is selecting the right dental professional. Look for a pediatric dentist who specializes in treating children and has a welcoming, kid-friendly environment. The atmosphere of the dental office plays a crucial role in alleviating anxiety and making children feel at ease.
Kids dentists are trained to handle the unique needs of young patients, and their offices are often adorned with colorful dĂŠcor and equipped with toys and games to create a fun and friendly ambiance. This helps in establishing a positive association with dental visits from an early age.

Introduce Dental Care Early and Make it Fun
One way to ensure a positive pediatric dentistry experience is to start dental care early. As soon as your child's first tooth emerges, it's time to begin a gentle oral hygiene routine. Use a soft baby toothbrush and a small amount of fluoride toothpaste to clean your child's teeth. Making this a fun and interactive activity can help your child see dental care as a normal part of their routine.
Consider using themed toothbrushes or toothpaste featuring your child's favorite characters to make brushing more enjoyable. By instilling good oral hygiene habits early on, you set the stage for a positive attitude towards dental care, making visits to the kids' dentist less intimidating.
Schedule Regular Check-ups and Cleanings
Consistent dental check-ups and cleanings are essential for maintaining optimal oral health in children. Regular visits to a pediatric dentist in San Antonio help identify and address potential issues before they become major problems. Scheduling appointments every six months allows the dentist to monitor your child's oral development, track any changes, and provide preventive care.
During these check-ups, the dentist will also perform a thorough cleaning to remove plaque and tartar, keeping your child's teeth and gums healthy. By making these visits routine, children become more accustomed to the dental environment, reducing anxiety and promoting a positive association with dental care.
Educate and Empower Through Positive Reinforcement
Empowering children with knowledge about the importance of oral health can contribute to a positive pediatric dentistry experience. Explain the role of the dentist in keeping their smiles healthy and stress the positive aspects of dental visits. Highlighting the fun and educational aspects of the experience can help build anticipation rather than fear.
Positive reinforcement is a powerful tool in encouraging good behavior at the dentist. Praise your child for their bravery and cooperation during appointments, and consider establishing a reward system for successful visits. By creating a positive association with the dentist, children are more likely to develop a lifelong commitment to oral health.
Address Dental Anxiety with Open Communication
It's normal for children to experience some level of anxiety when visiting the dentist. Open communication between parents, children, and the pediatric dentist is crucial in addressing and alleviating these fears. Encourage your child to express their concerns and fears, and reassure them that the dentist is there to help, not hurt.
Pediatric dentists are trained to communicate effectively with children, explaining procedures in a gentle and age-appropriate manner. Knowing what to expect can significantly reduce anxiety, making the entire experience more positive. Establishing trust between the child, parents, and the dentist is essential for fostering a positive attitude toward dental care.
Finding a pediatric dentist is the first step in ensuring a positive dental experience. By creating a kid-friendly environment, introducing dental care early, scheduling regular check-ups, and employing positive reinforcement, parents can set the stage for a lifetime of good oral health. With open communication and a commitment to making dental visits enjoyable, children can develop a positive attitude toward dental care that lasts into adulthood.
Remember, a positive pediatric dentistry experience is not only about the health of your child's teeth but also about nurturing a positive attitude that will benefit them throughout their lives. So, choose a pediatric dentist in San Antonio wisely, make dental care fun, and set the foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles.
Safe Dental Fillings Note: In the context of pediatric dentistry, it's essential to mention that when necessary, pediatric dentists use safe dental fillings designed specifically for children. These fillings ensure the health and safety of your child's teeth, contributing to their overall positive dental experience.

Do You Have A Bad Bite? – Orthodontic Treatment
Do You Have A Bad Bite???
Many people may not realize they have a bad bite, which is also known as “malocclusion”. Their malocclusion may be as simple as the two front teeth overlapping each other or a more complex malocclusion situation involving crowding, spacing, an open bite, a crossbite, a deep bite, protruding upper teeth, protruding lower teeth, or a midline shift. All these can contribute to an unattractive smile, therefore making you feel self-conscious about your smile.
If you think that either yourself or your child has some type of malocclusion then look at the descriptions below to determine if any resemblance is present. If so, orthodontics could be beneficial to improving your smile, overall self-confidence, and self-esteem. Having a proper occlusion can also make it easier to clean and maintain your teeth and a healthier smile.
For further information about your first visit, a FREE patient’s guide to detecting bite problems, or to schedule an appointment please contact our office.
Do You Have A Normal Bite?
If your upper and lower teeth are in a proper relationship they should fit together one-to-two; one tooth will fit between two teeth of the opposing dental arch. Also, no crowding, spacing, rotations, protruding teeth or overlapping teeth are present.
Do You Have Crowding?
Crowding is usually caused by inadequate space for teeth resulting in an unattractive smile with overlapping teeth or even some teeth being completely blocked out. Crowded teeth are usually more difficult to properly clean, often resulting in the buildup of plaque which can lead to decay or gum disease.
Do You Have Spacing?
Spacing between your teeth can be the result of congenitally missing or extracted teeth; impacted teeth; a size difference between the upper and lower teeth; frequently repeated habits such as finger or lip sucking, or tongue thrusting; or your teeth being too small for the respective jaw. Spaces between your teeth may cause food impaction resulting in damage to the surrounding gums and bone.
Do You Have An Open Bite?
If your front or back teeth cannot be brought into contact with the opposing teeth when the other teeth are biting together, you have an open bite. This can be the result of abnormal skeletal development or a frequently repeated habit such as finger or lip sucking, or tongue thrusting. Possible problems resulting from an open bite include the inability to properly bite or chew your food which can lead to difficulty in proper digestion, improper lip closure which creates difficulty with swallowing, speech, and red swollen gums due to chronic air exposure.
Do You Have A Crossbite?
If your normal biting relationship is reversed, then you have a crossbite. This occurs when the lower teeth overlap the upper teeth and is usually caused by crowding, ectopic tooth eruption, or abnormal skeletal development. A crossbite may “lock” your lower jaw in place possibly resulting in problems such as pain, popping or clicking of your jaw joints, thin or receding gums, or abnormal wear of your teeth.
Do You Have A Deep Bite?
You have a deep bite if your upper front teeth overlap the lower front teeth too much and the lower teeth cannot be seen. This can create abnormal wear on both your upper and lower teeth, along with damaging the gums in the roof of your mouth by the impinging lower teeth.
Do You Have Protruding Upper Teeth?
Protrusion of your upper front teeth can be the result of frequently repeated habits such as finger or lip sucking, or tongue thrusting. If your first molar is forward to its proper relationship with the lower first molar,, either your lower jaw is underdeveloped or your upper jaw has grown too much. Protrusion of the upper teeth makes them more susceptible to accidents due to their isolation. Your speech may also be affected because of the inability to have proper lip seal or tongue position.
Do You Have Protruding Lower Teeth?
Protrusion of your lower teeth can be the result of positioning your lower jaw forward due to a biting interference, excess growth of the lower jaw, or poor growth of the upper jaw. Also known as an “underbite”, your lower first molar is forward to its proper relationship with the upper first molar. Protrusion of the lower teeth can result in increased tension and pain of the jaw joint.
Do You Have A Midline Shift?
This occurs when your dental midlines of each arch do not line up in one straight line. This can be caused by a difference in tooth size, a missing tooth or teeth, crowding, a crossbite, or an asymmetry in the jaws. If not addressed it could create a muscle imbalance, possibly resulting in increased tension and pain of the jaw joint.

Orthodontic Treatment Can Improve Your Life
Orthodontic Treatment Can Improve Your Life
Orthodontic intervention can significantly improve a patient’s quality of life in a number of ways. If you are considering orthodontic care, successful treatment can result in both physical and psychological benefits. Orthodontists highly recommend immediate treatment if malocclusions, or improperly aligned teeth, are interfering with your everyday activities.
Orthodontic treatment can correct difficulties with eating or speaking. Severe dental malocclusions can interrupt a person’s ability to eat and speak normally. Not only can this cause physical discomfort, but also a significant psychological distress. Improperly aligned teeth can contribute to speech issues such as lisping and hinder one’s confidence when communicating with others. However, orthodontists can alleviate these problems with several treatment options. With corrected dental alignment, individuals can once again enjoy these daily activities.
Orthodontic treatment can enhance overall health and wellbeing. When dental malocclusions are ignored, they can lead to serious problems like gum disease and tooth decay. Studies have shown that these dental issues can then lead to more severe medical concerns, such as chronic migraines and even heart disease. With an orthodontist’s assistance, these problems can be better avoided, resulting in greater overall health and vitality.
Orthodontic treatment can improve an individual’s self-image. In addition to the physical ailments that may result from untreated orthodontic problems, orthodontists recommend treatment for anyone suffering from feelings of embarrassment or anxiety due to dental malocclusions. Misaligned teeth can greatly impact an individual’s comfort level and self-image. This can hinder their ability to effectively interact with others in both professional and personal settings. However, an orthodontic intervention can quickly and effectively remedy these issues and help elevate one’s self-esteem.

Braces can be used to treat a number of orthodontic problems including overbites, underbites, misaligned teeth, and spacing problems. If your orthodontist has prescribed braces to straighten your teeth and improve the look of your smile, you may be wondering exactly how this treatment works. Read this overview to gain a better understanding of how your braces will correct the placement of your teeth.
Application of Braces
Orthodontic braces are comprised of several different components including brackets, an archwire, and ligature elastics. Your orthodontist will bond a bracket onto each tooth with a glue-like material, and then run the archwire through each bracket. Ligature elastics are used to secure the wire to the bracket and are regularly changed when you visit your orthodontist for adjustments.
Realignment of Teeth
Braces work by gently pulling on your teeth to realign them. The archwire is tightened on a regular basis, putting pressure on the teeth. Over time, this continual pressure moves the teeth into their proper place. Additional components, such as elastics, bands, and spacers, may be used to correct bite issues, create space, or reposition a tooth that is markedly out of place.
Completion of Treatment
Once your orthodontist feels that your teeth have reached their ideal location, it’s time for your braces to come off. You will have to wear a retainer for a period of time to keep your teeth in the correct position. Your orthodontist may use permanent retainers, semi-permanent retainers, or removable retainers to stop your teeth from shifting.
