Why Dentures Are Worth Considering For A Brighter Smile?
Dental problems can be a real drag. They can affect your appearance, and they can also make it difficult to chew and speak. Fortunately, dentures are an option for restoring your smile and improving your oral health.
In this blog post, we'll explore why Dentures Melbourne are worth considering as a way to improve the aesthetics of your smile while also boosting your chewing and speaking capabilities.
Check out this site for know more about our dental services - https://anbdentalab.com/dentures-melbourne/
Restoring Your Smile's Aesthetics
Dentures are a great option if you want to restore your smile's aesthetics. They can replace missing teeth and improve the appearance of your smile, making it look younger and more vibrant.
Dentures also provide a good solution for those who have had previous dental work that has left them with stained or discoloured teeth, as well as those who have been wearing partial dentures for years without replacing them with full ones.
When you choose Dentures Melbourne for yourself or someone else in your family, it is important that they are made from high quality materials so there is no risk of decay or infection over time.
Improving Chewing and Speaking Abilities
Dentures are a great way to improve your chewing and speaking abilities. By replacing missing teeth, dentures can help you eat more comfortably and restore the ability to chew hard foods such as steak, apples and nuts. Furthermore, dentures can be customised with special attachments that allow you to speak clearly while wearing them.
Boosting Self-Confidence
Dentures are a great way to boost your self-confidence. They can make you feel younger, and they can help improve the health of your mouth.
Dentures can also help improve the way you look, which is important if you want to feel more confident about yourself. Dentures will give your face a more natural appearance than it had before because they'll fit into all of the spaces where teeth used to be located.
And when there's no longer any food in between them like with partial dentures, there will be less chance of people noticing that something is different about how much space there is between each tooth compared with what was once there! For any further issue, you get Denture Repairs Melbourne from professionals at any time.
Maintaining Facial Structure
Maintaining facial structure is important to maintain your overall health. Your face is the first thing people see when they look at you, so it's important that it looks as healthy and vibrant as possible.
When you have dentures installed, they help to keep your mouth open wide enough for proper breathing and speaking. Or you notice any issue, then you can get Dental Repairs Melbourne service from professionals.
They also prevent you from having difficulty chewing food or swallowing liquids because they are able to provide a more stable base for chewing than natural teeth alone can provide.
Conclusion
Dentures are a great way to improve the aesthetics and function of your smile. They can give you back the confidence you need to smile again, and they allow you to eat and speak without worrying about how others perceive your appearance.
If you think Dentures Melbourne might be right for you, talk with an expert today!

Customized Clear Aligners: Elevate Your Patient's Confidence
In the world of orthodontics, clear aligners have revolutionised the way we approach teeth straightening. At Australian Dental Labs, we offer state-of-the-art customised clear aligners designed to meet the unique needs of each patient. Our commitment to utilising cutting-edge equipment and advanced programmes ensures a streamlined product that not only delivers exceptional results but also enhances your patients’ confidence.
What Are Clear Aligners?
Clear aligners are a modern alternative to traditional metal braces, providing a discreet and comfortable way to straighten teeth. Made from transparent, medical-grade plastic, these aligners are custom-fitted to each patient’s dental structure, allowing for gradual movement of teeth into their desired positions.
Benefits of Customized Clear Aligners
1. Discreet Appearance: One of the most significant advantages of clear aligners is their nearly invisible design. Patients can smile confidently without the noticeable appearance of metal braces, making them an ideal choice for adults and teens alike.
2. Comfort and Convenience: Clear aligners are designed with patient comfort in mind. Unlike traditional braces, which can cause irritation to the gums and cheeks, aligners are smooth and gentle on the mouth. Additionally, they are removable, allowing patients to enjoy their favourite foods and maintain good oral hygiene without restrictions.
3. Advanced Technology: At Australian Dental Labs, we employ cutting-edge technology to create customised aligners. Our state-of-the-art equipment ensures precise measurements and adjustments, resulting in a perfect fit for every patient. This technology also allows for a faster turnaround time, so your patients can begin their treatment sooner.
4. Competitive Pricing: We understand that cost is a significant factor for many patients. That’s why we offer competitive pricing for our Melbourne-made clear aligners, ensuring that quality orthodontic care is accessible to everyone.
The Process of Getting Customized Clear Aligners
1. Initial Consultation: The journey begins with a consultation where we assess your patient’s dental needs and discuss their goals. This step is crucial for understanding the specific adjustments required.
2. 3D Imaging and Treatment Planning: Using advanced imaging technology, we create a 3D model of your patient’s teeth. This model allows us to develop a precise treatment plan, mapping out the movement of teeth throughout the aligner process.
3. Fabrication of Aligners: Once the treatment plan is finalised, we fabricate the customised clear aligners in our Melbourne lab. Each aligner is designed to apply gentle pressure to the teeth, gradually shifting them into the desired position.
4. Regular Check-Ins: Patients will wear each set of aligners for about two weeks before progressing to the next set. Regular check-ins allow us to monitor progress and make any necessary adjustments to the treatment plan.
Conclusion
Customized clear aligners are an exceptional way to elevate your patients’ confidence while providing them with a comfortable and effective orthodontic solution. At Australian Dental Labs, we pride ourselves on delivering high-quality, Melbourne-made products that not only meet but exceed expectations. Our commitment to using advanced technology and competitive pricing ensures that your patients receive the best care possible.
If you’re looking to offer your patients a reliable and effective way to achieve their dream smiles, consider partnering with Australian Dental Labs for your clear aligner needs. Together, we can give your patients the confidence to smile brightly.

How Long Does the Process of Getting Dentures Typically Take
Are you considering getting dentures but wondering about the process and how long it will take? You’re not alone. Many people contemplating dentures have similar questions.
Whether you’re replacing existing dentures or getting them for the first time, understanding the process can help ease any apprehensions you might have.
Let’s break down the process step by step:
1. Initial Consultation:
The first step is to schedule an initial consultation with your dentist or prosthodontist. During this appointment, your dentist will examine your mouth, discuss your dental history, and determine if dentures are the right option for you. They will also discuss the various types of dentures available and help you choose the best option based on your needs and budget.
2. Dental Impressions:
Once you and your Melbourne denture clinic dentist have decided on dentures, the next step is to take impressions of your mouth. These impressions will be used to create custom-fit dentures that are designed to match the shape and size of your mouth perfectly.
3. Fitting and Adjustments:
After the impressions are taken, they will be sent to a dental lab where your dentures will be made. Once your dentures are ready, you will return to the dentist for a fitting. During this appointment, your dentures Melbourne dentist will ensure that your dentures fit properly and make any necessary adjustments to ensure comfort and functionality.
4. Final Fitting:
Once any adjustments have been made, you will have a final fitting to ensure that your dentures fit perfectly. Your dentist will also provide you with instructions on how to care for your dentures properly.
5. Follow-Up Appointments:
After you receive your dentures, you may need to schedule follow-up appointments with your dentist to ensure that everything is going smoothly. Your dentist may need to make additional adjustments to your dentures to ensure that they fit comfortably and function properly.
How Long Does It Take?
The entire process of getting Melbourne denture clinic dentures typically takes a few weeks from the initial consultation to the final fitting. However, the exact timeline can vary depending on factors such as the type of dentures you choose, the condition of your oral health, and how quickly the dental lab is able to create your dentures.
Closing Thoughts
While getting dentures may seem like a daunting process, it can greatly improve your quality of life if you are missing teeth. By working closely with your dentist and following their recommendations, you can ensure that the process goes smoothly and that you are happy with the results.
If you’re considering getting dentures Melbourne and beyond and have questions about the process, don’t hesitate to schedule a consultation with your dentist. They will be able to provide you with more information and help you decide if dentures are the right option for you.

What does it take to get into an Australian dental school?
The road to studying dentistry in Australia can sometimes have bumps along the way, especially when it comes to being rejected from your dream school, or facing obstacles before you can even get through the application phase.
Are you stuck and wondering about your options?
We’ve put together some of the most common hurdles our students face, and what you can do if you find yourself in one of these situations.
You don’t meet the prerequisites
The University of Melbourne DDS prerequisites are quite strict and require that students have completed approved courses in human anatomy, human physiology, and biochemistry to be eligible to apply.
The anatomy prerequisite in particular tends to be the largest barrier for many of our students. A class with a lab component with human cadaveric materials is required. Because of this, only certain anatomy courses are approved and not every Canadian school offers approved courses. This is especially true for students on the west coast, as there are no approved courses at UBC, SFU or uVictoria. Don’t fret, though—we’ve got some an alternative pathway for you:
Enroll in an approved course Although you cannot apply unless you meet the prerequisites, Melbourne allows you to enroll in these courses during the application season. These courses can be taken as non-award classes or open studies and don’t need to be taken as part of your degree to count toward meeting the prerequisite requirement. This means you can submit your application early in the year with your interim transcript and proof of enrollment in the class. Once you complete the prerequisite course, you will need to submit an updated transcript as proof of completion.
Prerequisite Subject Assessment If you find that the anatomy, physiology and/or biochemistry courses that you have completed are not found on the above chart, you can have these courses assessed by submitting a Prerequisite Subject Assessment Form. You’ll need to include full course outlines for each course you want assessed. If needed, we recommend you do this as soon as possible in advance of applying so you can plan accordingly as you may end up needing to enroll in an approved subject as per above.
Dental Aptitude Test or Dental Admission Test
If you haven’t written the DAT, you still have dental school options. OzTREKK represents 6 programs that do not require the DAT. The undergraduate-entry programs (JCU, Griffith, CSU, and UQ) are open to applicants who are applying directly from high school and to those who have partially or fully completed one or more post-secondary degrees. The University of Otago (our first dental program in New Zealand) offers a Bachelor of Dental Surgery program that is open to applicants who have a completed bachelor’s degree and have met all the mandatory prerequisite courses.
Your DAT does not meet the minimum requirements To be eligible to apply, you must meet the DAT minimum requirements for each program. If one or more sections of your DAT does not meet these requirements, but you are keen to apply to the graduate-entry programs, you will need to rewrite the exam. DAT reports are valid for 2 years.
The DAT is now offered throughout the year at professional test centres across Canada. OzTREKK’s university partners will also accept the American DAT in lieu of the Canadian version of the test.

Tips For Finding Emergency Dental Care And Denture Repair Services
Dental care is often seen as a luxury or unnecessary expense, but it's not a decision you should make lightly. You can't always avoid problems with your teeth and gums, but you should be prepared for them when they arise.
That's why it's important to understand what options are available to you when something goes wrong — whether that means an emergency visit to a dentist who can fix your problem immediately or finding someone who can make sure your Dentures Melbourne last as long as possible.
In this article, we'll discuss some of the most common dental emergencies and how best to handle them so that you're not left without proper care while dealing with pain or other symptoms caused by an accident or illness.
You need to see a dentist promptly
As soon as you suspect that your tooth or teeth are injured, it is important to seek emergency dental care right away. The longer a tooth is left untreated, the greater the risk of developing an infection or other complications.
If you cannot get an appointment with your regular dentist, ask your family doctor or another dentist for recommendations; they may be able to suggest someone who can see you immediately.
If you have suffered an injury in which one or more teeth have been knocked out, it is very important to attend a hospital emergency room as soon as possible (even if no one saw what happened). Once there, explain what happened and tell them how many teeth were knocked out; this information will help them treat any injuries that occurred during the incident.
What if you can't get in to see the dentist?
If you can't get in to see your own dentist, there are other places you can try. In addition to visiting an urgent care center, here are some other things you can do:
Call another dentist who is not on your insurance plan and ask for advice about how to handle the problem.
Call a dental school and ask them if they have any recommendations for dentists who work with people who don't have insurance or money for dental visits.
If all else fails, call a dentist who is not in your insurance network and ask if they would be willing to treat you as a charity case (even though they are not obligated by law).
You may be able to use denture repair services.
If you have lost a tooth, or are suffering from an emergency dental situation, you may be able to use denture repair services. Although these services may not be available everywhere, they are often available in large cities and urban areas.
If you need Denture Repairs Melbourne, it's best to call around to find a local service. If there isn't one nearby where you live or work, then consider using a service online.
These services will ship the cleanings directly to your home so that they don’t get damaged during shipping or waiting at the post office while traveling long distances between offices (and waiting rooms).
When searching for an appropriate place near me where I can get my emergency fix done quickly and efficiently within 24 hours (or less), I recommend looking up local businesses with reviews from previous clients who've used their services before; this way I know exactly what kind of quality workmanship goes into making sure everything gets done correctly without any mistakes made along the way."
Conclusion
Making sure that you have a great smile and healthy teeth is important. If you need emergency dental care, don't worry. There are many options out there for you. You can still go to your regular dentist if needed, but there are also other resources like Dentures Melbourne repair services that may be able to help you out in an emergency situation.

Flying to Australia during COVID: what to expect
Hello, everybody! My name is Radka and I am a second-year dental student at The University of Melbourne. I made the decision to travel back home to Canada during the thick of the COVID-19 pandemic, and after a pleasant stay home, I was fortunate enough to receive a travel exemption to re-enter Australia around late February 2021.
In this blog, you’ll find a diary of my travel journey, starting from Canada and ending in Australia. If you are also planning the same journey or if you are just curious, then keep reading!
Toronto, Ontario Immediately after receiving my travel exemption, I began looking for flights. At that time, the state of Victoria was not landing any international planes, so my only option was to fly into Sydney first, finish my 14-day quarantine there, and then book a domestic flight to Melbourne.
Once I had booked my flight, I made sure to also book my COVID-19 test. The government of Australia requires passengers to have completed the COVID test (and have negative results of course!) at maximum of 72 hours before your departure. I had my COVID test done by FlyClear by Life-Labs. To book an appointment you will need to fill out a form online at the FlyClear LifeLabs website and pay around $300.
My COVID test was completed at a Shoppers Drug Mart and I received my results around 12 hours later. I also made sure to complete my travel declaration. This is needed for your travel from the USA to Australia and thankfully this was just a quick online application. Once I had my travel declaration and negative COVID test, I made sure to print both documents and tuck them away in my carryon bag so they were ready for travel day.
Pearson International Airport, Toronto, Ontario Once the big day arrived, I made sure to arrive around 3 hours before my first scheduled flight. As soon as my family and I arrived at Pearson Airport, the security guard reminded us that only travelers are allowed to enter the airport and masks must be worn at all times. We said our goodbyes, gave each other hugs and kisses, and with a spring in my step off I went to begin my big adventure!
My first step was to check in then weigh and send off my luggage. I noticed fellow travelers surrounding the self-check-in kiosks at my flight’s stall, and so I headed in that direction. I scanned my passport and began to enter details of my travels into the computer; however, the computer alerted me ever so kindly that I need to “SEEK ADDITIONAL SERVICE” in vibrant red letters. As bead of sweats appeared on my forehead, I quickly notified the airport staff and they directed me to the “Additional Services” desk to my right. The staff had been instructed to call the Australian Government when checking in travelers headed to Australia. The attendant also warned me that he will need to likely be on hold with the Australian Government for about 30 minutes.
Around 45 minutes passed and the staff member finally spoke with someone from the Australian Government. He then began to ask me for some documents—my passport, my negative COVID test result, and my travel exemption letter. After showing him these documents, he checked me in and sent off my luggage. I then proceeded through security and scurried off to find my gate.
In the sky Due to COVID safety rules we had to keep masks on at all times in the plane. (We were told to wear masks on all of the flights). Ironically, due to COVID, the flight was also overbooked and therefore social distancing was not possible in the friendly skies.
San Francisco International Airport, San Francisco, California Once I landed in San Francisco, there was nothing particularly special that I had to do regarding my travel exemption or the COVID situation. I grabbed some snacks and waited at my gate to board my next flight to Australia.
Somewhere above the Pacific Ocean On the flight to Australia, I was pleasantly surprised as to how empty the flight was, and I was told I could change my seat since there were only 10 passengers on board!
The flight was pretty much smooth sailing for the next 14 hours. A few movies, some food, podcasts, and plenty of naps later… I finally landed in Sydney!
Kingsford Smith Airport, Sydney As soon the plane landed in Sydney, Australian Government officials boarded and made some announcements reminding us that we must complete a two-week quarantine, and provided us with documents regarding COVID safety rules and quarantine procedures. (Don’t forget to fill out your declaration card before leaving the plane!)
As soon as I exited the plane, I entered the airport and followed my fellow travelers to the first “stop.” There, we lined up and waited to be greeted by a government health official. They mentioned that cloth masks are not accepted and kindly asked us to replace our old masks with the fresh, new masks provided. They then asked, “Do you have any COVID symptoms? Do you take any medications? Are you aware that you are required to complete a fourteen-day quarantine?”
After my brief chat with the government health official, I moved down the line and I showed the officers my declaration card and passport. I then continued to walk through the airport straight to the passport check. There I presented my passport and gave the officer my declaration card. I then walked through a corridor and I collected my luggage at the carrousel. After I had collected my luggage, I was approached by some officers where they asked to see my passport to confirm my name and hotel (your name should be on their checklist and they will make sure you were given a designated quarantine hotel). I continued to walk a few steps until I reached the outside of the airport. A military person greeted me, directed me onto my designated bus and kindly took my luggage to load it onto the bus.
Sydney Harbour Marriott, Sydney After a short bus ride, we reached the Sydney Harbour Marriott. The officer working for the hotel hopped on our bus to check the attendance list by conducting a roll call. He then handed out a dietary preference form for us to list any dietary restrictions and/or preferences we may have. After that, he instructed us to hop off the bus and enter the hotel lobby three at a time. As I entered the hotel, I was greeted by the friendly hotel staff who asked for my passport, my credit card, and my dietary restriction form. Once they had collected all the information they needed, they provided me with a room number and directed me to another officer who asked me, “Where is your permanent address in Australia? What is your phone number? How do you plan to travel to Victoria? Who is your emergency contact?” etc.
Afterward, another hotel staff member asked me to point out my luggage. (Pay attention here because if you collect someone else’s luggage by accident, it is a long process of infection control and COVID safety procedures to return luggage to its rightful owner!) The staff carried by bags to my room and once we arrived, they opened the door, placed my lugged in my room, and wished me a pleasant stay!
And just for those who are wondering, I didn’t book or choose my hotel. The Government of Australia arranges this for you once you are given a travel exemption. I was also not informed which hotel I was staying in—I guess it’s just luck of the draw. Also, the hotel staff informed me that I will receive a statement via my email for the amount I owe for my 2-week hotel quarantine stay.
Overall, my travel from Canada to Sydney was very pleasant and not too stressful. For anyone planning a trip to Australia soon, I wish you safe and happy travels!
Wondering what the mandatory 2-week quarantine is like in one of Australia’s quarantine hotels? Stay tuned because I am about to give you the inside scoop on my experience in my next blog!

20 Questions with Dr Ferox #19
Hi vetlings! I must apologize for my reduced activity and inconsistent schedule, I feel terrible about it and I am working on getting back on track. But for now, here are 20 questions that have been sitting in my inbox for too long. If you asked on Anon you’ll have to see if your question is here manually, but I have tried to tag those that were brave enough to use their name.
Anonymous asked:just curious -- do vets have any confidentiality requirements like people doctors do WRT their patients/their patients' conditions?
More or less, yes. It's more client-confidentiality than patient-confidentiality because it's the human's privacy that matters, not the animal. That's why when I tell stories from work I don't include photos of the patient, even though I know you really want me to, and I often obscure non-critical details like sex, age, name, breed or time. This way I can talk about a case or a situation without talking about a specific, identifiable person.
Anonymous asked: Hi! I've been reading through your blog, and it's really cool. Do you work with exotic pets as well, such as reptiles or birds? If you do, what was your best experience? Have a wonderful day!
Not very much, and most of the birds and reptiles I see these days are wildlife. We're not very well set up for exotics, we don't even have a heat lamp in the building, and we tell people this when they call for an appointment. The best experience was probably treating a blue and gold macaw for egg binding. The bird was part of a breeding pair and supposed to be worth $30,000, and I treated it successfully.
@theroyalfrogman said: Have you ever worked with aquatic animals, such as fish, salamanders, frogs, etc.? If so, did you enjoy it? (Sorry if this was already answered in the faq, I'm on mobile and the app won't let me see it)
We don't have salamanders down here, and I haven't worked with frogs since I was a vet student. I do keep my own fish, nothing super fancy at the moment, and I desperately wanted to get more into aquarium medicine when I first graduated, but Tasmania is very strict about importing fish so there wasn't much I could do, and I found most of the local pet store owners unusually hostile, so I did not get into it as much as I wanted to. I did spend some of by vet school time at the Melbourne Aquarium, and on placement with their vet Dr Robert Jones.
Anonymous said: I have a question- a lot of people I know that interact with a lot of animals seem like they've noticed that certain cat coat colors have traits that they tend to have- ginger cats are nice, tortiseshells tend to be tiny, etc, etc. Have you noticed anything like this? Thank you!
I have noticed that 'boring' colour cats tend to have nicer personalities, probably because they have nothing else to make themselves stand out for adoption. Most of the time I associate personalities with breed, though tortoiseshell cats having attitude definitely seems to be a real phenomenon.
Chestnut mares also have a reputation for being difficult to handle and 'spicy'. I don't know about riding them, but they do have an increased risk of anaesthetic complications in recovery which is statistically significant and they are notably more likely to injure themselves while waking up.
@mewwile said: what's your favorite coat/fur pattern? it can be any animal, cats or bunnies or dogs or multiple patterns you like!
I'm pretty fond of anything 'wild-type' or wolfy in dogs. I will always have a fondness for the humble tabby cat. I horses I can't help myself, I just love the look of buckskins. I know it's not fur, but I also always wanted to keep a blue marble crowntail betta, but life hasn't gotten me that far yet.
Anonymous said: i recently, literally only a few weeks ago, got my female cat fixed and shes been puttin weight, is the normal and like is there anythin i should be doin about it?
Yes, feed her less. If she's gaining weight then she's consuming more calories than she's expending. Removing the reproductive tract can reduce a cat's energy requirements by up to 10%, so you may need to account for this.
Anonymous said: So, I got a dog about a year ago, and she unfortunately contracted Parvo. She's fine now, but I have sort of two questions. One, what are the long term, if any, affects on a dogs growth because of Parvo? She's significantly smaller than her siblings. Two, is it possible she contracted Parvo from the vaccine? She didn't go anywhere in the weeks leading up to her vaccination except for the vets, and they said it could be a number of things. Thank you for your time, I very much enjoy your blog!
She did not contract parvovirus from the vaccine. Parvo is an extremely resilient virus and it can survive in soil for at least 20 years, and it's also spread by foxes. It may also be spread by cats (I'm pretty sure it is, but the jury's still out on that one). In high parvo areas we often don't figure out how the transmission has occurred, because people could bring it into the house on their clothing, cats could bring it into the yard, or there might have been a previous case at that property years ago. I've written about parvovirus before, but in terms of long term effects pups that were very young when they contracted the infection may have some heart muscle damage, some dogs end up with some intestinal scaring, but most dogs do pretty well if they get over the initial infection.
@friskerart said: Hello :D So straight away I will say this is NOT a request for advice, I have a lovely vet who goes above and beyond to help our senior cat. Eve is at least 18 now and in the last year she started having both seizures and syncope. With the help of anti seizure medication and funnily enough hyperthyroid cream she's gone from near constant fits and fainting to one a week :D Is this something you've ever dealt with before?
Syncope is fairly common with hyperthyroidism secondary to cardiac changes and high blood pressure. The seizures responding to the medication makes me wonder if they were related to high blood pressure also, but I'm no medicine specialist so don't take my word as gospel.
Anonymous said: Hi Dr. Ferox. I was wondering how necessary you think dental cleanings for cats are? I've had some vets say that it's absolutely necessary every year and some others say that it isn't. I know that some cats are more prone to periodontal disease also so I would assume it depends on the cat?
You certainly should have a dental check at least every year, but whether a cleaning under anaesthetic is required or not will depend on the cat. Some cats should be checked every 6 months, which is why many clinics offer free dental checks during their dental month promotions.
Anonymous asked: I've read on cat forums that cats vaccinated for FIV (or maybe it was FeLV?) can test positive for it later. Do you know if there's any truth to that? There was a bit of a fear mongering vibe, recommending against that vaccine, so that if something ever happened the cat wouldn't be in a worse situation for testing positive for a disease with a stigma. (It was awhile ago, might have been in the context of managed feral cat colonies?)
That's an excellent question. It used to be true that cats vaccinated for FIV would test positive on all tests, so it was only recommended for microchipped cats. However in the last few years at least two tests on the market have proved that they only detect infected cats, not vaccinated cats, so this is now much less of an issue. There was always a lab test that could be done to differentiate between vaccinated and infected cats, but it was expensive so never popular.
Anonymous said: Is panting ever good for a cat, or always a sign of distress of some kind?
It's always a sign of distress of some kind. It mighe be just heat or fear, in which case the cat should calm down and stop panting after a minute or two of being allowed to do so, but more than that and I get very worried.
Anonymous said: Hiya, I can't find a current question tax? So have a compliment tax: you are amazing and lovely and have the best blog <3 and anyway I was talking to a friend who is working with dogs and he was advocating for it being a good thing to not feed your dog for a day every now and then? it sounds utterly stupid on the surface (especially as someone recovering from EDs...) and google is giving me nothing but controversy and I just wanted an opinion from someone I respect and trust. :)
Yeah, I'm not a fan of fasting your dog unless it has a GI disturbance from eating something stupid (eg garbage) or prior to surgery, and even then try not to do it for more than 12 hours. Those enterocytes need food in the gut for nutrition, you don't have to fast a dog to keep it healthy, and it's probably super confusing for the dog too. A dog is not a wolf.
Anonymous said: Hello! I hope you've been having a good day! I was wondering your thoughts about the dental treats they make for dogs. I've been giving my 9 year old milk bone brushing chews lately but I was wondering if they really help or if I should do something else to care for her teeth Thanks for taking the time to help me.
If they have a VOHC certification (Veterinary Oral Health Council) then they are probably some use in promoting good dental health, but if they don't then there's no way to prove that they do. Anybody can make something they claim is good for your dog's teeth, but only products with the VOHC seal have proven it.
Anonymous said: Not a pleasant question, but: if a heavily pregnant animal is speyed, is there usually an attempt made to euthanize the fetuses in case they're capable of feeling pain at that stage? If so, how is that done?
Once the uterus and its contents are removed from the animal, the foetuses are generally injected with euthanasia solution one by one. They're usually not removed from the uterus to do this, sometimes you can feel the heartbeat enough to aim. They're often partially anaesthetised when removed anyway, since the medication affecting the mother will affect the fetuses, so they are already slowed down and I would expect them to feel less than they normally would, the injection just makes sure.
@politically-elected-king-of-hell said: Hey Dr! I have seen on the internet that sometimes vets will pack wounds with sugar. Why is this, and what would make you want to pack sugar versus not packing sugar?
I would really only use sugar for something oedematous and prolapsed, eg a rectum or penis which has popped out and swollen up so much I can't get it back in to where it's supposed to be. Sugar is extremely hypertonic, it draws moisture into itself, thereby reducing swelling. Then if I happen to get some stuck on that organ when it's replaced, it wont do much harm, the body is well adapted to absorbing that sugar. That's really the only scenario I would use it. Sometimes I will use honey on grossly contaminated external wounds for a similar reason, but also because honey will stick to the dirt and necrotic tissue, helping me debride it at a bandage change and is so hypertonic bacteria struggle to grow in it.
Anonymous said: Can the flu be spread from humans to cats and dogs?
It's generally not spread to dogs and cats but can be spread to ferrets.
@ladyofthemountains said: Is there a age restriction for catnip? Like should a kitten not play with toys that have it till a certain age?
No, but it shouldn't play with it if it's going to be driving home later.
@gravity-gravy said: You know I've always wondered why the traits that greyhounds have were breed into them, like the dolichocephalic faces and the general body shape that they have. Do these traits help them at all with perform with racing or where they breed into them because of aesthetic? And do we know when these traits first appeared in the breed?
They were bred for function, their appearance certainly assists them in running fast and winning races. The origin of the breed is somewhat obscured, but there are greyhound-like dogs in Ancient Egyptian art, so that's a good start. Dogs that win more races these days are bred more, so there is a slight selective pressure for the longer face too in dogs which win their races 'by a nose'.
@themagickey13 said: I have a habit of trying to get injured wild animals to wildlife facilities. People keep telling me I am not really helping at all because they are just going to put the animal down rather than try to save them. I am a realistic person so I know most of those animals have to be euthanized, but I always say to these people that I would rather be put to sleep peacefully than be left dying on a highway in agony, and I don't own a gun. Am I right to do this or should I let nature take it's course?
If it's a species with a high conservation value (eg something endangered) then it might not be put to sleep, you never know. Your actions might not make much difference to the whole ecosystem, but I don't think that's why you're doing it. You do make a difference to that individual animal, and need to decide for yourself whether you think that's worth it.
Anonymous said: I usually do sanitary/booty trims but I have heard people having their cats get lion cuts instead. I was hoping you could shed some light on what animals can be fully shaved and why. For the QT: if it's still the headcanon thing, then I always thought you must have dark hair. I'm honestly not sure why.
There's nothing super special about doing a lion cut for a cat. We often do it for cats that have trouble grooming themselves, or that have major hairball problems. Some cats can be done conscious, but a lot need to be sedated for this groom.

What You Need to Know Before Getting a Bridge
A bridge is a type of prosthesis that is used by dentists for replacing the missing teeth in your mouth. If you have some teeth that need to be extracted or are already extracted or have fallen out, you may want to consult with your dentist regarding the possibility of a bridge.
Bridges are generally made of porcelain which is then fused with metal so that it has both the strength or the metal and has the appearance of your natural teeth. To know more about bridges, consult with Holistic Dental Donvale and find out the dental check up cost in Melbourne, along with the price of such a treatment.
How will the bridge be fitted in your mouth?
Generally speaking, a bridge consists of fake teeth that are attached between two crowns. In simpler words, bridges consist of fake teeth where your teeth are missing, accompanied by crowns on the teeth adjacent to the empty space. It should also be noted that the adjacent teeth need to be prepared for the crown placement and so that bridge can be cemented in its place.
In some extreme cases, bridges are replaced with implants.
When do you need a crown and bridge?
Crowns and bridges can be used to solve several types of dental problems. These include:
• Fracture of tooth or damage to tooth
• Decaying or weakening of tooth
• Severe discoloration of tooth
• Misshaped tooth
• When a dental bridge requires an anchor
Generally speaking, bridges are used for replacing any missing teeth in the mouth, but they can also be used when the dentures are unstable, uncomfortable or not an ideal solution. For getting
A bridge is used to replace a missing tooth or teeth. It is also a possible solution when dentures are unstable, uncomfortable or aesthetically displeasing. If you want to find out whether you are an ideal case for a crown or bridge, you need to talk to your dentist. The dental check up cost in Melbourne is not that high and the experts at Holistic Dental Donvale will be able to guide you regrading what the best plan of action is for your case.
How does a bridge work?
A bridge works essentially whenever there is one or a few missing teeth in your mouth. These missing teeth leave gap in the jaw, which can result in movement of the remaining teeth in the mouth. These movement may be rotation or linear, but in either case, they can cause you to develop a bad bite. This imbalance in the jaw can also result in development of gum diseases or TMJ disorders.
Bridges are placed in the spaces where the teeth are missing. They can either be cemented with the help of crowns on natural teeth, or there can be placement of implants around the empty space. In such cases, the natural teeth over which the crown is placed are known as abutments, and they act as anchors for holding the bridge in its place.
The replacement teeth placed in the empty spaces are called pontics, and they are attached to the crown that cover the abutment teeth. You can use a variety of materials for making bridges. Your dentist will help you choose the best material for the bridge on the basis of various factors, like the location of the missing teeth, what their function is in the mouth, whether there are any aesthetic considerations, and what the cost of the procedure will be. Nowadays, the most commonly used materials for crowns and bridges are porcelain or ceramic, as they can easily match with the color of your natural teeth.
How are crowns and bridges made?
Before the crown or bridge is made, the dentist will shape the tooth in such a way that the crown will fit on top of it. Additionally, after the tooth has been shaped in the proper manner, the dentist will then take an impression of it which will form the mold for the crown or bridge. If your bridge or crown is to be made with porcelain, the dentist will also match the shade of the porcelain at this stage so that it is the same as your real teeth.
The impression made will be sent to a dental lab where the crown or bridge will be fabricated using the material that your dentist suggests. The dentist will give you a temporary crown or bridge to be put in the designated place until the permanent ones are made. When the permanent prostheses are ready, the temporary ones will be removed and new ones will be cemented in their place.
How to care for crown and bridge?
If you have a crown and bridge in your mouth, you need to practice effective oral hygiene. The basic things like brushing and flossing at least two times a day are extremely important, but you also need to take extra care and floss more carefully near the crown. This will help in preventing decay in this area where there is the junction of tooth and crown.
You should also avoid sugary and sticky foods like toffees. Make sure you do not apply hard pressure on teeth and avoid inappropriate usage, like chewing pens and pencils, biting fingernails, and chewing ice. You can use a dental floss threader for cleaning the space under the crown. You can also buy water jets for the same purpose.
Also make sure you visit the dentist on a regular basis. Regular dental checkup cost in Melbourne in is not that high, and you can take care of your crown and bridge easily this way.

Are you eligible to apply to an Australian dental school?
What does it take to get into an Australian dental school?
The road to studying dentistry in Australia can sometimes have bumps along the way, especially when it comes to being rejected from your dream school, or facing obstacles before you can even get through the application phase.
Are you stuck and wondering what are your options now?
We’ve put together some of the most common hurdles our students face, and what you can do if you find yourself in one of these situations.
Unable to apply to Melbourne due to prerequisites The University of Melbourne DDS prerequisites are quite strict and require that students have completed approved courses in human anatomy, human physiology, and biochemistry to be eligible to apply.
1. Enroll in an approved course
Although students cannot apply unless they meet the prerequisites, Melbourne allows students to enroll in these courses during the application season. These courses can be taken as non-award classes or open studies and do not need to be taken as part of your degree to count towards meeting the prerequisite requirement. This means you can submit your application early in the year with your interim transcript and proof of enrollment in the class. Once you complete the prerequisite course, you will need to submit an updated transcript as proof of completion.
Have a look at Melbourne’s assessed subjects under the tab “List of Assessed Subjects” and “International” to see if the courses you have taken in these subjects have been approved. On the right-hand side of the spreadsheet you will see whether the course has been listed as approved or not approved. Be sure to check back on the spreadsheet often, as it is updated regularly. Before enrolling in any prerequisite course, we advise checking in with either your admissions officer or the university to make sure the course will satisfy the prerequisite. Usually, Melbourne requires students to complete the course(s) by November for the upcoming intake.
If you haven’t completed the prerequisite course at the time offers are issued, then the university will issue a conditional offer. When you have successfully completed the required anatomy/physiology/biochemistry course(s), your final transcript will need to be submitted, and the condition on your offer will be lifted.
2. Prerequisite Subject Assessment
If you find that the anatomy, physiology and/or biochemistry courses that you have completed are not found on the above chart, you can have these courses assessed by submitting a Prerequisite Subject Assessment Form. You’ll need to include full course outlines for each course you want assessed. If needed, we recommend you do this as soon as possible in advance of applying so you can plan accordingly as you may end up needing to enroll in an approved subject as per above.
DAT 1. I haven’t written DAT yet
If you haven’t written the DAT, you still have dental school options. OzTREKK represents 5 programs which do not require the DAT.
2. My DAT does not meet the minimum requirements
To be eligible to apply, you must meet the DAT minimum requirements for each program. If one or more sections of your DAT does not meet these requirements, but you are keen on applying to the graduate-entry programs, you will need to rewrite the exam. The Canadian DAT is only written twice a year—once in February and again in November. Our university partners will also accept the American DAT in lieu of the Canadian version of the test. Bonus? The ADAT can be written in Canada and is offered every month of the year, so you don’t need to wait until February or November to write the test. Score!
My degree is too old A few of our university partners have a “10-year rule.” This means that your degree needs to have been completed within the past 10 years to be eligible to apply. This is to ensure that the information you’ve been taught is fresh and relevant to your studies. If your degree has been completed outside of this time frame but you are interested in the graduate dental programs, you will need to consider enrolling and completing a new degree. The undergraduate dental programs do not have a 10-year rule, although if you haven’t done any studies in recent years, the universities may ask for a resume to see your work experience and other activities you’ve participated in since finishing your education.
My GPA is too low The graduate entry dental programs (Sydney, UWA and Melbourne) assess students based on their completed bachelor’s degree grades. If your cGPA from your undergraduate degree is does not meet the minimum requirements, then you must complete an entirely new degree to be eligible to apply to these programs.
However, if you’re not looking to complete an entirely new degree, the undergrad programs may be an option for you. Most of the undergraduate programs assess students cumulatively based on any university studies that they complete, so enrolling in further courses (ideally completing one year of a new degree) and achieving high marks could help to improve your overall cGPA. If you are interested in taking this pathway, please reach out to your admissions officer for more information.
