CHAPTER 2: SCRAPES

A/N: Part 2 of "Vitamin Darling", my childhood friends to lovers drabble collection, all thanks to my love for Denki. In this chapter, we find out how Denki taught you more than one lesson, when you were seven years old.

Warnings: f!reader, mention of minor skateboard injuries.

You're seven years old when Kaminari Denki takes you by the hand and drags you to the empty parking lot behind his house. It’s the summer of your first year of primary school, and although it is terrifying to start anew, the burden is lightened by your best friend; Denki is just as nervous, but he has been there to hold your hand the entire time. Such are the benefits of ending up in the same class together.

Ever since you met him in kindergarten, Denki has been somewhat of a constant in your life. Your mother and his have gotten so close that they've started going on shopping trips without the children being involved, your father and his have become permanent tennis buddies, and even your cat seems to like the yellow-haired boy more than he likes your brother. Granted, your brother is a bit of a butt-head, so that's not too surprising.

Denki places the skateboard down onto the concrete ground and beams at you expectantly. It’s impressive how much he has changed in three short years. No longer a blubbering mess, the boy has gained some confidence.

"It's because you're my friend," he explained as he was pushing you on the swings in his backyard, a few weeks ago. "Things aren't as scary when you've got good friends, ya know?"

Denki is half an inch shorter than you are, but sometimes even you have to admit that you look up to him. It’s like he has an infinite pool of positivity to draw from, these days, and it's contagious, like he's some type of happiness vitamin. Besides, Denki says he can feel a growing spurt coming. Supposedly, he can feel it in his toes. Personally, you think it's just another wart growing on his big toe, but you don't have the heart to tell him he should probably throw out his old shoes and get new ones. The bright blue converse sneakers on his feet have holes in them, but he says they're his lucky pair - they help him skate better.

He's still looking at you expectantly as his right foot rolls the skateboard back and forth, and he’s holding out a hand now.

"I can hold your hand while you try it out, if it's too scary," he offers.

With a petulant huff, you roll your eyes and confidently stride up to the board.

"Who says I'm scared?!"

Denki grins, as he usually does, and explains where to put your feet.

Skating is one of the only things you don't do together. There's a couple of boys in your class who are quite good at it, and they taught Denki how to do it after school at the beginning of the year. That was three months ago, and it's starting to gnaw at you how much you're feeling left out. It doesn't make sense to you, either. Surely, if you put your mind to it, you can master this and join them from time to time. After all, if boys can do it, how hard can it be?

As it turns out, it's not as easy as it looks. The wheels on the board are far too slippery. Are they even supposed to roll that fast? You've barely put your foot on when the board slides forward and puts you on your ass.

Denki is on you like lightning, and he's chewing his lip like he usually does when he's worried about something. He looks like he's about to ask you if you're okay, so you wave him off and mutter something along the lines of "stupid board" and "I just wasn't ready yet".

He explains how it's important to keep leaning forward instead of backwards, so the board can't get ahead of you. It helps, a little, but it still takes eight tries for you to successfully balance yourself. Once you've got it down, however, Denki looks at you with so much pride, you don't even care how much your tailbone is hurting right now.

His smile instils you with so much confidence that you kick forward with a matching grin stretched across your face, but the force of the kick and your sense of balance don't match up, and the board is kicked backwards while your body is catapulted forward. The salopette you're wearing does nothing to protect your knees as you skid across the concrete.

Back at Denki's house, the boy wastes no time to pull out a box from underneath the sink. He’s watched his mother do this countless times over the past few months. He has the battle scars across his knees, elbows and chin to prove it, so he knows what he's doing as he cleans the scrapes on your knees with antiseptic.

It stings. Whether your knees or your self-esteem have taken a bigger blow, you can't really tell. What you do know, is that it's unfair. It’s unfair because, of the two of you, you were the first to learn how to swim and the first to learn how to ride a bike. How is this any different? And why now, when your friendship with Denki is on the line? What if he ends up spending all of his time with the other kids, because they know how to skate and you don't? Your knees hurt, but the thought of losing your best friend hurts even more, and it's enough to make your bottom lip wobble.

Cool air hits your knees. Denki is blowing on the antiseptic that’s covering way more skin than just the scrapes. He's not entirely sure why he should blow on antiseptic, but he's seen his mom do it every time, so he's positive that it's absolutely, super-duper necessary.

"You were so cool today," he mutters as he meticulously sticks Pokemon themed band-aids to your knees. "Remember how I told you it took me a whole week before I was able to stand upright on a skateboard?" He continues, "Wait until I tell the others that you were able to do it in one day, they'll go nuts."

The wobbling of your lip stops, then, and you look up.

"You don't think I looked dumb?" you ask.

Denki's eyes grow wide.

"Dumb?!" he exclaims, and it's loud. He's always loud. But not in an annoying way, you think. He's Denki, so he's allowed to be loud.

The yellow-haired boy grins again, and suddenly your knees don't sting anymore.

"You could never be dumb," he states, as if it's something that he knows to be true. "You're my best friend," he continues, "And you're the coolest person I know."

When you're seven years old, Kaminari Denki teaches you how to master a skateboard. He also teaches you that the right people will always include you in what makes them happy.

Random Headcanons that I have for Bnha

- Rikido Sato has older twin sisters (who are in college) and a cat named Sota. Their parents also own a Café in Tottori Prefecture where they bake the most unimaginably amazing treats ever! They also live in the cozy flat upstairs with a petite balcony.

- Rikido is half Brazilian on his father's side & half Japanese on his mother's side. The Sweets Hero can speak Spanish fluently (as he and his sisters would FaceTime their relatives in Brazil. They call him Ricardo) though he has trouble reading and writing it.

- Mama Sato baked sugar cookies for Papa Sato in high school. Let's just say he fell head over heels in love with her for that.

- Hawks knows how to speak 5 different languages: Japanese, English, Spanish, Urdu, and Cantonese

- (For all you TetsuKendou shippers!) Since Itsuka Kendo wore a dashing pants suit + tie on their first date, Tetsutetsu decided to show up wearing sort of a kimono-like dress to go her outfit.

- Yui Kodai's father actually hates Neito Monoma's guts (a bit of a reference to their roles in Class 1-b's play for the School Festival)

- Denki Kaminari can ride a skateboard and is actually quite skilled with it

- At the beginning of the second semester, second years of the Hero coarse go on a trip overseas to intern with overseas Pros and study the politics of Pros in that country/countries.

- For some reason, I imagine some non-Japanese speaker passing by and yelling, "Konnichiwa!" And Todoroki being like, "It is still early in the morning."

happy to share my thoughts on Denki Kaminari(the loml)!!! I just don't tag my bnha stuff as anything other than bnha, because then they will never <3 find me <3 hah <3

anyways. Denki Kaminari:

Pop punk all the way. Sk8r boi see you later boy all the way. He's got a sense of style that's unrivaled. Ripped jeans, band tees, necklaces, earrings, Paramore, Fall Out Boy, Avril Lavigne, Panic! At the Disco. He wears converse and plays his music on the highest possible setting through his earbuds. He's black and white and pink and yellow, pastel blue and neon green, and of course, bright, bright, bright yellow.

Skateboards are the only thing he's coordinated with. Whenever he's got free time on weekends, he heads to the park near his house and skateboards. He's actually got a ton of non-school friends who go to the skate park regularly and they all just generally have a great time. If he wasn't going to be a pro-hero, he'd be a pro-skateboarder instead. His phone is full of shaky videos of him and his skater friends doing tricks. In the background, there's always half-ecstatic shrieking whenever one of them lands a trick.

He chews bubblegum and sticks it to the bottom of desks. Also, if a class doesn't have assigned seating, he's the kid who constantly moves around and disrupts the self-assigned seating of everyone else in the class. People get so annoyed about it, but Kaminari is never going to change.

The lightning bolt in his hair is natural. It just matches his entire aesthetic perfectly.

Super high pain tolerance naturally. Once, when Mina demanded that all her friends try that period pain simulator(because Mina's like that), Kaminari made it all the way to the second-worst pain level before having to stop. Bakugo, however, was out in two levels.

It gets worse after a ton of quirk usage. All that zapping really frazzles his nerves to the point where someone could punch him in the arm and he wouldn't feel it. It's a dangerous side effect to have brought on in battle, but it's just something he's gotta deal with.

That being said, he could get shot and not notice until after the battle's over and the adrenaline starts to wear off. He could keep a hand pressed over the wound because he still doesn't feel it. He could slowly start to feel it again, get woozy from pain and blood loss, and stagger forwards, only to collapse and have his friends crowd around him worriedly. Just a thought.

ADHD, Dyslexia, and Dysgraphia. Diagnosed. However, he thinks a pro-hero should be able to pass without accommodations. So my dude is struggling in class, and absolutely sucking, because of his pride and his internalized idea that he is somehow less diligent, less smart, and less worthy of his place in the class if he actually gets help with his diagnosed medical issues.

His parents really trust him to know how to take care of himself. They're good people, and they pretty much let him deal with his own life. They're always there if he needs them, but he's so determined to not need them, that he simply won't go to them. He's independent enough, the sixteen year old said to himself, who needs parents? Gotta have that "self-reliant to a fault" complex that all the 1-A kids have, right? Why get an adult if you can get trauma and pain and do it yourself!

He silently hates short-circuiting. That's it. He loathes it. He hates how he reacts. He hates how much of an idiot he seems. He hates how he can't think. It's like the numbness from earlier takes over his whole brain. It's nasty, and he hates it. But he laughs it off. Humor is an excellent coping mechanism, because if he can't laugh, he'll cry, and then everyone will know he's got feelings about it deep down, and nope! Pro-heroes can't have those! He's just gotta get better and stop short-circuiting.

Aizawa loves the kid. Aizawa loves all his kids. But Aizawa really appreciates what Kaminari can do, and appreciates the vibe he brings. Especially his positivity. Reminds Aizawa of Present Mic. The world definitely needs more Present Mics in it. Bubbly, confident, on-fire people, willing to speak their minds and brighten the lives of others? Aizawa loves to see it.

The reason why it says "part 1", is because sleepovers will be revisited at later points in your life with Denki. Keep your eyes peeled!

When you're eight years old, you and Kaminari Denki experience your first sleepover. The need for sleepovers was never really there, since you already spent almost every waking second together, anyway: carpooling in the morning, spending time together at school all day, going to the empty parking lot behind Denki's house to clumsily skate with your other friends from school, afterwards … It's a miracle you've not gotten tired of each other, at this rate.

Your first year of primary school passes by swiftly - before you know it, you're deep into your second year and enjoying a much anticipated summer break again. It's strange to not spend the entire day practically joined at the hip. Instead, you're forced to pass more time at home in the unpleasant company of your brother, who's much older than you and more annoying than the growing pains in your back and in your legs.

Some days, you don't understand how your brother is related to you at all; he's mean to you, rude to your dad and seems to spend all of his time playing video games and complaining about anything and everything. Your class mates are always boasting about their older siblings, telling you about how cool they are and how much they learn from them. The only thing you're learning from your brother is how not to act. You'll never be that uncool when you turn thirteen, you decide.

It's no surprise that you find any and all excuses to spend time at Denki's house. Denki's house comes with a warm hug on the welcome mat and a cup of freshly made lemonade pressed into the palm of your hand as you sink back into the soft leather of their couch. With Denki's impressive collection of Pokemon VHS tapes at your feet and a tray of snacks on the side table, you cannot imagine a safer, more comfortable place in the world.

Rainy summer days are your favourite. It starts pouring the minute you arrive at Denki's place, and so the skateboards are tossed aside and replaced by apple cake and the third Pokemon film. You think Entei is the coolest. Denki disagrees; he says that Charizard is way cooler. Sometimes, Denki can be wrong about things, you decide.

Half an hour into the film, Denki is struggling to pull up a blanket. He’s definitely sitting on it. After what can only described as an unfortunate struggle, the boy is halfway to the floor, but he succeeds in freeing the rest of the fleece fabric from the weight that is his own ass. The look that flashes across the eight year-old's face is comical, and you brace yourself for what is about to fall from his mouth this time.

"Hey, would'ya wanna build a blanket fort with me?"

From somewhere in the kitchen, you can hear Denki's mother scold the boy for his terrible enunciation.

Denki doesn’t care, he’s too preoccupied with your thoughts on his suggestion.

"Sure," you shrug, nodding, "As long as your mom's okay with it."

He doesn’t miss a beat and screeches a shrill "Mom?" through the house, knowing that his mother probably hears him just fine without him having to yell.

You hear an exasperated sigh bounce off the kitchen walls, and it leaves you both in stitches, because Denki's mother has the resolve of a spork: she'll let you two do anything as long as it means she doesn't have to endure Denki's screeching for thirty minutes. She appears in the room as she dries her hands with a kitchen towel, a fond smile that looks so much like Denki's spread across her face.

"If you're going to watch films from the fort, wait for your father to come home so he can get the TV down, I don't need you two to break the house down by yourselves," she suggests.

Denki groans, "Dad doesn't get home until 5 PM, she'll have to go home for dinner by then."

His mother seems to consider this for a second, eyeing the clock before directing her attention to you.

"Would you like to sleep over tonight? We can call your mom and ask her, together. We're having chicken for dinner."

There's a sense of excitement that blooms in your chest at the mere idea of a sleepover. You've never gone to one, and who better to spend it with than your best friend? You look over at Denki, silently hoping he's just as excited as you feel. The blond boy is staring at his mother like she's an angel visiting from the heavens. He looks like he's about to single-handedly carve her a statue of marble and gold and build a temple around it in gratitude.

"Really?!" he screeches.

Denki's mother does not half-ass anything. Though she swears she's not trying to interfere in the fort-making, she does provide everything necessary to make it a massive success. She even goes through the trouble of bringing the flannel winter sheets down from the attic, providing you both with so many blankets that you end up having to pick and choose which ones are most suited for the fort. The ones that aren't selected to be walls or part of the fabric roof are draped across pillows and cushions or stretched out and piled up one by one to make the floor more comfortable to lie on.

Dinnertime is spent explaining the building process to the blond boy's father, who's listening with fascination and mirth in his eyes. Denki's father is a kind man; it's easy to understand where Denki got his bubbly personality and good manners from.

In no time, the TV is brought down to floor-level, making it easy for the both of you to watch films from inside the fort, which is now lit with battery-powered fairy lights. It looks like nothing you've ever seen - it's ethereal. Part of your brain goes quiet as you take it in, and when you look up, Denki is already looking at you, a soft smile stretching across his face until it turns his eyes to crescents, the fairy lights reflecting off his blond lashes. You scoff petulantly at being caught in wonder and amazement, so you grab the nearest pillow and chuck it at the blond's head. It only makes him giggle louder. That sound might just be your favourite.

Film day turns into film night, the burnt orange clouds in the sky signalling the start of the sleepover, officially. He introduces you to Spider-man and Stuart Little, and grins as he teaches you how to throw popcorn up into the air and catch it with your mouth. He's terrible at it, but you don't tell him that. Instead, you cheer as loudly as you can every time he does manage it, and you give him full credit when you succeed. It's worth it, just to see him smile.

It's no wonder you both fall asleep during A Goofy Movie, given how late it is and how exciting the day was. When your eyes open the next morning, soft rays of sunshine are reaching into Denki's living room, promising a beautiful summer's day. Your legs are tangled in several blankets and your hair is fanned out onto what you assume to be one of the couch's cushions, covered by Denki's flannel Winnie The Pooh baby blanket.

It's only then that you notice how Denki is sleeping soundly next to you, sort of. He has his head pillowed on your stomach, and he's spread horizontally through the blanket fort, mumbling in his sleep.

When you're eight years old, you experience your first sleepover with Kaminari Denki. You discover that the blond boy sleeps like a rogue starfish, and that there's no better way to wake up than next to your best friend.

Miya gets confused and worried about you everytime you touch wires and fiddle them

When you get shocked he'll only laugh a little then asked if you're ok, which he knows you are

When Reki found out about this, he would ask you to put some of your knowledge into his knowledge of building skateboards

When Langa saw you playing with electric things, he also want to play with it too but he only got shocked really badly, but he still want to learn how to handle it better

Joe and Cherry can see how Miya always looking/staring at you from a distance, when you're with Reki and Langa

Cherry thinks it's nice for Miya to find something/ someone he loves dearly

And Joe is happy that he's finally growing up

But that doesn't mean Cherry and Joe won't tease him about it

When they do that to Miya. His face will explode and yell random words and sentences at them

Miya was sitting on one of the stools in Joe's restaurant. He was silently watching you. The way you was putting a noodle in your mouth and faking it as a mustache with Reki and Langa.

Miya sighed and closed his eyes. "Gosh, they are really an idiot," he opened his eyes and smiles when you came back to his vision. "But they are surely my idiot." Miya flinched when he saw long pink hair flowing beside him.

Miya turned his head and saw Joe and Cherry with a smirk on their faces.

"Don't you da-"

"Aww our baby kitten is growing up so fast! Finding love and all!" Joe yelled.

"They're a good one, Miya, take good care of them." Cherry smiled at him. Miya's face was super red, his face start to turn into a pout.

"I don't know what you guys are talking about! I was only day dreaming about the new video game that's coming out last Thursday!!!" Miya yelled.

"You mean next Thursday right?" Joe tilted his head in confusion.
