Finished these pieces on the 8000 grit today! All freeforms: rhodonite (largest cab I've cut yet!), lapis lazuli (the left one is so vibrant it looks fake but I assure you it isn't), dendritic opalite, dendritic chrysoprase and a high-domed aquamarine. Sorry for the shitty lighting, it's still dark outside >_< cabbed all of these except for the meteorite. The atlantisite (stichtite on serpentine, far right) is one of the few pieces that made it through cabbing and didn't fall apart upon wrapping. Such a soft stone! Finished freeform dendritic opalite / common opal cab. I tried out a 50,000 grit wheel (up from a 3000 grit buffer). Sooo shiny! Makes me think of a river scene in the style of old Chinese ink paintings. As a child I took a few lessons in traditional Chinese painting and grew a real appreciation for the fluidity and movement in them. Before I head into slumbertown, my new friends from today. Stunning jasper more (!!!) dendritic opalite, some sort of agate (the red streak got me) and unakite slabs. I've marked the jasper for cabbing - my partner picked it so I'm going to make a sunset piece for him. Small cabs in garnet, amethyst, carnelian and amber to set in something new...
