Page two completed!!! I love these dorks sm (fanfic is called [Data Recovering] by @manofthepipis!! :3c
Also, for the third panel, Spamton says this: “YOU ALL ARE A [[Pipes burst? Call Now]] LEVEL OF [adware]! EAHAHAHA!! IF SOMEONE [took loving care] OF YOU ALL ONCE AND FOR , ALL OF THIS WOULDN’T BE [Broadcasted daily]. WHO THAT SOMEONE WOULD BE?? [The answer may surprise you]!!” (Idk why but I have a head canon that if Spamton talks for a long time with too much passion and emotion, his words become more glitchy, and kinda have a ringing effect LMAO)
Anyways I hope you all enjoy!! :3 Stick around for page 3!!

god i gotta say though. the moment to moment scenes siffrin has on occasion are really nice. i mean, the one where he contemplates how terrible it is that they, of all people, should be the trap master and finder of all keys does suck because they're blaming themselves for something they can't change but,,,, idk!! that's interesting!! just from an rpg protagonist point of view! it's fun to have a protagonist who's quiet but has a moment to think to themselves!

you've mentioned that you've been thinking about a specific au lately on the blog 👀 whats the deal there
well me and @gasterofficial were talking about what would happen if gaster's version of ralsei WASN'T successfully made to be able to handle eldritch knowledge. I've discussed it before on the blog, but I have the headcanon that the light can literally burn darkners who aren't prepared for it. (this comes from spamton having quite a bit of dialogue implying that he was burned/changed in some way by the knowledge he gained.) in blogverse canon, ralsei's got very sensitive eyes because he's still recovering from his initial exposure to that knowledge.
so if he wasn't successfully built to handle more Light Exposure than your average darkner... the logical conclusion is that gaining too much knowledge would blind him. after researching, i don't think it would be full blindness as that's kind of rare, but it would impair him badly enough that he would have trouble navigating on his own.
this is a problem for gaster. he needs to have a darkner guide, and now he's got EIGHT busted little guys. ralsei's certainly clever and adaptable, but he is NOT used to functioning blind just yet and there's not much time left before the game absolutely needs to start. a functional guide is a critical necessity to save the world of deltarune. and gaster just does not have the resources to try again.
so, out of luck and out of options, gaster becomes the worlds worst Ghost Guide to assist ralsei in his Actual Guide duties. guy who tells ralsei about his surroundings and also never shuts the fuck up. and is also his ghost dad who can't be perceived by others unless they're in a truly liminal space.
so what arises is a truly dysfunctional and codependent parent-child dynamic between these two. gaster likes ralsei but like... never really gives him room to make decisions on his own since hes constantly telling him what to do. ultimately he believes ralsei just kind of has to be a means to an end, no matter how much personal affection gaster has for him, due to the nature of ralsei being Born To Save The World, and that makes their relationship deeply unhealthy. meanwhile ralsei, who is a bit traumatized from being Literally Scorched By Horrible Knowledge in the first minute of his existence, is pretty happy to just let himself be directed constantly by someone who is kind to him and appears to have his best interests at heart. he ends up being quite sheltered due to all this. plus gaster also keeps telling him constantly Not To Think Too Much About The Fucked Up Things so he's gotten good at that.
thematically, the entire thing, at least for me, is another lens through which to look at deltarune's themes of agency and personhood. children, particularly disabled children, frequently have their personhood and agency denied to them because of the idea that they aren't capable of handling themselves. that's not to say that children and disabled people don't need SUPPORT, of course, but that support should be enabling them to make decisions for themselves when possible and appropriate, rather than denying them opportunities for agency. adding those particular lenses onto ralsei's canonical status as a darkner (which is a category of Unperson within the narrative) provides a lot of interesting ground with which to explore his emerging independence and self-actualization. also I just think its rad to think about weird Fucked Up Ghost Dad shenanigans

Gonna start a liveblog tag for my first isat playthrough. Anyways, some first impressions
The artstyle is very cute and charming. I love the character designs (especially Siffrin, i adore their wizard drip) and the world somehow manages to feel very vibrant even in monotone colours.
Having each characters pronouns in their profile is both ingenious and incredibly convient and frankly why arent more games doing this.
There's a very interesting subversion of typical rpg tropes. We start the game seemingly at the very end of a typical rpg's story, just before the final boss. We hear second hand about the prior experiences of the party but we don't get to experience them ourselves.
Also notable is that we seem to be playing as a party member, rather than the protagonist. For all intents and purposes, Mirabelle seems to be the protagonist of this rpg story, being the chosen one who is destined to defeat the king and the one who recruited all other party members, including Siffrin.
I'm interested to see where the game is going to take these ideas, since it seems like we're being set up for a deconstruction of typical rpg tropes, and im a big fan of those types of stories.
The game also seems to be setting up a theme of change vs. stagnation (with the Change God, the House of Change, Craft being the act of molding and changing the world, etc. vs. the King freezing people in time.) I also know this game features time loops so I expect that will probably factor into this theme as well.
The soundtrack absolutely FUCKS.
Overall I'm loving the game so far. I know people say this about literally everything and it gets annoying, but I definitely see a lot of undertale/deltarune influences (especially since the shot of the house of change seems like a direct homage).

i don’t know if you answered this question but what’s au rot?
Tumblr media
AU rot is a phenomenon that happens to forgotten or abandoned AUs. The universe itself begins to rot and its inhabitants catch AU mold. Some do manage to survive but most never make it and there isn't much you can do to save them. Honeycomb is actually immune to AU rot and mold being both naturally AUless and made of honey.

Y’know on the topic of a Flowey-like character in Deltarune and the fan secret boss thing mentioned a while back, I’ve seen some really cool concepts for said fan bosses where they play with the player’s perception of Flowey from Undertale and mold it into something new to unnerve you, kind of like Mettaton Neo with Spamton Neo. “Flowery” is one of my favorites in this catagory personally (I swear despite the name he’s a really cool sb concept.) But yeah, I feel like if they were to mess with the concept of Flowey again, it’d be in a meta/referencial way to unease the player and twist it more than anything. (If you could make Flowey more twisted of a concept than he already is :p)
Sorry for the long submission, I just think stuff like this is fun to think about :D I hope your surgery goes well, and that you have a good break!
There's certainly a lot of creativity that people put into fan secret boss concepts! But yeah, I'm not sure how the concept of Flowey would be used again in canon itself. Flowey in UT was intended to act as a mirror to the player...to warn of the dangers of getting so engrossed in a world that you end up flattening out or even destroying the thing you so loved in the first place. "Don't you have anything better to do?" I'd say is as much of an important statement as "Don't kill, and don't be killed" in UT!
For DR, if there's a character meant to reflect the player or to warn the player of stumbling into a similar trap, it seems like it'd be someone else, and under very different circumstances. Especially since DR focuses on different themes, what makes Flowey so unnerving and twisted in UT may not translate the same to DR.
(And thank you!)

It’s interesting that it’s file 2 that was loaded… in canon, it’s implied that file 0 is Chara’s, 1-6 belonged the fallen humans, 8 is Flowey’s and 9 is Frisk’s. (7 is a mystery, but some theorize it belongs/belonged to one of the amalgamates)
…I guess that since they all fell at once and Flowey somehow already exists that makes file 1 Flowey’s and file 2 (presumably) Frisk’s?
Honestly now that I think of it… would the amalgamates even exist in this au? There presumably aren’t any human souls lying around for alphys to extract determination from. But then that raises the question of how Flowey exists…
YAAY This gives me a excuse to briefly explain the state of the save systems in group tale. Let’s set a few things before we go further
Remember this is a alternative universe so while I try to stick pretty close to game lore I do mold things to create the grouptale lore
Frisks soul represents determination in this universe because honestly it’s just fits the story I’m telling way easier then unknown red soul
-
Saves are inspired by the ones in deltarune. There can be multiple save files at the same time. But the difference is multiple files CANNOT be used at once nor can others be controlled.
So in the underground, anyone with the most determination can have a save file. For a time Flowey was that person. But now that frisk fell floweys save was overwritten by frisks as soon as they fell
Tumblr media
file 1 here was back in the beginning of the ruins
Tumblr media
And we’ll see file 2 in the next segment
THIS however doesn’t means floweys saves are totally erased. just inaccessible for the time being
Ok Lore dump over

Ice-E's P'E'ZZA Secret Boss: Greas-E
Time for a new Deltarune secret boss, this time for Ice-E's! The lovely art was done by the splendorous @zootyplex (commission her, her art rocks) and the fabulous @creepa-b0t-inc for the sprite renditions!
Now then, for the boss himself. Greas-E hails from the Corporate World of Ice-E's, run by the head C'E'O. In days long past, Greas-E served as the C'E'O's top enforcer, the one he contacted to get shit done, through violent means if necessary. Greas-E was fiercely loyal to his boss, being a part of the Family Menu in the upper echelon. He new the job came with a lot of risks, a lot of downsides, but he didn't care. He served his duty well.
One day, however, a haphazard Darkner spotted him in the middle of his less than moral activities, word of which did take very little time to spread throughout the Dark World. The C'E'O was certainly not happy to hear this, as he sought to maintain his profits with a proper family friendly image. As much as it killed him, he had to banish Greas-E, remove him from the menu in order to save face. As such, he was banished to the Icy Shelf, and left to be forgotten.
It was here that he came to meet a special someone among the tundra, one who showed him capabilities he never knew he even had. Powers that linked him to a grandiose machinated giant that lay dormant in the ice. He was ready to Supersize, all he needed was the right group of schmucks to help him finish the last minute prep time "That Weird Guy" got him on track for.
As for his Light World origins, his story is slightly more complicated than the average Light World Darkner backstory.
Greas-E was originally the benign pompadour type mascot for an item on the Ice-E's menu, part of the corporate attempt to make more of a cast for Ice-E, so they could market more toys and boost their funds. He was meant to advertise and sell the Super Mega Pizza Burger Triple Patty Greasemaster Deluxe, which was even more unhealthy than it sounds.
Of course, this terrible menu item led to some serious health concerns for the public, inevitably leading to its removal from the menu. However, the franchise had jumped the gun by a significant margin and had already begun construction on a line of animatronic entertainers for the Hometown location. They were intended to be half machine and half organic material from whatever product they were supposed to represent, that way, they could Serv-o Up Smiles!
This was an all around terrible idea.
Greas-E's animatronic was the first one to be put into production, and subsequently the first to be canned. However, they couldn't get rid of it, so, they just shoved it in the back of the freezer at the restaurant alongside the last unsold Super Mega Pizza Burger Triple Patty Greasemaster Deluxe patties.
It was here he was to stay. Here he was to rot. Mold and mildew slowly overtaking the meat on his body, but his hate still remains. His desire to get back on the menu and prove to his boss he can still be useful burns just as bright as it did before. And he'll serve up a 2-for-1 deal on pain along the way.
"What? What? Youse single serving punks tink you got ANYTHING on da Greasemaster? Tink again, Cornball!"
"We all pass our best-by dates, cornball, even the freshest meats expire!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for his general deal, Greas-E is a dirtbag sleazeball mafioso. He's a dick to most people, except his boss who he holds in the utmost regard. He speaks with an Italian American accent, much like a stereotypical mobster. He also consistently refers to himself in the third person as Greas-E or the Greasemaster. During his speech, he also sprinkles in a variety of food service references into his speech pattern. After meeting Kris, he tends to refer to them as Cornball or Order Reference Number M040N, or moron.
