chucking in my 2 cents lol but i think if jose leaves then it'll be kane/son leaving PLUS dele, one or two deadweight players and sending regui back... we're clearly not making it to champions league which means harry/sonny leaving is likely. we cant afford to fire jose unless we can get rid of another player and sending regui back would give us 10 mil profit after paying jose's severance <\3
thanks for ur input anon, i love hearing other ppl’s thoughts about this! :) i think u are onto something! but i’d be surprised if mourinho’s contract doesn’t have a clause that makes firing him cheaper (like if we finish 12th or something)?
i agree about harry/sonny probably leaving. :( it would break my heart but at the same time it’s horrible that harry hasn’t won any big trophies!! like wttf? lmao u know those movies where a kid is crying his eyes out while being like “go! be free!” at a wild animal that was rescued but everyone knows that wild animals belong in the nature so the kid has to set it free even tho they have a bond? that’s me with harry.

Brazilians dazzle
New Delhi, Jan. 8 (UNI): Brazil’s São Paulo Futebol Clube beat an Indian Eleven 4–0 in an exhibition match, here on Sunday. Saturday’s rain had rendered the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium turf slippery, and throughout the half the Brazilians had a rough time controlling the ball. Nevertheless, they wen into halftime with a 25th-minute goal that defender Ivan crashed in from a free kick. In the second half, especially with the introduction of their star Betinho, they were all over the Indian half and but for the post and cross piece coming in their way and some poor finish should have won with a bigger margin. From Delhi, the Brazilians, brought by [ilegível], go on to Bangalore, Calcuta and Jamshedpur.
The Indian eleven, captained by Mauricio Afonso, got quite a cheer from the over 35,000 crowd as they held the ball for the first 15 minutes and Sharaf Ali dashed in from the right frequently to send in floaters. But Fonseca, Santos, Ivan and Ronaldo, the big São Paulo defenders, were really too good, winning every ball in the pit and rarely letting anybody get by. Sudip Chatterjee marshalled the Indian defense admirably and in the first 45 minutes made many good saves.
The São Paulo team, of whom eight were in the team that won them the Brazilian Cup against S. F. Flamengo [sic; eu não faço ideia de a que jogo eles se referem], essentially played a 4–3–3 game. WHat appealed in their game was their quick distribution of the ball, long defense cutting through and curling crosses. One such cross by outside-left Aritana was just released by the diving Mazinho. Another dangerous moment the Indians went through was when Flávio, their captain, lobbed a free kick which was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Henry Menezes.
The second half was all São Paulo’s. Anílton, in the tenth minute, and Renatinho, in the 15th, should have enhanced the lead, but made silly errors. Renatinho made up by meeting a lovely through from Benê in the 30th minute and driving in from an angle. Benê came upfront much more thereafter and was unlucky when his shot from the right hit the post. With about ten minutes left, Betinho, too, shot onto the post. The match finished in excitement. With a couple of minutes to gol, [ilegível] Gonselves brought down Marcelo, who was about to score, and referee Bisht gave a penalty. Flávio converted to make it 3–0. A minute after that, Indian defenders collectively brought down Aritana. Another penalty, and Flávio was right on target again.

Indian XI hold São Paulo
Bangalore, Jan. 11 (FTI): A spot-kick goal in the dying minutes enabled São Paulo Futebol Clube from Brazil to draw with Indian XI at 2–2 in the second Super Soccer match here on Wednesday. In an evenly contested match, both teams had their moments of glory and domination. The visitors, noted for their short passes, fine coordination and good ball control, were able to shine only in patches. The Indian team, which suffered a 0–4 drubbing in the first match, contrary to expectations, put up a bold show in today’s contest. Center-forward Mazinho (2nd minute) and captain Flávio (87th minute) scored for the visiting team, while Kuljit Singh (14th and 60th minutes) was the scorer for the home team.
The visitors atarted their second outing on a whirlwind fashion by scoring the first goal through their center-forward Mazinho in the very second minute. Mazinho, after trapping a fine lob from winger Betinho, unleashed a powerful grounder, which entered the corner of the net. Ten minutes later, winger Aritana fumbled a [ilegível] by hitting wide of the mark. In the very next minute, India equalized. Brazilian stopper Ivan, after thwarting Sisir Ghosh’s attempt gave the ball to custodian Anselmo. But the agile Kuljit, who was on the run, intercepted it and deceived the goalkeeper with a fine placement. Thereafter, the play was confined to the midfield mostly. The Indian attack found the rhythm only in the closing stages of the first half and the made some inroads into the rival citadel. But the alert rival defenders spoiled their chances with timely interventions, leaving the teams 1–1 at half time.
Immediately after the breather, Mazinho’s full-blooded shot from inside the box hit the upright and went out. Five minutes later, he dangerously cut in, but failed to control the ball, and the alert Indian custodian Henry Menezes collected it. The Indians had two chances in the eighth and 12th minutes of the second half, but Kuljit failed to capitalize on both the occasions. In the 15th minute, Indians went into the lead. Kuljit Singh, who made [ilegível] of a defense lapse, beat the São Paulo custodian with a fine placement.
Shocked by the reverse, the visitors put all their might into the game and made repeated raids on the rival goalmouth. But the Indian defenders, particularly Sudip Chatterjee, withstood the challenge admirably. When the match seemed to be heading in favor of the home team, Amit Bhadra tackled Mazinho dangerously inside the box, which resulted in a spot-kick for the visitors three minutes before the long whistle. Their skipper Flávio made no mistake.

Big win for São Paulo
Calcutta, Jan. 15 (PTI): Displaying glimpses of Brazilian artistry, the São Paulo FUtebol Clube thrashed an IFA [Indian Football Association] Eleven 5–1 at the Salt Lake Stadium here on Saturday. The match, watched by approximately one lakh soccer crazy Calcuttans [um lakh corresponde a cem mil], saw the Brazilians lead 3–1 at halt-time and then adding two more after the change-over. For São Paulo, striker Marcelo and winger Mazinho scored two goals each and one goal was added by Flávio. For IFA Eleven, Nigerian Chibuzor scored the only goal. The São Paulo will play their last match at Jamshedpur, on January 17.

'Burnley Killer' Son Heung-min breaks goal silence and saves Tottenham
먹튀,먹튀검증,먹튀검증사이트,먹튀신고,먹튀제보,먹튀 사이트
'Son Sasional' Son Heung-min (Tottenham) is interested in whether he can escape the goal silence against Burnley, who has a good memory.
Tottenham Hotspur will play the 13th round of the '2021-22 English Premier League (EPL)' away game against Burnley at Turf Moor, Burnley, England on the 28th at 11 pm (Korean time).
Tottenham suffered a shock loss 2-1 in the away match of Group G of the '2021-22 UEFA Europa Conference League' against Slovenian Team Mura two days ago.
Mura won the Slovenia First Division title last season, but this season, he is in the middle of the league in his home country, so it is a rather shocking defeat for Tottenham. Conte, who took over as the successor of former manager Nunu Santo Espiritu, who was sacked due to poor performance in early November, also recorded his first defeat since taking office at Tottenham.
Son Heung-min, who started on the bench, showed an active movement by replacing Dele Alli in the 9th minute of the second half when the team was led 0-1. In the 12th minute of the second half, he overcame the check of 7 opponents with an explosive dribble breakthrough and showed his presence by recording a powerful right-footed shot. Heung-Min Son, who showed an active movement throughout the game, was disappointed as he could not prevent the team's 1-2 defeat.
Tottenham need a win over Burnley to get out of the shock of the Mura defeat as soon as possible. Burnley is considered to be Tottenham's one-win offering as they are in the relegation zone amid sluggishness with only one win (6 draws and 5 losses) until the 12th round.
Son Heung-min scored a wonder goal against Burnley. ⓒ AP=Newsis For a smooth victory, the performance of “Burnley Killer” Son Heung-min is important.
He has many good memories against Burnley. After successfully breaking through a 70m dribble against Burnley in December 2019, he scored a wonder goal and won the Puskas Award. Last season, he scored the winning goal leading to a 1-0 victory in the away game in the 6th round, and recorded two assists in the 26th round home game, leading the team to a 4-0 victory.
Team victory is important, but personally, since goal silence is getting longer, Son Heung-Min needs to reverse the mood through the Burnley match.
Son Heung-min, who has scored 5 goals this season (4 league goals, 1 conference league goal), has not scored in the last 3 official matches. If you look at the league alone, the goal is silent for the 4th game, and if you add the A match played this month, the silence will increase to 5 games.
It is noteworthy whether Son Heung-min, who is struggling with a prolonged goal drought, can once again show off the majesty of the 'Burnley Killer' and give Tottenham a victory.

Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 Manchester City: Steven Bergwijn scores superb debut volley as Spurs win bad-tempered affair
New Post has been published on https://thebiafrastar.com/tottenham-hotspur-2-0-manchester-city-steven-bergwijn-scores-superb-debut-volley-as-spurs-win-bad-tempered-affair/
Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 Manchester City: Steven Bergwijn scores superb debut volley as Spurs win bad-tempered affair
Steven Bergwijn is the 250th player to score on his Premier League debut, and the 13th Dutchman.
Steven Bergwijn marked his debut with a superb volley as Tottenham won a bad-tempered Premier League affair with 10-man Manchester City to boost their top-four hopes.
The result lifts Spurs to fifth, four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, while City remain second, 22 points behind leaders Liverpool who can win the title on 21 March when they play Crystal Palace.
The 22-year-old’s goal came with Spurs’ first shot on target, after Oleksandr Zinchenko had been dismissed for a second yellow card and City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan had seen a first-half penalty saved by Hugo Lloris.
Son Heung-min’s effort, which deflected off Fernandinho as it flew past City goalkeeper Ederson into the bottom left corner confirmed a valuable victory for the hosts.
Player Rater: who was your man of the match?
Tottenham v Manchester City reaction
Pep Guardiola’s City side had arrived in London chasing their fifth consecutive league win and dominated possession but failed to convert a glut of glorious chances.
Lloris brilliantly flicked a Sergio Aguero effort on to the post and the Argentine was then at the centre of a chaotic few minutes towards the end of the first half, winning a penalty awarded by VAR following Serge Aurier’s clumsy challenge.
Gundogan however, saw his spot-kick – which took four minutes to be given – saved by Spurs keeper Lloris, with VAR then asked to rule on whether the France goalkeeper had fouled City’s Raheem Sterling as both pursued the rebound.
Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Zinchenko were booked as both sets of players confronted each other in the aftermath, while Spurs boss Jose Mourinho appeared angered at the referee’s failure to book Sterling for diving when a second penalty was not awarded.
Sterling had earlier appeared fortunate to escape with only a 12th-minute booking, after replays showed his studs landing on the ankle and lower shin of Spurs midfielder Dele Alli.
City though were reduced to 10 men after the break, with Ukrainian Zinchenko receiving his marching orders for a foul on Harry Winks.
That allowed Spurs to gain a foothold in the game, with Bergwijn firing Lucas Moura’s clever cross into the bottom right corner from 15 yards to set them on their way.

Jose Mourinho ‘so pleased’ with ‘amazing’ Spurs effort
Until the hour mark this had looked like being another occasion on which Spurs were going to sorely miss Harry Kane as the focal point of their attack.
Son and Moura provided dynamism and debutant Bergwijn showed some neat touches, but Kane’s ability to hold the ball and bring others into play was absent as the hosts repelled wave after wave of City attacks.
And then the game dramatically swung in Tottenham’s favour, thanks largely to Winks’ surge forward which drew Zinchenko into a rash challenge and hastened his early departure.
City, who had been readying Gabriel Jesus, were suddenly forced into a rethink and while they attempted to reorganise Spurs went ahead.
Bergwijn, who arrived at the club on Wednesday in a £27m deal from PSV Eindhoven had last scored on 7 December against Fortuna Sittard.
But there was nothing routine about the way he introduced himself to supporters of the north London club – capping a tenacious display with a fine goal.
It marked a dream debut for the Netherlands winger, who pulled up with cramp in the second half, but who was afforded a hero’s ovation when he was withdrawn after 70 minutes.
City lack finishing touch
While Spurs manager Mourinho cut a frustrated figure in the first period over perceived injustices, the roles were reversed after the break with his old nemesis Guardiola appearing exasperated by his own team.
Having reminded his City side to be “more clinical” after their Manchester derby loss on Wednesday, he appeared agitated by their first-half penalty miss and the decision not to award them a second penalty.
And that was compounded two minutes into the second period when German midfielder Gundogan missed a gilt-edged chance, firing over from six yards after Sterling had laid the ball into his path and Aguero’s initial effort was cleared off the line by Alderweireld.
The champions had 18 shots but only hit the target five times and both substitute Jesus and Bernardo Silva were unable to convert late chances.
City’s lack of cutting edge ensured a sixth defeat of the season, which is as many as in their past two title-winning campaigns combined.
Man of the match – Giovani Lo Celso (Tottenham)
Argentine midfielder Giovani Lo Celso covered more ground (11.78km) and played more passes than any Tottenham player
‘It happened again’ – what they said
Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho told BBC Match of the Day:“With a few draws of people in the same area of the table as us, it was very important to get three points. We still have an eye on fourth. It was a match where you know the quality of the opponent. You want to win, but you can lose. I’m delighted with the boys.
“Only [VAR] Kevin Friend can explain why it was not a red card [for Raheem Sterling]. He has the chance to watch again. That decision would change the game. It would probably not be such an enjoyable game, one team with one player more for an hour is a big advantage. I think it’s a clear red card.”
On Steven Bergwijn’s goal:“It’s the best way to come to a club. We were not putting pressure on him. We signed him early in the week, so we had time for him to train and speak. He’s very intelligent, humble. At home against the champions, to score a goal, not a normal goal, couldn’t be better for him.”
On beating Pep Guardiola:“It’s a pleasure to get three points in a match where we knew it would be very difficult. I have better feelings for Pep than you can imagine. We worked together for three years.”
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola on Sky Sports:“We played well but lost the game. It happened again. They had two shots and scored two goals.
“I don’t have too many things to say about the performance. We have to accept it and analyse it. It is not easy. We did really well, honestly.
“With this performance, how should I be critical? This performance would be an incredible mistake to say how bad they are. We created chances and conceded few.
“A few times this season it has happened. The sending off was a key point. We said at half-time be careful, yellow cards are a fast and quick action.”
Another City player sees red – the stats
Spurs picked up their first Premier League win against Manchester City since October 2016, which was also a 2-0 victory on home soil (at White Hart Lane).
Manchester City have now lost six games in the Premier League this season, their joint-most in a single campaign under manager Pep Guardiola (six in 2016-17).
Spurs boss Jose Mourinho picked up his sixth win against Guardiola across all competitions – only Jurgen Klopp has defeated him on more occasions (8). However, Mourinho has now won against Guardiola with four different teams (Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Spurs), the most of any manager.
Manchester City have gone consecutive games without scoring for the first time under Guardiola, having last done so back in March 2016 under Manuel Pellegrini (three games without a goal).
Steven Bergwijn’s opener for Spurs saw him become the 250th player to score on his debut in the Premier League, and the 13th Dutchman to do so.
Since the start of 2016-17, only Jamie Vardy (6) has scored more goals against Guardiola’s Manchester City than Spurs’ Son Heung-min (5) across all competitions.
Manchester City have failed to score four of the last six penalties they have taken across all competitions, with three different players accounting for these failed spot-kicks (Gabriel Jesus x2, Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan).
Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has saved three of the last four penalties he has faced in the Premier League – indeed, the Frenchman has now made the joint-most penalty saves for the club in the competition (five – along with Heurelho Gomes).
Oleksandr Zinchenko became the third Manchester City player to be sent off in the Premier League this season – no team have been awarded more red cards than Guardiola’s side in 2019-20.
What’s next?
Tottenham host Southampton in an FA Cup fourth-round replay on Wednesday, 5 February (19:45 GMT), before returning to Premier League action at Aston Villa on Sunday, 16 February (14:00).
Manchester City host West Ham in their next Premier League game on Sunday, 9 February (16:30).

Day 2 / Night 2 of Alon on Wildcard
- I should’ve called this Diary of a Madman like Guest Jason suggested in Slack but I had already posted it so whatever.
2:55pm EST
- Some mid-day tinkering for me while video files are being converted and I can’t work until they’re done.
- Laporte probably doesn’t make sense I mean how many more cleans are Man. City going to get in the foreseeable future then say Sheffield United with their great run of six fixtures? Not many for me. Even though Laporte is so good on bonus and has genuine goal threat the almost two million in savings seems very worth it to me.
- Spurs are sort of interesting... Hard to decisively figure out how good or bad they are because they’re so inconsistent but they only have one fixture (this GW home to Man. City) where they’ll be genuine underdogs for the rest of the season... Since the Mourinho hiring they’ve been basically level with Chelsea, Man. United, and Wolves and they have been better then Sheffield United, Leicester, and Arsenal so long story short they have a really long run of games where you can start their players... Lloris back also makes me a lot more confident in their ability to keep cleans (never thought I’d say that):
Pre-Mou: 1.35 NPxGA per match
With-Mou: 0.94 NPxGA per match
- To put those numbers into perspective Liverpool are the best defense in the league so far this season with a 0.96 NPxGA per match... Aurier’s putting up nice assist potential numbers (0.19 xA/90 since Mou came in, ~26th in the league among starters, and 7th among defenders). Son and Dele still putting up big numbers (7th and 12th in the league respectively among starters in NPxG/90+xA/90)... Hmm interesting stuff to fuck with there.
- Don’t really need a playing backup keeper yet. Once the next doubles come I’ll happily take a hit there to get in someone playing for my Bench Boost. Easy place to save money.
- Watford are good and in a relegation scrap and have mostly good fixtures. I miss Sarr :(... Deeney has been putting up huge numbers since Pearson’s come in so maybe Deeney should be taken more seriously... I wish Deulofeu were still a midfielder damn... Deeney since Pearson has been in is putting up very comparable numbers to Jimenez and he’s a lot cheaper but in this moment not sure what I’d even do with the money. Although the disparity in ownership is not something to scoff at, I’d be swerving Jimenez in three out of four tough fixtures. But Deeney also meh fixtures...
- Still hurts me inside to bin DCL and his next two/three fixtures (wat, CRY, ars) because I love him and he’s my boy and he’s been in great form... Might have to keep him and go DCL to Jimenez in GW27. Blah blah life is hard blah blah.
- Another thing I’m keeping an eye on is who has the exploitable fixtures? Who’s playing all of the worst teams? It’s sort of like bingo just looking through a season ticker looking for Aston Villa, West Ham, Newcastle, Bournemouth aaaand yeah those are probably the four. They’re in the worst defensive form... Southampton play three of the four and Norwich in the next six GWs: Ings √... anyone else? I still don’t like JWP as a fantasy pick. Bertrand putting up pretty good assist numbers, I have him every season at some point. Redmond had his monster haul but I don’t know if I have the Schtones to go there... Hmm...
- On the same theme Arsenal have three dings of the bell if you increase the fixture range a bit with NEW, WHU, and NOR in their next 8. Sheffield United maybe I won’t go three defenders because god damn their attacking fixtures are absurd with four dings of the bell BOU, (BHA), avl, NOR, new in five successive gameweeks. McBurnie putting up huge NPxG numbers since GW13 (inflated a bit by some sub appearances surely), Fleck has decent numbers where you could use him as a budget 4th mid and feel ok about it - should say that he’s way over-performing his expected numbers in this period so ya know, take it with a grain of salt but he’s still good. And lastly from an attacking perspective Enda Stevens is putting up legit creative numbers. Could see some assist+clean hauls in his near future, we like that a lot.
8:44pm EST
- Got home from work and went for a run only to come back and see Deeney price rose... wtf that’s annoying. Didn’t see him as being close to rising either I missed it or yet another miss for the price algorithm fucks... ugh
- Was just talking to some dudes on our Slack and was telling them that I need to go back and figure out what I used to be good at in FPL when I used to get decent ranks and have a lot more fun... It’s been yet again an utter disaster of a season just like last season and I’m here confused and lost and not sure who I even am as a manager... Bad feeling...
- Not sure if I’ll do much more tinkering tonight but we’ll see after dinner.
10:43pm EST
- Not in the mood to look at shit anymore. Tired and stressed... See ya tomorrow
- Alon

Tottenham lose at Southampton as Harry Kane limps off injured - football
Tottenham’s push for a top four finish in the Premier League suffered another setback on Wednesday as Danny Ings’s winner handed Southampton a well-deserved 1-0 win at St Mary’s, while England striker Harry Kane limped off with a hamstring injury.Ings produced the one real moment of quality in the game by lifting the ball over Toby Alderweireld before firing home his ninth goal in as many Premier League starts to lift the Saints up to 12th, six points clear of the relegation zone. There was little response from Jose Mourinho’s men as they slipped six points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, apart from the moment when Kane injured himself as he converted Christian Eriksen’s free-kick, but was flagged offside before hobbling down the tunnel.Ings’s goals have shot Southampton out of the bottom three in recent weeks and Spurs were unable to cope with the threat the former Liverpool striker early on.Inside the first five minutes Ings saw a shot blocked inside the area before right-back Cedric Soares headed wastefully wide from Ryan Bertrand’s teasing cross.Tottenham also had their chances at the other end in an open start as Alex McCarthy turned Kane’s deflected effort behind and Dele Alli saw half-hearted claims for a penalty waived away.Travel sick SpursSpurs have now gone a calendar year without a clean sheet away from home in the league and it was no surprise that Ings proved too sharp and skillful for a defence that Mourinho has been unable to tighten up since taking charge six weeks ago.Jack Stephens’s long ball over the top caught the Tottenham back line square and Ings coolly flicked the ball over the head of Alderweireld before slotting his 15th goal of the season past the helpless Paulo Gazzaniga.Southampton could have been further ahead by the break as only a last-ditch block from Alderweireld prevented Nathan Redmond turning in Stuart Armstrong’s dangerous cross. The Belgian defender was lucky to escape without conceding a penalty early in the second period as his arms were raised when he blocked Redmond’s cross inside the penalty area.Referee Mike Dean waived away claims for a spot-kick and was surprisingly not overruled by a VAR review.Southampton had only kept one clean sheet in the league since mid-September, but they coped comfortably as Kane, Alli, Eriksen and Lucas Moura struggled to create.Tottenham’s afternoon went from bad to worse when Kane pulled up as he slotted home Eriksen’s free-kick 15 minutes from time, but was flagged offside. The visitors ended the game in search of an equaliser without a recognised striker on the pitch with Son Heung-min also absent due to suspension.Mourinho’s frustration boiled over as he was shown a yellow card after an altercation with the Southampton bench.Moura’s deflected shot that skewed just wide was the closest Tottenham came to an equaliser, but even a point would have been more than they deserved to leave Mourinho with plenty to ponder ahead of Liverpool’s visit in their next league outing in 10 days’ time. Son Heung-min, Conte and affectionate hug shot 'Gong Yoo'

'Winning Contractor' Director Antonio Conte captured the heart of 'World Class' Son Heung-min. Son Heung-min, who had a thrilling comeback victory, shared the joy of sharing a friendly 'hug shot' with coach Conte after the game was over.
Tottenham Hotspur defeated Leeds United 2-1 in the 12th round of the English Premier League (EPL) for the 2021-22 season held at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England on the 22nd at 1:30 am (Korean time). As a result, Tottenham Hotspur escaped the swamp of three league draws and are in 7th place with 19 points.
Coach Conte brought out all of Tottenham's key players, including Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son, Sergio Reguilon, Pierre-Emil Hoyvier, Emerson Royal, and Hugo Lloris, to play against Leeds. But the game didn't go as planned. Tottenham, who struggled with opposing pressure, was dragged away at the end of the first half by conceding a run to Daniel James.
Tottenham's performance improved in the second half. Moura saved a cross from the flank in the 13th minute of the second half. Heuvier, who took over the cutback, shook Leeds' net to finish. A comeback goal came soon after. In the 24th minute of the second half, a free kick situation Dier's surprise shot hit the post. Afterwards, Reguilon pushed the second ball in and scored.
Liz, completely lost in the atmosphere, tried to turn the tide by putting in Tyler Roberts and Stuart McKinsey. Conte started to solidify with the addition of Ryan Sessegnon and Dele Alli. In the end, Tottenham took the lead and won the match 2-1.
It was an encouraging victory in many ways. He reported his first win in the EPL since Conte took over as manager, and escaped from the swamp of a draw in the third game. After the match, the Tottenham players embraced each other and rejoiced, and coach Conte also entered the field and shared a fierce high-five with the players to enjoy the victory.
Heung-Min Son could not be left out. Coach Conte, who shared a hug with each player, hugged Son Heung-min and praised him. Son Heung-min also responded with a bright smile. After the match, Son Heung-min shared his joy by posting a 'hug shot' with coach Conte through SNS.

The Premier League has an elite manager drought
Mauricio Pochettino getting fired from Tottenham showed just how few soccer managers are actually any good.
There are few things sadder than a football team that has come unmoored from itself. A collection of players and coaches who once supported and uplifted one another, became something greater than themselves, now strangers, staring accusingly at each other as they crash out of the League Cup.
And so the departure of Mauricio Pochettino from Spurs, like that of Jürgen Klopp from Dortmund before him, comes as something of a relief for everybody, except possibly Arsenal fans. There’s far too much misery in the world as it is, we don’t need Sad Dele Alli hanging around as well.
Still, not unwelcome as it may be, Pochettino’s departure, and the hiring of José Mourinho, says all sorts of interesting things about Tottenham, and about the broader state of the Premier League and elite European football. The most immediately striking fact is that Spurs, as much as they loved Pochettino, haven’t replaced him with the next Pochettino, whoever that might be.
When Pochettino went to Spurs he did so as potentially the Next Big Thing, on the back of impressive spells at Espanyol and then Southampton, who he took to eighth in the Premier League, recording wins over Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea in the process. A club like Spurs — big, but not Big, at that point — was the next point on an obviously upwards curve.
Indeed, in some ways Mourinho is the precise opposite: a huge CV, entirely front-loaded, with a spectacular downward trend in recent years. But then the field for the next Pochettino is pretty thin, at least within the Premier League. The Next Big Things are making muddled progress.
Marco Silva is embattled at Everton; Ralph Hasenhüttl likewise at Southampton. Nuno Espírito Santo’s second Premier League season isn’t going as well as the first. Frank de Boer flamed out at Crystal Palace. Eddie Howe is still Eddie Howe, and Bournemouth are still remarkable, in a quiet way. Maybe Howe gets the job if Mourinho faceplants and Spurs change tack?
No, Brendan Rodgers isn’t the next Pochettino. Don’t be silly. He’s the first and only Brendan Rodgers. And he certainly won’t be dropping 12 places in the league to prove that. Beyond England, Spurs were reportedly interested in Julian Nagelsmann, but apparently a year too late.
In any case, it appears Spurs have decided that now, post-Pochettino, they don’t need a new Pochettino. The club is already a Serious, Title-Contesting, Champions League contender, and it must have a Serious, Title-Contesting, Champions League manager to match. Whether Mourinho counts as one of those any more is, of course, an open question, and the entire country is looking forward to finding out that the answer is: LOL, no. But he certainly talks like one.
Mourinho: “We can’t win the league this season. We can - I’m not saying will - win the league next season.”
— Miguel Delaney (@MiguelDelaney) November 21, 2019
Thinking more broadly, something unusual is happening with England’s Big Six, and it’s not just the fact five of them are below Leicester City, three below Sheffield United, and one is in 12th. City and Liverpool have their excellent managers, managing their excellent teams excellently. But the other dugouts are strange places.
Manchester United and Chelsea are both overseen by men who got the jobs not on the strength of their managerial CVs, but on their playing careers. There is a gamble being made in both cases, even as one seems to be going better than the other.
Arsenal resisted this temptation — Mikel Arteta? No thanks! — and went for Unai Emery, who was experienced, safe, and kind of underwhelming. The result is a manager who isn’t doing particularly well and isn’t particularly liked. And now Spurs have got their own gamble in Mourinho Mk. III, promising old success through new methods and humility.
Among the Premier League’s six (theoretically) elite clubs, that makes just two unarguably elite managers. Solskjaer and Lampard might get there in the end, and Mourinho might get there again. Emery might surprise us all. But as it stands: two from six.
This disparity between the stature of elite clubs and their managers can be found outside the Premier League as well. Real Madrid are back with Zinedine Zidane after Julen Lopetegui flopped. Bayern Munich spent a season pottering along under Niko Kovač, and will likely be in caretaker hands until the end of the season. Barcelona have Ernesto Valverde, and nobody seems particularly happy about that. Thomas Tuchel at PSG, ditto. Maurizio Sarri at Juventus, ditto ditto.
Indeed, with Antonio Conte fresh in at Inter and Diego Simeone still enthroned at Atlético Madrid, the process of hiring a Serious, Title-Contesting, Champions League manager at this precise moment probably runs something like this:
Step 1: Is Max Allegri interested?
Step 2: No? Sure?
Step 3: Right, fine, better give José a call.
Perhaps the top level of football has arrived at a fundamental imbalance: too many Big Clubs, not enough Big Men to go around. The relentless churn probably doesn’t help. Go back to the merry-go-round enough, and eventually you’ll have to start making some interesting choices.
Or perhaps this is just a cyclical thing. Perhaps the next generation of elite coaches — Lampard, Rodgers, Nagelsmann, Erik ten Hag, all the other promising coaches who aren’t yet being hired by the big clubs — will be here soon, and will sort themselves into their rightful dugouts. Or take their current clubs with them. Maybe Leicester are making a permanent charge into the Premier League’s Big [Number To Be Determined].
We should note that thinking about managers too hard runs the risk of reducing football down to some heroic great man psychodrama: Those Marvellous Men And Their Flying Clipboards. A great team doesn’t necessarily need an already-acknowledged-as-great manager. And a team good enough to win a few trophies here and there definitely doesn’t. More important is the right manager in the right structure. That way the individual brilliance, the squad, and the money all end up pointing in the same direction.
But if you do enjoy indulging in a big of that psychodrama, then Big Coach hiring process has just gotten a little more interesting for every elite club that isn’t Tottenham, since: hooray! Pochettino is available! Although hopefully he takes a little break first. Spends some time with his family. Catches up on his reading. It’s a tough gig, management. And then comes the summer and the job offers.
(Maybe even earlier, if the Solskjaer experiment goes wrong again. You suspect Pochettino would be a fool to go and work for United in their current state, but equally, United would be fools not to see if he could be swayed.)
Perhaps Pochettino’s likely popularity is evidence itself of the imbalanced managerial market. His mantelpiece is empty, bar some Manager of the Month awards, a couple of silver medals, and several Arsène Wenger awards for Champions League qualification.
But in his time at Spurs he made average players good, good players great, and for a couple of years he had them playing aggressive, attacking football of the very highest quality. Everybody wants all of that. And when there isn’t enough proven greatness to go around, the sense of greatness to come will have to do.
