Q: what do I do if a green witch desealed me?
[memories of a misbegotten childhood ...]
You know, whenever a Green Witch defuels, depuddles, deseals and purges me of all my precious bodily fluids I remember the advice that my auntie would give me while reading to me my favorite childhood picture book: Hothead Paisan, Homicidal Lesbian Terrorist:
Indeed.

(current) Kapūkakī (Oʻahu Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility) timeline:
[prior to the current events surrounding Kapūkakī, an estimated ~180000 gallons of fuel have leaked from the facility into the environment since it's installation, the largest confirmed leak being ~27000 gallons in 2014]
November 2021: several thousands of gallons of jet fuel are leaked from the fuel tanks directly into Oʻahu's main aquifer. the Navy denies allegations of poisoned water until pets are confirmed dead and hundreds of residents-- both affiliated with the Navy¬-- receive medical attention in response to chemical poisoning, the most severely effected being pregnant women and infants. when the Navy finally confirms the leakage, it is also revealed that a smaller fuel spill occurred and was covered up in May 2021.
December 2021: after sustained public pressure and a court battle over an emergency order given by the governor of Hawaiʻi, the Navy was finally forced to follow the order to defuel the tanks. despite the contaminated aquifer supplying a minimum of 20% of urban Oʻahu with water&roughly ~10000 residents confirmed ill enough to seek medical intervention, the Navy only offered their own people any form of assistance, financial or otherwise.
June 2022: several wells that relied on the main aquifer have been closed indefinitely. after decades of water restrictions to local residents, further restrictions&price hikes are leveled to accommodate the island's fresh water shortage. the Navy has yet to release a plan to defuel the facility though the Pentagon has tentatively estimated a minimum of two years for the procedure. a report is released documenting the Navy's negligencein regards to Red Hill&specifying that this history of fuel leaks was wholly preventable.
October 2022: the Navy officially confirms a plan that will have Red Hill defuled by 2024 at earliest, &states their desire to keep the storage facility&tanks in place for future use outside of fuel-specific storage, despite the over-all dilapidated conditions of both.
November 2022: 1100 gallons of toxic fire suppressant-- a toxic chemical that does not break down-- is spilled during the defueling&decommissioning of Red Hill. as with every other leak&spillage, the Navy confirms late&alleges no camera footage to confirm how the leak happened.
December 2022: camera footage of the fire suppressant leak is released, &the leak amount is upped from an estimated ~1100 gallons to a ~1300 gallons. the Navy has denied all offers from any public body to assist or oversee cleanup. as with every other instance of the Navy poisoning drinking water, no assistance has been offered to local residents unaffiliated with the Navy itself.
#this took way too long to write out lmao but as always the hatred in my black heart has fueled me to completion.#i dont even have words for the depths of my fucking fury.

Context (starting with the present and working backwards)
7:30 I make this meme.
6:40 I sit on the floor of the bus depot, put my headphones on, and start sobbing
6:32 I call my mom. I start crying. My mom has to go give a presentation at work so she will call me back to help.
6:31 I realize the next bus is at 11:00. I am stranded in Chicago.
6:29 I go to the information desk. She tells me the bus I needed to be on was the bus I tried to get on but it already left. She also tells me she announced it twice. She did not. I ask if I can book another ticket and she tells me I have to go online.
6:20 I try to get on the bus but the gate agent tells me it's the wrong gate. I wander around reading all the bus numbers. I can't find my bus.
6:15 I arrive at the bus station and go through the check-in booth.
5:33 I realize I left my monster in the mini fridge in my hotel room.
5:30 I get in a cab to go from my hotel to the bus station .
5:25 I throw on my shorts and put my stuff in my backpack.
5:15 I get up to my third alarm.
1:00 I turn off the lights and go to sleep.
00:14 My door dash dinner and snacks for the bus ride arrive (shout out to Juan)
23:00 I wash my underwear in the bathroom sink using shampoo and dry it with the hair dryer. I order door dash.
22:30 We somehow didn't die during the drive. The shuttle from the airport gets to the hotel and we all disembark and go inside. My phone is dead so I plug it in and write my confirmation number on my hand so I can check in. The people at the front desk give me a room key and I go to my room.
22:15 I call the hotel to ask if the shuttle is running. They say to go to door four. I walk there and my shuttle pulls up. The driver asks to see my voucher and I show it to him. My phone promptly dies. The shuttle driver drives us to the hotel like he is being chased by the cops or something.
22:00 I get off the plane and walk towards baggage claim. I find the United baggage help desk and stand in line. I ask if I can get my bag so I can have clean clothes before my flight at eight pm tomorrow. The guy tells me I would have to wait four hours. I leave.
21:08 We finally take off. Four hours late. My phone is at 12%
18:17 The gate agent puts me on a different connecting flight to get home. The flight boards at 20:50. At this point my flight to Chicago is set to leave at 20:00. Because of time zones I should make it in plenty of time.
18:00 I get in line to talk to the gate agent.
17:45 The captain announces that there is too much fuel on the plane because it was supposed to go to Denver yesterday and that did not happen so we have to either defuel the plane or fly over Canada and Nebraska before going to Chicago. People angrily storm off, fixing the overbooking issue.
17:13 I realize my flight is definitely not taking off on time because we haven't started boarding.
16:30 People start lining up to board even though no one has volunteered.
16:00 The gate agent announces we need a volunteer to give up their seat on the flight and we can't board until that happens.
15:30 I get to my gate and sit down
15:00 I get to the airport for my 17:13 flight that boards at 16:38

Very cool and interesting seeing the above behavior perpetuated by people who make a big deal out of being anti-racist, as if one of the US government's favorite pastimes wasn't poisoning majority-Indigenous water lines and supplies. Cool social justice dunk on those Imternet assholes, bro, but what are you doing to make sure Red Hill gets defueled as soon as possible so that the residents of downtown fucking Honolulu don't have to deal with polluted water?
Begging begging begging leftists... "leftists" to stop using ableism to attack fascists and people who are threats to humanity and the Earth
White supremacist #57 is not "smooth brained" or "psychotic" or "a sociopath" he is anti-human, violent, and a fascist
Stop making jokes about old politicians having strokes or having cancer or catching x y or z life-long illness because disability is not a punishment, it is a morally neutral state of being
Stop and actually think about disabled people for once. We exist. And we're not in greater leftist circles because nondisabled people never include us, never think about us, never wonder what a perfect world would be like with us in it unless they're also disabled

[excerpt from the Honolulu Civil Beat: "Tuesday’s announcement marks the first time the Navy has given a timeline for Red Hill’s permanent closure. The closure plan is separate from the defueling process, which is slated to be complete by the end of June 2024.
Hawaii’s health department ordered the Navy to remove the fuel from Red Hill last year after thousands of gallons of jet fuel contaminated the drinking water of Pearl Harbor-area families. Amid sustained community and political pressure, the secretary of defense subsequently ordered the facility to be shut down for good.
“Permanent closure of the Red Hill tanks is long overdue,” the agency said.
However, the water utility said it has concerns about how long it will take to decommission the facility and the Navy’s desire to leave its fuel storage infrastructure in place. BWS officials also felt the plan lacked detail and stakeholder input.
The Sierra Club of Hawaii also has concerns, according to executive director Wayne Tanaka.
“I understand the cost and safety concerns associated with removing the Red Hill tanks,” Tanaka, an engineer, said in a statement.
“However, I cannot imagine how it would ever be considered safe to reuse them for the storage of anything, even non-fuel substances, given their proximity to our aquifer, their dilapidated condition, and environmental issues like the continual infiltration of rainwater that corroded the tanks and other infrastructure for 80 years.”
He noted that Red Hill could pose longterm threats to the aquifer even after the tanks are drained." /end text]
🙃
i genuinely have no idea why i'm so shocked, lmao.
it only took a full year from the initial publicized leak (&a full year and a half from the leak they lied about in May 2021) that poisoned thousands of families, killed pets, &left infants hospitalized to announce a timeline to defuel.
i suppose a full two years (at best) to defuel, &five to decide whether or not they'll be keeping the decaying WWII era tanks in place (despite the fact that the tanks themselves rusting into the environment were a concern before they allowed thousands of gallons of fuel to leak into the islands primary water source) is only to be expected.
if they don't drag this out as long as humanly possible while also making it near impossible for average local residents to show up to meetings about what's happening, how else are they going to slowly let this all be forgotten so they can continue to abuse the islands they stole??

(above image is a screenshot of my tags that read, "yeah we see you haoles going 'UGH COLONIZER 🙄' at her but not like. fuckin zuckerberg who tried to BUY OUT AN ENTIRE ISLAND." end ID)
The ideal next step you can take, and I mean this less as a way to tattle on your misspellings and more as a way to springboard the kamaʻāina to more people, is by learning a bit about ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi (the Hawaiʻian language). The "apostrophe" isn't optional in modern spelling; it's a proper letter called an ʻokina that indicates a stop. It's not just a regular apostrophe (so please use that specific Unicode character when you can), and ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi deserves the respect and dignity of its words being spelled correctly. The language is phonetic, and off the top of my head, I know the University of Hawaiʻi has plenty of resources for anyone interested in learning ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi 🤙
But yeah, it feels utterly bizarre watching people acknowledge Hawaiʻi maybe once a year, usually around the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, and completely ignore all our problems at all other times unless we can be used as a political weapon to further someone's ideology. (I won't forget the heinous things I saw people say about Hawaiʻi and the kamaʻāina right after the Maui wildfires from some months ago.)
To a depressing amount of people, Hawaiʻi is more of a fictional concept than a living place with real people suffering from real problems. Meanwhile, the US military is still throwing up its hands and going, "ah geez!! 🥺 uhm, I don't think we can stop polluting the Honolulu water supply~ 👉👈 It's really important that we not do anything about defueling Red Hill so it stops leaking!!" ad nauseaum. Upsetting but unsurprising things, y'know. I'm begging all y'all to keep Hawaiʻi in mind, especially since we can't just drive to another state or something. Mahalo nui nui nui loa for your interest in the kamaʻāina, and please keep us in mind, don't forget about us 🌺
I'm seeing White liberals/leftists getting angry at Oprah over the situation at Maui and I just want to say this real quick:
Again, I want to preface this by saying that I'm not defending Oprah Winfrey for owning Hawaiian land, because she shouldn't. But I also want to point out that the White pple getting angry at Oprah specifically is problematic becos:
1) it individualizes the problem and does not allow for further interrogation of US colonization of Hawaii and how the US goverment created the very conditions that allowed wealthy Americans to own Hawaiian land in the first place.
2) of the fact that Black women, will face harsher scrutiny than their White counterparts for every action they do, and Oprah is a hypervisible wealthy Black woman. I don't see the same vitriol targeted towards White wealthy celebrities who own property in Hawaii like Jeff Bezos or Owen Wilson or Woody Harrelson or Willie Nelson or Jim Carrey, and so many more if you do a quick google of "celebrities who own Hawaii property".
That is why I get wary when I see White and non-Black pple criticize Black public figures, simply because a lot of them, even if they are left-leaning, don't examine their antiblack bias and hence, don't question why they react so excessively vitriolic towards Black women. And sometimes, the criticism devolves into microaggressions, like it did with Lizzo and Carlee Russell.

PANTS ON FIRE
I don’t know how many people have seen Grant Shapps slick promotional video setting out the government's future energy programme for Britain. Below is a transcript of the video voice-over spoken by Grant Shapps himself.
“As Secretary of Stare for Energy Security and Net Zero, my ambition is that by 2035 we'll have the lowest wholesale electricity prices in Europe. We already have three of the largest offshore wind farms We’re driving forward huge nuclear projects to power millions of homes. I'll set Britain on a course to energy security by radically increasing production of renewables and nuclear and creating hundreds of thousands of green jobs in the process”
Putting aside that Grant Shapps has posted misleading statements concerning his past business activities, attracted the headline “Grant Shapps is a lying liar who tells lies” (Bloggerheads: 17/03/15) and more recently was called a liar by Aslef leader in a row over rail strikes, lets look more closely at what Shapps has to say about energy security and energy prices.
The first thing to note is that all the promises being made by Shapps will not be operational until 2035 – that is in 12 years time! Who will even remember such a promise was made by the time 2035 comes around?
Second, Shapps promises the “lowest wholesale electricity prices in Europe”. One obvious question here is: What about gas prices? According to the Financial Times:
“The UK’s gas imports will increase dramatically over the next 30 years, according to official forecasts, even if all of the existing North Sea reserves are exploited." (10/02/22)
Over 80% of Britain's households are heated by gas boilers and gas is also a critical source of heat in many industries. Although there is a push on swapping gas boilers for heat pumps even the Energy and Utilities Alliance admit that “54% of UK homes using gas for heating will not be suitable for a heat pump.” (21/04/21)
If gas prices continue to remain high then for those of us in old housing stock and reliant on gas, the cheap price of electricity is hardly relevant. But there is another problem. What Grant Shapps has neglected to tell us is that at present
“the UK’s energy system enables the wholesale cost of gas to determine the price of electricity”. (Energy Live News: 14/06/22)
In other words, it doesn’t matter how cheap our home produced electricity is, the price to the consumer is dictated by the international price of gas.
This brings us to the third problem with Shapps statement. He talks of “wholesale" prices and not retail prices. As energy consumers we buy our gas and electricity from the retail arm of the energy industry. The retailers buy the energy they sell to us from the wholesalers. So, even if Shapps succeeds in the UK having the “lowest wholesale prices in Europe” there is NO guarantee those cheap prices will be passed on to us, the consumer.
We have all been shocked by the obscene profits being made by the energy wholesalers over recent months. There is no mention by Shapps that this will not continue to happen. What matters to consumers is the retail price of electricity, not the wholesale production price.
Fourthly, Shapps proudly cites the UK has three of the largest off-shore wind farms. So what? Danish company Orsted owns 100% of the UK's largest wind farm, and EDF a French firm, together with Tenaga Nationai Berhad, a Malaysian multinational company, own the third largest. The only thing these companies will be interested in is maximizing profit, not providing cheap electricity for UK consumers.
As for nuclear power - well, where to begin? EDF – 100% owned by the French State - owns and manages FIVE operating and TWO defuelling reactor sites in the UK. No British firm or consortium of firms is capable of building nuclear reactors from scratch, so the UK is totally dependent upon foreign investors for nuclear expansion. The first priority of foreign investment is to provide profits for their investors, not cheap electricity for British consumers.
In conclusion, even if you could hold your breath until 2035, don’t believe everything that Grant Shapps says or implies. Whether Shapps is “a lying liar who tells lies”, I leave for others to decide but he certainly isn’t telling us the whole truth about future energy prices.
