Visual Writing Prompt #003
“Hunting Season”
In Appalachia, hunting is a part of our lifestyle. A lot of our ancestors (recent ancestors at that!) hunted for food when they could. We still eat venison and enjoy the heritage behind it. (Here’s a blog for reference!)
TW: Suggestive Content (but nothing graphic!)

please let the deer, with marks of faith and prayers on its skin, reach some kind of heaven.

Bait and switch
If you live in Michigan, you may have noticed mini-mountains of apples, sugar beets and corn suddenly rising up at your local gas station.
You may have deduced that the produce isn't meant for human consumption and, noting that it's hunting season, said to yourself, "I thought baiting deer was illegal in Michigan."
You would be right; supplemental feeding of deer - by hunters, or by those who simply like to watch them from their back windows - is strictly against state law. The ban was imposed in 2018 as an attempt to stem the spread of chronic wasting disease in the herd.
And it doesn't matter if you actually intend to feed wildlife other than deer; if it's on the ground and attracts deer - inadvertently, or not - it's still a violation.
The thing is, while it's illegal to use the bait for it's intended purpose, it's not illegal to sell it.

this isn't as good as @donnathepirana's headline but I like the journalist calling her readers turkeys.

Also from a financial standpoint your comprehensive insurance deductible is usually lower than your collision deductible (it's considered collision when you hit a stationary object, comprehensive covers animals running into your lane and acts of God)
Deer season is upon us.
1.) Wear your seatbelt.
2.) If your choice is swerve at high speed or hit the deer you plow Bambis mom like you’re an IT specialist with a secret Twitter account and it’s anthrocon weekend.
Deer are softer than trees. Deer are softer than rolling your car 8 times.

I have taken psychic and emotional damage, today.
On my way home from town, I saw someone kill a deer… … with their bare vehicle.
I guess it was bound to happen eventually. Especially on a warm winter day on a busy road in the middle of town. Poor deer.
And yes, the person driving was okay. Their vehicle? Not as much.
