Recycling is also a sport!
Tumblr media
The Recyclerie Sportive is a meeting place allowing individuals to repair their bikes themselves in the presence of a professional who gives advice, old bikes and parts are donated to the association which sells them at a reasonable price, association , workshop, do-it-yourself, leisure, hand, population, neighbourhood, recovery, repair, sport, transport, work, bicycle bike wheel tire intervention.
A network of “sports recycling centres” offers to come and equip yourself at a lower cost to practice a physical activity. A way to promote equal access to sport and limit its waste.
The stalls are overflowing. On one side, pairs of rollerblades, sports jerseys, sneakers. On the other, gym balls, a few exercise bikes, rain boots and even… a vintage fishing stool. Welcome to the Recyclerie Sportive de Massy (Essonne)[1], located in a former SNCF station of more than 400 square meters[2]. Here, as well as in the eight shops in the network, for a sum rarely exceeding 10 euros and for an annual fee of around 5 euros, you can find everything to equip yourself second-hand without getting bankrupt. For the founders of this new kind of thrift store, Bérénice Dinet and Marc Bultez, the ambition is clear: to make sports accessible to everyone, particularly the most modest, while limiting waste. “In 2022, we collected 5.8 tons of equipment from the general public and from brands like Decathlon. These are mostly used, defective or unsold products. We repair them and offer equipment for resale for more than twenty different sports,” rejoices Alice Eveillé, manager of the Massy[3] site. However, the association does not only sell used sports equipment: it organises actions for its 1,740 members, to raise awareness of global warming and to promote cycling as an ecological means of transport.
Ecoplace
That afternoon, precisely, we find Bernard. He runs a co-repair workshop dedicated to bicycles in order to avoid buying new. In the back of the shop, several enthusiasts of odds and ends are busy helping members who have come to repair their two wheels. Among them, Antoine appreciates being given advice and tips, “not just having his bike repaired for him” Further upstairs, there is a series of rooms dedicated to activities: massages, yoga, box, psychotherapists or oriental dance. The association joins forces with other structures to diversify its offer and become a third place.
“Sports have an environmental impact”
The fight of the network of recycling centres goes beyond mere recovery. They campaign for the promotion of "slow-sport", heir to the "slow food" movement (as opposed to fast food). The idea? Practicing sports “while respecting yourself, but also respecting others and your environment”. With his project and a few months before the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, Marc Bultez promotes zero waste sports. “We have to make it clear that sport has an environmental impact.” The Environment and Energy Management Agency (Ademe)[4] recalls that of the 186,000 tonnes of sports equipment put on the market per year in France, 104,000 tonnes are still thrown away...

[1] The Recyclerie Sportive project was born in June 2015 from the meeting of two actors, respectively from the world of sport and waste management. As part of the circular economy, the Recyclerie Sportive provides goods and services in a sustainable manner, limiting the consumption and waste of resources (raw materials, water, energy) as well as the production of waste. It is a question of breaking with the model of the linear economy (extract, manufacture, consume, throw away) to move towards a “circular” economic model in the field of sport. The association aims to promote access to sport for all and to prioritize the development of local employment and the professional integration of people in difficulty. https://recyclerie-sportive.org/ma-recyclerie-sportive/ma-rs-la-plus-proche/massy-palaiseau/
[2] La Recyclerie sportive also has two other points of sale in Ile-de-France, one in Boulogne and the other in the 17th arrondissement of the capital, currently under renovation, not to mention five other premises in the Hexagon.
[3] Massy is a commune in the southern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located 14.7 kilometres from the centre of Paris.
[4] Committed for 30 years to the fight against climate change and the degradation of resources, Agence de la transition écologique (ADEME) is determined to move the lines to build a more sober and united society. We put ourselves at the service of all stakeholders (State, companies, communities, citizens) to accelerate the reduction of our energy consumption, develop renewable energies and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. https://www.ademe.fr/lagence/

That Should Be Me
Pairing: Peter Parker x Reader
Synopsis: Peter hates your boyfriend almost as much as he loves Justin Bieber
Warnings: misogyny, jealously
Masterlist
Tumblr media
“Wah.” You mumbled to yourself. Peter pulled himself away from his homework and looked at you. You were tangled in his sheets, makeup free and concentrating hard on your calculus homework.
“What’s wrong?” Peter asked with a coy smile. He felt like he could look at you forever. You ran your fingers through your hair and sighed.
“Gravity and my hair are working against me.” You said as hair fell into your eyes to prove you’re point.
“I got you.” Peter chuckled at your drama and got out of his desk chair. He sat next to you on the bed and gathered your hair in his hands. He divided your hair into three parts and braided in neatly. He was careful not to tug too hard or pull any baby hairs. He secured the end with your strawberry patterned scrunchie that he kept around his wrist at all times. He smiled proudly at his work as you reached back to feel the braid.
“Where did you learn how to braid hair?” You asked with a surprised smile. “And when?”
“May taught me. And I’ve practiced on you before when you’re sleeping.” Peter admitted. “Is that creepy?”
“It’s definitely creepy.” You nodded. “But it’s the sweet kind of creepy, so I’ll allow it.”
“I’m scared to know other things classify as the sweet kind of creepy.” Peter chuckled again, flopping on the bed beside you. You rolled onto your back and curled into Peter’s side. He cooks feel your heartbeat against his ribcage and he prayed you couldn’t feel his.
“Never you mind. Thanks for the braid.” You toyed with your braid, admitting his work.
“Anytime.” Peter smiled at you, feeling his face heat up at his close you were.
“I can’t believe you still carry this around.” You played with the scrunchie at the end of your braid, remembering when you gave it to him freshman year because it clashed with your outfit.
“It’s my good luck charm. I plan on wearing it as I cross the stage at graduation to make my salutatorian speech.” Peter joked just that get a rise out of you.
“Peter Parker, you are not crossing the stage at graduation while wearing a strawberry scrunchie.” You warned him up front. “And you’re brilliant. How come you’re the salutatorian in this scenario? Who’s the valedictorian?”
“You.” Peter said like it were obvious. You couldn’t help but smile as his compliment.
“You gas me up too much.” You nudged his side. “I don’t deserve it.”
“You do deserve it.” Peter replied bashfully. You look at him through your eyelashes, studying his boyish features. You reached over and ran your thumb over his wild eyebrow in your endless attempt to smooth it down.
“You know I love you, don’t you?” You said softly as you looked into his eyes.
“How could I ever forget?” Peter smiled.
You were soulmates. Meant to be. Peter was sure of it. There was just one little problem.
You had a boyfriend.
Harry Osborn, class president of the Midtown Tech Junior class. He was an inch shorter than Peter, so yes, he was a little problem. It was important to Peter that people knew about their height difference.
Harry stole your heart at the sophomore winter formal. Peter had ditched you, much to his dismay, to go fight Adrian Toomes. Harry found you sitting alone on the bleachers and swooped in to save the day. The rest was history.
You’d been with Harry for over a year. It was old news. Nothing new. But everytime Peter saw Harry holding your hand or kissing your cheek, he had one thought:
That should be me
Your relationship with Harry was very different from your relationship with Peter.
“You coming to my game later?” Harry asked as he swiped through Instagram.
“Uh, I actually have plans to study with Peter.” You replied carefully, not wanting to spark his temper.
“Can’t Penis Parker study on his own?” Harry grumbled disdainfully.
“It’s Peter Parker and no, we always study together.” You said through a clenched smile.
“I cannot believe you’re ditching me for that geek. Some girlfriend you are.” Harry looked up from his phone and gave you a look.
“I went to almost all of your games this season, Harry. And not for nothing, you haven’t shown up to a single decathlon debate that I’ve invited you to.” You reminded him as you threw books in your locker.
“Because I have better things to do than watch nerd-palooza.” Harry snorted as if it were offensive you even asked.
“It’d be nice if you supported me.” You said quietly.
“And it’d be nice to have a girlfriend that watched my games instead of studying with the school freak.” Harry shot back.
“He’s not a freak. He’s my friend.” You corrected. “And you know math isn’t my strongest subject. Sorry, but I have to study.”
“Whatever.” Harry grumbled with a roll of his eyes.
“Don’t you have a game next week downtown?” You tried to lighten the mood.
“It’s in two weeks and it’s uptown, stupid.” Harry brought it right back down. “Do you even listen to me?”
“I’m sorry I-“ You began.
“Forget it. I have to go. I told Stacy I’d meet up with her before the game so she could show me the new cheer routine.” Harry said just to spite you.
“You’re hanging out with Stacy again?” You asked without looking at him. “I thought you guys had a nasty breakup?”
“We’re friends now. At least I can talk to her.” Harry shrugged. “Later.”
“Bye.” You said, but he had already walked away.
“Hey, so, I hate him.” Peter stepped in next to you after having witnessed the conversation.
“Join the club.” You laughed sadly.
“I started the club.” Peter insisted and you chuckled.
“Well, he’s not your biggest fan either.” You reminded him with a smile.
“Then why are you still with him?” Peter wondered. You stiffened for a moment before putting the rest of your books in your locker.
“We’ve been together for over a year. I can’t just dump him. That’s mean.” You said quietly, not meeting Peter’s eye as he leaned against the lockers.
“And the way he treats you, that’s not mean?” Peter asked you gently.
“That’s just how we are.” You shrugged.
“But are you happy with that?” He inquired.
“He loves me.” You replied stiffly.
“Okay. Great. Are you happy?” Peter repeated when you dodged his question.
“We have to get to class.” You muttered, shutting your locker and putting your backpack on your shoulder.
“You’re not stupid, by the way. You’re the smartest one in this school. He’d know that if he showed up to a single decathlon debate.” Peter said bitterly.
“It’s fine.“ You dismissed.
“He has no business calling you that. Especially since he asked me how to spell “elevator” the other day.” Peter continued.
“It’s fine, Peter.” You repeated, wishing he’d drop the subject.
“It’s not fine. You deserve better.” He stopped you and looked you in the eyes. It infuriated him that Harry had something so valuable but treated her like she meant nothing. If you were Peter’s girlfriend, you wouldn’t be upset all the time. You’d enjoy life again. He wished he could show you that.
“Whatever that means.” You smiled sadly, dropping the subject.
Peter hated Harry, and Harry wasn’t too fond of Peter in return. Harry didn’t like the way Peter was always touching you, always with you, or how some days, you’d show up wearing Peters hoodie.
“I was just cold, babe. He leant it to me. That’s all.” You’d assure your jealous boyfriend.
Peter hated seeing you two together. Not even because Harry was dating the girl Peter loved, though that was part of it. He hated the way Harry treated you. He’d cheat on you and you knew it. You were just too naive to break it off.
“He said he won’t do it again.” You said through your reoccurring tears.
“He said that about the last four cheerleaders he hooked up with.” Peter reminded you as he stroked your hair. “You knew he and Stacy were more than just friends.”
“He loves me.” You’d insist, even when you no longer believed it.
“This isn’t love, darling.” Peter pulled you into his chest as you let out more sobs. “This is not love.”
In addition to that, Harry saw you as nothing more than a pretty face. While Peter and you’re friends knew your pretty face was the least interesting thing about you, Harry couldn’t see past that. You were smart, funny, brave, witty, talented, and big hearted. To Harry, you were hot and available. Peter wanted to smack the smug smirk off Harry’s face every time he smacked your butt, despite the many times you told him you hated that, or when he’d speak loudly of your alleged “encounters” in the locker room.
“You won’t believe what my girl did to me last night.” Harry boasted as he sprayed deodorant under his arms. Peter kept to himself as he changed into his gym uniform in the corner, but he listened closely as Harry’s meathead friends pressed him for details.
“You wouldn’t even believe it if I told you. My girl is a freak.” Harry said smugly. Peter knew damn well you and Harry had never gone past kissing. Not even passionate kissing. Pecks and kisses on cheeks, as you told Peter. You always stopped things when they went out of your comfort zone, and Harry always found what you wouldn’t give him with another girl. It was a painful cycle that you wouldn’t break, though Peter wished you would. And Peter also knew you spent last night in his bedroom, not Harry’s, studying for chemistry while chucking paper balls at each other. So whoever Harry was talking about, it wasn’t you.
“My bitch will do anything I say. She’s like a damn dog, always begging for it.” Harry laughed.
“Damn. Y/n is a freak!” A member of Harry’s entourage cheered.
Peter had tried to bite his tongue, but he just couldn’t. How dare someone speak of you that way, he thought. He closed his locker and stormed up tk where Harry and his friends were.
“First of all, women aren’t “bitches”, you neanderthal.” Peter sighed. “And Y/n was with me last night. So whatever “freak” you were getting your jollies off with last night, it wasn’t her. We both know she never has and never will want that from you.” Peter said coldly. Harry and his friends looked at Peter with surprised smiles.
“Listen Parker, I don’t know what “jollies” are, but you better watch your mouth.” Harry warned.
“And if I don’t? What are you gonna do? Cheat on me?” Peter was feeling brave and had a little time on his hands.
“Parker, you’re stupid with two o’s if you think you can speak to me that way.” Harry stepped up to Peter. Peter smirked a little, relishing in the one inch of height he had on Harry.
“But you can speak about Y/n all you want right? That’s how that works?” Peter tilted his head to the side.
“Why don’t you shut up before I make you?” Harry cracked his fingers.
“Go on then, make me” ,Peter smiled before adding, “shorty.”
Harry threw a punch at Peter, which Peter caught with ease. He didn’t punch Harry back. He didn’t need too. The shocked look on Harry’s face was enough.
“Nice bracelet, Parker. Your boyfriend give it to you?” Harry scraped his dignity together to insult the scrunchie Peter wore on his wrist. Your scrunchie.
“It’s Y/n’s.” Peter replied, and he saw the jealous fire ignite behind Harry’s eyes. “And I’m not gonna fight you, Harry. But I am gonna warn you. You need to break up with Y/n. She won’t do it, even though she knows she needs too.”
“And what if I don’t?” Harry asked through a clenched jaw. “What are you gonna do?“
“I…” Peter trailed off. He didn’t know what he was gonna do. He didn’t have a plan before threatening Harry.
“That’s what I thought.” Harry smirked. He banged the locker next to Peters head and walked away.
Peter went home that day carrying a greater hatred for Harry than he had woken up with.
It seemed every encounter with your boyfriend further proved Peter’s point that he was no good for you. Peter wasn’t a stranger to this feeling. He had a remedy for when he was in his feelings.
“Karen, play That Should Be Me by Justin Bieber.” Peter ordered. The music started playing and Peter grabbed a comb to sing into. He sang to his reflection at the top of his lungs.
“Do you do what you did when you did with me? Does he love you the way I can?“ Peter belted into the comb.
“Very good, Peter.” Karen commented.
“Thanks, Karen.” The eyes of his mask gave the mirror a comical wink before he went back to his song. “That should be me, holding your hand. That should be me, making you laugh. That should be me, this is so sad.”
“Period.” Karen said.
“That should be me, feeling your kiss. That should be me, buying you gifts.” Peter was screaming now. “This is so wrong. I can't go on ‘till you believe that should be me.”
Peter finished his ballad within the hour and left for patrol. By six, he was home from patrol, showered, and had you laying on his bed skimming through a history textbook.
“I just don’t believe you.” You said absentmindedly.
“It’s true! You have to believe me.” Peter exclaimed.
“Birds don’t fly in the shape of the Star of David, Peter.” You looked up from the textbook. “I don’t buy it.”
“But I literally saw it when I was on patrol! I’ll prove it to you.” Peter got out of his chair and grabbed his Spider-Man mask.
“How?” You asked, loving who worked up he was getting.
“Karen records everything I see. Put my mask on and I’ll show you the birds.” Peter held the mask out to you. You looked at it skeptically until a smile crossed your face.
“Okay, but the second your mask starts to smell like Axe and pizza rolls, I’m taking it off.” You told him.
“Whatever you say.” Peter laughed as he slipped the mask on over your face. “Karen, play footage from earlier today.”
“Playing footage from January 27th.” Karen said dutifully.
“I need to know should I fight for our love or disarm. It's getting harder to shield this pain in my heart.” Footage of Peter singing into a hair comb in the mirror with his Spider-Man mask on his face appeared in front of you.
“What is this?” You laughed. Peter’s heart stopped when he heard the dulcet sounds of Justin Bieber coming from the mask.
“Oh dear God.” Peter whispered. He lunged for the mask but you backed away.
“No, I need to see this.” You said through your laughter as you watched the video.
“Y/n.” Peter whined as he attempted to get the mask off your head.
“That should be ME, holding your hand! That should be ME, making you laugh!” Peter screamed as Karen egged him on. “That should be ME, this is so sad.”
“How could you not tell me you have Bieber Fever?” You asked in pretend offense.
“Karen, fast forward!” Peter shouted. The video feed fast forwarded to Peter, still in front of his mirror, panting heavily from his previous performance.
“Are we an item? Girl, quit playing. We’re just friends, what are you saying? Said "There’s another," and looked right in my eyes. My first love broke my heart for the first time, and I was like baby, baby, baby oh.” A video of Peter singing “Baby” appeared before you.
“FAST FOWARD KAREN!” Peter yelled again.
“Karen, play Boyfriend by Big Time Rush.” Peter said into the mirror in the video.
“There’s more?!” You nearly shrieked, loving every second of what you were seeing.
“YOU’RE LOOKING FOR A BOYFRIEND, I SEE THAT. GIVE ME TIME, YOU KNOW I’M GONNA louder Karen BE THAT.” The video of Peter played. He was even more into this song than the last. He was jumping around his room in his boxers, screaming the lyrics as loud as he could.
“Please take the mask off.” Peter put his head in his hands and mumbled.
“CAN’T YOU SEE THAT I REALLY WANT IS TO BE YOUR BOYFRIEND Y/N!” Peter sang and your laughter immediately haulted. “YOUR B-B-B-B-B-B-B-BOYFRIEND.”
“That’s enough.” Peter said and this time, you listened. You slowly took the mask off and looked at you your red faced best friend.
“You said my name.” You said, mainly to yourself as you held the mask out to him.
“It’s a part of the song.” Peter lied, taking the mask from your hands.
“Peter, you’re talking to Big Time Rush’s number one fan. I know my name is not in the song.” You said, staring at him intensely, looking for an answer. Peter avoided eye contact with you and toyed with the edges of his mask. You got off Peter’s bed and knelt down beside his desk chair. You were close enough to see the red splotches on his neck from embarrassment.
“Wanna tell me what’s going on?” You put a hand on his knee and rubbed it gently with your thumb.
“I hate your boyfriend.” Peter said after a minute in a soft voice.
“I already knew that.” You looked at him closely. Peter fidgeted in his seat and let out a sigh.
“I wanna be your boyfriend.” Peter said, eyes slowly trailing up to se shout face and gage your reaction. You stopped rubbing his knee and sat in silence for a moment.
“My b-b-b-b-b-b-boyfriend?” You said after a moment. Peter got out of his chair and walked towards the window.
“Don’t.” He deadpanned.
“I didn’t know that.” You said softly as you stood up. Peter turned to you and you could see the redness in his eyes.
“Because I didn’t tell you.” He said weakly.
“Is that why you wanted me to break up with Harry?” You took a step closer and Peter looked away.
“I wanted you to break up with Harry because he’s a villain. That never had anything to do with my feelings for you.” Peter admitted. “I just wanted what was best for you.”
“Oh.” You said simply. “It’s funny, I wanted to break up with him for a different reason.”
“What was your reason?” Peter wondered.
“That I’m in love with my best friend.” You cracked a smile. “And that’s what I told Harry after school today when I dumped him.” You went to Peter and rested your hands on his chest. “I know about what happened in the locker room. I know you stood up for me.”
“You’re in love with me?” He asked hopefully, his hands going to your waist as a tiny smile appeared on his face.
“Yes.” You confirmed. “Even if you lie about seeing birds flying in the shape of the Star of David.”
“I really saw those birds.” He swore.
“I really don’t care.” You put your hands on Peter’s face. “Do you know what else I told Harry?”
“What?” Peter asked, drawing you even closer.
“I’m not into short guys.” You shrugged before pulling him into a kiss. Peter kissed you back, finally feeling at ease. He cupped your face and pulled you impossibly closer.
“I have an idea for our first activity as a couple.” You smiled once you pulled away.
“What’s that?” Peter asked with a coy smile.
“Karen, play One Less Lonely Girl by Justin Bieber.” You ordered.

Flower Child (Peter Parker x ofc)
Chapter 10: Every Batman Needs a Robin... or an Alfred
warnings: mentions of traumatic occurrences, depictions of anxiety, two mad scientists, and very inaccurate science it’s fine
Had Lila not been completely washed over with shock, she may have thought she stared at the mask for far too long. But it wasn’t necessarily her fault, she’d been through the wringer that day: first having to actively compete in the academic decathlon, then almost dying, and finally seeing that Peter Parker, the boy she had more than a small crush on, was Spider-Man. It was a lot for any fifteen-year-old to swallow.
As soon as Lila saw what Peter had pulled out of his backpack, the red mask with white eyes that had saved her life twice now, her mind went on the fritz, and all conscious thought ceased. She barely even heard Peter ask, “Now do you understand?”
A significant span of time must have passed after the initial question, for the look on Peter’s face grew worried. Lila still hadn’t moved, spoken, or blinked after locking eyes with the Spider-Man mask. “Lila?”
Finally, Lila looked back up at Peter. Mouth opening and closing like a fish, she struggled (more than usual) to find the right words. “I…I - and y-you…” She trailed off, suddenly finding the need to sit down. She moved to her desk on wobbly legs and sat in her chair, gaze focusing on the wall behind Peter as she let her first initial thoughts come to her.
Peter Parker is Spider-Man.
Peter Parker fought Captain America.
Peter Parker is a superhero, and you were going to kick him out of your room.
“Lila,” Her attention was back on Peter. A twinge of guilt settled in her stomach at seeing his panicked expression, which was enough to sober her up and begin to rationalize her thoughts. “I need you to say something, p-please.”
“I th-thought you were lousy at keeping secrets,” Lila breathed, eyes darting back to the mask and up to Peter. She ran her fingers through her hair and wiped at her eyes, which still had streaks from her tears. At the look of slight confusion on Peter’s face, Lila breathed out a small laugh.
“What? I can - I can keep secrets-”
“Clearly. E-Exhibit A.” Lila gestured to the Spider-Man mask Peter still held. “I just… you made it so o-obvious with Liz, I r-really never would have guessed-”
“Wait, you know I like Liz?” It was difficult to tell what panicked Peter more, the fact that he revealed his secret identity, or that Lila had known about his crush on Liz. Lila pretended it didn’t hurt for him to admit it.
She stood up, rubbing her hands on her legs. Shrugging, she said, “I d-don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I don’t t-talk a lot? So I just - I just watch people. It’s h-hard to miss the way you l-look at her.” Mostly because I want you to look at me like that. “I just can’t believe I missed th-this.” Holding out a patient hand, Lila looked to Peter.
Reluctantly, Peter handed the mask over to Lila. The texture surprised her, the fluid fabric sifting through her fingers as she adjusted the mask to stare right back at her. Despite her best attempts not to, the crushing weight of the last week hit her again. “S-So, your Stark Internship…”
“Yeah,” Peter agreed. “It’s this.” She didn’t say anything in response, opting to think over what that meant, how much Peter had actually done for her besides picking out a computer for her dad’s shop. It was a vicious cycle of taking things in. Peter seemed to take her silence for something else, for he added, “Lila, please, you can’t - you can’t say anything-”
“So it was you?” Peter grew quiet once again as she looked up to him, eyes shining with unspilled tears. “It was you at - at Delmar’s? Fighting off those bank robbers? It was you today in W-Washington? In the elevator?”
Guilt flashed in Peter’s eyes. “Lila, I swear, I never meant for anyone to get hurt. Delmar’s, it - it was a mistake, and I had no idea the Chitauri core was explosive, I-” Peter was cut off by Lila stepping forward and wrapping her arms tightly around his neck.
She wasn’t much for displaying affection, but being so close to Peter made her feel safe. And now, she knew why. As Peter hesitantly wrapped his arms around her waist, Lila breathed, “Thank you.”
In his hold, Lila felt Peter tense at her words, which confused her. But before she could think too into it, he relaxed, holding her fractionally tighter. There was a slight worry that Peter could feel her heartbeat through her clothes, but her ultimate decision was that she shouldn’t care. She was hugging Peter Parker, the boy who saved her life and despite everything, told her the truth.
“Um,” Peter said, suddenly stepping back from her awkwardly, hand running through his hair. Nerves coursing through her body once again, Lila wondered what she could have done. “Thanks, I guess.”
Disbelieving laughter burst through her lips unwillingly. “You’re - You saved my life, and y-you’re thanking me?”
Peter mirrored her smile, which was a relief, “Yeah.” His hand rest at the back of his neck and Lila wished he would stop being so distracting. “It’s kind of a thankless job, so… to hear it is really nice.”
“You should hear it more often,” Lila said, completely meaning it. Peter sent her a grateful smile. Both of them were still standing, not entirely sure where to go from there. What could happen with the two of them? Would they just go their separate ways from there, Lila carrying Peter’s biggest secret and pretending that nothing had changed?
It occurred to Lila that this might be her chance to change that. She didn’t want to go back to normal. Peter telling her the truth was a leap of faith, and Lila was determined to make it worth it. “Um - is it okay if I ask you something?”
“I mean, it can’t be any worse than Ned. He had so many questions,” Peter admitted, sitting down on her bed once again.
Lila tilted her head to the side, “Wait, Ned knows?” She thought about it for a second, then nodded. “Oh - of course. He - he had the Chitauri core with him today.”
“Yeah,” Peter said, “It was a total accident. He kind of saw me crawling on the ceiling of my bedroom-”
“Wait, on the ceiling?” Lila asked. A childish kind of excitement filled her, and the realization that she was talking to a superhero settled in her mindset. She briefly thought of Sophie, and her list of questions she had for every superhero she hoped to meet one day. Now that she was right in front of one, what were Lila’s? “What else can you do?”
“Um - I can crawl on walls, which is how I got up the monument today,” Lila nodded, sitting down next to Peter, eyes and full attention on him. “I can lift things, really heavy things-”
“Like elevators?”
Peter let out a quiet chuckle. “Yeah, like elevators. There’s also this uh - thing. I call it like a sense of sorts where I can feel things before they happen. Like, if someone tried to throw a punch at me, I would feel it coming before it actually happened.”
That explains why he always seemed to know that I was coming up to talk to him, Lila thought. It seemed so clear now that he was explaining it. Peter wasn’t in need of his glasses anymore, he didn’t struggle as much in gym class, and Lila had thought he’d filled out his sweaters and flannels a little more this year…
“Okay, so - so how did th-this happen?” Lila asked. “You didn’t like, create a t-teleportation device and a house spider slipped in, r-right?”
Peter actually laughed. Her question apparently took him off guard, and he shook his head. His eyes were shining, and he smiled at her. Lila ignored her stomach doing somersaults as he answered her. “No, no. It’s not like that. Actually, do you remember the school trip we took to Oscorp? It was during our mutation unit in biology?”
Lila nodded her head, “It was their cellular ex-experimentation lab, and they had a r-really cool plant display.” She thought back to that day in early January, remembering how she could see New York’s skyline so clearly out of the windows. “Y-You got so sick at the end of it.”
“You remember that?” Peter looked at her curiously.
Nothing out of the ordinary, just pining from afar. Ignoring the blush that rose to her cheeks, Lila hastily pointed a finger at herself. “Wallflower, remember?”
“Um - y-yeah.” Peter shook his head, the memory coming back to him once more. “That was why I was so sick: p-part of their experiments were radioactive testing, and a group of spiders had been exposed. One got out somehow and bit me right here,” He faced the opposite direction from her and ran his fingers along the top of his neck, brushing some of his hair aside.
Lila leaned forward to get a better look at what he was pointing to and placed her fingers over his. Lifting up several loose curls from his neck, she noticed a tiny scar that resembled a bug bite. Rescinding her touch, Lila shivered at the thought of a spider crawling on the back of her neck. She didn’t even see Peter’s shiver in response to the feeling of her fingers on his skin.
“Okay, um - is there anything else you can do? Mentally communicate with spiders, eat b-bugs, inject venom into y-your enemies…?”
“None of the above,” Peter said, still a slight smile on his face as he turned back to face Lila. She could have sworn she thought she heard him mutter thank goodness under his breath.
“So - So now I know, and Ned knows. Does a-anybody else know?”
Peter shrugged, “No. Just you, Ned, and Mr. Stark, but only because he built the suit-”
“Wait, wait, so May doesn’t know?” Lila asked, eyes wide. The idea that he was under no adult supervision (she opted not to count the incredibly busy billionaire) made her nervous. Was he really doing this by himself? “A-At all?”
“If she knew, she would freak out, okay? Like, lose her ever-loving mind.” Peter suddenly stood up, and his nervous posture appeared once again. “Just with everything that happened-” With Ben Parker, he didn’t need to finish, “- no. She cannot know. Lila, nobody can know, okay?”
It was more than a plea, it was more than desperate, and Lila understood. This was life or death, it went past high school, went past homecoming, went past herself. Nodding, she locked eyes with Peter. “I promise. I won’t - I won’t tell anybody.”
There was a tense moment where Peter regarded her doubtfully. Not that she could really blame him, this was a massive secret that needed to be kept, and how was Peter to know she was trustworthy. But she was Lila, and she would do anything for Peter. He must have sensed she would, for he nodded slowly. There wasn’t really much else for Lila to do except hand Peter back the mask she still gripped tightly. Taking it from her with a small thanks, Peter put it back in his backpack.
She didn’t want to seem like a snoop, but Lila couldn’t help herself. She’d gotten a glimpse of the rest of Peter’s backpack as he put the mask away, and saw something she couldn’t ignore. “What’s that?” She asked, pointing to the dark metal bands sitting on top of his suit.
“What, these?” Peter pulled them out, and Lila nodded, standing up and stepping closer to inspect them. Peter handed her one, which she took delicately and inspected. It was lighter than it looked, but knowing that Tony Stark might have had something to do with them, they were probably more high tech than her cellphone. Finding a little button on the top of the band, Lila clicked it, revealing a compartment holding a vial of a white, iridescent substance. Holding it up to the light, Lila looked at it in awe.
“Tony Stark made this?” She asked, eyeing the vial still as it became almost transparent in her bedroom light.
Peter nodded. “Well, he made the web-shooters, but the web fluid, is - is mine.”
Lila found her gaze torn away from the web fluid and back on Peter. “You made this yourself?” It was difficult to keep any awe out of her voice.
“In chemistry,” Peter shrugged like it was no big deal. But the tinge on his cheeks said otherwise. “Just a formula I’ve been working on.”
Deciding it would take too much time to go into specifics like how it went from a fluid to webbing material, or how to get out of it, or even how Peter managed not to tangle himself up in it, Lila asked, “Can I see?” At his confused gaze, Lila clarified, “The f-formula. Can I see it?”
“Oh,” Peter nodded, suddenly reaching into his front pocket. Producing his cellphone, he started flicking through and producing a picture. Handing his phone over to Lila, he stopped at her questioning gaze. “What?”
“You keep content in regards to your s-secret identity on your phone?” Lila asked, taking the cellphone from him. She ignored his stuttering protests and stared at the picture of the formula he’d written on graph paper. Running the calculations through her head, she nodded silently as she studied it. When she’d finished, she hummed, handing the phone back.
“What?” Peter asked again.
“What do you mean, wh-what?” Lila asked.
He narrowed his eyes in suspicion. “You hummed. It’s not wrong, I’ve made it before, it works fine.”
“I believe you,” Lila said lightly, not wanting to cross any lines.
“Well you hummed, you were skeptical-”
“I wasn’t skeptical-”
“If there’s something you think is wrong-”
“It’s a perfectly functional formula, Peter-”
“Lila just tell me.”
“Fine,” Lila said. “It’s fine, the f-formula is fine it’s just - you’re being too conservative with the use of Toluene.” Peter cocked his head in confusion. “If you up the m-methanol by an eighth and Toluene by half, you’ve got the same lightweight structure, just m-more durable.”
Still, with a suspicious look on his face, Peter looked from Lila back to his phone, reading the formula over again. He did the same mental calculation she did, eyes widening in surprise. “You did that all in your head?”
“I’m not as good as y-you are in chemistry,” Lila huffed indignantly, “But I know enough. And - And there were similar formulas to it in the decathlon today, it was still kind of fresh. Do you want to go try it out?”
“What the formula?” Peter asked and Lila nodded. He sighed, “All my stuff’s at school-”
“Well, we can just try it out with some basics at the greenhouse,” Lila stated calmly. The actual idea gave her a huge thrill, to help Peter in some way after all he’d done for her. “Just some experimentation with it, if you want?”
Apparently her offer was too good to pass up. Peter nodded enthusiastically, and Lila took that as her cue to get ready. Shoving her shoes onto her feet, Lila hastily made her way into her bathroom, rummaging through the cabinets for her toner. Checking the ingredients on the back, she hummed in satisfaction, seeing the salicylic acid as one of the ingredients. Lila gripped it tightly and headed back to her bedroom, where Peter watched her as she threw it into her backpack before zipping it up. Guiding him out of her room with a quick wave, the two made their way down the stairs into the kitchen, where Lila made a beeline for the cabinets under the sink. She found the appropriate glass cleaning solution and placed that in her backpack as well.
“Okay, are you ready to go?” Lila asked, taking her house keys out of the bowl perched on a countertop. Peter nodded, and the pair headed for the front door. But they didn’t even cross the living room by the time the front door opened, and Ted Landry walked across the threshold. He clutched a paper bag tightly in his hands, and he started when he saw Peter and Lila looking back at him.
“Oh, Tulip, what’s-” He eyed her backpack and keys in hand, “- Are you going somewhere?”
Lila shifted awkwardly. “Yeah, Peter was - he was going to w-walk me to mom’s greenhouse. If that’s - if that’s okay.”
“Uh… sure.” It came out as more of a question. “Just make sure to close back up-”
“Is that tomato basil?” Lila asked, stomach lurching with hunger. She could practically smell the soup from where she stood.
Her father held up the bag and looked at it as though he forgot he was holding it at all. “Yeah, from Hale and Hearty, just like you asked...” His tone was still confused, and he trailed off as Lila took the bag gratefully from him.
She kissed him on the cheek and guided Peter out the door. “Thank you. Love you!” She shut the front door with the image of Ted standing in the foyer, looking lost in his own home.
                                  *****
“Okay,” Lila said as she threw her backpack onto one of the tables in the break room on the second floor. Taking out the glass cleaner and toner, she set them down next to her backpack and moved on to take the soup out of the paper bag. Fortunately, her dad had gotten her a larger container, and she popped it in the microwave that was exclusively saved for Sophie when she was working long shifts.
“S-So, I have a microscope up in the greenhouse,” She gestured up the stairs to the door of her greenhouse, “And I definitely have some Toluene glue up there from rebuilding some of those garden beds-”
“Why are you helping me?” Peter asked out of the blue. Their walk had been silent for the most part, both just in their heads about this strange situation. Lila was taken off guard from his question, pausing her movements and interrupting her train of thought. Staring at him curiously, she waited until Peter elaborated. “I mean - we just - we’ve only started talking for like a week, and you already know my biggest secret - I… I don’t get it. You could l-live your whole life just moving on from this whole thing, why are you getting tangled up in this?”
Because I’ve had the biggest crush on you since eighth grade?
Lila tucked her hair behind her ear and felt nerves dance in her stomach. “Um - I just - you s-single-handedly saved my life twice, and I-”
“But I’m not expecting a thank-you, Lila. I wasn’t going to let you die, I just-”
“No, no, I get that, it’s…” She sighed heavily. “You don’t have a multi-billion dollar company behind you or experience in a world war, or e-even seven Ph.D.’s behind you. You’re just you - s-saving New York by yourself.”
“It’s really just Queens,” Peter mumbled, and Lila smiled in adoration.
She shook her head, “You c-can try downplaying your i-incredible selflessness, b-but it doesn’t change the fact that you’ve been doing this alone. I just don’t - I don’t want you to have to do this alone anymore. E-Even if I don’t have seven Ph.D.’s… yet.” She offered a small smile, and Peter returned it. The unspoken agreement that Lila was on board with helping Peter with Spider-Man hung between them, and the pair bonded despite the unconventional circumstances. “Plus, every Batman needs a Robin… o-or maybe an Alfred. I’d make a pretty good Alfred, I think.”
Suddenly the microwave sounded. Lila smiled wider, stomach still screaming at her. “So, tomato basil?”

"Get to a point where thoughts are like thieves coming in an empty house...there's nothing to take" - Sam Harris
UPDATE
Phone died Thursday. Will be back Mon or Thu. AC too arid, had to open windows. Off days I’m going to carb cycle the dumb keto, between carbs and aminos one day, and bacon the next, making sure the carbs+aminos are the day before going back as a zero-fat cleanse day, maybe a wheatgrass smoothie, prolly not. Ice pack on my eyes, excellent idea.
About to post this, @225lbs, that’s at least 10lbs down in 1 week, cardio has been uphill 5min, flat 5min, but go easy on yourself, 1min/1min, I was made for hiking 1hr at a time, know your ability. Also that’s from 10 days of (30min cardio, long sessions, +30min cardio again) and I’m taking a week off right now. Eating natural antihistamines and resetting. Resuming Thursday, but’ll post Sunday something rando.
NOTES/TIPS
Supermarket parking lot, a black guy the size of a Chicago bear, he’s having a conversation with his wife and cart-bound toddler, and every few words he says ‘hey a white guy’ like 3-4 times, like I’m in the wild --- it still snows, the sun also sets --- some recover easily from high volume, to work quick between melts, or hike before snow -- lineages differ, if forced to do low rep PRs every day, the stress and the hypertrophy would tear at my tendons;
Not a decathlon, maintenance, it depends on how you do conditioning >> if you’re in a cut, carbs have to be maintenance and very regular, like feeding a dog, same times every day, if you’re in a bulk the training sessions have to be scheduled too >> Dave Palumbo video just said as much in saying carbs and insulin >> glucose control > need water that dry/shred people, low af BMI ppl, just might not have at the moment or can’t carb up the day of the show.
Get bitchy after a workout, the human body is designed to digest carbs from plants, grains, some water-dissolvable fibers, etc, so that we can eat small doses and metabolize efficiently, and that’s a modern truth, even if you’re binging white sugar, and when blood-sugar drops the body goes into hypoglycemia (hypo = low, hyper = high), even if you’re big, even if you’re exercising, a lifestyle pattern, meal patterns, exercise patterns, or you get bitchy, and that’s a good thing. Pain is informative. Emotion is natural. The evolutionary response; and then apathy/lethargy takes exercise out of the equation. My rice cooker has an egg basket, steam makes peeling easy, I hate rice and eggs, but the rice is low fat during scheduled carb intakes, and one eggwhite makes a healthy appetizer, and egg yolk has essential nutrients.
The body doesn’t want to be 0%BMI, and when you’re training, it doesn’t want to reduce BMI. So there’s trapped on an island ketosis, which will bring on literal insanity, or delicate CICO adjustment, and being full (satiated) but digesting the fiber before a workout to not be literally bloated, and digesting the fat before a workout so that you don’t figuratively need an oil change. A lot of instagram posts say eat fruit before a workout, but that might be their between full meals snack, and usually don’t have heavy fruits like mangoes or bananas, but more light fruits like oranges and strawberries, before a workout. And the level of acidity before a workout is also personal.
Hypertrophy is growth of muscle, hypoplasia is new muscle at the cellular level. Quitting a steady exercise lifestyle, will see dramatic muscle loss, this could be why DOMS doesn’t occur with experience, and taking vacation will hurt the first day back at the gym, because the nervous system resets and the connections have to be rebuilt for task/work, so things like cardio, yoga, taiji, etc active recovery should actually be an active lifestyle, and then empty calories add-up when less muscle and less active.
I’m going to eat more antihistamines my eyes and nose are itchy, UPDATE honey-infused vinaigrette, tomatoes, and spinach help, ancestors didn’t eat as many eggs as me, and would like more grits.

Day 0:
There is a whole lot of planning and thought that goes into a bike trip! For weeks we had been plotting and planning a route, assembling camping gear, bike repair kit, cooking implements, and figuring how to strap it all to the back of 2 bikes. We practised packing everything in our saddle bags and meant to do some rides with it but in all honesty never found the time. We fit in as many spin classes at the gym as possible to get our fitness up, but were already pretty well accustomed to cycling. Now compound all of these considerations with having to wrap up jobs, sell off most of our stuff and move out. Let me just say that it was sufficiently stressful.
On Sunday we managed to get most of our stuff into that van along with the two bikes, deep clean the house and leave courtown, my home for the past 2 years, not to mention leaving the precious little creatures I had been working hard to protect. On Monday we had 24 hours to tie up all the loose ends prior to embarking on our 3-week adventure. We decided to divide and conquer. Mike went out in the car to run various errands that had stacked up and I organized our stuff, packed it away in the attic. It was a jam packed day of prep!
Tumblr media
Here's the plan! Fly from Dublin to Turin, Italy, cycle along the Po River until we reach the sea, cycle down the East coast to Ancona, take the Ferry across the sea to Split, Croatia and then island hop down to Dubrovnik where we fly back.
One of the biggest considerations was getting bicycles on an airplane. It wasn't too pricey, even with Ryanair, running us €60. There was a weight limit but no size limit, and no designated container needed, so we went to Decathlon (a sporting store) and asked if they had an empty cardboard boxes from recent bike shipments. It's a pretty good bet that they always will. We broke the bikes down as needed to fit, removing the pedals and front wheels. My bike is so old that the pedals refused to budge when I tested this weeks earlier, so I had to find another solution (and invest in more heavy tools to tote around) by removing the entire pedal shaft from one side of the crank. Side note, my seat is also rusted into position so removing that was also out of the question, but thankfully it fit with it on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sustainable tip: We upcycled strips of old t-shirts to  wrap up the sharp bits on the bike so they wouldn't poke holes in the boxes en route!
Finally the big day had arrived! Mike's mum kindly offered to drive us to the airport, bike boxes, tape and disassembled bikes in tow. Dublin airport seems to always have some shenanigans for us when travelling and it did not disappoint this time. The drop-off area was diverted to an area much further away for unforeseen reasons, meaning we had a much longer gauntlet to run with what promised to be extremely large and bulky boxes. We jumped out of the van and got to work. Passersby marveled as we practisedly built and loaded our boxes, sealing them with reams of tape. The end result was two incredibly wide, flat boxes loaded onto a dwarfed trolley.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The staff really didn't know what to make of this, muttering that we were seemingly packing a baby grand piano as we lifted on and off the trolley, awkwardly up escalators and through doors that were not built for purpose. After an unnecessary trip down an elevator to a non-functioning oversize baggage counter, we got to right one to endure further discussion about the size as a man punched through mike's box to investigate since it wouldn't fit in the scanner! Finally we got the biggest boxes in the works through and on their way. We even got to see them struggle one more time with our request as we caught a glimpse of them loading them into the hole as we boarded the plane. But at last we were on our way!

Decathlon augments logistics, online expertise with bike start-up investment
Tumblr media
Decathlon France has invested in an online bicycle start-up which it hopes will give it an edge in accelerating its online development.
The company has acquired shares in Alltricks, a start-up which sells bicycle equipment in six countries: the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Portugal.
Decathlon’s goal is to tap into Alltricks’ expertise in breadth of supply, delivery times, marketplaces, logistics and customer experience. The acquisition will allow both parties to expand their omnichannel offering, including through Decathlon’s physical store network.
Alltricks offers low prices through placing large bulk orders with suppliers, offering free delivery on orders over €49 from its warehouse in Châteaudun. The company realised 65 million in turnover in 2018. It offers 700,000 items from over 500 brands.
Arnaud Gauquelin, head of Decathlon in France, said: "Our first goal has always been to satisfy athletes of all levels . And among them, cyclists and runners because we share with them this passion for cycling and running. Our desire to stick to their expectations is so strong that it pushes us today to evolve again, to transform ourselves to meet all their desires, all their needs.”
Gary Anssens, CEO of Alltricks, said: "Our anchorage in cycling is historic and we were looking for a committed and passionate partner who looks like us to complete our offer and allow us to better serve our customers and practitioners wherever they are.”
Earlier this month, Decathlon introduced its new sports activity and advice platform, PLAY. The platform shares information on every sport, as well as connecting external gyms, studios and sport classes to their large UK-wide database of active sports people.

Get on Zwift for under £99
Tumblr media
I get asked a lot about the cheapest way to get on Zwift (or other cycling apps) so I have gathered some very cheap kit together to see If it works. The minimum you will need is a Bluetooth/ANT+ cadence and speed bike sensor, ANT+ USB dongle, USB Cable and a laptop (or phone or tablet).
The cheapest set up I could buy was:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bluetooth and ANT+ Bike Monitor
Tumblr media
Turbo Trainer with wheel riser and skewer
Tumblr media
ANT+ USB Dongle for PC
Tumblr media
Male to Female USB Extension Cable
You will probably need a training skewer to replace the one that came with your bike to ensure a good fit into the turbo and prevent your quick release skewer on your bike being damaged by the turbo fittings. The skewer fits in to your rear wheel hub. You will also need a riser which puts your front wheel at the same height as the back wheel because the turbo will lift your rear wheel. I got one free with my turbo, but you can buy them quite cheaply or use an old phone book if you can find one these days.
This set up will work happily with Zwift but without any power feedback so you will need to select gears appropriate to the profile (the % of the climb is shown on the top right of your screen). For example, if you are going up hill on say a 5% gradient then select a bigger gear to make the gradient harder. I also capture my heart rate but just use the heart rate monitor that came with my Garmin Fenix 3 watch. You can use any ANT+ heart rate monitor. CooSpo do a Bluetooth and ANT+ combined heart rate monitor for just £23.99 and this is the one I use to take my HRV score in the morning.
An alternative is to use a PowerTap PowerCal heart rate monitor (costs around £65 for the ANT+ and Bluetooth version) which will provide estimated power and heart rate so you can use it to move your bike in Zwift. This means the minimum set up is a phone running Zwift, PowerCal and any static bike like a spin bike or exercise bike in a gym. This is ideal if you are travelling and want a Zwift fix. Currently you need an iPhone for this, but the Android App is coming soon and is in Beta on certain phones right now. The power output is not very accurate so as a power meter not great but to get Zwifting very useful. As another bonus you can use it when you are rowing to row on Zwift and make this a bit more fun!
There is a companion App for Zwift which has been release for Android which works with Zwift on your PC which can control your ride, enable you to give ride-ons, activate power-ups and act as a Bluetooth bridge for Bluetooth sensors.
The Zwift Companion app turns your mobile device into a remote control for Zwift and makes Zwifting more fun and social. When used alongside Zwift, the Companion app gives you a map view and the ability to chat, make U-turns, and interact with others. It’s also an event calendar for what’s on deck, making it a useful on-the-go tool to plan your next race, ride, or run.

Zwift Running on a Phone
You also need to remember you will sweat so need water, a towel and fan!
Tumblr media
You may also want to protect your floor so you can use some old carpet, a basic yoga mat, some floor foam tiles from Decathlon or buy a specific indoor trainer mat but they can be quite expensive.
If you are on a really tight budget, you can get training online using a new App called VirtuGo. It’s free at the moment in Beta form and very similar to Zwift as it is a virtual cycling world. I have used my budget set up with VirtuGo but note that it needs power as well, so I had to used the PowerCal HRM as well to give it this data.
After you have this basic set up then if you like riding on Zwift or another bike app you can start to upgrade parts – I would put money in to a smart trainer which adjust the pressure on your tyre on up hills automatically and makes for a more realistic and provide a harder ride.
My Experience with the Budget setup
I’ve ridden on my new basic set up for under £99 with Zwift and I must say I am impressed. Different type of workout than on my Elite Smart Trainer but I got out of breath, my cadence was higher and met my training goals. Indoor training has really improved with the emergence of riding and running apps and if you take advantage of the group rides, training plans and online “tours” I am sure you will meet your race goals.
