Dare to Go Pink
Soft, demure, and powerfully coy, a blushing shade of pink can bring glamour and panache to a room. The hue’s natural disposition of charm and romance is influencing its way right into the fashion lineups of Fall and Winter 2018.
I’m talking about sophistication here; nothing childish. We’ve seen the light and elegant rendition on this year’s biggest runways and it’s most certainly making a statement in the interior design world from furniture to objets d’art.

As designers, we love the elegant touch light pink can bring to our clients’ interiors. The key to a successful pink ensemble lies within its pairing and distribution.
The Gallery: Sketch London - Image via Regina Sturrock
A dynamic all-pink scheme by India Mahdavi, for Sketch, London is exemplary of how this colour may be worked in classic high style. After all, this is a place where patrons enjoy high tea. The designer conceived The Gallery as a striking and avant-garde environment that is equally soothing in its monochromatic arrangement. Walls, ceilings, and Deco-inspired furnishings present in a soft pink wrap of various textures and sheens from velvet to rose gold. The one-colour envelope also invites playful contrast and eclecticism with a Missoni-like marble floor. Delightful, elegant and pink.
A special room in one of our recent projects will be shining in pink. This one is a classic in its soft and feminine appeal, curving line, and bespoke detail. The effect is serene because the room will be grounded with soft neutrals and tactile elements giving plenty of breathing space for brilliant pink accents. Sweet rosy facets in lighting, the palest version of the hue in draperies and an exotic display of blush Chinoiserie on the bed wall offer a well-balanced pink scene.
Design concept by Regina Sturrock Design Inc.
Passion and purity are the essence of pink; a powerful colour that is composed of red and white. A touch of it can go a long way and make an elegant statement.
Will you dare to go pink?

Debra Folz
Debra Folz is an interior designer that has found her stride with her furniture designs. Her recent pieces have earned her collaborations with big names like Tommy Hilfiger, Neiman Marcus and Helmut Lang. Folz often uses what she considers "traditional craft" in a modern way. Her most recent Pleat Collection (in the last three photos) has found resonance in the fashion industry and was presented in the International Contemporary Furniture Fair.
Folz says in reference to the Pleat Collection “Inspired by the pairing of structured geometries with the softer materiality, of textiles, these furniture forms were designed specifically to support each textile pattern and celebrate their unique compositions.”
I love that these pieces are not only intricately designed and pleasing to the eye but are purchasable on her at www.debrafolz.com.

SPOTTED: BEYOND THE CROWDS AT WANTED DESIGN
Friday night's opening gala at Wanted Design (11th ave @ 28th St) was a swarm of activity, bodies and new design. The beau and I arrived shortly after the opening time and were faced with a mass of folks who intended to get inside as quickly as possible (either to get out of the cool temperatures or closer to the open bar, or both). The showcase was impressive, and featured a nice array of designers presenting everything from bathroom fixtures to re-purposed furniture, denim jean tailoring, jewelry, and more. My favorite items from the evening were furniture/interior pieces (typical) and moved me for various reasons.
One new wallpaper pattern from Jill Malek, Voyageur, is a representation of flight patterns across the US. Stunning in its busy-ness, the yellow-gold hue lends a fun, mod personality to it, which I think could work really well in a variety of interiors, especially a child's room or workspace. www.jillmalek.com
I was moved by the simplicity and forms of the Secto design pendants, which are handmade in Finland. Simple and natural in their state, these birch lights immediately reminded me of hoop skirts and french panniers. I find the form appealing, and think this style would work wonderful in over a long dining table in a farm kitchen. www.sectodesign.fi
Debra Folz, who hails from Boston, introduced items from her Pleat collection, including stools and chairs. According to her video, she intended to create structures that celebrate the fabrics upon them. She mentioned that the fabrics are polyester, are pleated in Paris, and treated to be stain resistant which I think would need to be a necessity for anyone in this day and age. www.debrafolz.com
