Writing Tip: Character's DEATH
If you want your reader to be REALLY upset about the main character's death or an important character's death, do it unexpectedly and in the middle of their character arc. Prolong the update after the "death chapter". Do not leave an author's note after the said death. Make them grieve for a long period of time. Make the readers fall in love with their actions and thoughts. After that, kill them. (If convenient [mwahahaha] and necessary) For the funeral, make it really shitty if the other characters could never really care less about the said person's death but craft the funeral flawlessly if the person who died was loved, adored, and cherished by surrounding characters. MAKE IT SHORT FOR BOTH VERSIONS, THOUGH so that the readers will crave for more details. Kill them while they're doing/about to do the main thing that they are passionate about. (What they are passionate about since the first chapter of the story) In short, do it in the middle of their character development or arc, while they're showing their weakness, and while the story can still be felt as light-hearted.
