Well the first thing to do is to let go of the past. You made your mistakes but you can’t focus on that right now. Live presently instead of what happened last year.

Next is be the kind of person that is asking questions. People like it when someone can hold a conversation especially when it feels organic and natural. That’s how I got my old job as a manager. The store owner asked me to get coffee at a place that was near the store and we had my interview there. We hit it off great and he said I would be a great addition to the team. We talked, I asked a lot of questions about how I could be a good asset to the team and that really helped me out in the end. But speaking of support.

There’s this interview with Natalie Dormer that I really enjoy where she talks about being an actor you go into the audition like you are the solution. The people casting have a problem and it’s to find a person to play this certain role. You, as the actor, have to be the solution to that problem. You want to be the piece that fits that puzzle perfectly. This is something that will help you out in the long run. Be adaptable, be willing to help out and support others.

Finally is to stay in contact with the people you meet with. Networking is a good skill to have and if one place doesn’t work out then there’s always another. Try to have good communication with all the people you talk to/interview with because it establishes a rapport and it gives you a bit of an edge.

Mythconception Ask Game: Maybe the birth of Athena? I've wondered how Zeus got around the prophecy, for instance, and it seems weird overall.

Okay so Athena’s birth is something really interesting. 

Athena was born shortly after the prophecy was given, which everyone knows, what I see commonly said about her though is that she is the prophecy child, and this is not the case.

There are two parts listing the Prophecy

Hesiod, Theogony 886 ff (trans. Evelyn-White) (Greek epic C8th or 7th B.C.) : "Now Zeus, king of the gods, made Metis (Wise Counsel) his wife first, and she was wisest among gods and mortal men. But when she was about to bring forth the goddess bright-eyed Athene, Zeus craftily deceived her with cunning words and put her in his own belly, as Gaia (Earth) and starry Ouranos (Heaven) advised. For they advised him so, to the end that no other should hold royal sway over the eternal gods in place of Zeus; for very wise children were destined to be born of her, first the maiden bright-eyed Tritogeneia, equal to her father in strength and in wise understanding; but afterwards she was to bear a son of overbearing spirit, king of gods and men. But Zeus put her into his own belly first, that the goddess might devise for him both good and evil."

Pseudo-Apollodorus, Bibliotheca 1. 20 : When she was pregnant, Zeus took the precaution of swallowing her, because she had said that, after giving birth to the daughter presently in her womb, she would bear a son who would gain the lordship of the sky.

The child fated to be born was to be the one after Athena, not Athena herself. This is specifically stated in the prophecy.

Now, there are two possibilities for how he “got around the prophecy”.

1. By swallowing Metis (and some myths state that he absorbed her) she is no longer able to have a child, ergo there is no possibility of another child after Athena, and thus there is no prophecy child there.

2. Apollo is the next boy child born after Athena (Aphrodite is born next (depending on the myth) and then Artemis and Apollo) and ergo is the child of the prophecy. Many consider him to be Zeus’ heir, as he is the dearest child of Zeus and the Greeks considered him to be one of the most important Gods (alongside Zeus himself).

Callimachus, Hymn 4 to Delos 51 ff : And thou didst not tremble before the anger of Hera, who murmured terrible against all child-bearing women that bare children to Zeus, but especially against Leto, for that she only was to bear to Zeus a son dearer even than Ares.

It’s also notable that Apollo holds the epithet Loxias, which means the interpreter or prophet of Zeus. And he is one of the few (Zeus being one) who can see the Fates of others.

All these factors combine such that Apollo is viewed as the heir of Zeus by many, and as such is the one the prophecy would speak of, and Zeus has willingly declared it such (ensuring that the prophecy is turned in his favor, as Apollo is loyal to Zeus and Zeus favors him).

Many millennia ago, on the eve that Kronos struck his father Ouranos, slicing him into pieces scattered across the lands, was the day Aphrodite came to be. Birthed from the castrated genital of Father Sky, cast upon into the oceans, she rose from the sea foam as an embodiment of love and beauty. The sea brought her to the land of Cyprus, flowers grew beneath her feat as she walked along the island coast with her twin sons Eros and Himeros, whom she came to be bearing.

When the Goddess entered Olympus to face the assembly of the gods, they were all stuck by admiration and love for her, her beauty instigating desire to have her for themselves. Zeus afraid that war would break out among the gods decided to marry her to his son Hephaestus, despite the fact that her affections lay elsewhere. Through the course of their marriage Aphrodite both loved and resisted her husband, for he embodied the constrains put on her.

For the Goddess was never meant to belong to any one person. Of all her lovers, her dearest was always Ares for he understood her in a way no one else ever could. Her children Deimos, Phobos, Harmonia, Adrestia, and Anteros were a product of their love. Other divine lovers of the Goddess include, Poseidon with whom she had Rhode, and Herophilos. And Dionysus with whom she had Priapus and Iakkhos. As well as Hermes with whom she had Hermaphroditus and Tyche. Of her mortals lovers, the two most notable are Adonis with whom she bore Beroe, Anchises with whom she had Ankhises. As well as her son Astynoos by Phaethon, and her son Eryx by Boutes.

Over the course of the centuries as the Greek Deities were forgotten of, nothing was a more permanent fixation across the world than the raw and vital emotion she holds domain over, love. For a period of time when monotheism and realism spread throughout the world, there were fewer people who looked to her for guidance when embarking on new beginnings, or in spite when those beginnings were long behind them and their hearts turned. She spent centuries in self indulgence, and the new found freedom that came with being forgotten, though it was not without some sorrow at times. Surprisingly now in the modern world there are now many who look to the Goddess for inspiration, the romantics, the feminists, and those suffering in love most of all among others and it’s made her long for things as they used to be once again. It is due to this new generation of devotees that Aphrodite is among the first to feel astray, and so she was among the first to answer the call of the new Oracle.
