they DO play football at the Olympics but absolutely nobody who's into football cares about the Olympics because the Euros / Copa America are on a few weeks earlier and those are way more prestigious + star football players usually don't go to the Olympics bc their home clubs won't allow it. It's U21 kids + a couple veterans. however. I think. as a parallel to his F1 career. Footballer AU Carlos (whose AU career I've lowkey discussed a few times with @toxicrivalries) would actually be the kind of senior player who'd be at the Olympics. He has some prestige and, crucially, his club can spare him.

anyway yeah Charles could be a cute Olympics wag. MORE IMPORTANTLY he'd be an amazing Spain nt @ the 2024 Euros wag. Especially the bit where they beat England in the final and iirc both George and Lando were there rooting for England.

'Present Laughter starring Andrew Scott and Indira Varma will return to the big screen in July with National Theatre Live.

Filmed live from its sold-out run at London’s Old Vic in 2019, Scott and Varma’s Olivier award-winning performances will be available to watch from cinemas worldwide from July 18.

Directed by Matthew Warchus, the production also features Sophie Thompson and follows the identity crisis of a star actor, played by Scott, preparing to embark on an overseas tour.

Caroline Maddison, deputy director of digital products at the National Theatre, said: “Present Laughter is a fan favourite for National Theatre Live audiences and a brilliant addition to the NT Live programme this year, following our successful releases of Dear England, Vanya, The Motive and the Cue and Nye.

"We’re thrilled to rerelease this incredible production from the Old Vic to cinemas this summer and make it accessible to ever-wider audiences.”

Dear England: I am pretty sure there are NT Live screenings at some cinemas around the place if you did wanna catch it! And apparently it’s coming back for another run at the NT next spring though with a new cast. The OG actors as kane and southgate were amazing though (in fact generally the cast was the one thing my miserable whingeing arse couldn’t knock about it). Unprocessed thoughts from last year:

I have to say reading your review I very much appreciate it because that sounds a little less like what I was hoping it would. Very mealy mouthed pat your back NIMBYism is what it strikes me as - shame, because SOUTHGATE! the musical could otherwise have been told so wonderfully.

Great point, I’ll see if I can snap it off Live otherwise I would still be tempted to see it if I can grab a cheap ticket.

Sorry if my English is bad, I don’t think I would put much stake into the English girl in the Netherlands game. Not much concrete evidence that she’s with Gakpo, just things that can potentially point to Cody cheating if paired with evidence that more clearly points to cheating. It could very easily just be an English person that doesn’t want to support England, I think I read a statistic showing that Liverpool supports care more about Liverpool than the English national team. She just may have wanted to follow the team through the euros and Netherlands has a good team with multiple of our players on, as well as VVD being captain. I know a few Americans are following the Netherlands for that reason and if (when😭)my dear italia gets knocked out I think I will support the Netherlands for that reason. Or maybe someone in her past turned her twored the Durch, maybe a Durch relative or close friend. The bracelet can also be for either someone else or she is just fond of Gakpo. Not 100% garnered that he is not cheating, but not very good proof either

Your english is fine dw, its not my 1st language either! Im not buying it tbh but it just seems so random cause why target gakpo out of all the players😭 why not Van Dijk or Aké? I hope this doesn’t open pandora’s box for Cody. Her not wanting to support england makes sense but why support the dutch squad of all the nts? Why not france or portugal for example. You raise a good a point though cause if shes a Liverpool fan that makes it easier to support her favs and their country.

ジェームズ・グレアムの新作。2016年、失言で職を追われたサム・アラダイスの後釜としてサッカーイングランド男子代表監督となったガレス・サウスゲートとスポーツ心理学者ピッパ・グランジの試みを中心におき、2018年ロシアW杯から2022年カタールW杯まで若い選手たちとともに歩んだ道を辿りながら、サッカーのイングランド代表が体現するものについて考察する。サウスゲートを演じるのは舞台は久しぶりのジョセフ・ファインズ、グランジにジーナ・マッキー、演出はルパート・グールド、美術エズ・デブリン、照明ジョン・クラーク、音響ダン・バルフォアとトム・ギボンズという豪華な布陣。

舞台上に大きな光輪を配し、ここに選手名や試合の経過などのテキストが流れる。これが見やすかったのがよかった。背面にもテキストや過去の代表関係の映像が投影される。舞台上の道具は裏にユニフォームがかかったロッカー程度��、これらは選手役の俳優たちが動かす。全体的に暗めの舞台にピンスポ中心、ポイントでテキストと映像、大道具なしという演出は、概念としてのイングランド代表、ひいては「イングリッシュネス」を模索する試みであり、決してリアリズムの芝居ではないことを常に意識させられる。グレアムの作品ではどちらかというと同じくグールドと組んだ『INK』に近いかもしれない。コレオ（エレン・ケインとハネス・ランゴルフ）でトレーニングや試合、一般市民の反応を描いているのもまたリアリティとコンセプトの間をうまく繋いでいる。

冒頭は1996年ユーロ決勝で延長の後のPK、選手としてのサウスゲートが外してしまうところから始まり、3つの国際大会を描き最後は2022年カタールW杯の準々決勝、フランス戦で後半のファール後のPKをハリー・ケイン（ウィル・クロース）が外してしまうところで終わる。FAやFIFAとの攻防やガリー・リネカー（Gunnar Cauthery、彼はスヴェン・ゴラン・エリクソンやウェイン・ルーニー、ボリス・ジョンソンまで兼ねる多忙さ）をはじめとするOBの解説者、自らのマネージングチーム、なにより一般ファンからの懐疑と不信と期待を受けつつもある一定の自己肯定に至るまで（2022年のカタール大会敗戦後は確かに独特の清々しさがあった記憶がある）を、詳細なリサーチによって明快なストーリーに練り上げる手腕は相変わらず唸らされる。それぞれの大会のチームメンバーや状況を覚えていると、情報や登場する選手の取捨選択がとても興味深い。劇中、当然のごとく「なぜイングランドは延長後のPKに弱いか」というテーマが持ち出され、グランジが過去のフテージを見ながら外した選手のボディランゲージを解読するというシーンがある。それはある意味、サッカーの母国を自認しつつも代表としての結果を出せない男子代表が毎回晒される過剰な期待と圧力を映し出しており、その背景にあるもののひとつとして理由のないプライドと例外主義が仄めかされている。その硬直した空気を改善するのが部外者であるグランジの目であったり、2022年女��ユーロでの女子チーム優勝からの刺激であるという描写がされているのもよい。
