My friend took me to see them in October 2022 with BRKN LOVE and I got to meet both bands. The singer seemed very kind. I got a photo with him but I looked at him and told him he was so short next to me so I stood lower and he laughed and pulled me up to strand straight 😂

I really love .SALT. and .CoDA. the most but god they’ve got some great new songs like HURT

There is something so lonely about having found family as your favorite\comfort trope. Like absolutely, I love that these characters found each other and that they are happy in their group. But there is also that lonely child deep in my soul that wishes that it was me. The piece of me that yearns for what they have, for a family outside of blood that loves you unconditionally and you can get up to shenanigans with. Every time I read about it as a kid, I was so jealous, because as much as you can read about it, you can never live it. You can never take the place of these characters that have a group of people that they can depend on and that love them. That was something I always wanted. Still, there is something so lonely and childish about longing to be apart of something like that. I spent my childhood years consuming media with the 'found family' to fill that lonely void within me.

Now here I am, all these years later, still consuming media with 'found family' to appease that lonely little girl inside of me who told herself stories just to fall asleep at night.

you might not know this song so allow me to explain...

"i was meant for the stage / i was meant for the curtain / i was meant to tread these boards / of this much i am certain"

you can't tell me that's not how he felt about acting. neil definitely thought he was destined to be an actor, especially once he actually got on stage. already this song is perfect for him. but wait IT GETS BETTER

skip a couple lines and we get to THIS:

"mother, please be proud / father, be forgiving / ever though you told me, 'son, you'll never make a living' "

when neil says "i was good, i was really good," i've always interpreted that to be him reaching for some form of validation or recognition from his mother (among other things which are not the point of this post), since his father wasn't giving it to him. he knows he was good, and he wishes someone in his family would recognize that.

the last monologue in midsummer (if we shadows have offended...) is shot in such a way that we see neil giving it directly to mr. perry as a final plea for forgiveness. the line "gentles, do not reprehend: / if you pardon, we will mend" is a particular standout. mr. perry also pretty much says acting is not a worthwhile pursuit, and neil should give it up and become a doctor (a real career).

i would argue that the last time neil truly felt alive was on stage. in that way, he resides in the theater, and really, was there any doubt that he would be spectacular?

mr. perry wasn't impacted at all by neil's performance. he goes right back to treating neil terribly, as he always has. but that doesn't change the fact that neil was really good.

charlie dalton would thrive in the band kid environment!! if he was in marching band he would bring all the hype in the stands and on bus rides, and his energy would be so contagious

during band camp over the summer he would would wear crop tops and soccer mom sunglasses (and would be surprisingly welcoming towards freshman/rookies who are scared out of their minds and be such a go with the flow kinda guy in stressful situations and it would definitely help other kids calm down and have more fun. like older brother vibes)

even though the band director is annoyed by him most of the time, they would recognize how much devotion he has to his friends so he'd get saxophone section leader and lose everyone's drill charts at least twice and the librarians would hate him (affectionate) <3

in concert band tho he would get all the sax solos just cause he sounds beautiful on that thing

the poets would all go to his concerts/marching band comps (bc I love the poets supporting each other in all their passions even if they don't know anything about it) they would also be the people who cheer after the first movement cause they dont know + got excited for charlie (especially neil)

and he would absolutely ✨️slay✨️ in concert black is all I'm saying
