Cute. It’s not a word she’s heard in a long time, but never mind that. If she thought too much into it, she’d just get annoyed and upset. She brushes it off like water off a duck’s back. 

“Pants…” She lowers her gaze to look at his pants. They don’t look at all comfortable, but it is something she’s been thinking about. Pants would be a great item of clothing to wear when training after all. “I wouldn’t mind giving it a try.” Hm, something feels odd. Back home whenever they went clothes shopping for a new hanbok, she did so with her father. He allowed her to pick whatever she wanted to try on and purchase. 

….

“Thank you for shopping with me.” She says, mainly out of respect. He did go out of his way to take her here. 

“ Hehe. Then maybe these? They’re darker but the fabric seems pretty alright! “ he says showing a pair of plum coloured one’s with a single flower button on the pockets, not unlike jeans but the fabric was softer. 

“ You could pair with a different shade of hoodie or shirt and varsity coat or cardigan - I’ll show you those in a bit.  “

Old habits from working in clothing apparels and just regular stores return kind of come to mind. Eiden does like picking clothes. 

“ Anytime hehe! I like to pick clothes anyway! “

" You sure? "

" I mean I can no problem --- let's take these and theeeen.... One varsity coat and.... "

Grabbing a black and white varsity coat Eiden then continues to winter coats and grabs his pick. A hat, earmuffs, pair of gloves... Each and everything easy to combine, practically running around the store before showing everything to Dam-Bi.

“ Just in time for winter sales! I’m sososo sorry, I took wayyyyy too long with this.”

“ The whole Halloween deal happened and I’ve been super busy... That’s no excuse though. So I will definitely pay for everything! “

The thrift store he’d picked had a great wide variety of everything. When he remembered his promise he’d been pretty darn frantic, worried sick even and took no time in contacting the little girl. Frankly speaking he’s a little ashamed even. What sort of adult is he if he can’t fulfill important promises like this? 

“ Has everything been alright? Let’s get you real nice clothes ok? And a cute, thick winter coat, gloves, scarf --- all that’s necessary for the weather. “

Dam-bi nods. That sounded like a good plan. Continue to look through the selection of clothing that was out there that’d be similar to what she was used to. Though looking around, she wasn’t exactly sure where to begin. She does grab the dress she had been eyeing and drapes it over her arm, but otherwise, she’s finding herself a little bit overwhelmed WITH the option.

“This one is closest so far.” She says, lifting her arm with the dress over it up for him to look. “I would like to expand on…these new clothes.” Especially if she was going to be training how to fight physically, it seemed like a good idea to get used to other ATTIRES. 

“ Bet it will look real cute too! “

It’s a pretty one with delicate layering, definitely a good pick. It must be difficult, looking at all the variety of different stuff you’re not familiar with but a start is a start. 

“ Hmm. Then would like to try some pants? The one’s I’m wearing remember? I’ll tell you about the options and you can pick according that information.  And then we’ll do it with the rest of the pieces too! I’ll help with some co-ordination too. How does that sound? “

She lowers her gaze to her Hanbok. One can tell it’s been stitched and restitched. “I am.” She admits, “but it wouldn’t break me if I were to lose it.” A hand smooths over the silk fabric of her Hanbok, 

“but it is all I know. I see everyone here wearing strange clothing. I don’t know…I wouldn’t be used to something like that.” 

“ Oh yeah, of course you wouldn’t be. “

She was from totally different time after all. So maybe just getting sort of similar clothes could do it. Like flat collars... He wonders they could find some kind of wrap-around winter coat from here.  Maybe just similar colour palette. It won’t be the same of course but if there’s at least one familiar-..ish element... 

“ Then how about we just keep looking for sort of similar things? And if we can’t then just pick things that are simple and easy to wear. And  don’t feel uncomfortable. “

She’ll spare Eiden one last glance before they’re both moving on. Staying on this topic will only be complicated for one of them. 

At Eiden’s question, Dam-bi turns her attention back on a dress that she had actually been eye-ing. “It’s similar to my hanbok.” For now this would be the closest she’d be comfortable with wearing at least. 

“ Hmm! It looks pretty cute to me! Let’s see.. “

The tones of pink are pretty, for sure. Eiden checks the labels, S should be fine huh. 

“ Are you fond of your hanbok? “

“Then don’t be.” Her voice is leveled. It would have been hard to hear her if one wasn’t really listening. He seems frustrated, but she doesn’t understand why and quite frankly, she doesn’t care to understand. Eiden was just another person who’d disappear. He was just another human. 

“I don’t need you to start worrying about me. I can handle myself. No need to concern yourself with the things I do.” How is she having these conversations and casually just strolling along, looking at different outfits. They’re all so strange to look at. 

Though, what he says next halts her in her place and she looks up at him. “….” Annoying. She pulls her eyes away from him and examines a soft pink dress, 

“You don’t have to be.”

“ I said I’m not... “

Eiden doesn’t really know what to say. Did he just drag her here against her will? He doesn’t really feel good about that but he’d still rather she’d have something warm on her back. That’s one thing he’d at least not rather budge on, it’s getting pretty cold after all. 

“ .... “

He strains a smile.  He can’t force her to care about him but at least he can try not to make this awkward, even if it’s just for himself.

“ So anyway! Anything catching your eye? “

“There is no other way.” She says firmly. She watches him, reads his body language. She can see how this makes him uncomfortable. She can see how his gears are trying to work, trying to find ways to figure things out. Did he think he could help her and if he did, was it genuine? 

“you are not my father. You don’t have to worry about what I do. What I choose to do is my problem and…” She pauses before deciding to just go with it, 

“The people here will not be the first nor last that I kill.”

“ I’m not trying to be!  “

Eiden finds himself rising his voice but he’s not angry. He tries to keep it composed but there’s something gripping his chest. He doesn’t know what is it that has molded to be so composed... Eiden doesn’t think she is, really but she’s better at playing the mature part than he ever was. Even at his best act he never really passed off as anything but an immature brat. 

“ It’s not something I can just turn off... I can’t help worrying. “

It’s presumptous of him but the glimpses beyond the surfaces that Eiden’s seen aren’t just that. There’s something within her that is more but it’s closed off. He thought he was more patient than this but it really does hurt how little there is that he can say to reach her.

“ ......I’m sorry that it had to come to that. “

Is he…scolding her? She rounds the corner of the aisles, now coming face to face with Eiden. She doesn’t seem bothered by the stares that Eiden had warranted them. “If someone thinks it’s okay to threaten mine or the people I tolerate’s life, then they are ready for the consequences. No one’s life is above death. Everyone deserves it one way or another.”

…

“But seeing as this conversation may further upset you, maybe we should switch our topic.”

“ ....you mean you’re protecting someone? “

Eiden doesn’t feel comfortable about it at all. He’s never killed a soul. He’s seen monsters getting sliced in front of him, the blood and all but he’s never really done anything like that himself. 

Plus what was with the person allowing to hone her curse and so on. The way she’s speaking it sounds like they even have some sort of understanding about it. Eiden doesn’t get it. And what does she mean everybody deserves it--- it’s hard to talk to her like he did with other kids...

It’s not like he can just tell her not to keep her friends or herself safe but he just doesn’t get a good vibe from this.

“ I mean if you have to then.... “

“ ... I just don’t like it is all.  Is there no other solution there?“

His tone of surprise, if she can call it that catches her a little bit off guard. Not visibly though, but just enough for her to look up at him and then…Now she’s confused and yet despite being confused, she wears that very same deadpan expression as ever, 

“I don’t believe there’s another meaning for kill. I meant what I said.” her tone is firm. She doesn’t dwell on it much and proceeds to walk down the aisle of clothing. Hm. What is she looking for specifically? That’s when she’s eyeing the customers. The way they’re dressed. The color schemes and how they match. 

…

She doesn’t really get it. The clothes she finds people wearing are extremely strange. That’s fir sure. 

“ You....  “

“ You shouldn’t kill people!! Why would you even?! “

Eiden’s loud voice grants them pretty long stares but Eiden doesn’t really care at this point. Sure the kid always had a little edge to her but he didn’t think it’d be THIS sharp!! 

“ If you have to fight then just stop before you do!! Life is precious you know!! “

She’s not sure how to reply to his question. She suppose she can mention a couple of people. “Not friends, but there is someone who is like me. He’s been helping me hone my curse and another is training me so I can become stronger. I’ll kill him when I do.” 

At least she’s keeping busy. May not be the way Eiden had imagined, but it’s something. Approaching Eiden so that she’s walking right beside him, she falls silent. She’s thinking. “Are pants what you’re wearing?” They were called something else in her world, but it makes sense. “I’ve never worn pants before.” As for favorite colors? She didn’t know what her favorite colors were. Not anymore at least. 

“ Oh I guess that’s kind of--- huh? “

Eiden gets stuck there, halfway about to grasp some coat that he doesn’t even think it’s that good. The pattern just funny but gone from his mind as soon as he processes what Dam-Bi just says. 

“ ...um. Dam-Bi? You don’t really mean ‘kill’ do you...? “

If Eiden asks, Dam-bi wouldn’t have hid the fact that she actually forgot about his promise. She didn’t care enough to remember, because she really could have gone living her life with the same old Hanbok. Still, he seems determined and who is she to deny him his kindness? 

“Everything is tolerable.” She says in a rather monotonous tone. Nothing was different—well, unless Eiden really was curious and wanted to know what she was getting into. There was a lot after all. 

“Lead the way Mister Eiden.” She says, bowing her head. Whatever a scarf, a coat, gloves, and whatever else he mentioned was, she was going to find out soon. 

“ Just tolerable? “

“ Have you gotten any new friends? “

It would just be too sad if she was all alone. Of course he’s here to make sure she’s not but he’s limited on time... He does makes a note to contact her more often from now on though. Just worrying doesn’t do it after all.

“ Aww just Eiden’s fine ~~ I’m not too good with formalities... “  he replies with a sigh, “ any favourite colours? Would you prefer pants or dresses? “
