Over the weekend I had the pleasure to listen to Connie Carpenter Phinney speak about cycling, technology and her son, Taylor Phinney who is a professional cyclist.

After she was done speaking we had an opportunity to talk about challenges and overcoming them.  Connie's husband Davis has Parkinson's disease and fights through it every day.  I really appreciated the advice she gave me.

Every morning you get to choose the perspective you will have on your day.

I butchered her exact words, but I think that I got the point correct.

Two days later I was able to meet Davis Phinney at the USA Pro Challenge in Denver.  I really appreciated the time that Davis spent with me and the courage that he has towards life.  I have been fighting for my life for the last 18 months and I cannot tell you how inspirational it was to shake the hand of a person who has been fighting a progressive disease for years and improving the lives of others with a smile on his face.

My dream is to have a 25th anniversary with Allyson and have children to watch achieve their dreams.  It was wonderful to meet Connie and Davis who have that and fight to keep it each day.  People like them help me realize that with hard work, a little luck, the support of my family, and some really good science that I can achieve what many take for granted.

The goal of the Davis Phinney Foundation is to improve the lives of people living with Parkinson's. The Foundation provides information, practical tools, and inspiration to people living with Parkinson's Disease. The Foundation sponsors a number of programs and initiatives. The "Victory Summit" is a day for inspiration and learning. Members of the Parkinson's community can hear presentations from internationally recognized researchers, clinicians, and therapists.
