Why is it more correct to say KARATE-DO and not KARATE?
The word Karate consists of three words:
KARA
The term can take on the meanings of moderate, kind and altruistic.
Literally, however, the word KARA takes on the meaning of EMPTY.
TE
The word translated means HAND.
DO
The WAY.
In daily life the mind and the body must aim to be educated and developed in a spirit of humility and, in critical times, one must be dedicated entirely to the cause of justice.
This is the concept that is enclosed in the Japanese word DO.
Therefore it is more correct to say KARATE-DO because, besides the historical / significant aspect of this martial art, which is defending oneself with bare hands (KARA-TE), the WAY is also important, the path of technical and moral perfection that must undertake a karateka.

About KARATE-DO
Establishing who wins or who loses is not the ultimate goal of Karate-do.
Karate-Do is not a sport, but it is a martial art that helps form character through practice.
Karate-Do is a complete activity from all points of view, both spiritual and technical; it is a set of physical exercises that makes the karateka master of all body movements.
Karate-Do is not to be understood as a "fight" or a confrontation. Instead, it is an art with a capital A, because the important thing is not so much the victory as the moral perfection of oneself.
Karate-Do was not born for scenographic reasons, but for the need to defend and protect oneself and loved ones. Through practice the hands and legs are systematically prepared to the point that the sudden attack of an opponent can be effectively controlled.
One of the most unique features of Karate-Do is that it can be undertaken by everyone and everywhere, adapting to all ages, sexes and body types.
Therefore, the characteristic and distinctive aspects of Karate-Do can be enclosed in the following 8 points:
1. GREETING, in fact Karate-Do begins and ends with a greeting;
2. Karate-Do is a means of defense and not of damage;
3. The spirit of the karateka must guide and animate all its actions;
4. In Karate-Do you do not win or lose, but you learn;
5. Karate-Do is understanding oneself and others;
6. Karate-Do is loyalty;
7. The spirit must tend to ever higher levels;
8. Concentration and relaxation must be mastered and used at the right time.

Never stop learning
In karate-do you never stop learning, you can't be satisfied with every goal reached, you always have to project yourself with new more and more stimulating goals. This, in my opinion, is the true nature of the DO, the WAY: always improving.
Thanks to the Funakoshi family for this prestigious recognition which must be and will be a new beginning towards something else.
