i don't know if it is a sin to admit this but out of all of shakespeare's comic characters i don't particularly care for falstaff. i understand his functions in the plays and his complexities as a character yeah yeah but within the henry iv plays i find his scenes less interesting to get through than the other plots going on.

#i started watching david giles' henry iv part 2 #idk if there's just something wrong with me. before i read the henry iv plays for years and years all i heard was falstaff falstaff falstaf #i also think the READING his scenes was less enjoyable to me than watching them but like #EVEN in the tavern-based cast of characters. he just gets so much speaking time it feels rather tedious to me #most of the time i also find his actions/words to be predictable #which might also just be bc i was familiar with falstaff before reading the plays so that's not like. SHAKESPEARE'S fault #idk i feel like he's too overexposed for me #falstaff as a character suffers from much of what i don't really care for in king lear #it's not terrible but it's never registers with me as something as great as everyone says it is #text post #tales from diana #shakespeare #i do on the whole like the henry iv plays though especially part 1 #and i even like prince hal. i like prince hal a lot better than i like henry v lol.#david gwillim gives a great performance though <3
