Plot: David has a thing with a guy he really likes and wants to know why he ghosted him

David POV

I thought me and y/n were actually going pretty well maybe I was playing myself but I was really starting to fall for him even though we didn’t have labels on anything the feelings were there

I’m sitting on the couch in my living room trying to edit the vlog but he keeps just popping up in my head I picked up my phone and click on y/n context and typed “hey i really just wanna know what happened I thought it was going okay” I go over it about 20 times before my finger hits the send button

I look over my shoulder when I heard Natalie’s door creep open she walk over to the couch and sits down next to me “how’s the editing going” she asked I shrug my shoulders has a response she looked at me puzzled “what’s wrong” she asked “it’s nothing” I replied quickly as I look back at my computer trying to focus on the computer hoping she’d just take that and not ask anymore questions “yeah right you think you’re getting away with that Dave I’m your best friend” she said as she grabbed my laptop and sat it on the opposite side of her “fine” i reply with a sigh

“It’s just y/n I thought we were good I was really starting to like him and he ghosted me” I explain “if you really like him then try to figure out what happened and if that doesn’t work then you sometimes just have to let it go know matter how hard it is” she explained as she reached over and gave me a small hug “thank you” I mumble in her shoulder

It’s about an hour later and I’m still sitting in the same spot on the couch but instead I’m watching some dumb Netflix original sad ass movie

My phone buzzes and I jump at the vibration I pull it out really hoping it will be y/n it was the text message says “I promise it’s nothing you did it’s me I wanted to tell you why along time ago but i just never found the right time then we got so close it scared me that you’d leave because if you did I wouldn’t blame you” I stare at it for a minute confused as a million different possibilities run through my head what is he ‘married’ ‘kids’ ‘serial killer’ okay that last one is a little far fetched but still I’m panicking

I fix myself lightly sitting up a bit more on the couch as I grip my phone tightly and I slowly wipe my now sweaty palms on my jeans

I think slightly about what to say as my mind races I finally start to type “do you think maybe you could come over to talk” I look over the message a few times before hitting send and throwing my phone down beside me I rub my head in my hands and let out a sigh the phone quickly buzzed and I grab it i brought the phone up in front of my face to look at it. It ends up being a link I make a puzzled look at it I unlock my phone not hesitating to click the link my eyes glaze over it as I read it

It says ftm transgender as the headline and it went on to explain what it is I immediately feel a worriness build up in my stomach and my heart races I didn’t know how to respond I didn’t know what to think I understand what it meant i just didn’t know what that meant for us or how I exactly feel right this second as i kept reading the feelings got more intense I wasn’t judging I just didn’t expect this all I really knew in that second is that I cared about y/n and this didn’t change that I lock my phone throwing it aside I needed a second to process it before I act on anything

I put my head in my hands taking a deep breath I knew I still wanted him this didn’t change anything but I still couldn’t bring myself to text him I move the blanket off me to left side of me I stand up and drag my feet to the only place I knew where to go in this situation natalie

I lightly knock on her bedroom door “Nat” I whisper “come in” she yells slightly I drag my feet to her bed and lay down softly beside her as she sitting up on her laptop on the other side of me “what’s wrong” she asked softly was it that obvious I thought to myself I pull my phone out my jeans pocket and toss it slightly into her lap she picks it up looking at it and she starts to read the article that was left open the more she reads the more she understands “did he send you this” she asks looking down at me I nod slightly “and how do you feel” she asked softly “ I don’t know to be honest all I know is it doesn’t change how I feel about him” I reply sighing rubbing my face in my hands once again I’m stressed “I just don’t know what this means” I add “why does it have to change anything she asks “huh” I reply not really understanding the question “I just mean if you really like him and you wanna be with him why does this change anything” she explains“I don’t know I guess it doesn’t I don’t know I’m just surprised need time to process” I reply as I play with my finger in anxiousness “I mean of course take your time take your time to process but if this and he is what you really want this it shouldn’t change anything” she says softly

Her words really hit me like a truck I mean she was right it shouldn’t matter I know how I feel and I know I want him “thank you” I whisper I give her a slight awkward hug from the side of me laying down and her sitting up “yeah of course you’ll figure it out don’t stress so much” she says with a smile and I smile back

It was now 3 hours later and I was back on the couch watching my sad ass Netflix original it was now 11:00pm and I couldn’t really hold off anymore I pick up my phone and text him back “sorry it took so long to reply I’ll explain but will you still come over” I sigh to myself quickly hitting send and throwing my phone aside

It was a half hour ago now that I sent that message I keep checking every 5 second nothing he probably thought I was an asshole because I took so long to reply I think I fucked up fuck just has I was beating myself up about it I hear on knock on the door jesus christ did Natalie order pizza again I pick myself up off the couch dragging my feet to the front door I open it up I stop dead in my tracks as I look up and see him it’s y/n I lock eyes with him feeling my heart beating faster “hi” I smile “come in” I add he steps inside

“I’m sorry” he starts I should’ve told you I just panic when I realized how much I was gaining feelings for you but I got scared” he adds finding my eyes trying to read my face

I reach out for his hand hoping he’ll let me take it and he hesitates but it does

“I understand” I reply “I’m sorry I took so long to reply I just needed a minute to process but it doesn’t change how I feel about you at all I just got you know nervous I don’t know much about it but I’m willing to learn if you’ll let me” he smiled at me and lend in I lean in with him and connect are lips together everytime I kissed him it felt like the world stops and we were the only two people in the world

“I understand you need time to process completely you don’t ever need to be sorry I just appreciate you understanding and not leaving it means a lot to me” he says softly after he we pull away from kissing

I smile at him I grab his hand once again and led him to the couch I sit down and he sits down next to me snuggling his head into my neck as I pull the blanket over us

It’s been an hour since we been snuggling on the couch together after playing fighting about what movie we were gotta watch and him making fun of me watching the sad ass Netflix original we we just laying together holding each other enjoying each other company “y/n” I interrupt the silent “ he looks up at me “yeah Dave” he replied “will you be my boyfriend” I ask nervously he smile at me he leaned up and kissed my lips “of course I will” he smile

“I don’t trust this,” Heath commented. “You’re planning on making a video purely based on playing Pictionary?”

You and your boyfriend, Jeff, had called your friends together in David’s living room, setting up a big whiteboard in front of them all. You had proposed a game of Pictionary for a video for your channel, insisting that you just wanted to have a fun video with the Vlog Squad instead of crazy vlog.

“Not all of us are David Dobrik levels of crazy, Heath,” you pointed out, causing David to throw a pillow at you. “I just want a chill video, okay?”

The squad shrugged, only a handful of them believing you.

Jeff finished setting up the camera and turned to you. “Are you guys ready?”

Everyone said yes and Jeff joined them on the couch. You turned to the camera and began to explain the game,” It’s pretty simple: it’s Pictionary! The first person will pick a word and draw whatever it is, and the person who guesses the word right will go next. We have these poker chips to count for points, the first person to get 10 poker chips win.”

“What do we win?” Scotty asked.

“You’ll see,” you responded. “Who wants to go first?”

Carly offered to go first. You sat on the couch next to Jeff and watched as Carly picked a word from the container and began to draw. You and Jeff watched as each person went up in anxious silence, waiting for the right moment for you to answer one of the words correctly and go up.

You and Jeff had talked this over beforehand, planning the whole thing. The plan was to wait for some time and allow the others to go, making them think that this was a real Pictionary game, then to have your turn for the real objective of the game to be revealed.

Your heart raced with nervousness as Jeff ran a hand up and down your arm, soothingly. He knew how nervous you were for this, but he had been assuring you since you came up with the idea that it would all be alright. It was nice to have him so calm, to help you remain calm, especially at a time like this.

You both shared a look, knowing it was time to enact the real plan. David was drawing, and you knew what the word was supposed to be as you and Jeff had brushed up on all the words to make sure you knew them when the time was right. You called the answer above everyone else, making sure David could hear you. He pointed to you, signalling that you got it right.

“Geez, about time,” Jason commented. “This is your game and you haven’t gotten any points yet.”

“You guys are just bad at drawing,” you teased as David passed you a poker chip.

You erased his picture from the board and put your hand into the container. Your eyes locked with Jeff’s as you pulled a word out, knowing fully well that whatever it was, you were about to ignore it. Jeff winked at you and smiled. You smiled back, trying to push the anxiousness down inside you so you didn’t chicken out.

You glanced at the paper before turning to the whiteboard. You tried to make it seem like you were pondering what to draw, before putting the paper down and beginning your plan.

You started by drawing a large “M” followed by a large (but lowercase) “e”.

“Me?” Erin read.

“Beautiful,” David tried, causing everyone to laugh.

“Watch it, Dave, her boyfriend’s been to jail,” Todd reminded the younger boy, which caused you and Jeff to laugh even more.

In smaller letters, you wrote the word “baby” in the loop of the lowercase e, then moved out of the way to let the squad read what you had written.

“Me baby?” Scotty tried, earning him more laughter.

“Like a caveman,” Zane tried, deepening his voice to say, “Me, baby!”

You smiled at Jeff, who was trying his hardest to keep his laughter in.

“I feel like I’ve seen this before,” Natalie said, sitting forward to stare at the screen, hard. “Me...baby...”

“Oh, I know!” Erin exclaimed. “There’s a baby in me!”

Once she said it, you immediately pulled the ultrasound picture from your pocket and placed it onto the board with a magnet. You turned back to your friends and said, “Surprise!”

They were all silent. Their eyes were wide with shock. You tried to keep the smile on your face, but the longer they were silent, the more anxious you grew.

Zane was the first one up from the couch, picking you up in his arms and spinning you around, exclaiming in happiness.

“Zane, man, be careful, she’s already throwing up when she’s on solid ground!” Jeff said, but was laughing anyways.

As Zane set you down, everyone else raced up to hug you tightly.

“Are you fucking serious?” Natalie asked when it was her go. “Can I look at the ultrasound?”

You nodded and passed it to her. She held it in her hand as Carly, Erin, Mariah and Suzy gathered close to look at it. All together, they chorused, “Awe!”

Jason hugged you next, his hug like that of a father finding out his daughter was pregnant. “Oh my God, I can’t believe it. I’m not gonna be the only dad in the Vlog Squad anymore.”

“You have Josh!” you laughed as you patted his back.

“Oh, yeah, him,” Jason said. When he pulled away, you could see tears welling up in his eyes. “He’s okay I guess. At least I’ll have another cool dad in the squad with us.”

“There’s a cool dad in the squad?” Jeff asked. Jason playfully pushed him, but ended up hugging him as well.

Through the commotion, you spotted David in the back of the crowd, wiping tears from his eyes. You pushed through everyone else to hug him tightly. David was like a little brother to you, and really, he was the reason you had met Jeff and any of this was happening. In a way, you had David to thank for all the happiness that was to come.

“I’m so happy for you two,” he said, his voice breaking through the tears. “You’re gonna be such dope parents.”

“You’re such a little wimp,” Jeff teased when you pulled away from David, but hugged him as well.

“Congratulations, man,” David said.

“Thank you man,” Jeff responded.

For at least another half hour, everyone kept asking you two questions about the pregnancy and generally being happy for you both. When things had finally moved on, comments would still be made every now and then about how happy everyone was or how they couldn’t wait to meet the baby.

You were sat next to Jeff on the couch, cradling your still growing bump and beaming with happiness. You looked up at Jeff, who looked just as happy. You both shared a look before Jeff kissed the top of your head and placed a protective hand on your stomach as well.

You couldn’t help but beam with happiness. Everything just felt so right. You had the best boyfriend in the world, and you were about to have a baby with him. You couldn’t be happier.

According to neuroscience, the human brain only remembers bits and pieces of one’s childhood; but y/n could remember the day she moved from New York City to Vernon Hills at the age of 5, she remembers it so clearly because it had been a year later that a foreign boy from Slovakia moved to the same little place. She remembers his name being said by the teacher and she remembers how scared he had looked to be there she knew what that felt like, to come from one place and have everything you know up until that point taken from you, so she did what someone should have done a year before to her, she befriended him. The memory from childhood with David mostly faded and the new memories made with the shaggy haired boy were ones y/n knew she’d never forget. Freshman year during homecoming week David and y/n decided to go to the dance together because why not, they were friends personally David believed that he could never be friends with y/n, he never meant that in a bad way he meant that he thought there was more than friendship with them. This became a reality in sophomore year. David was high in his roof with y/n and they looked up at the stars mesmerized by the universe when David spoke up “y/n I have a secret to tell you” y/n looked towards his direction and with a smile, the smile that David tripped over one to many times, “what is it Dave?”

David a little scared but gutsy enough because of their high trance he said “I really really like you, I think I have since 3rd grade and I have always felt we were meant to be more” David giggles at the last part and y/n turned to face him entirely now saying “I completely agree” their first kiss took place on that roof and if it hadn’t been of fear from falling a lot more would have happened, they smiled back at the sky David in a low whisper asked “do you think we will remember this in the morning” y/n nodded “I don’t think I can ever forget a moment we spend together Dave.”

The next morning y/n had woken up in David’s floor while David snored softly she smiled at his direction remembering their confessions and their kiss, she touched her lips and an even bigger smile spread across her lips, she picked herself up from the floor and slid into bed with David to catch a few more minutes of sleep.

The next time they woke up David had his arms wrapped around y/n and she had her face pressed into his chest he smiled down at their position and woke her up softly “y/n/n wake up bub” y/n snuggled closer to him and David let out a laugh because she had snuggled up in a place he had been ticklish in y/n had brought her hands up to his lips and said “shhh sleepy” David smiled at the sentiment and answered back with “come one I want to take you out on a dateeee” y/n hadn’t said anything but was contemplating what to wear “fine but I’m going home to at least try and look pretty I’ll be back here around 2:30” David nodded and said “you wouldn’t need anything to change to look pretty you’re always beautiful” she picked her bag up and said “that was cheesy, is this what it’ll be like from now on?” David giggled lowly and nodded “I’m going to say hi to your mom and then I’ll leave” y/n’s and David’s family had always been close so it really wasn’t weird that she had slept over.

Y/n walked into the kitchen and David’s dad was there making pancakes while his wife made some homemade chocolate milk “good morning my second pair of parents” they both turned around and looked over at y/n “good morning y/n are you staying for breakfast” she shook her head and pouted “no, as much as I would love to stay for your infamous pancakes and chocolate milk David wants to go on a date later and I would like to go home before that.” not really realizing what she had told them she gave them each a hug and waved goodbye.

David’s parents were in shock after years of David and y/n growing up together something had changed and feelings were confessed they were happy but in shock. “Who do you think was the first to confess” asked David’s mom “I don’t know, we will ask Dave later, should we call y/n’s parents to tell them that the bet has finally been settled” they laughed at the memory of both set of parents sitting in the dining room drinking coffee while their kids played god knows what “I bet they’ll end up together”said y/m/n “why do you say that?” Said David’s mom, y/n’s mom shrugged ”it’s an intuition but look how happy they are with one another they are kids but this happiness is one they have forever”

As their husbands sat listening in y/n’s dad was the first to say “shall we make a bet. If they do end up confessing feelings. This bet must be during high school and since they’re four of us we each take a year, so who is taking 9th grade?” David’s mom took that year and so one by one they each had a year. Y/n’s mom having 10th grade and y/n’s dad having 12th grade, while David’s dad had 11th grade and his mom 9th grade.

They had also become good friends over the years too. Family dinner also consisted of them once and awhile and when Ester was born, David’s mom asked y/n’s parents to be her godparents.

Y/n arrived at her house not shortly after, she did live like a street down from the Dobrik home. “y/n is that you” asked her mom from the room down the hall that led to her office. Y/n walked closer to the room and popped her head in “yeah i slept over at David’s” her mom smiled and nodded her head “your dad went to pick up an order of breakfast from IHOP he will be back soon” y/n nodded and kissed her moms cheek so she could get back to work and leaving the room to go to her own so she could shower. Walking up the stairs and into her own room she noticed the mess and scolded herself slightly but decided to clean it up another time, she walked into the shower and turned the water on so it could get warm before getting in. Y/n undressed herself and got under the warm water letting it rinse her back relaxing her muscles.

After her shower she got out and picked an outfit, it was a simple pair of jeans matching with y/f/c shirt and some black vans as she let her hair dry out she went into the bathroom again to put some products in it and a little bit of mascara.

“Y/n your dad's home” she gave a glance at the mirror and walked downstairs she neared the kitchen hearing her parents whisper, “can you believe it, I was right all ya bitches owe me 5 bucks” she watched her dad hit his hip against hers and say “okay okay yeah when they both leave we will go over to David’s house to settle it” her mom grinned and y/n’s was in shock ’had they bet weather y/n and David would start a relationship?’ She walked in as though she had heard nothing and said “hi dad” she smiled and hugged him her parents turned around abruptly their faces with a nervous glance her dad smiled down at her and said “hi sweetie. Where are you going?” He set her plate of pancakes down in front of her and she poured herself some orange juice “me and David are going to the mall” she had been careful not to call it a date she knew they knew what it was, so she wanted to see if she could crack them. They smiled at her and nodded.

As she walked back to David’s house she realized how happy she had been since their kiss. Did it mean they were dating? Everyone thought they already were, what difference would it make, would Nat be pissed at them for this? She had been friends with both of them for a long time so they’d never want her to feel like the third wheel maybe she’d been happy. By the time she reached David’s house he was coming out and said “why did you walk all the way over here when I could have picked you up?” Y/n shrugged “gas wastage dummy” David shook his head and opened the car doors “I have to tell you something and you will not believe it!” Y/n said enthusiastically “ooooo tell me” David giggled “our parents made a bet as to when we’d start dating!” David turned on his seat with his mouth slightly open “you’re kidding-” she shook her head “-ohmygod they are fucking insane” he let out a big belly laugh and started the car “I know I thought the same thing” y/n said as she clicked on her seat belt.

After a thirty minute drive they arrived at Vernon Hills mall. It was not too big nor too small it had most of the major stores and movie theaters. “So where shall we start my lady” y/n giggled and said “well the movie starts at 1 so we can walk around and go eat” they started by going into random stores and playing with anything they found “y/n you’re gonna get us kicked out” David said as he laughed “what do you mean David you're the clown here” she giggled as she zipped up the costume she found “okay close your eyes I think I found my Halloween costume” David shut his eyes and heard the door unlock “okay open them” he did and started to laugh as she was wearing a clown costume “I have decided to go as you for Halloween, a clown” she giggled at her own remark

“where did you find that” “Dave we are in a costume store” he shrugged and stood up to her “I at least make a cute clown” she rolled her eyes “looks like someone isn’t getting a kiss after this date” David looked offended and shook his head “the audacity” y/n walked back into the changing room to take off the costume “well maybe, I’ll reconsider if we go buy some food” after a minute she left the room to find him in the position she had left him in “maybe I’ll get us some McDonald’s” she giggled and grabbed his hand to walk out of the store “what time is it?” Asked David “time for you to get a watch” answered y/n “you’re feeling snarky today aren’t you?” He looked at her “it can happen sometimes. We have half an hour left” y/n said as she looked at her watch. “So Mr. Dobrik where shall you take us to eat?” He grabbed her hand to hold it and lead her “I shall take thee to McDonald’s like my lady asked of me” they neared the fast food restaurant and looked up at the menu knowing what they already wanted. “Okay the McDonald’s burger is delicious and you can’t say anything to change my mind.” Said y/n as she put her burger down to get a fries “Why would I you’re right” she looked at David and smiled “we should hurry to buy the tickets for the movie” David smiled right back at her and nodded.

As they bought the tickets for the movie Thor they went into the screening room and joked till the lights dimmed and movie started, “holy shit he is hot” y/n whispered. David watched her as she looked at the movie he was so entranced in her beauty she’s noticed his staring and whispered “what?” “I’m glad you befriended me all those years ago” he whispered back. Y/n blushed but he could never tell as it was to dark she gave him a smile and turned back to the movie, nothing else was said till the end of the movie. “I’ve gotta say Marvel is becoming such a great cinematic universe I wonder what they have coming next” David said as they left the theater “I know right? It’s gonna be so much fun to see, thank you for today Dave” y/n said as she got into the passenger seat the card ride to y/n’s house was small talk with laughter; as David pulled over on y/n’s house he got out of the car to help with y/n’s door and walk her to her front door “well Davey this was a successful day” David smiled at the name and nodded “I would agree, this is going to sound cheesy but I’ve been waiting to do this all day.” When he was done talking he took a step closer to y/n and leaned down to kiss her. It was slow like their first kiss but with more feeling and David loved the way y/n’s lips fit into his perfectly he’d tell her later on but she was his first kiss; so in summary David Dobrik was glad that he had gotten high on his roof with y/n and had his first kiss with his best friend who he’d love since third grade.

You and David have been together for around 6 months. The vlog squad was just getting ready to leave David’s house to go to the airport, since it was their last show in Chicago. 

‘‘Is he seriously late again’‘ Corinna rolled her eyes, she was sitting across from me on Davids white couch. 

‘‘I tried calling him, but no answer’‘ Jason walked through the front door. ‘‘The uber is already here’‘ 

You were so dissapointed. He said he will be here on time, instead he had to film a bit with Dom and who knows how many women making out with him. Everyone was getting nervous, they just couldn’t miss the flight. You can’t imagine how hard it is to book a flight for that many people and for them to sit together. 

Natalie was ripping off her hair. We were all powerless. You couldn’t watch them explode right in front of you. So you stood up from the couch. 

‘‘You guys go. Me and David will take a later flight’‘ you said catching everyone’s attention. 

‘‘Are you sure?’‘ Zane and Scotty asked in unison. 

‘‘You aren’t going to murder him, right. We still need the guy’‘ Jason joked. 

‘‘I’m sure. Don’t worry Jason, I have a lot of self-discipline when it comes to David’‘ you joked. 

And with that, their suitcases were thrown into the Uber and they were all on their way to the airport. While you were left alone waiting for David, anger boiling by the minute. 

After about an hour you finally got a text that he was on his way to his house and that Natalie got us a ticket for the plane that leaves in and hour and a half. You packed the last of David’s things while he was on his way. 

‘‘y/n’‘ you heard from downstairs. You peeked down and David was finally home. 

‘‘Call an uber’‘ you yelled back, you didn’t want to talk to him really, but you heard footsteps coming up. 

‘‘Babe, I’m sorry. Ok? I already texted an apology to our group chat’‘ he said coming closer to hug you. 

‘‘Oh, you sent a text after we waited for you for over 3 hours. What kind of planet do you live on?’‘ you aggressively said back. 

‘‘The planet where you are the most beautiful girl ever’‘ he smiled. 

‘‘Nice try’‘ you rolled your eyes and gave him his packed suitcase ‘‘take this down’‘. 

‘‘Yes ma’am’‘

After a few minuted the Uber arrived, you refused to speak to him the whole ride and thanks to LA’s traffic, you arrived just in time to get on the plane. 

‘‘Nat got us 1.class tickets? The ride is only like a few hours long’‘ you finally broke the silence as you both walked to your seats. 

‘‘I asked her if she could, so I can make it up to you’‘ David said and put his hand on your shoulder. 

‘‘David, you know I don’t want you spending so much money’‘ you sat down on the soft chair ‘‘but this is sooooo nice’‘ 

David laughed.  After an hour you were in the air as you could see less and less of the ground. 

David kept looking in your way, trying to make eye contact. Finally you got into a sneaky mood. 

You got close to his ear. He was expecting you to say something, but you stuck your tongue out and brushed it against his ear and went down his neck. David let out a deep breath and you could feel his body relax. 

‘‘Meet me in the bathroom in 1 minute’‘ you then whispered and left your seat.
