this might be a stretch but these seasons flashbacks seemed so much more intimate. there were a lot of casual touches and crowley seemed happier than, well ever, really, in all of them. bare with me here but like i think i can safely say that they were aziraphale's memories, i mean, aziraphale was the one thinking back on the job thing ("he [crowley] left while u were thinking"), also aziraphale's diary entry in 1827 and i dont think i need to explain 1941 to any of us. my point with this, aziraphale in this season could look back on their history without heaven breathing down his neck and actually think back on them fondly. i mean in 1827 and 1941 they're not really doing any thwarting or favors for each other, they just like each other so much and just. do shit together. i mean crowley invited him to a GRAVEYARD in 1827 and aziraphale was SO happy to go. in 1941 crowley let aziraphale practice his magic with him and even JOINED IN the performance. it's so obvious that they just wanted to spend time together and before the flashbacks were like aziraphale was trying to justify them. like if he convinced himself well enough that their meetings were strictly professional, which he spent most of the first season doing, than he could convince heaven too. but in season 2 he no longer needed to do that and could just enjoy crowley's company both in the present and the past. aka he was letting himself fall in love with crowley again through each memory.
